Phoenix was on her way to breakfast when she noticed the change.

All the portraits that had once hung on the wall had been removed. They're usual morning chatter and absence that she missed. Instead in their place was a giant chalkboard. The bright colorful block words caught her eye next.

CONGRATULATIONS AND VALEDICTATIONS CLASS OF 2025!

Valedictations? She'd have to look up that word later. If it even was a word which Phoenix was sure it wasn't. Looking down she saw the small instructions written in white for leaving a message. She stood for a second before walking past and continuing to breakfast. She needed time to think about if she was going write. And if so….what would she write?

She walked past it again after breakfast and once more going to lunch. It wasn’t till after lunch that she had stopped to look at it again. There were a few student finishing up their own notes. Phoenix watched as they placed them on the board.

They walked past her. She stepped up glancing at the table. The table was covered in paper of various sizes and colors that had obviously been charmed with self-sticking charms on the back. There were quills and ink of various colors, colored pens and pencils. There were some stamps and ink pads with fun little faces and pictures as well.

Not knowing exactly what to say she sat and thought for a moment. Looking back up at the board she read some of the previous ones. Some were inside jokes. Others were quotes.

She grabbed a bigger sheet of paper. It was simple, a shade as misty green as her eyes. She chose a quill in a darker jade green. She pressed it to the paper and began to write

To whoever’s leaving and is scared of what’s next —
You’ll be okay. Not in the way everyone says, not in the way that magically fixes things overnight. But eventually.
Don’t forget who you were while you were here. Even the worst parts. Even the mistakes.
They’re still yours.
They still count.
P.Z.

She signed just her initials. She didn’t know any of the seventh years very well nor did they know her but initials would do just fine.

She stuck hers to the board right in-between two glitter covered ones. It looks out of place among them but it was enough for her.

She glanced back once more a small smile forming on her face before walking on to her next class.

Seven years. They had survived seven whole years. Lyanna quickly finished her breakfast, she mindlessly made her way to the Small Hall where students could be found leaving one last note to their peers, one last word. Her thoughts went back to the day she had first arrived at the school, when she'd laid eyes on what was now her home for the very first time. But that wasn't what struck Lyanna most. Those were only the details worked into the story, minor and unnecessary. What she did think back to were the people she met, especially her best friend @Avery Gray. How had she felt when the scarlet steam engine known as the Hogwarts Express came into view for the first time? When the sorting hat had been placed on her head, a tradition that decided who her closest friends would be and which of her traits would shine the brightest? Lyanna had certainly felt terrified. And that led her to where she was now, her gaze slowly processing what was happening around her. Because somewhere in the fit of her stomach, this felt final. One last way of saying goodbye to- to people she hadn't even brought herself to speak to. Never had that thought occurred to her, and still, there she was, feeling hollow on the inside.

Hollow. Empty. Deflated. What had happened to her? But as soon as she asked herself that, Lyanna knew. She'd felt that same pang in her stomach when her mother had disappeared, her first reaction. Not tears, those came later. First the realization of what had happened. Now too, because she knew they would be missed, and what had Lyanna done? Not even spoken one word to any of them. Not one. It might've seemed silly, for what could a first year like her have said after all? "Oh hey, I just wanted to say I'm proud of you", that's what. And that just sounded foolish. But on paper? A switch clicked in her mind. The guiltiness became resolve, because no actions go unnoticed, except ones not done. And that was when Lyanna took out her quill and ink and started writing.
To all graduating seventh years,

First of all, congrats on making it this far. Seven whole years! That is certainly an achievement each and every one of you can be proud of no matter what. It might seem like starting from scratch is scary, and trust me, I feel that. I understand completely, but remember: You didn't survive at Hogwarts for this long and not learn anything. You did that part already, so you're not starting from scratch. Now it's time to perform what you've picked up with all the classes you took, rules you broke (yes that counts too:3), sports you played, friends you made. Be yourself, because that is the best thing you could possibly be right now. Be the one you were from the start, simply polished up with seven years of schooling.

You are ready.

Find your place in the outside world, find where you belong. Seventh years, I'm proud of you. May you all be who you want to be, and hear our whispers of encouragement whenever you need them, because you certainly deserve them. You might not yet notice it but you have certainly shaped the young lives of your peers, helped us take our first step, and now it's your turn. Good luck, you can do this.

-Lyanna Oak
When she'd finished signing her name at the end of the note, Lyanna felt satisfied. It may not have been perfect, but it was what she wanted to say and it was enough. But most important of all, she meant it.

Novalie had heard about the little farewell gesture planned for the seventh-years who would soon be graduating and leaving Hogwarts - though calling it 'little” would be a massive understatement. One look at the chalkboard in the small hall, already bursting with colorful notes and scribbles, made it clear: this was awesome!
Obviously, Novalie wasn’t going to miss the chance to add her her own message of appreciation to it. She didn’t really have any particularly close connections with the older students, but they had always been kind to her in memorable ways, for example pointing her in the right direction when she’d gotten lost in her first weeks, helping her out of a tree after her foot had somehow gotten stuck, or that one time someone spotted her sneaking around Hogsmeade and chose not to tell on her. To Novalie, all these small things meant a lot.

As the stood in front of the board, scanning the messages others had left, something started to feel tight in her chest.
It .. was kind of sad, wasn't it?
How must it feel ot leave Hogwarts? After all, it wasn’t just a school - it was a home. You didn’t just pack your bag and go at the end of the day. You lived here, laughed here, found secret hideouts and favorite corners and friends you hang out with everyday. Letting go of all that must hurt so much..
On the other hand, it was also the beginning of something exciting, right? Now they could live their dreams - become beast tamers, detectives chasing criminals, or (Novalie’s personal favorite) join a traveling wizarding circus! They could also get as many pets as they wanted and, best of all, no more curfews or other unnecessary rules holding them back! Honestly, the real adventure was just beginning!

Fueled by this positivity, Novalie rushed over to the table with all the supplies, grabbed a piece of colorful parchment, dipped a quill into ink, and began to write...

Dear Seventh-Years,
it’s okay to feel sad and to cry. Hogwarts has been your home for seven whole years, after all.
But now that you're amazing at doing your magic and being officially adults, you can go on, like, real adventures! Use your magic to do fun things! You could become Aurors, or street magicians performing crazy cool tricks for everyone to see!
Oh, but don’t do anything boring. Like sitting around reading books all day or something. You’ve done plenty of that in school, I’m sure!
And if you ever miss Hogwarts too much, you can just come back as a professor, right?

Anyway, wishing you all the best and all the fun!!
- Nova

Adding a few hearts and stars and smileys to her note, Novalie grinned proudly and slapped it onto the chalkboard with a satisfying clap.
As she stepped back, she came to notice that some of the other notes were addressed to specific people...
Too bad she didn’t really know anyone by name.
No, actually, wait-
There was one person.
Novalie recalled a particular girl she’d seen around - they’d never really talked or anything, but the girl had appeared multiple times in the Ravenclaw common room. And if the redhead remembered correctly, she was the one who had started shouting like a full-grown adult before Christmas, when a bunch of fairies had gone wild in there! The way she’d looked absolutely ready to end the fun and possibly launch into a lecture - yeah ... she had serious grown-up energy.
So, she had to be a Seventh-Year., right? No way someone younger could be that uptight.
And wasn’t she on a sports team, too? Novalie had a vague memory of seeing her on a broom a few times, but when was that? What had been the occasion?
The Metamorph squinted, deep in thought - had it been ... broom racing?
And then it suddenly clicked. Of course! She’d overheard whispers that the Ravenclaw Broom Racing Captain was graduating this year! That had to be her!
The girls name was ... Aly, right? @Aly Salinger

Her eyes widened with sudden purpose, scanning the chalkboard again, looking for any message addressed to Aly. But there was nothing. Not a single note.
Her mouth dropped open in disbelief. Impossible!
No one had written her a message?! That wouldn’t do!
Determined (and blissfully unaware that the girl was, in fact, not graduating) Novalie nodded firmly to herself, deciding to step up, grabbed another piece of paper, and began scribbling a new note before adding a little drawing at the bottom ...

Dear Aly,
I think it’s tragic that you’re leaving Hogwarts, and I wanted you to know that, like, even though you seem kind of strict, I really admire you, especially your skills and your curls, they’re so beautiful!!
Maybe one day I’ll be able to transform my hair like that too, though for now, I’ve only figured out how to change the color. Still, I think you’re one of the prettiest Ravenclaws I’ve seen, and I believe you could easily become either a hair model or an Auror. (Aurors are the ones catching rule-breakers, right?)

Or you could maybe even be a security guard! Imagine!! You just seem very responsible and serious in a good way - like someone who always gets things done properly and stuff!
Anyway, the Broom Racing Team will miss you greatly and I’ll definitely think of you every time I ride my own broom now!

Farewell,
Nova

Luca did not have the opportunity to formally meet any of the seventh years during his first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Truthfully, he focused much of his energy on learning everything he could about his new environment and getting comfortable with being alone and having complete autonomy over himself. Nevertheless, he appreciated even after his short time at Hogwarts, thus far, the efforts to help him when they could before entering the Wizarding World. Even though he didn’t posses any friends graduating from Hogwarts or even any acquaintances, he still wanted to leave something for them just as so many other students had planned to.

As soon as the board went up, there were dozens of messages within the hour from various years to the outgoing seventh years. Some were specifically addressed to someone, and some were generic good lucks, farewells, and the like. The boy hadn’t determined his message but wanted to avoid being boringly generic. While he had been taught that it was the thought that counts, Luca wanted to be remembered. He had to find a balance somewhere between short enough to be read and long enough to hold weight.

Luca eventually finished scouring what had been written and picked up his writing materials. Once he reached his room in the dungeons, the materials were set aside and forgotten about in lieu of much more important potions homework. He wanted to write something, and he feared forgetting the deadline, but he feared upsetting his potions master even more. Of course, days later, he realized that the materials for the writing board for the seventh year were still sitting there, gathering dust. Gathering them, he sat at his desk and scratched something on the parchment.

To our Graduates,

First, congratulations on your achievement. You know better than I how daunting seven years at Hogwarts seemed when you first stepped on the Hogwarts Express. I was not fortunate enough to have met many of you, but I thoroughly enjoyed my interactions with a few of you. Thank you to those who helped run events, sports, or study sessions! To those who already know their place beyond Hogwarts, I wish you the best in your endeavors. To those unsure, opportunity is always lurking around the next corner. It is waiting for you. I am still learning but always willing to help, so I am always an owl away!

Respectfully,
Luca Corranado

After completing his letter, he rushed down to the board and put it up with the existing self sticking charm.

Sere had already turned her gaze toward the Great Hall, contemplating about which healthy breakfast she had to choose -and whether it should be the healthy one- when she felt someone looking at her. She had heard this thing was a normal occurrence, when someone felt like they were being watched. It also appeared in some of the few fiction books she had read. The Gryffindor turned her head here and there and her gut was correct. She found a charismatic white-haired boy inclined his head towards her.

"Senior, hi! Good morning. Looking presentable as always, I see." Sere spoke with a bunch of positive energy surging through her whenever she interacted with Kim. This senior always managed to make her feel comfortable, like a big brother to her. Even now, all her thoughts and anxieties about returning home magically vanished from inside her head. "Writing messages for the graduates too?" The girl wondered what Kim had written for the seventh-years. If only she knew how Kim's handwriting looked like. Unfortunately, she didn't.

Oh, wait!

Sere suddenly remembered about that pumpkin cookies Kim sent after another errand in the past. Kim wrote a brief letter for her that time. That one! Sere found one that looked like Kim's handwriting; decorated with ivy, stars, and clouds. "True to yourself... You only live once. Such a beautiful message, Senior." Sere nodded in agreement with the sentences, instilled it inside herself.

"Anyway, I was thinking about breakfast," Sere pointed at the Great Hall. "If you're thinking about the same thing, should we go together?" The girl walked ahead. Hopefully, the fellow Gryffindor accepted her invitation. A quick chat with Kim before the summer holidays sounded like a good idea.
