Perhaps the chicken tonight. Or maybe the duck. Would there be duck? He hoped there would be duck at dinner. He rather liked duck. A well-seasoned Peking duck with a freshly made hoisin sauce, scallions, and cucumber. Delicious. The thought of it made him salivate even as this disappointment of a duel continued.
"Confringo!"
He continued to cast but his heart was not in it. They weren't doing well. Another unbalanced matchup but what could he expect at this point? It seemed the common theme of duelling of late. Still, he would see it out for his team and pride.

Damion was doing everything in his power to help his team out and as always was being a team player. He didn't really think about himself. He wanted to help out his team first and then it would be his turn to do something about himself. He looked around making sure his team was still standing as he cast the spell that hit his intended target. He smiled as he waited for the duel to progress more.

With thick fog obstructing the view of the stage and an almost-blinding light shining overhead, Pyxis wondered if sunglasses or goggles would be more appropriate. Despite their struggle to see their target, the lions decided to launch a full-on assault at Cassius. With triple calls for the Blasting Curse, it seemed that they were interested in exploding the lad until there was nothing left of him but a speck. Harsh, but maybe those were the methods needed to win a duel of such a high level. Unfortunately for the lions, Cassius did not cast a spell during this time. Instead, he focused in on the fog ahead of him and his gaze caught sight of three balls of fire barreling towards him, piercing the gaseous barrier. Quick on his feet, the bird avoided being struck by all three spells and even though this was a remarkable feat, he couldn’t avoid the shrapnel breaking free from the piste.
The light overhead suddenly dimmed and went out entirely as Damion shifted his concentration onto his fellow Ravenclaw. Light shot through the fog around him and surrounded the cords around Aida’s arms. They began to feel them loosening just a bit and took advantage of the situation to finally finally break free from the bindings. At the same time, the Nebulus clouds around Damion and Cassius dissipated, giving them a better view of their opponents, but also ensuring that the Gryffindors now had a clearer idea of where the birds stood.

It was a bit boring, yes. Even the missed spells did some good deal of damage, but man it was not as spectacular as she thought it would be. She might have got a bit bored with the strategy they applied. It worked, it needed to, because there were duellists that were scary. So they had to be restrained. Also, it was her and Galton's last duel, and they had to have more victories than defeats this year.

Galton could count on his fingers the number of times he'd used confringo. It wasn't quite his cup of tea - brute damage - but he couldn't deny it's effectiveness. And it seemed that the Pride had all come to the same conclusion, throwing three of them down piste.
If only Cassius wasn't also a skilled duelist who knew how to read opponents. The teen displayed some fancy footwork leaving him with only splinters to worry about. And probably some minor hearing damage. Though they were all dealing with that; the loud explosions already leaving a slight ring in Galton's ears.

While the lion's coordinated their attack in a powerful trinity of destruction, it was not assured. Despite being bound, Eden proved to be more slippery than Evelynn might have thought possible from him. Credit where it was due, she supposed. None of their spells landed a direct blow, his steps dancing deftly between pockets of flying shrapnel, and as the trio of explosions settled, he remained upright. What was worse, Aida had apparently slipped her bonds. Despite that, Evelynn seemed entirely unbothered, exuding an obvious self-assurance. The birds were cornered, all of them looking far more worse for wear than either she or her compatriots. It was only a matter of time now. |

Dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge. The 5 D's of duelling (and dodgeball) were all Cassius could manage given the restraints that bound his wrists. He was certainly not having a great day, nor was his team. It happened. Ravenclaw couldn't win them all -- although they usually did. That was something he was at least proud of during his tenure as a team captain. While sixth year might end on a stinker, at least his seventh year was looking to be quite promising.

Aida finally broke free, but it all seemed Sisyphean. Being stuck in binding had already gotten old all of the previous times. It wasn't as if the wix could suddenly put on twenty pounds of muscle. Again Aida thought of the brawny redhead that Valentin often fawned over, but there was a reason the Ravenclaw had gone into duelling. It just wasn't to be in a muscle sport.

Damion was happy that what he had intended had worked out in his favor. He was sad to see that the Gryffindors were targetting Cassius. He wished he could help him too. But he was focussed on helping Aida for now. He looked around and hoped that Cassius could handle himself a little longer. He didn't want his team to struggle. He was hoping that his team would win the match.

To the chagrin of the Gryffindors’, Cassius was still standing after being the target of their Blasting Curses. Despite being littered with splinters from the damaged piste, he was holding his own and Pyxis had to admire his resilience. But Cassius’ fancy footwork was fleeting as the lad chose to focus on his bindings. Such a distraction made him the perfect target for Galton’s repeat cast of the Blasting Curse. The flames struck at his feet, sending him crashing backwards while also taking hits from Meenauh’s piste ammunition. Evelynn tried to catch all three Ravenclaws in her Cracker Jinx, but a misplaced cast made sure that none of them were hit by the tiny explosions. Even with Cassius avoiding the brunt of the crackers, the bird did not rouse.
Aida had been out of commission from the start of the duel, but now they took some power back, launching a rivalling Blasting Curse across the piste and towards Meenauh. The lion felt the stage beneath her give way and the spell searing her feet. Did the Ravenclaws have more of that in their tank? Because it was most definitely mighty. And just as the fog cleared up around Galton and Evelynn, Damion summoned it right back, masking the duo in darkness.
Pyxis called for a stop to the duel and noted that the bindings around Cassius had disappeared as his body was carted off, too late to cause any kind of shift.
