Damn, was mornings always like this? Aston wasn't exactly someone who slept in, often waking up early enough before breakfast that he can read for a bit, but the thought of going for a morning was not something that often crossed his mind. But hey, might as well try it at least once, Aston is a fit kid, but not able to run and climb around in the bushes and trees of the midwestern woods does mean he has to find some other way to stay active, quidditch training alone is not enough. Well, that was the trail of though that led him here, slowly half jogging around the lake on this early morning.
...Was it always this boring around the Lake? Usually when Aston is here he's drawing, reading, or even climbing on a tree somewhere, just doing something that occupies space in his head, but right now it's just, him and his thoughts.
He ran 1oo meters
I wonder what dad is doing?
and then 200 meters
Last time I was at home he seemed so tired.
300 meters now
Home feels so quiet now, is it too quiet?
400 meters
What would mom-
It was not a very pleasant time, normally he's so much more happy, content with life as it is. Maybe it is because of the end of the school year, the hesitation to see his father again, the worry he seems to constantly feel in those last weeks here. Whatever, screw this.
He went from his slow jog to a walk, observing the lake, Aston already made some progress around it, at this point he might as well finish the loop. Despite kind of giving up already he didn't want to just turn around and go back, that felt too defeating, almost humiliating. Like any decent sportsman winning was always a goal to him, though a goal he can only achieve on the fields. With a light sigh Aston settled into his walking pace, content with his choice, mostly.

Nabi had been lost in thought.
Sitting on a rock, her gray eyes looked at the lake. It has been days... Her foot would slip off the rock, and a slight crumble would be heard. The smell of the lake water caused a damp feeling to be remembered while her mind replayed the spell cast in the dungeons.
The crumbling of the stone walls.
The feeling of dust in her lungs as the whispered explosion echoed and destroyed. Her nose twitched slightly as if she was still breathing the same air, feeling the same burn in her throat. Nabi's eyes narrowed as she gently cleared her throat, ridding herself of the sensation. Her fingers would twitch slightly, moving in cracks like a statue coming to life as a figure came to mind.
A figure of golden hair.
A wolf, or so she had noted that night. It is most certainly not over, her hand would subconsciously get a hold of her wand, her fingers gliding over the cold wood. She had not seen the boy in days, though he was not the only one she had not seen in a long time. Aamon was nowhere to be found, but it was not like she had been looking for him... well, she would not admit it if she had. Nabi hummed curtly as she looked down at the wand in her hand, perhaps I finally scared him away...
If only she knew what lay in the dungeons, that her breath was not the only one caught by the dusty air.
The corner of her mouth tugged gently before looking back up, just as a raven-haired boy appeared to give up his jog. Raising an eyebrow, Nabi watched as the boy sighed. His gaze was on the great lake, perhaps unaware of her or attempting to give nonchalance toward her presence. He has not finished going around the lake... why stop now? Her head tilted slightly, as a mildly amusing thought crossed her mind before she calmly said in her blankest tone.
"Giving up or taking a morning stroll, mister?" She straightened up but remained seated as she looked at him. Watching his reaction to an onlooker catching him surrendering rather pitifully. "You were so close to being done." Her tone carried neither hope nor sarcasm; it was stated the way it was— a mere observation.
A pathetic sight.
Her eyebrow would raise as she studied him, he seems to be in good shape... is he perhaps a lazy athlete? Or was it genetics? Her eyes narrowed as she thought of someone, Aamon might just be genetics... Blinking, she cleared her throat before looking back at the lazy athlete.
What had he said?

Aston hardly noticed the black haired girl by the lake, too lost in his own thoughts to really pay attention to his surroundings. It wasn't till she said something that Aston actually realised she was there, "Oh uh, yeah, giving up, I guess, I don't normally run. First time for me actually. Never picked up running at home in London." London... Yeah, London is home now, it felt weird saying it, unreal. What he said about sports was quite true though, strength was always more his focus, though to be even more honest Aston seldom trained with intention, mostly just doing what he found fun. Like quidditch, or climbing.
The girl's flat tone was...appreciated, he thinks. She could be outright mocking him or acting condescending. The embarrassment could be a lot worse, just saying, that didn't mean it wasn't there. With a slight sign, Aston spoke again, "Are you often out here around this time? Don't wanna sleep for a bit longer before school?" She didn't seem like she was out here to do anything in particular, Aston wouldn't be surprised if she was just out here for the view. For just a school the grounds are nice, he thinks, he hasn't exactly been to many schools in his life. "If you are a runner, you got any tips to share? I think I get bored easily, that's probably the issue" Aston really has no idea if the girl would have anything to share, but might as well ask right? Not like she is going to turn around and start insulting him at this point, she kind of missed her chance at that already. Hopefully she won't think I'm just lazy. Despite everything Aston still had some care for how people perceived him. Aston was never one with exceptional grades, sports came far easier. Maybe his parents didn't do that well with homeschooling him, maybe his issue is just with being a wizard, who knows?

"I don't normally run" the raven-haired boy said.
Ah.. a novice..., her gray eyes looked up from where she sat, a pitiful one at that. The boy stood there, perhaps being caught quitting before even reaching halfway brought some embarrassment upon him, but Nabi did not care. Her ears perked slightly as something about him caught her attention, American?
She had only crossed paths with one other American before, though his accent was much harder to comprehend as he stomped around the cabin at Beauxbaton like a child denied of a sweet before dinner. Talking about nonsense that made no sense, she found the tone belonging to the pusillanimous child before her, oddly suited for him. It was slow, laid back as the owner. It was not a compliment, well, not that he would know what she thought.
And if I am?
Nabi raised an eyebrow at the boy's, his attempt at small talk... horrible, "It is important to have a well-organized schedule, Mr..." Her voice was calm as she finally began to get off the rock, smoothing out her neatly pressed robe in an almost cynical way. "It is a deficiency in impulse control to stay in bed for longer than is required... would you agree?" She hummed curtly. Nabi was not one to waste her time; everything had its purpose, and just like sleep, her mornings did too.
Though by the looks of the fickle child, Nabi would think he preferred wasting his time giving up on things. Placing her hands behind her back, she would glance at him momentarily, "And to answer your previous question... No, I tend to be here at an earlier hour. I was merely... occupied."
With what? Perhaps that would be something not even Merlin knew.
Her head tilted as he asked for advice on running, "What makes you believe I run?" and what makes you think I would give you advice? What would be the purpose of something so... selfless? Advice always had a cost, after all.
And Nabi was not on the hunt for friends.
As if studying him, she watched his reaction before humming to herself in thought. Would this indolent creature be useful to me? She knew it was wise to invest in things to reap its fruit later, and who knew? There was a chance the pawn would come in handy someday. Nabi would calmly say, her tone a blade's edge, cold and calculated. While devoid of warmth, genuine advice coated her words in satin, "If you want to run, do it. There is no point in making excuses for yourself and feeling bad about not completing a mere lap around the lake."
Self-pity is a human weakness that should be contained.
Or be contained by it.
With a soft sigh, she looked around, "You can either push aside your own weakness and run, or you can let it sink you deeper... That is up to you."
