Clink. Clink. Clink. The trolley rolled smoothly over the gaps on the station floor, the items it contained rattling and shifting slightly. The young girl pushing it along closed her eyes for a moment, letting the sounds of the station wash over her. She felt a comforting hand rest on her shoulder, giving a soft smile, she looked back at the twinkling eyes of her father.
"Chin up little Birdie, it'll be all right."
Straightening herself up, Perrin looked around the platform, spotting various parents and students come to board the train. Her eyes wandered back to her parents, putting on a bright smile and carefully scanning them. They both seemed a bit nervous and a bit scared for their daughter, yet staying strong for her sake. Her mother came forwards now, tucking back any loose strands of hair and smoothing out her light yellow jacket. Perrin was unable to see her mother as much in the last couple of months, with her helping out with her father's work, learning about the wonders of the magical world.
A few hot tears began to form at the edges of her vision, blinking them away, she pulled both her parents into a tight hug. Holding back the sadness she whispered, "I promise to make you two proud." It was moments like these that she wished would never end, having both her parents together was not very common, and it was always slightly awkward. This, though. This felt like family.
With a few last goodbyes and a promise to send letters, she broke away. Carrying all of her luggage, Perrin gave a last wave towards her parents and make her way down the train. Passing compartment after compartment filled with students, she finally reached an empty one. While usually open to converse with others, she needed a bit of time to pull herself together again before anyone could see her.
Tucking her legs up onto the seat, she let her yellow sneakers rest on the soft cushion. Pressing her face against the window, she could see the bright blue sky. Maybe things would turn out alright.

“Carl dear with me!”

His eyes shoot up as he noticed that his Aunt Susan was already a good twenty paces ahead of him. His mind was back home with his parents, the teary goodbye they shared as his aunt took him to catch the train to his school. Pushing his trolley forward he navigated past the labyrinth of people who would not have a clue about the secret wizarding train.

“Listen sweetie see this over here,” his aunt said as she leaned in for a whisper. “That’s the passage, platform 9 ¾ all you have to do is watch the crowd and move quickly through the wall before anyone can see your abnormal,” she said. Taking in a deep breath he looked to his aunt, her curly brown hair, multicolored hemp dress, and bright green eyes. He then looked back to the wall.

“Auntie are you sure it’s going to work out, what if I crash?”

Susan gave him a warm smile and kissed him on the forehead. “I’ve never been surer of everything in my life, now push forward I will be right behind you!”

Carl pushed his trolley then suddenly broke into a run, before he knew it he was on the platform and before him the brilliance of the Hogwarts express sat. His mouth was wide open before Susan playfully clapped him on the back. “Give me a hug love they are about to leave and you need to hurry up and board!”

His arms wrapped around her, Susan nearly lifted him off his feet with a tight hug. “I’ll be sure to send a few owls on your parents’ behalf! Good luck and if you’re lucky you will be a Hufflepuff like me!” Her words went right out of his head, everything seemed to be a blur, the next thing he knew most of his bags were collected by the staff except for his backpack with his uniform. Awkwardly he adjusted his navy blue polo shirt, the frames of his glasses seemed to catch any bit of ambient light.

Awkwardly he peered between compartments but each one was full. Sighing he kept moving through the seemingly endless train, his red and white tennis shoes lightly tapping against the floor. Finally, he saw a compartment with a girl his age sitting alone, her face pressed against the window. He remained awkwardly silent for a moment not sure of what to say to another prospective Witch/Wizard. Finally, he cleared his throat and moved to the seat across from her and stood.

“Hi! I… I am Carl is this seat taken,” he asked politely before sitting down.

Two young girls carrying their luggage approached the Hogwarts Express. One was an older girl with bright eyes and a large smile who seemed elated to be heading off to school. Her name was Rosario, a Hufflepuff entering her third year. The other girl, the younger one who was grasping her belongings firmly, was Lusia. Her eyes darted across the red freight as they grew closer, wondering about the many things first years usually worried about.

After giving the heavier items to the porter, Lusia and her sister stepped onto the train, beginning their journey to Hogwarts and the long years ahead of them.

The older sister turned to the younger promptly, saying, “You should go make some new friends, there's bond to be plenty...at least for some of us.” Lusia scowled while Rosario smirked, the latter heading off in one direction. The youngest made sure to go in the exact opposite direction; with that the sisters parted ways, one feeling significantly bitter afterwards.

Lusia fiddled with her eye patch as she made her way through the tiny corridor that seperated the compartments. She managed to catch a glimpse of her parents leaving through one of the windows and felt a sinking feeling inside her.

She wondered who she would sit with; there were so many options but she wanted to choose wisely. Lusia didn't want to make friends with anyone too rowdy or too boring. Her first ride had to be just right but it was going to be difficult, considering the fact that she hardly knew anyone aboard.

She was wearing a thick, black robe the color of midnight, a crisp pair of black boots, and black eye patch made of snakeskin over her left eye. Lusia's black hair was cut an inch below her chin, contrasting against her pale skin. She resembled a small, thin yet sure commander in stride, but a tiny smile played on her lips, as she was ready for fun.

Lusia walked for some time before she grew anxious. She was ready to make friends and just meandering was not a good way to approach that task. She decided to look into the next compartment she was coming to, since the train was beginning to move.

She stepped into the doorway and looked between the two occupants, a boy and a girl. “Hello. Room for one more?” she asked, adjusting her eye patch.

“Hi! I… I am Carl is this seat taken,"
Perrin quickly straightened herself up, putting on a smile and extending her hand. He was short, fairly thin and wore glasses, he reminded her of a cute little puppy.
"Ah, hello! It's not taken, I was beginning to think no one else would come!" He seemed nice enough, a new friend? "My name's Perrin, Perrin Leveret. You can call me Peri, though!"
Sitting back in her seat, Perrin stretched and gave a yawn. Looking back at Carl, she was about to ask something when a voice interjected.
Hello. Room for one more?
Glancing up, her breath caught. A pale, black-haired girl stood in the doorway, an eyepatch covering one of her eyes. She was pretty, another friend? Why not? The more the merrier.
"Of course! I'm Perrin Leveret, what about you?"
Giving her a bright smile, she tucked her legs up into a criss-cross sitting position. Fidgeting with her fingers, she waited for the other two to settle in first.
"So, what house do you think you'll be in? I'd like Slytherin, but all of them are pretty cool!" The reason why she wanted to be in Slytherin was to be like her father, the ambitious and cunning lad he was during his time at Hogwarts. She wasn't about to say that out loud, though, first impressions were important.
"Which subject you reckon you'll like the most? They all seem so interesting! I can't decide." She gave an awkward laugh, running a hand through her already untidy hair.
She continued to fidget, channelling her nervousness into this act, leaving her demeanour kind and welcoming. New friends, a new school, the same old Perrin. Or would it be?

Carl took her hand and gave her a handshake. His grip was firm but gentle, letting go he took a seat by the window and fell silent again. He had always had play dates going on when growing up but he didn't know how many 'muggle-borns' there would be at this school. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Perrin, I..." Before he could finish another girl entered who was wearing an eye patch.

He let Perrin take the lead figuring she was the first one in this cabin. Trying to be polite he smiled at the new person, he stood up again this time offering her his hand. "Welcome aboard I am Carl," he said politely, his smile was truly warm and genuine. "Would you prefer the window seat or the one closer to the door," he asked the newcomer politely. After settling whatever seat that was not preferred by the newcomer he heard the questions Perrin began to ask.

"To be honest my Aunt Susan and I are the only magical people in my family. I haven't done much reading on the houses but I'll go with the flow and figure out where the hat decides to place me. I've already read a good portion of most of my textbooks, so far I am really digging the history of magic, Charms, and Defense against the dark arts!"

Falling silent again he noticed that Perrin was fidgeting. She seemed almost as nervous as he was, he didn't want any potential new friends to be anxious, they were now in this new journey together. "My mother made these," he said producing a plastic bag filled with brownies. "She figured I would meet some other students and I am grateful I have something to offer for new friends!" he opened the bag to offer to his new friends before taking a brownie for himself.

Lusia smiled at the two, appreciating the welcome. After returning the handshake to the one named Carl, giving a firm one, she sat down in the seat closest to the window, across from the girl, planting her boots firmly on the ground.

“Perrin and Carl sound like nice enough names; I go by Lusia Blest, but you can call me Lusia,” she said, running her eyes over them. The girl seemed a little fidgety while the boy seemed very sure of himself, with the way in which he spoke. They both appeared to be decent conversationalists so she settled back and relaxed in her seat.

The one named Perrin asked them about which house they thought they'd be sorted into. While Lusia contemplated her answer, Carl went on to share his thoughts.

Lusia wasn't entirely sure which House she'd fit in, that or she didn't care. Anything would do, because although she was looking forward to the Sorting, her focus was trained more on her academic achievements, because that's what her father would really be looking at, so he could compare her and her older sister.

Her eyes flickered over to Carl when he mentioned Defense Against the Dark Arts, a subject she was anticipating. She wondered if the class was as exciting as it sounded because she couldn't wait to learn the charms she'd use in dueling.

She wasn't the only one who noticed Perrin's fidgeting. The boy took out a bag full of brownies, offering it to the two girls. This piqued her interest because Lusia was sure that it was a muggle bag he was handling. Only they used plastic in this world.

She took one. After sniffing it for a moment, she bit into the soft, delicious chocolate and chewed on it, savoring the taste. She loved brownies.

“Thank you,” she replied, smiling at Carl. “Which house...I'm not sure, but I like the idea of Ravenclaw, perhaps even Slytherin. My parents are both Alumnis of the Serpents.”
