Friends on a Weekend PV Finished

Saoirse shook her head, "no, but thank you kindly" she shot Gabby one of her flashy smiles before turning back to her book as Gabby walked away. She readjusted her seat and went to take a small drink of her Butterbeer, of course she was immediately distracted by a few performs hopping up on stage. Comedians or singers, this place would have to wait to see. She hoped up onto the table being careful to watch for their stuff, when she saw Gabby looking over she motioned. "Hurry! Hurry! Gabs, your gonna miss it!" Saoirse called out, blissfully unaware of whether or not she was heard by her friend.
She couldn't be bothered now, this was her third show at the Leaky Cauldron. The first few times had been truly amazing, with a joke-show first and then there was a singer and some dancers. It was beautiful and this was looking to be big, no wonder this place was filled much, much more than the brim, some special show I assume. Saoirse looked back over at Gabby who seemed to try to hurry up her order, she didn't want Gabby to miss it. This was probably her first show at the Leaky Cauldron and she wanted it to be surreal for her friend.

Gabby spun around when Saoirse, worried at the urgency in her voice. Worry turned to excitement when she realized what it was for, but that then quickly turned to panic, as she realized that she was missing out on the show. Gabby had only been to the Leaky Cauldron four times, this being her fifth, and she had never been here when a show was on.
It was only afterwards, as she waited for an order, that Gabby realized what Saoirse had called her. Gabbs. There was nothing wrong with this, of course, but a shot of pain went through Gabby. That was what her father used to called her, when he was still alive. But the pain passed, and a warm feeling surged through her. It was nice to have a nickname, nicknames strengthened friendships. She needed one for Saoirse now... but she couldn't think of any. She'd have to ask Saoirse later.

When the order was delivered, she rushed over with the burger in hand, and sat down quickly next to Saoirse. Together they watched the show, Gabby loving the dancer especially. She turned to Saoirse to tell her.
"The dancers are great, aren't they?" she said. "Hey, by the way, do you have any nicknames? Names friends call you, you know? Or does everyone just call you Saoirse?"

Saoirse shrugged, the only nickname she had was given to her by her family, "my only nickname that I know of is Hob Goblin," Saoirse paused and smiled, "it was given to my by my father." It took no more than few seconds to realized why Gabby had asked, Saoirse had called her Gabs hadn't she. She hoped Gabby wasn't that offended.
"The dancers are great, aren't they?"
She nodded, "they're always really great, especially during night shows." Saoirse smiled at Gabby, hoping her friend was having a great time too. She had forgotten about sleeping, or the room she had rented, or any of the homework she needed. That was to be worried about later, when everything wasn't so pumped up, hyper active, and super excited. Taking another sip of her Butterbeer she motioned for her friend to come up onto the table too, they made the best seats when everybody's crowded around trying to get a good view.

Saoirse settled down and tried to listen to rhythmic flow of music, "hey is it...okay...if I call you, Gabs?" She darted her attention back over to Gabby who was also psyched just as she was for the events taking place, she wondered how many times Gabby had been over here. More or less than Saoirse shouldn't matter, they were here together now at least.

Gabby came over to where Saoirse sat, and made herself comfortable as she sat down. Before answering, she hesitated, unsure what to say. Gabby could easily say that it was fine if Saoirse called her Gabbs, and leave it at that. But Gabby never liked the idea of lying for no good reason, and Saoirse had proved her friendship.
"I don't mind if you call me Gabbs, I actually like it, but it just that... my dad, my papa - he used to call me that. He died when I was 7 though, and you saying it just made me remember him. Sorry," she added, "You probably don't want to know. Honestly, it's fine for you to call me that, I was just surprised for a bit, all the memories - they came back."

She played with her butterbeer cup, trying to ignore the painful memories that started to flood back at the mention of her papa. She swirled her finger around in her cup, then wiping it on her robes. She started to rake her brains for something else to say, eager to change the subject away from her dad's death.

"So, how did you get the nickname Hob Goblin?"

"So how'd you get the name Hob Goblin?"
Saoirse began giggling and nearly snorting as she remembered that story from so many years ago. "Well I was about three when this happened, like many other middle class families we live is a townhouse in the middle of one of the less scummy alleyways so we couldn't really do any gardening. Of course the nearby park had unused space and turned into a public garden of course people could buy bigger plots for a lifetime payment or a monthly down payment, since Gramsy was a green-thumb she jumped at the sound of a down payment and immediately began working on that garden plot ." She paused, taking a short breath and trying not to laugh once more.
"So one day she had taken me out to the garden with her, she was trying to plant some carrots and brought along some baked sunflower seeds for the both of us, I ended up eating all of mine and saw the opportunity to get more, my Gramsy had some of the plants roots sprouting up, and I ended up going to help when she began struggling to keep a root from sprouting up, we managed to do so but in the process, I may or may not have purposely squished the roots together and then ran off with her bag of baked sunflower seeds."
It felt harder to breath, and she giggled a bit more, "I ended charging out of the first gardenway and into the second, I tripped over a vine and began crying my heart out saying 'no, I'll do anything! Don't touch my sunflower seeds!' I was wailing and wailing and my Gramsy was charging over so I quickly threw the bag over the fence, unawhere that it was open and waited for my Gramsy who picked me up, began scolding me, and asked where her bag was, I said 'don't you have it' while not so subtly side-eying where I had thrown the bag, which was right in the middle of the lawnmower's pathway. My Gramsy had tried to get even more angry but just started letting out a hearty chuckle. It wasn't the first time I had pulled off a stunt like that but it was definitely what sealed my fate of becoming Hobgoblin." Saoirse took a deep breath and a drink of butterbeer.

Gabby laughed along with Saoirse at her story, because it was a funny one. The seeds, the wailing, Gabby could feel her stomach start to cramp as she continued. She forced herself to stop as the pain grew, but smiled along with the girl afterwards.
"A much better origin story than mine, I think," she commented afterwards. "Mine is just my name shortened, I think. It's like a nickname of a nickname though. Gabby is a nickname of Gabriela, and Gabbs a nickname of Gabby."

Gabby spun her cup around as she thought, playing with the words in her mind as she thought about them. To be honest, Saoirse was the first person she had told about her whole papa-thing, and she wasn't eager about the whole school knowing. But how to talk about such a delicate matter? She didn't want to say the wrong thing, or let Saoirse interpret it wrong? What to say? So, when Gabby did speak, she spoke slowly and carefully.
"And - do you think it would be okay if you didn't tell anyone about my dad? Some people... take it the wrong way. And I don't want to be known as the kid with a dead dad. Would that be - okay?"

Saoirse continued to giggle, fueled by Gabby's own laughter. It was exciting to have somebody to hang-out with on weekends that wouldn't judge you for past and present unlike others. She settled down after a bit once she noticed the solomn look on Gabby's face, it reminded her of her mother. The worst part was Gabby knew her father, she had clear memories with him, whereas even Saoirse could barely remember her mother at time.
"And - do you think it would be okay if you didn't tell anyone about my dad? Some people... take it the wrong way. And I don't want to be known as the kid with a dead dad. Would that be - okay?"
Saoirse nodded, "of course, I won't tell a single soul if you don't want me too. I know what it's like to lose a parent, I lost my mother years ago." She shuddered thinking about January, she wasn't ready for the new year, it meant just another year without her mother. She smiled at Gabby and gave her a hug, looking over at the time she sighed. "So do you want to go to the room or just stay here and continue to watch the show?"

Saoirse had lost a parent as well? While this was, of course, a horrible thing, and Gabby felt incredibly sorry for her friend, she also was slightly glad. It meant two things, Saoirse would be less likely to tell other students because she knew how it felt, and also, Gabby now knew that she could talk to Saoirse if she ever needed it. It felt good, knowing that Saoirse was there, like a support team. And vice versa, of course. If Saoirse ever needed someone to talk to, Gabby vowed that she would always be there to support the Hufflepuff.
"Sorry about your mum. That must have been horrible," she sympathized. "How old were you when it, you know, happened?"
After speaking, Gabby realised how insensitive the comment was, and scrambled for something else to say, already mentally cursing herself inside for the clumsiness.
"Good idea! We should definitely go up to a room. I'll just grab my books, and then should we go up? I've never been in one of the rooms before, how does it work? Do you pay for it, or just borrow?"
As she asked her questions, Gabby took a last swig of her butterbeer, finishing the glass, and swept up her textbooks underneath the crook of her arm, holding them tightly.

Saoirse smiled,"I was about three..." if someone had asked her that a few years ago, she would have cried her heart out. Now it was desensitizing, and she didn't care anymore.
"Good idea! We should definitely go up to a room. I'll just grab my books, and then should we go up? I've never been in one of the rooms before, how does it work? Do you pay for it, or just borrow?"
Saoirse stacked her cup inside the empty bowl and picked up her books, "don't worry about the room, I've already got it covered."She took Gabby's hand and whisked her off upstairs where it was deathly quiet, only the sound of the show downstairs lit up the hall. It had that musty, welcoming scent and a joyful atmosphere it was calming, whereas the flood of people just came to be annoying at a certain point. She swiftly unlocked the door and invited Gabby inside the dark room, with it's golden walls, velvet chairs, brick furnace, oak floor, and fluffy beds. Saoirse lit a couple candles and looked back over at Gabby, "I hope you don't mind having the left bed, but I'm going to take a quick rinse-off."
