Early in the morning of the 30th of January, Koko had practised for the game against Hufflepuff later in the week, but instead of immediately heading back to the castle, she had picked out two of the most splintered, rickety school brooms and carried them to a small clearing next to some of the higher parts of the castle. She wouldn't need them, but even if she did, she had her lovely Oakshaft for herself.

When the two students she'd caught in the astronomy tower (whatever her reasons for being there had been) had arrived, she would greet them with a grand smile, likely one they would consider a bit too peppy seeing as the sun had not quite risen yet. Koko, often an early riser, was fine with being out and about this early, but when she'd come up with this idea, she'd had to wonder if younger students would feel the same.

She had taken the liberty of asking one of the school's house elves for two drink pitchers, both of which were opaque and had steam coming out of the openings at the tops. She also had two mugs. One pitcher held coffee, and the other tea, just in case the students were not fully awake. She also had a healthy dose of invigoration draught in her pocket for herself, but the idea of allowing two awfully troublesome students to use her potions without payment was just... repugnant.

'Right, well, this is pretty simple. Those windows up there, belonging to the lavatories? You're going to clean them — on the outside. We've got brooms right here, and I'll keep an eye out for you should you fall. You'll be fine.' Well, she hoped. But even if they fell, she could at least slow their falling with a few quickly spoken words, or otherwise swoop in to catch them on her Oakshaft.

Who knew Quidditch skills would be useful in real life?

She handed them some warm washrags that she'd had one of the house elves fix for her, and she shot them another hopefully-winning smile. 'You'll use those. If they run out of soap or get too dry, I have more. And don't forget, I do have coffee and tea should you need a refreshment.'

This is a detention thread. Before you can join/create new threads, each of you has to write 400 words.

The task is to clean the lavatory windows from the outside. Should your character fall (OOC note: please do not fall ;-;), they will have their momentum slowed so that they safely land on the ground feeling light as a feather and perfectly fine.

A quiet sneeze echoed from Siobhan's nose as she remained bundled up in her coat and mittens while she trudged across the grounds to where Koko had instructed her and Prat to meet her. It was a vry cold late winter morning and Siobhan could feel the beginnings of a cold and sniffle fest coming on. Aside from that it was far too early to be cleaning. Her time here at Hogwarts had truly spoiled her in terms of early morning chores. Back at the farm, every morning she was in charge of collecting the eggs from their chickens and feeding the sheep. She would feed the cows too, but her father and oldest brother Eoghan insisted that the cows were too dangerous to feed in the morning.

She didn't think the sows were, personally, but they knew best when it came to the steer.

But the lack of chores here at school, besides folding her clothes after being brought back from the laundry, was rather boring too her. She tried to help out around the common room and her dormitory when she could. Neating up the place for whenever the older students or staff came into the shared areas. It was the least she could do.

But this was different. This was detention. Her first detention ever in all her academic history and it wasn't even her fault! It was Prat's! Somehow-

They had gotten caught in the Astronomy tower when they had been on their little map-quest and got stuck looking at the stars. Just as they had been planning to leave, Koko, the Slytherin Prefect, had caught them and sentenced them to the horror they were about to undergo.

Cleaning wasn't the horror, but the method by which they were supposed to be cleaning was. Koko had brought two rickety old brooms that looked as though they would snap under pressure for herself and Prat to use during their cleaning duties. Now she wasn't the greatest fan of flying in planes, what good would she be on a broom.

"o-oh... a broom..." was all she had said when she had come to to see the maniacal plot that Koko had constructed for them. Her hands and body shook with anxiety from the idea of having to "fly" on these brooms to reach a certain height that the windows were at. She dreaded even lifting off the ground for more than a mere moment.

But Koko did not intend for them to linger on the ground and had shoved warm wet cloths into their hands and waited for them to get going.

With a trembling step, and a near-seizure (metaphorically at least,) Siobhan sat herself on the broom and fretted as it raised itself higher and higher. She could feel the broom shaking underneath her and she very anxiously removed the hand with the cloth to start wiping the windows.

'The faster this is done the better,' Siobhan thought to herself as she wobbled back and forth on the broom trying desperately not to fall.

Prat was not by nature or nurture, someone who hated early mornings.

Yet he hated having to be there, Sharp jacket and his heavy tinted glasses. Strolling down the path that led to designated clearing. There was a sharp certain crispiness in the early morning air that bit at the edges of his sleeves. Tugging at the collar of his shirt and swirling faint steam from his breath as he walked.

Sio was already there, Koko too, with her all bright eyed and insufferably peppy for the hour.

He lifted his hand in a casual wave towards both but realized mid gesture Sio might not even be able to see it. He cut the motion short and moved beside Siobhan, and said quietly, "I waved to you, Good morning."

Politeness didn't cost him anything and it was too early for him to start complaining already.

He offered no complaint, no grumbling words about the cold or the punishing winter. After all, he wanted to wear the same badge one day. He knew the weight of enforcing rules and assumed some were bound to grow distaste towards his actions. Yet there was no bitterness towards the old prefect. She was doing her job, which while didn't make it fun, it was fair.

And fairness, at least in this narrow circumstance, was tolerable.

He poured himself a cup of coffee from the pitcher she had arranged. Eyes narrowing slightly, surveying the surroundings as he took a sip. Not a good roast but it was tolerable. Warming, if not more.

The brooms however were another matter entirely as he eyed them with visible disdain. They looked like the sort of flying hazards only Hogwarts would still keep around. They looked like skeletal remains of brooms that had already lived two lives too long.

"Charming," he muttered as he chose one anyway. Mounting the broom smoothly, he lifted off the ground with an elegance that defied the broom's pitiful state. The wind tugged at his sleeves as he rose beside the castle walls.

He arched a brow seeing the filth that lines the walls outside. Well, he had planned on a quiet morning but fate wasn't on his side.

He began to work methodically across the frost dewed panes as the snow melted and ran down. Dirt gathered into dark streaks and then wiped away beneath careful strokes. The motion of repetitive, efficient, clean and unsurprisingly boring.

He didn't mind the work, not really. There was something grounding in the physicality of it, in doing something beneath him once in a while were a good reflection of what his reality could've been. Humbled but not humiliated.

Descending, Prat landed lightly in the clearing again, brushing the ice from his sleeves as he dismounted and straightened his scarf. He glanced towards Siobhan, wordlessly checking if she was managing alright with her own broom.

Koko held a steaming hot cup of tea to warm her cold hands as she watched the students in the sky above her. It wasn't too unlike surveying her teammates during Quidditch practice. This had to be the best thing about being a prefect, at least when she was feeling creative enough to truly capitalise on it. What was the point of having to hand out detentions if you couldn't spice things up, anyway? Entertainment at its prime had to be this little show Koko had all for herself—and so early in the morning, too!

She couldn't help but wonder if either of them would drop their cleaning supplies. What an absolute bummer that would be. For them, of course. For Koko, it would mean more time to enjoy the crisp air of the morning, more time to happily observe these youths performing a job well-done. Certainly, this was one of the more important skills school could teach children: how to clean. It was nearly as good as time management or paying taxes.

Koko reached into her coat's pocket and pulled out her small phial of invigoration draught. She uncorked it and tipped some of it into her mug. She hadn't brought anything to stir it in with, so she just moved the cup in a circular motion to try to bring it all together. She took another sip, and her smirk returned to her lips. A cool breeze battered her cheeks, and her hair flew about her as she just... observed.

Finally, Prat began to come back down from the sky.

'Done so soon?' Koko queried, raising a sharp eyebrow. 'Perhaps record timing. You can help yourself to a warm drink if you'd like.' See? She was nothing if not kind. 'Or, well, I suppose you could help your friend up there. She seems a bit wobbly.'

Koko had no intention of getting in the air herself, even if it would have meant showing off the lovely vintage Oakshaft of hers. No—should Siobhan fall, Koko would simply say it was her own damn fault. Or perhaps Prat's, for not looking out for her as a friend ought to.

She took another sip of her tea and leaned back against a tree, letting out a contented sigh as she continued to watch Siobhan keep working.

You've both completed the requirements (a... long time ago...) so no need to keep posting here unless you'd like to! I just wanted to get out a reply.
