As the huge doors opened to the Great Hall, Lilith was awestruck. The sheer size and grandeur was a sight to behold. She became mesmerized by the ever-changing ceiling. There were dots of lights representing the stars scattered throughout the dark sky. Their positions seem to dance and swirl as she walked. "I'm never going to be tired of that", she thought to herself. She was so busy staring at the ceiling that when the group of first years had stopped she didn't even notice. She crashed into the girl in front of her, earning an intense glare. She quickly muttered an apology and focused her attention ahead. There was four long tables with mountains of foods, more than she had ever seen in her life. She had lived a well-to-do life before coming to Hogwarts but this was extravagant. The scent of freshly cooked food wafted into her nose and she began to salivate for the meal to come. Each table had their own colour scheme: red, blue, green and yellow. The students around each table dressed in the colour of their respective houses. As she looked at the green table, she remembered that she could be sorted into Slytherin. She watched as the Sorting Hat was placed on the stool in front of them and listened to it as it sang its song. Her thoughts began to wander, fearful that she would not be able escape her fate.

"Hayes, Lilith" cried out Professor Lear

She slowly walked up to the stool and the Sorting Hat, her eyes wide with anticipation. She sat down and the Sorting Hat was placed on her head.

"I see," began the Sorting Hat. "I remember your parents, both cunning and ambitious. They did well in Slytherin. I see you have the same ambitious streak"

Lilith felt her blood freeze as she heard the Sorting Hat consider putting her into Slytherin. Her hands began to shake, terrified of what it would choose. She had the right mind to rip the Hat off her head and run away.

"But I see a curiosity in you that is different.", continued the Sorting Hat. "Perhaps it may become wisdom... the best house to help you cultivate that would be... RAVENCLAW!!"

She was shocked by the Sorting Hat's decision that it took her a minute to process what had just happened. She felt a surge of energy as she leaped off the stool and towards the Ravenclaw table now clapping, celebrating their new house member. "Maybe I can be better than them," she thought to herself as she sat down surrounded with students decked out in blue.

Gienna shrugged as she entered the Great Hall. A girl next to her was going on and on about her worries and had asked her what she thought of the Sorting Ceremony. Gienna had thought about it sometimes but she didn't mind which house she got into, as long the choice didn't make the rest of her life unbearable.

Her dad had been a Hufflepuff and her mom had been a Gryffindor. Even though she heard that the Sorting wasn't based off of heritage but her own personality, she figured that she'd get into Gryffindor like her mum, because they were a lot like. Both of them showed courage despite their fears and that made them really brave in unpleasant situations.

Gienna was like her friendly mom somewhat, but she couldn't see herself as a Hufflepuff. So it was either Gryffindor or Slytherin, because even though she loved being at the top of her class, it wasn't to boast her knowledge but to boast her superiority over others. Gienna had an unwavering thirst for power.

She wandered towards the front of the line of first years, leaving the anxious girl behind. She was curious about how this was going to go on and a front row seat was the best idea.

Gienna listened as the Headmaster have his speech and when the Sorting Hat sang his annual song. She paid attention to the song, trying to see if any house stuck out to her in particular, but none of them did. She'd just have to wait until it was her time to be sorted.

After going through the list alphabetically, the person calling out names finally got to 'K'. Gienna waited apprehensively for her name to be called.

“Koski, Gienna.”

Gienna walked over to the stool, chin held high, and sat down. The person behind her lowered the Sorting Hat over her head.

“Another Koski, after many years.”

Gienna pursed her lips, wondering how this was going to go. She wondered if she would have to answer questions or if it would decide by going through her memories.

The Sorting Hat was silent for the most part, making little sounds here and there as it went through her mind. Gienna felt a little uncomfortable, since she had her own handful of embarrassing events. But she tried to relax in the seat, staring at the walls of the room instead of the crowd of students.

Finally the Sorting Hat came to a decision. “I can see that you have compassion, but only for those dear to you. Anyone else most win your empathy, and that's no trivial task. You never lack ambition, you always have a goal in mind to achieve, and you work tirelessly for them. You value knowledge, but not as much as gaining respect for your success. Proving your worth is for the glory of it.”

Gienna cracked into a smile, knowing full well that she was about to get into Gryff—

“Sʟʏᴛʜᴇʀɪɴ.” the Sorting Hat boomed.

The new Slytherin sat their baffled for a moment but then stood up, facing the table clad in green with the loudest applause. Gienna eyebrows were furrowed in confusion but she headed over to her table, grinning at her new housemates. She had knew that it was indeed possible for her to get into this house, only she didn't think she'd get into it.

She sat down and caught the eye of someone in the Hufflepuff crowd. It was the girl who had spoken to her before but now she was beaming and looked almost overwhelmed by the amount of students talking to her. Gienna felt a little ache inside her, yearning for what that girl had, but she forced her face to remain unbothered; this was her house now, and she was going to make the best of it.

May entered the Great Hall, along with the other first years, when many other first years were being sorted into there house, May was trembling of fear, but of excitement too, she asked herself, ''In witch house will I be in? '' now and then seeing all the first years come and go to the sorting hat.

At last, the Proffesor called out:

May Moonstar!

Then, May stepped into the floor, everyone seeing her , when they puted on the sorting hat to her head, and mumbled, ''Well, Well, in witch house will I put you?'' '' you are intelligent, like a Ravenclaw, BUT that is not going to be youre house! Hufflepuff!'' May runned down the stairs, a smile in her face, now knowing that , she was in a trustworthy house, and she was happy where she was.

She was a muggle-born, so she couldn't be even a bit sure about witch house she would be in. She read a LOT about Hogwarts houses, and she thought that she would be a mix of Ravenclaw, or Griffindor. And, look! I was wrong. Im a Hufflepuff! And Im proud of it! She thought that if she would have been a Slytherin. Or maybe a Griffindor. OR even a Ravenclaw! How would it feel like?

The doors of the Great Hall opened. She looked up at the changing ceiling, then at the first years, who were waiting to be sorted. She sat down next to a first year, who immediately started yammering in her ear. After a few minutes, her head started to hurt.
“Jones, Snow!” She heard Lear’s voice call out.

Snow walked up to the Sorting Hat. She didn’t feel nervous. She felt joyful, and plopped down onto the chair. She put on the Sorting hat, and help on to it as if it would fall off.
She felt like a Slytherin. She related to that house more than any other. She waited for a signal.
Hmm... She heard in her ear. A mischievous little girl, seems very cold... Pureblood! But her kindness is pure also... This is a tough one... Guess she would be a great fit for...
Slytherin? She thought.

Gryffindor!

Ah. She thought.

She walked up to the table. She didn’t want to touch anybody’s hands-not because she hated them, because she felt uncomfortable when she touched other people. Then she realized she seemed like she didn’t want to be here. So she shook their hands, then made a mental note to wash her hands afterward.

Sorry, I don’t speak dimwit.

Meghan sat alone on the hogwarts express. She stars out the window, too shy to approach any of the other first years as they chattered amoungst themselves.

When they arrived, Meghan was last off of the train due to many students shouldering past her on their way to the exit, causing her to be stuck in her compartment alone. Meghan felt a pang if sadness as she walked with the other first years towards the castle that she assumed was hogwarts - over to the boats on the lake.

Meghan wasn’t alone on the boats luckily, however the people she ended up sitting with didn’t look happy about being in the same boat as her.

When they arrived, Meghan just followed the others, dimly aware of walking. As she stood in line waiting, Meghan couldn’t help but feel inferior. There were so many witches and wizards in the room - whilst she had been an ordinary human up until a week ago.

When her name was shouted, she walked forwards and sat on the stool. The hat was placed on her head and it sat there for a good 5 minutes just mumbling to her before finally shouting “HUFFLEPUFF!” Meghan admits she was a bit disapointed and couldn’t help but to look longingly at the Ravenclaw table as she went and sat with her fellow hufflepuffs.

As the first years drew closer to the Great Hall, Lusia began to worry less if she were ready for the Sorting and more if the Sorting was ready for her. She had no idea which House she'd be placed in because she genuinely carried all of the traits. She felt like she was as brave as a Gryffindor, intelligent as a Ravenclaw, loyal as a Hufflepuff, and as cunning as a Slytherin. Her father and mother respectively had instilled these characteristics in their children, not necessarily for this particular event but because they felt like it prepared them for life as a wizard.

But this left Lusia bewildered of her own fate, not that it mattered in the end. The houses of Hogwarts were meant generally for organizational purposes and to also give a community for every student that entered the institution. But Lusia, like many other students, were expected to have pride for their house and she liked to be prepared for this kind of thing. It was going to be hard when she had next to no idea which house she would fit into.

The Great Hall finally came into view. They were greeted by the sight of the worn Headmaster, a man she somewhat recognized from old newspapers as Professor Solomon Lear. She heard many rumors about him, such as the lost of his daughter and something about a deranged wife, but Lusia didn't pay much attention to politics and media at this age.

She looked up at this man clad in armor with a head full of grey hair. She wondered how old he was and if he were over a hundred like other headmasters turned out to be. Lusia decided not to ask out of respect.

They entered the Great Hall, which was packed with several professors and hundreds of students. The amount of eyes was a little terrifying but Lusia held her own, focusing on the decorations of the room. Four tables were adorned with the colors and symbols of each house, one for the lions, one for the eagles, one for the serpents, and one for the badgers. Above floated the candles, which lit up the room, but the main focus was the ceiling dotted with stars to mirror the starry night sky. It all looked fantastic to Lusia but she was forced to pay attention because the Sorting Ceremony was about to start.

The Headmaster gave his speech, welcoming the students, new and old, to the new school year. Lusia listened intently but she was ready for the Sorting Hat's song to start. She didn't have to wait for long, because a few moments later his voice rang out, loud and clear.

Lusia tried to focus on the words, hoping that anything in particular would stand out to her, signifying that she was destined for a certain house. But nothing did, and she was left disappointed in the end. Lusia told herself that it would all make sense once it was her turn to be sorted but it discomforted her not knowing beforehand which House she'd most likely get into.

Both of her parents were in Slytherin. Although her mother often bragged that the Sorting Hat nearly put her in Ravenclaw, that didn't change the fact that they were both snake Alumnis. Lusia didn't have a problem with it but she knew that she wasn't going to be out in a house just because her family was known for it. Her older sister Rosario was a Hufflepuff, and a too proud one at that. In their arguments Lusia liked to remind her that if she had gotten into Gryffindor she wouldn't be their father's favorite at all.

That's why Lusia half-heartedly hoped that she wouldn't be sorted into Gryffindor, just to avoid her father's angst. He hated the house of lions with a passion, just because he had been kicked off the Quidditch team to losing to one. The same Gryffindor had made him come second place in marks all the time, which added on to his hatred. But that wasn't Lusia's problem.

The girl fiddled with her eye patch as she waited for her name to be called, which wasn't that long of a wait. “Blest, Lusia.”

She brushed past the other first years and made her way to the chair. The Sorting Hat sat upon it, gazing up at her curiously. As soon as she placed it upon her head it began to speak.

“Another Blest...how's the previous looking for you?” he asked, supposedly referring to the last one to be sorted.

“...you mean my sister? Rosario is doing alright, I guess.” She wondered how that had anything to do with her.

“Good, good, let's get on with it, shall we...I see, this will be no trivial task...hmph...is that so...ah, a feisty one!...hmm, to choose, to choose...” The Sorting Hat went on like this for several seconds more than she'd thought. Is he stumped like I am? I knew it, I'm good enough for all of them. But if only he'd choose faster! These stares are getting bothersome...

Finally, after several years, it seemed, the Sorting Hat came to a conclusion. “Mark my words, you are one uncanny Blest, young lady. For that, I shall put you in the house of...serpents, ah, yes, that shall fair well for you, for I look forward in seeing the ambitious woman you'll come to be.”

Lusia's lips cracked into a smile just as he boomed, “SLYTHERIN.” The students, particularly the ones in green, erupted into a loud applause as she approached her newfound house, one in which she hoped she truly belonged.

Carl stood awkwardly surrounded by other students waiting for their turn. They were all nervous but Carl didn't do enough research but the various houses. He figured that wherever he ended up everything would just work out. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity his name was called. It took a second for him the process this but he moved briskly to the chair he was to sit in.

Sitting in the chair suddenly the hat was planted on his forehead. "Well well well.... It seems like nearly yesterday I sorted your aunt Susan. But, you are quite different, quite different indeed. Behind those glasses is a cunning spirit, maybe the house of the serpent would be the place for you. No wait, there's something about you that prevents you from casting certain things aside in the case of your ambitions. I wonder... Oh, you are a curious boy indeed! Maybe you have a pair of talons too eh? What's this, oh yes your thinking about your family and your muggle friends. You were quite the pickle Mr. Edwards but I know beyond a doubt you belong to...."

"Hufflepuff!!!!!!"

The Hufflepuff table erupted as Carl stood up, for a moment he was taken aback. He never had a huge ovation but then again this was a common response throughout new prospects during the sorting ceremony. Quickly he moved to plop down on a nearby table, excited to learn more about his house but also to make some new friends.

All the other students she met on the trip here had already been sorted into their respective houses, so Erika stood alone near the entrance of the Great Hall, trying to find ways to pass the time. She was only vaguely aware of the other students still being sorted at the far end of the lengthy room since she tuned them out a while ago, though she had really only paid attention when someone she knew was getting sorted in the first place.

So instead of listening to the Sorting Hat blabber on about people who were complete strangers to her, the brunette was in the process of counting the candlesticks floating overhead. It was a bit difficult since the room was so large and they kept moving around, but, after multiple attempts, she got so frustrated that she just settled on the number seventy-four and called it a day. It was probably very wrong, she knew, but she didn't care anymore.

But it wasn't just the candles that drew her eyes away from the ceremony — the invisible ceiling caught Erika’s attention as well. She had never seen a night sky so clear or with so many stars all shining so brightly at once! The moving pictures also served as interesting conversation partners. Compared to everything else she’d seen in this castle so far, a talking hat seemed bland, almost normal.

Everything about this experience was just so surreal, it was all she could do to pretend like it was normal. Her mother explained the fundamentals of the school to her before she left, and those she befriended on the train and boat elaborated further, but seeing it in person was a lot different than hearing it from someone else. Growing up in a muggle-style life, almost everything she saw here was new to her. She now knew that she wasn't alone, but she feared if she acknowledged it she’d go insane.

Most people would probably be ecstatic to learn not only about the existence of magic, but also that they had the ability to control it. Not Erika. As far as she was concerned, her life was fine before magic made its grand entrance. Maybe even better.

"Erika Meyer!"

She jolted at the sound of her name, bringing her attention back to the front of the room. So it was her turn, huh.

She brought a smile to her face and strut forward confidently, despite every step she took causing nervousness to blossom in her gut. She remembered what her friend told her on the train, about the hat they sorted people with being able to read the thoughts of anyone who wore it. She wasn't very keen on the idea of anyone or anything snooping around inside her head, and had she been aware of it earlier she would have protested. She was only willing to go through with it because she had to; there was absolutely no way around it now. She just wanted to get this ceremony over and done with as soon as possible.

Erika plopped down on the stool and crossed her legs in one fluid motion, forcing herself to keep the stiff smile on her face as she returned the stares of hundreds of clustered faces. She pulled her hands into her lap to hide the slight tremor that had overtaken them. She normally didn’t mind being the center of attention, but this situation was a bit different from her usual mischief. Not to mention, there were A LOT of people here. Like, a ton.

Her shoulders tensed up as she felt the weight of the magical hat settle on her head. She immediately felt half a foot taller, having to balance the worn vintage material atop her head. How old was this hat anyway? It wasn’t that it was very heavy — just tall and oddly shaped. If it weren’t for the slight movements it exhibited, it might have felt like a normal hat.

That was, until it spoke.

"Nervous, are we?" a voice rumbled in Erika’s ears, causing her to jump. It was one thing hearing the Sorting Hat’s voice boom across the expanse of the room, and quite another to hear it right up against her ear — she could feel the vibrations against her head when it spoke.

"A little," she admitted in a whisper, "But I’m fine." It felt strange to have a conversation with a hat, but she wasn’t uncomfortable with it. Not exactly.

"Ah, independent, I see… No… just willful. Yes… A free spirit is what I am dealing with." Erika didn't quite follow what the hat was saying, but let it continue anyway. “You show great pride in your talents, with a strong ambition to succeed. However, you choose to let your successes and failures define you and place your self-worth in your performance. You are stubborn and aren’t afraid to stand up for what you believe in. You might fit well in Slytherin if it weren’t for your lack of self-control.” Erika frowned at this. What was this dumb hat talking about? She had plenty of self-control! “You impulsively take action and seek adventure for thrill and glory, rarely accounting for the consequences that will follow for yourself and others in doing so. The decisions you make, the actions you take, they walk the border of recklessness. That speaks for itself, I believe. It is clear where you belong.”

“Okay, maybe, but—”

“GRYFFINDOR!” The hat cut her off, releasing a number of cheers from the far left table. It probably sensed that if it allowed her to continue she would only argue. And yet, as the hat was removed from her shoulders, Erika couldn’t help but feel like she had offended it in some way.

Good. It offended her.

Erika marched over to the long table with students donned in red and gold, grumpy and frustrated with life. She normally wasn’t like this, but arriving here at Hogwarts was a lot to take in on its own and kind of overwhelming. She already wished she was back home with her mom, dad, and newborn baby brother. Or better yet, back in Munich with the childhood friends she had to leave behind when they moved to England. It had already been over a year and she still missed her hometown.

She dropped heavily onto the bench as she received pats on the back from her new housemates. She produced a weak smile in an attempt to save her first impression with the people she would be spending the most time with here at the prestigious School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with a very unappealing name.

While walking in line with the fellow first year students Gabriel was completely quiet, but inside he was surprised because of the place, not only to mention the magic aspects like the flying candles or the fake-sky that scared him at first but of how old it looked!,he loved that. Nevertheless he, as most of the new students, were scared, constantly thinking "how am I going to be selected?, what magic method will be used?, when suddenly Lewis and the new year students stopped in front of an old hat that was having it's own seat, but it wasn't placed in the table but in front of it.
"Weird" Gabriel tought for a second ,while rapidly Gabriel's eyes opened and closed like he was having some sort of knowledge epiphany.
"That hat is going to analyse us,isin't it?"

With a poker face he saw how time to time a student was called, placed the hat on it's students head and, for Gabriel's disgrace he was right
"That beautiful old hat talks and reads minds!".
It's not like he had any secret to hide, but the idea of begin mind-analysed scared him a little;because of it Gabriel was sumerged in his thoughts while a loud voice says
"Gabriel Lewis!" surprised at first but without showing it,he sat on the chair and the teacher placed that big hat on it's head.

"Hmm Oh!" The Sorting hat said out loud
"A Lewis, such time since I don't see one of you're familiy"

"Nice to meet you" Gabriel said, while in his mind he was trying to test the Hat, thinking to himself "Love your design, can you hear me?, does it both-" when he was interrupted by the voice from above.

"Hmm I see.. you're quite hard to decipher ,since it appears that you are neutral ,but... I can sense a big amount of will, and an unused big capability for learning new knowledge.."
For a while the hat kept silent when,suddenly..
"Ravenclaw!"

After that he got up,the teacher took out it's hat but suddenly and lowly he said to Gabriel
"Thanks for the compliment",that said,he got to an empty seat while he was blushing and quietly smiling.

She walked in line with the other First Years (who were all scared like her) while she admired the Great Hall. I've never seen the Sorting Hat before... It's so cool. I wonder if everyone here heard the same stories as me... It's even more beautiful than in the stories. The professors sat down and started to call the names. She wondered when her name would be called. She sat down and dreamed away. She glanced around and saw everyone in the hall. She saw a ghost and waved at him. She began wondering about what happened after death. Does everyone turn into ghosts? Do just the nice people go to the afterlife? She started looking at the other student's plates. What is that purple drink? Do the other kids like me? Should I talk more? All these questions raced through her mind. A few minutes later, she could just catch her name being called. "Rue Hamilton...! Rue Hamilton?" She almost squealed in surprise. She ran up and couldn't help smiling when the hat got placed on her head. "I sense.... lots of unused knowledge. Bravery too... A difficult witch." The hat said out loud. "Ravenclaw!" She Jumped off to the Ravenclaw table.

Mon ami pour toujours, Rue.
