The first modern newspapers were developed in the 1600’s to provide information, for salespeople of the time. It was not as commonly found as modern newspapers are until the 19th century during which one could find newspapers in many cities along the world. However; it was less common to find solid newspapers today as many have began to favor electronic publication rather then print.

Newspaper often inform the public of recent events, they also provide knowledge of culture, and, entertainment. Being recent films books opinion pieces or even the weather. Juicy gossip however fun can’t actually reduce a newspapers credibility at times and can cause it to be referred too as a tabloid. Some people might enjoy to be on the front page of a newspaper because it can make them the center of attention but others would be likely to clam the headline or article is untrue. 

Thus: Dear readers, what do you think about journalistic integrity. We implore you to tell your thoughts so we might comment on them in the next issue of the Headliner, in which, we will highlight the difference between the juciest tabloids and the most hard-hitting reporters of facts.

Our current Secretary, Livia Machavariani, has been made Head of House on her staff account, Jessamine Lancaster. She has done an excellent job leading this team alongside me for over a year, and I am sure she will do equally excellently in her new role.

This means that we are now searching for a new Secretary to fill the gap she is leaving behind. We also have a position open for one coder. The deadline for both of these applications is the end of the day on November 7, 2025. 1 Secretary Needed!

The newspaper Secretary is second-in-command. This is both an OOC and IC role offered to only one person. In the case of an EiC resignation, the Secretary may opt to take control. Secretaries are not expected to write articles, edit, or code, but can if needed; therefore a wide skill set is necessary for this member. Their main purpose is team management and other administrative duties alongside the EiC. This includes potentially working with the EiC on internal team development, managing applications and new hires, performing activity checks, record keeping, organisation, handling correspondence, granting moral support, etc.

Our method for main issues is BBCode, but smaller specials may still utilise full graphics if the team chooses. Flexibility is highly recommended for this position.

The Gulf of Guinea is a key area in African trade, located in the northernmost part of the Atlantic Ocean. In 2003, there were 39 piracy attacks alone. The issue of piracy in the gulf of guinea first came about sometime in the early 2000s, for example, the attack on January 4th of 2009, when a group of pirates hijacked a French ship, which was freed after 4 days of being held. However, there were attacks going on up to around seven years before this particular attack, as it is just one of many.

The pirates in West Africa had committed attacks on 966 seafarers during the year of 2012, as well as holding hostages for an average of four days. These captives were reported being at a much greater risk to violence than those in the Indian Ocean, of which a total of five hostages were reported dead due to these attacks in West Africa, with no other fatalities being reported elsewhere.

Since then, between 2015 and 2016, there was a 77% piracy raise in the area. By 2015, there had been 57 noted attacks that year. The International Maritime Bureau reported that the number of attacks occurring in West Africa had, by 2012, surpassed those of the ones in the Indian Ocean.

It is also noted that the three main elements that were released as a sure way to overcome a piracy issue, those elements being a sufficient amount of men ready to fight back, the legal and political areas of the state to be hands-on in terms of fighting back, and a non-corrupt anti-piracy team located within the government, are all elements that Nigeria lacks. These elements are vital to ridding the state of the piracy issue.

The Turkish Maritime Task Group has expressed the desire to help Nigeria rid itself of its piracy issue by working with the Nigerian Navy to eliminate these activities and operations. The Turkish Naval commander has announced that these efforts would be made in order to maintain safe sea affairs and communications within the gulf, as well as to support the on-going efforts of tackling the piracy issue. This would contribute to the Turkish Naval personnel the opportunity to present their ideas regarding the issue. The plan is to present Turkish ideals as to how to stop such illegalities and present to Nigeria new strategies when it comes to handling such vessel attacks.
