The moment her voice wavered with that question. Why he wanted to spend time with her? Prat didn't immediately respond. He didn't have an immediate reaction, not because he was stunned to silence but he wasn't sure how to word his truth in a way that didn't sound stupid or worse...vulnerable.

He tightened his grip on her hand just slightly, not possessively but steadily, assuringly. His eyes sharp and perceptive, flicked ahead towards the path they were about to take instead of towards her.

It wasn't out of obligation, never was.

And the academic rival comment almost made him scoff. Rivalry? He would never say it out loud, not in a million years but the thought she even thought of the two as academic rivals was endearing, bold and misguided. In his own mind, Prat had no rivals, just contenders playing catch up.

He could've told her he asked because it made sense. She was tolerable and knew how to banter long enough to not bore him. He wasn't being treated like an emotionless automaton with a wand a pompous title.

He could've possibly said he liked her company, but he wasn't sure if that was the truth and nor was he in the habit of saying such statements. He had a reputation to maintain, even the walls had ears in a castle as old as one such as Hogwarts. But none of that escaped his mouth. He let her talk, letting her finish her thoughts all while his own swirled in a quiet private part of his brain.

Instead he let her finish, standing right beside her as Neo began to show sings of dozing off in the crook of his other arm, tail flicking lazily.

When she muttered, “Don’t answer quickly. Or at all. I was just talking. I’d like to have a walk about the Garden and a snack,” he didn’t miss the soft slope in her tone. Something between exhaustion and vulnerability.

"Geez," me replied back, his light tone almost mocking, "So demanding, Now I'm not even allowed to speak my side." His words shot back quick, "You're just looking for a chance to spend more time with me. Can't blame you though, I am wildly entertaining and fun to be around."

Nearing the staircase, he gave her hand a little tug signaling they were about to descend. "Did you grab toaster?" he asked, glancing back, scoping the balcony before they embarked further below. Despite his refusal or rather complete ignorance of Sio's comment on his attempts at thieving her cat, Prat had all the plans to steal him from Sio. While he wouldn't steal steal it. The idea of familiarizing himself with everyone's' pets to the point of a close bond was chief among his other nefariously planned deeds.

"Careful, watch your step, they are moving around right now." The constantly moving staircases still remained a mystery to Prat. Why wouldn't they just stay fixed to one place and reduce the hassle for all those involved.

His tone had dulled a little, still laced with that casual nonchalance that he always carried; but quieter now. Something that would change as soon as they were in the presence of a bigger crowd.
