It was early and cold only one of those things agreed with Santario and it wasn’t the early part. She was bundled up in her normal school attire, but this time she had remembered her gloves and ironically wore a Gryffindor scarf around her neck. She had given her scarf to Kaegen and that left her with the scarf she had borrowed from Kyle to support him during his quidditch match. She walked out towards the garden knowing that she might be beating Quinn there. As soon as she had heard about the help that the herbology teacher needed she had asked Quinn if he wanted to help her as well. If anything it provided an opportunity for the two to get to know each other a little better as well.

Once she had arrived, earlier than she had anticipated, she would find a collection basket and walk over to the herbs that they would be collecting this morning and set it on the ground. She didn’t know how good Quinn was with gardening or anything to do with herb gather, however, if anything the boy could hold the basket while she gathered, and he could batch them into their bundles, and she could tie them.

No doubt she would soon see the frame of the tallboy making his way over and when he did get close enough to her she would wave by simply lifting her fingers and dropping them back onto her palm three times. “Good morning, Quinn. Her voice was sleepy and tinged with a rarely heard French accent. Most people heard her normally British or when she was angry Irish, but on those rare occasions where Santario was caught still sleepy, the French accent found their way into her words.

“Thank you for agreeing to do this with me.” Santario enjoyed Quinn's company and as much as she could have just come out here alone and get it done herself she would rather do it with a friend. She knew there was a reward for it, but she really did just love doing these things in the first place and would have offered to help the professor even if he wasn’t offering a reward.

It was a briskly cold morning and it was early as all even for Quinn, and yet? He was absolutely brimming with energy. There was something about cold early mornings that just gave him an extra boost of energy. He was dressed in his usual robes having his large scarf covering his neck and the lower part of his face mostly his mouth. He wore no gloves as he disliked how restrictive they felt.

His boots crunched along to the crisp dew covered grass. It smelled so...so pure. So full of life, and it was absolutely glorious. His slightly pale fair skin cheeks were so red that they nearly hid his dark freckles. "Brannigan's frahzen balls it feels foehckin great dis mahrnin!" His Irish accent coming through thick as thieves. His voice in the cold air carrying enough volume to be clearly heard as his frame that seemed to grow bit by bit each day came lumbering over. Santario now coming to within his sights.

"Mahrnin sanrio doesn't de cahld feel great tahday!" He had an unusually chipper tone and demeanor on this particular morning. It was definitely different from his very spontaneous kind of depressed and skiddish self at later times in the day. He ran both his hands through his long curly mess of hair slicking it back naturally as for the moment at least it stayed surprisingly where it was. Quinn now stood next to her still towering over her and if he they didn't know each other he might freak her out or she might think him an adult. "'eh dahn't mention it sanrio I lahve readin abooeht plants believe it ahr naht boeht I fear wit me large 'ands I might naht be de best to 'elp peck. Stell i'm mahre den 'appy to 'elp any way I can joehst lead de way."

He didn't even think about the fact that his voice may perhaps be too thick to understand especially with it being so early in the morning. Along he went with it as he had no intention or even realization to try and make his speech more understandable. "So while we get dis dahne. Wooehld you like to 'ear sahme cool plant facts me grandmahther tahld me. I dahn't know 'ow to prahnooehnce many o' de names boeht i'll try."

Santario, although extremely sleepy, giggled lightly at Quinn. She understood him for the most part, but it was definitely way too early for this. When she replied to him her own French accent was still thick and probably would be for the first part of their morning slowly working its way out of her speech as she spoke. “Yes, the cold does feel good.” Quinn being there and the cold were the only two good things about being awake right now besides the fact that she truly loved to garden.

She blinked a couple of times at him as he spoke trying to keep up with his accent, but she was moving a little slower today than usual. Then after a second, it clicked what he said, or at least most of what he said. “I assumed it would be easier for me to pick. Smaller hands and all.” She gave him a cheeky half-grin as she held the collection basket out to him. “It doesn’t look like anyone has touched the Valerian so I figured we could work on that. And I would love to listen to stories about your gran!”

Once he took the basket, she would lead him over to a grouping of Valerian. A plant that had a low lying shrubbery and tall stalks of flowers. Though no doubt the taller stalks of flower heads would have been snipped off earlier in the year to stop the seeds from blowing everywhere and taking over the entire grounds. She removed her gloves and shoved them into a pocket before reaching up and tying her hair back into a low ponytail and tucking it into the scarf around her neck so that her hair wouldn’t get in the way.

After that, she would push her sleeves up and kneel in the dirt starting to carefully break the stems off for the leaves. She didn’t have to be too careful considering she would by the time they were done be uprooting this entire plant so that they could also collect the roots of the valerian plant. The leaves were good as well, but the roots were more powerful with their effects. As she picked leaves and put them into the basket, she would be listening intently to anything Quinn was saying especially if he started in on a story from his Gran. If he were paying attention, he would notice her hands, even though she was sleepy, moved with delicate skill. It would be clear that she had done this before.

Quinn carefully watched her for some brief moments. His observations revealed that indeed she apeared to be experienced in her task. It was obvious. There was a certain deftnesss to her hand movements and the way in which she picked the herbs they needed. Quinn stood close to her keeping low so that she could easily deposit the herbs they needed into the basket. "Well dis stahry 'appens to be one frahm me gran's yooehth when she was stell stell new in de field. She actually set ooeht to fend new species o' plants magical and nahnmagical so where ded she decide to look? If you guessed eurahpe den you wooehld be soehrprisengly wrahng." The last sentence garnering a small laugh from him. "You see, as de stahry goes me gran wanted to venture places few wizards ventured. In fact she wanted to venture deeper into a place few dared recklessly explahre. So where ded she go i ask again? She went to nahne ahther dan de amazahn rainfahrest. As you can imagine many looked at 'er as if she 'ad two screws and a bahlt loose. Boeht me gran is nahthin if naht stoehbbahrn and sure. wance she makes a decision she stecks to it." He explained unconciously expressing how he was feeling through his very vibrant hand motions that threatened to drop or tip the basket he was holding.

What he just said was more than a mouthful so he decided to let her absorb the flurry of information he just dropped on her. For a brief moment the young Half-Giant closed his eyes to hear the sounds of nature, feel the small breeze in his hair, and feel the nipping cold at his cheeks. It was relaxing it reminded of home but more than that it made him feel...right. Quinn could not allow themselves to get lost in their thoughts now he needed to observe and regail her with the stories of his gran. He had to help somehow couldn't leave it all to her afterall. Reopening his eyes the boy continued. "Well as I ded a poor jahb o' 'intin at earlier she ded in fact descahver new species o' plants boeht naht magical ahnes sadly. No de mahst nahtable din she descahvered ahn dis adventure an oehndescahvered tribe dat was descahnnected cahmpletel frahm de ooehtside wahrld. Isn't dat amazin!?" He exclaimed rather loudly his voice booming slightly. Blushing lightly he covered his mouth embarrassed. "S-Saerry goet a little carried away." He laughed sheepishly.

"See as you may ahr may naht know. All arooehnd de wahrld evidence o' tribes and grooehps o' people dat lived der lives cahmpletely detached frahm de rest o' de wahrld is mooehntin. De amazahn 'as presumably mahre dan a few o' dese tribes. Mahst if naht all are very 'ahstile to ooehtsiders and sahmehow me grandmahther stoehmbled acrahss soehch a tribe. See she managed to venture deeper into de amazahn wit de 'elp o' a guide. A researcher who grew oehp in de area and went to de brazilian magical school. naht gahnna even try to prahnooehnce de bloody name. Anyway wetht de 'elp o' descreet magical use and expert knowledge dey gaht into an unexplahred area o' de amazahn. Fendin sahme new never befahre seen fauna and insects species. Anyway anyway i digress again, because if you know me gran den you know dat no one makes threats o' 'er. So in true iresh fashion she bloody prahvoked dem!!!" His excitement couldn't be contained and his voice boomed again. His eyes alight with childish glee. If that child was over 200 pounds and taller then most humans. Luckily despite his excitement and enthrallment with his own story telling the big goof managed to keep up with her depositing the herbs she either handed him or helped her deposit.

Santario listened intently as Quinn started to speak. She would continue to snip the leaves off of the plant and place them in the basket as she listened to him. When he laughed, she would also chuckle because he would have right and she would have guessed Europe. As he continued, she finished up snipping the leaves from the Valerian plant. “Ooooh, the Amazon Rainforest! That must have been a really exciting place to go!” As the cold had seeped into her skin she started to wake up more and understanding his accent got easier. In return, her French accent was fading the more awake she became.

As he became animated she had gently placed a hand under the basket to help steady it subconsciously as a mother would do to an errant child. When he started speaking again she grabbed a trowel and started to gently loosen the soil around the roots of the plant. “That is really amazing Quinn! Don’t worry about getting excited! I like listening to you when you get excited, no need to calm yourself on my account.” She looked over at him and grinned before looking back to the task at hand.

Her delicate pale fingers slipped into the soil helping to continue to loosen the roots. She worked her hands around the roots and continued to loosen the soil wanting to make sure that she could properly pull up all of the roots for Professor MacTavish. As Quinn got more and more excited, she smiled trying not to giggle. Not that she would be giggling at him, but it was nice to see him in such good spirits now. Although their first meeting was great it was still hesitant… Then, of course, there was the whole situation with the ball and the infirmary. She would be happy not to speak about them much more than she had too. She knew he felt terrible and she always expressed that it wasn’t his fault.

This, however, was a complete breath of fresh air. “Oh goodness, your gran seems like a true ball of spitfire!” She giggled and gently pulled the plant up by cupping her hands under the roots and lifting it up. Gently shaking as much excess dirt as she could before putting the plant into the basket with Quinn’s help. “There we go. All we need to do is go inside and wash off the roots and set them aside to dry, and bundle up the leaves into bundles for the professor.” She would stand up and slap her hands together to remove some of the excess dirt from them even if she was covered up to the elbow in dirt.

Quinn would proceed to follow Santario easily carrying the basket of ingredients that may or may not have been slightly heavy to hold for most other students. You know those students who aren't built like a juvenile Oak tree. "Anyway as you might 'ave guessed dey ded try kellin 'er. Boeht as me grandad says, ''ell 'at no fury like a pessed ahff iresh wahman'" He nearly burst into a full on fit of laughter immediately after the statement was said. "What's even foehnnier is dat me gran managed to intimidate dem to de point dat dey were too afraid to actually try anythin. I dahn't know 'ow she ded it boeht she actually managed to cahmmunicate wit dem and earn safe passage throoehgh deir territahry. I bet she impressed de wahman. gran always said dat wahmen 'ahld de real power, dey joehst let men dink dey 'ave all de power. " His freckled face was transformed into a widening, toothy grin. Joy and excitement having fully taken over.

The young prefect could not help any of it however. How could the Half-Giant? The story was entertaining and by far one of his favorites his gran told. Not many people would believe from looking at her serene, regal appearance and demeanor. But like Santario had mentioned his Grandmother was a real spitfire in her youth. Still is she just hides it now.
"Accahrdin to 'er she actually ended oehp combing back to de vellage weeks later. She stayed wit dem fahr sahme time and was intrahduced to ahther tribes dat de vellage ahccassionally interacted wit. Because o' dese ventures she ended oehp descahverin abooeht a dahzen previooehsly oehndescahvered species o' fauna. As well as a few new spahts never befahre explahred ahr known. O' cooehrse she never tahld any o' oehs where exactly dey were boeht i'm pretty sure she 'as it wretten down sahmewhere. i'm joehst naht foolesh enooehgh to pess 'er ahff. I mean I may be able to take a 'it boeht if you've never known pain tell you 'ave been 'it by either an enraged Iresh wahman ahr a droehnk Ireshman." Quinn finally took in a long deep breathe his throat already feeling a wee sore from the neigh continuous laughter. It felt so good to laugh like this again. Hopefully Sanrio enjoyed his gran's tale.
