Jelly Wars
The Great Hall buzzed with the soft din of morning—murmured conversation, the clatter of cutlery, the occasional flutter of owl wings overhead. Nova walked inside to the smell of toast, pastries, eggs, and a breakfast Heaven.
She made a beeline for the Hufflepuff table, weaving through a few clumps of sleepy Ravenclaws and a pair of chattering third-year Gryffindors. Her eyes lit up as she spotted multiple jars, nestled between the butter and marmalade, filled with one of the best creations of Man. Grape Jelly.
Nova paused for a moment, her fingers twitching with anticipation. Nothing compared to the deep, rich purple spread—its tangy sweetness perfectly balanced, the way it soaked into the toast like a liquid jewel.
I'd marry the person who created this masterpiece, she thought as she slid into a seat, grinning like a kid on Christmas, eyes fixed on the purple goodness.
She snatched up one of the jars, holding it like a precious artifact, which it was. The glass was cool in her hand, the contents thick and glossy like stained glass syrup. She savored the satisfying pop as she twisted the lid open, causing a first-year to jump slightly at the sound.
She was already reaching for toast—hot, golden, perfectly crisp. As she spread a thick layer of grape jelly, she sighed with the contentment of someone who knew she’d just made the best decision of her day. This is it. This is joy. Real, edible joy.

Graci had been progressively waking up earlier, at some points she had to wait be be let out of the common room, so she just read a book.
Today, though, she had awoken at just the right time. And now, breakfast.
Since coming to Hogwarts she had tried many new dishes, all of them more diverse than the last. She sticked to what she usually had. Toast with peach jelly. Or jam. She'd need to learn the difference.
Graci looked around, it wasn't full, but not unbearably empty. She assumed that at breakfast the tables didn't matter so she plopped down in the nearest seat, next to a Hufflepuff girl.
Grape Jelly. She was eating... Grape jelly. A crime really. So unusually purple. Too... tart? Too something. Too disgusting.
"Are you really eating," she paused, wondering if this was going to be offensive or just a small funny argument for the sake of fun, "Grape Jelly?"
Graci knew it wasn't as bad as she made it sound, but she just so happened to prefer peach over grape. In all honesty she thought if there were mango jam it would be even better, but she had yet to find it.
Who woulda thought. The one person I sit next to is a grape jelly enthusiast. You can almost tell it by her face. But never mind, peach will always be better in my mind.

Jelly Wars
Nova was halfway through her first slice of toast and about to reach for another when she heard the most incredulous voice go, "Are you really eating Grape Jelly?"
Her head slowly turned around to see who this villain was, acting as if Grape Jelly wasn't a treasure to be cherished. She saw a girl in Gryffindor robes with a questioning look on her face, and a small grin appeared on her face as she replied.
"Why wouldn't I be eating this national treasure sent by the Breakfast Gods? It is, simply put, a blessing in a jar! What's not to like?"
She put on a scandalized expression as if she couldn't believe she was being judged for her impeccable taste in breakfast meals. She held up her half-eaten toast which was glistening under the Great Hall's enchanted ceiling, narrowly avoiding smudging some of the Jelly on the girl's face.
"The Breakfast Gods sent this creation to us to show us how powerful they are. It'd be wasteful not to eat it and give it the appreciation it deserves!" She declared before bringing it back down.
Nova dropped the toast to her plate and grabbed another slice, immediately starting to spread more of the jelly onto it. How could someone not enjoy it? Does she like eating boring things for breakfast?

Graci regretted starting the jelly argument. Almost, not quite because she loved a good debate. At least when she knew she was right.
"Well, I mean, grape jelly isn't bad, I just prefer peach. Scratch the first part, I know know how you choke it down. And I mean, even if I did like grape jelly I wouldn't call it a 'gift from the gods'."
Graci smiled, hoping the other girl didn't take it too seriously, otherwise she would have quite the tizzy. I should've thought about this before I started saying how atrocious her favourite jelly was.
In her mind Jelly wasn't a huge issue to discuss, but grape couldn't be mentioned in her presence without her saying something about it. Even just in jest. It never ended well for either of them, usually her and Zoe.
Graci looked to see if there was any peach jelly, but she only saw strawberry so she opted for that instead. Stupid Hogwarts. Why could they have grape and strawberry jelly but no peach? It was wholly unreasonable.
She sighed in resignation. School can't be perfect I suppose. Stupid of me for thinking so, I guess. Why couldn't Hogwarts be better though? It was a magical school, after all.

Jelly Wars
Nova gave the girl a playful glare, eyes narrowed with suspicion as she spread an unreasonably thick layer of grape jelly on her next slice. Yes, she knew her mother would be horrified and probably a bit furious at the unhealthiness of it all, but she didn't care.
The betrayal settled over the table like the tension before a pop quiz—quiet, heavy, and full of judgment. “I see. So we’re starting our day with blasphemy. 'Not a gift from the Gods'? You've got to be kidding.” She responded in a matter-of-fact tone.
She took a bite from her second slice of toast, crumbs falling onto her plate.“You know,” she said after swallowing, “People always talk about love at first sight. But they never talk about toast at first bite. Which, frankly, is more consistent and way less complicated.”
She took another slow, meaningful bite, staring into the girl's eyes as if to say watch and learn. "Peach isn't bad, just a bit boring, y'know? A bit bland for a magical school. Or anything, really."
“Honestly, if we’re going to be judging breakfast spreads this early, we might as well get the House Cup involved. Let the Sorting Hat decide the superior jelly.” She joked, hoping the girl wouldn't take offense. Nova wasn't really offended, of course not. But it was fun to have a debate at 8:00 AM in the morning. Especially on a topic so delicious.

Graci chuckled at the girl and her use of 'blasphemy'. Not in a rude way, but an amused and happy way, as most laughs are.
"Toast is, indeed, much less complicated than love. Give me toast over people almost every day. But I'll do you one better, toast with people. So long as they like the same jelly, of course."
Graci tilted her head to the side, looking at the other girl like she was crazy. She said peach was BORING. "...I'm just not going to say anything about that. Insulting my jelly of choice is like insulting me."
The only give away that she wasn't very upset was the smile on her face. Stupid facial expressions. Always giving me a way. I'm gonna need to fix that eventually.
"I dunno if we should let the sorting hat decide. It might try to go into the jelly like it does the students minds and get all sticky for the next first years. I think jelly is good, but not in my hair."
Graci dejectedly took a bite of her toast with strawberry jelly. It didn't taste bad, per se, but it wasn't her favorite. It wasn't PEACH. Who knew I could be so mellow dramatic at eight in the morning. Me. I knew. I am the drama. Well... sometimes.
"I'm Graci, by the way. Now you know who to stay away from because if their supposedly 'bad' taste in jelly."

Jelly Wars
Nova's expression turned to a faux frown at the girl's words. "I'd rather keep my people and jelly separate. Those two do not mix." She responded with a playful tone, acting disgusted as if even the thought was despicable. It probably was, but whatever. Irrelevant.
She leaned in slightly, lowering her voice like she was about to share a secret. “You know, I’ve heard that people who don’t like grape jelly are more prone to stepping on LEGO bricks. It’s a fact. I read it… somewhere.”
"And insulting your jelly is not the same as insulting you,” she said with mock offense. “Unless, of course, you are the jelly. In which case, I have many more concerns.” She continued, glancing at the girl to see if she really was upset. A sense of relief filled her when she saw her smile and she gave a grin back.
Nova nodded thoughtfully at the girl's opinion before she snickered softly. "Honestly, I think I'd look great with grape purple hair," she responded, tugging gently on a curl. "Or any color really. Maybe I'll dye my whole head that shade. Or blue. Someday."
She hummed in slight approval and a bit gloatingly as the girl chose strawberry instead of the peach jelly she was so passionately defending. "My name's Nova. Nova Astron, possibly the queen of jelly."

Graci laughed at the girls words again. "To each their own, I mean, jelly and people could go either way, but it would probably end up quite sticky. And I'm pretty sure that just because I don't like grape jelly doesn't mean I'm going to step on Legos. That doesn't make any sense at all, scientifically speaking. But then again, we are literally at a magic school where all we do is break scientific laws."
Graci continued to eat her toast with strawberry jelly, wishing it was peach. Kinda. She didn't mind strawberry in the slightest.
"I mean, it's not the colour of the jelly, but the stickiness. I think you could rock any shade of hair, but maybe not sticky grape jelly? That would be awfully hard to get out."
She was enjoying their little argument about jelly. It was harmless and that's what made it fun. Now, if they were throwing hands and yelling about it that might be over the top, but this funny banter was healing to her soul. She hadn't done anything of the sort since London. The jelly was just too hard to resist.
"It's wonderful to meet you, Nova, Nova Astron, possibly queen of jelly. I do hope you would lighten my sentence for this supposed blasphemy, I was not aware you were the monarch."
