it’s 1 am and I should be asleep, but I have to say this. Same for me! I was going to apply for Prefect and Mentor, but I can’t because of the Discord. Mentoring people was really what kept me on here for so long, but now I’m kinda just frustrated with a lot of things on here. Especially with the Discord part. I’m worried that the sports teams may eventually have a Discord requirement and that’s going to be terrible for a lot of people if that happens. If Disc becomes a requirement for things like that, I’ll probably just disappear. I’ve been way too stressed about all the changes and everything. That’s one reason why I haven’t been active much the past couple of days. There are also a couple more things frustrating me on here, but I’m not really comfortable sharing them publicly.
Aww sweetie! I'm always here if you need an ear! <3

Communication I can kind of understand. But one thing that baffles me is why not use Owls...? Owls has always worked for me much better than I think Discord ever would. Then again, people have their preferences and that's okay. But depending on who you ask, you're limiting yourself to who can access it and thus their efforts to contribute more to the site in that way. Mentors and staff being examples.

The recent changes are still something I'm getting used to. I reckon it'll be a slow burn to come around eventually, but if people are happy about these changes then I'm happy for them. For me, this isn't the style of RP'ing that I'm used to. Some of the process(es) here are a little foreign to me in some ways still.
That is because owls do not permit as fast and instant communication in comparison to discord. Easier management with no need to login to check along with the fact that when there's a dozen or so staff members discussing a topic its easier to cross reference old conversations or precedents. Much harder to do with owls and they would sadly get overcrowded into a mess within the very first day. A 100 or so texts within an hour or two is the lower average of texts one could up with when working on a site team. It'd be too hard having to read 100 owls and crowd up necessary paper trail otherwise.

But if you change your mind about discord someday, the staff would probably love to have you.
I'm just used to having owls flood my inbox but I can see why people prefer Discord.

As for personally using Discord myself, that will probably never be likely. Too many bad experiences with it has left me pretty much negligent of the platform and I've been heavily reluctant to return. So even if it means sacrificing any and all chances of helping out the site through staff positions etc, I won't be going back to it.
My browser isn't up to date, and it ain't gonna be, because I like it, even if that means I can't use social media. I don't even like social media anyway.
I don't use social media either. From what I've seen it do to people close to me, I never want it. I've watched my friends go from good people, to someone I barely even recognize because of social media. I also have no intention of ever returning to Discord for a variety of reasons I'm not willing to share. Social media is a dangerous place, so I will probably never have it. I agree with Em. If not having Discord means not being on staff, then so be it. I'll just try and do my best to help people even though I can't even be on the staff.

Be the change you wish to see
in the world.

And that, dear Avery, sums up my experiences with Discord in the past. But there's a lot more to it than seeing friends argue like cats and dogs over what should've been a nice space, though I'll not delve further into that here publicly...

We're still here, floating around helping others we can. You don't need an official title on your profile or staff position to be a good person and continue being sweet and lovely ^^
