Did River regret showing up at this point? Yes, yes she did. Now though, it seemed like an easy exit was not present, and she'd need to try her best to find a way to get herself out of this stupid mess that had escalated out of seemingly nowhere. One second, everything was fine, and in the next, people were screaming, the room was on fire, two giants were committing a kidnapping, and people were apparently fainting. River steadied herself on a nearby chair as she nearly stumbled over someone on the ground. They seemed to have people helping out though.
Right... Help out or get away? Her mind was telling her to simply get out and get as far away from the ballroom as possible, but another part of her was saying she should stay and help out. That very small adventurous part of the ravenclaw had peaked out and decided that she could not simply run away, people were getting hurt, and there was pure chaos. She could hear familiar voices all around. People she actually liked, and people she'd only come across once somewhere. Still, she wanted to help get these giants back in line. Someone had called out that the doors had finally been opened, that was at least a good thing.
For now, River clumsily found her way to a place where she had an alright view of the two giants, and she steadily raised her wand and said loudly, "Rictusempra!".

Evanore had great expectations for how these events would be at Hogwarts, and this did not resemble them at all. She'd already lost one shoe, and since they had a small heel on them, she figured it would be better to just throw away the second one as well. She couldn't exactly see whether her previous throw had hit anything, but she'd try once more either way.
Supporting herself on a table, trying not to fall over by coughing, she reached down and plucked off her last remaining shoe.
In that same moment, she heard a voice call out over all the other screaming. She could barely make out what the person had said, but she managed to get something about the doors being opened. Evanore's mind raced. Was she going to stay and try to help? There didn't seem like much she could do, and she really wanted to get her poor lungs out of the smoke.
She began carefully making her way out towards the doorway of the ballroom. At that moment she got her eyes on the giants, she moved quite a bit closer and forcefully chucked her last shoe at him, aiming for the head of course.
And then, she proceeded to head for the doors, desperate for a bit of fresher air. Her chest was aching, not only from the fire issues, but also from a feeling of panic building in her body. This was not a situation she had wanted to get into while on their trip to Hogwarts School.

Without answering Phyllis, the boy that wasn't absolutely gigantically tall ran back out into whatever the heck was happening in the ballroom. Whatever. He probably had more important things to do than talk to a first year from a different school anyways. Besides, he didn't matter. Neither did the other very tall boy who she was currently glaring at for hurting her friend, whether he meant to or not. None of anything that was going on mattered. All Phyllis cared about was helping Karilyna.

With Astrid's help, she managed to push off most the rubble and dig her friend out of the mess that had once been some impressive double doors. The redhead held her breath as she examined the other girl. Luckily, Karilyna looked okay. Well, maybe not okay, but at least not like she was going to die or anything. There were no large gashes, no blood spewing out. Perhaps she'd broken a bone and she'd certainly be bruised, but with any luck she'd remain conscious.

"Merlin's pants, Kawahara, you are never allowed to knock on a door again," she muttered, hoping her friend was still in good enough condition to joke. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Astrid stand by the door with what looked like a splinter of the demolished door clutched in hand. Good. If any more madness came their way they had a first line of defense.

A voice piped up behind them right as Phyllis turned back to Karilyna. Someone had made it out--oh yeah, apparently that was a big deal considering what the one older student had shouted.

"THE DOORS ARE OPEN!" she yelled, hoping that people would hear her and at least know they had an exit if they needed it. She faced the student who had offered to take Karilyna to the Hospital wing, a girl with black hair that looked about her age. "Um, thanks. But I think we can handle it if we need to and, well, whatever's going on in there is probably way worse. So maybe you could find an adult or yell some more so people know they can get out..." For once, there wasn't a trace of criticism, sarcasm, or humor in her tone. She was actually grateful for the girl's offer to help, but they couldn't focus too many people on one problem. If need be, Karilyna was kind of a shrimp, size-wise, and even if Phyllis couldn't carry her alone, she'd have Astrid to help (despite the fact they had no bloody clue where the Hospital Wing was). Besides, if Karilyna wasn't hurt too badly, her friend might want to stay. Phyllis would want to, after all--with this much chaos she wouldn't just want to wimp out and leave for the Hospital Wing.

"It's up to you, then--stay or Hospital Wing? And by the way, if you fall over or pass out after saying stay I am carrying you outta here whether you like it or not."

Dan smirked. The table hit him square in the face. But, his thirst for vengeance was not sated. He would not stop, not until the giants at least were rotting in Azkaban. He was about to give him another, but then someone had the brilliant idea to use a Sparks charm and blind everyone in the room. And on top of that, this came after someone else had the equally brilliant idea of adding even MORE smoke, in the middle of a FIRE that was already choking the place with smoke, using the Fumos spell.
That's just @*#%;</ marvelous. Blind everyone trying to fight the giants to the point that no one could possibly hit them. These guys should have been Minecraft Youtubers with all these clear big brain plays just pouring in.

Dan decided that, despite there being no way in hell he could hit the giant with all of this nonsense, good *&$^%#@ job, guys, he was still at least going to try.
He pointed at the giant, or at least, where he thought the giant's general direction was, did the appropriate motion, and said,
"Wingardium Leviosa!", in an attempt to levitate the giant by his clothes. His hide may repel magic, but Dan thought it logical that that effect wouldn't be shared by his clothing. Maybe he would miraculously hit him through all the others' bullshit, and Jorah would be able to cave the giant's head in.
Action: Casting Wingardium Leviosa, in an attempt to levitate the giant kidnapping Jorah.

Karilyna blushed beet-red as Phyllis pretty much dragged her out of the huge pile of wood splinters. It wasn't her fault she was like half the size of everyone else her age. In response to her best friend's mutter, she whipped around. Karilyna was pretty good at pretending to be mad--a typically drama queen--but wasn't sure how she could pull this off in front of Phyllis. "Oh really? At least I don't run into blobs of smoke with Lumos," the Thunderbird countered. After waiting for three seconds for her admittedly horrible comeback to sink in, Karilyna started laughing, only to be interrupted by a huge coughing fit. Bloody sawdust.

A girl with incredibly curly hair popped out of the chaotic ballroom, asking them if they needed help. Karilyna opened her mouth to respond, as, obviously, she was the one who almost died. Phyllis responded for her, and the petite girl jumped in as soon as her friend finished. "Yeah, thanks for asking, but I think I'm fine," Karilyna smiled, hoping that the girl would go away so she could actually check out why her left wrist was dying.

And in response to Phyllis' billion questions... "Um, we are staying here, duh," Karilyna's odd mix of Japanese-American accent broke out as she spoke. "No, I'm fine. And no, I'm not fainting. C'mon, I'm a doe-eyed shrimp or whatever you call me now but I'm not a wimp. Dude, I don't faint. I've never fainted," Karilyna truly hadn't fainted before, but this honestly felt like the closest she had ever come to it. Her head was spinning, her eyesight moving in and out of focus just slightly, and her left wrist seemed seriously hurt--probably at least strained--but she refused to give in. "I am not going to the Hospital Wing."

She might be hurt, but she could put her foot down on that much. "C'mon, guys, I'm going in," Karilyna charged into the ballroom without a second glance. After all, last time she had hesitated, she had gotten obliterated by two big boys. All she could hope was that her friends would follow. Once she reentered the room, she stuck to the side wall. She didn't need to get blinded just yet, especially since she was wheezing from who knew what.

Yikes... this is supposed to be a ball isn’t it? The fires quite entertaining but... shouldn’t there be dancing? Jay thought, they then burst into a fit of coughing. They took their wand from the back of their pants and got up, it was a bit hard to see but soon enough they saw the fighting and the giants. Without another second to was Jay took their wand in front of them and said,

Tarantallegra!

they aimed at giant number one, but perhaps they could of accidentally cast it at someone else, but who would blame them? The place was chaos, to Jay, they didn’t think that there was a need for the running around and yelling. Just then, they heard multiple people yell out that the doors were opened- but Jay could care less. They wanted to stay in there, see what else could go wrong happen.

The smoke, the sparks, the sounds, and the running around was making Jay feel a bit odd. They were calm indeed, but their hands felt a bit fidgety. They quickly put their wand away, they knew that in chaos like this they had a thing for acting on violence. Deep inside they had a urge to take out their pocket knife...

And they did. No, they weren’t going to stab a innocent being not that anyone is truly innocent. The giants were causing trouble, people were casting spells at them, so who said Jay couldn’t stab one of them?

In a flash Jay full on went ahead and with both hands, attempted to stab into the second giants side. As soon as Jay felt something go through something they let go and quickly walked away, then stumbling under a table (that wasn’t on fire of course). They laid under the table, taking slow and deep breaths. They looked up at the nice wooden bottom of the table. That looks nice...

If Jay did stab giant #2 they wipe the slight sweat on their face and accidentally wipes a bunch of blood on them.

I’m back. Jay or Deplorable ooc. Owls open for threads.

Phyllis cocked an eyebrow at Karilyna's comeback. It was true that the redhead had gotten a bit carried away in that whole situation, but still. "Fair, but I did not get hurt," she shot back with a smirk, glad her friend was able to laugh even though it triggered a burst of coughing.

Luckily, her friend, despite having just been ran over, wanted to stay. Good. Phyllis wanted to stay too. This was not her school, the people inside weren't her friends. But she didn't have an excuse for leaving kids to die. Even if she wasn't a tremendous help, she wanted to be present, to be available if there was suddenly some way for her to be useful. "That's what I figured. And I call you Miss Doe-Eyes, by the way, although I'm going to have to think about changing it to something about doors." She would've christened Karilyna right then and there, but couldn't come up with any good door nicknames on the spot. Door Girl? Thee Who Almost Died From a Falling Door? Nope, both terrible.

Then Karilyna did the thing every doctor recommended after being crushed by a door and two larger human beings--jump straight up and run towards the nearest danger. How exactly was Phyllis running towards the skirmish earlier worse? But friends were supposed to stick together. Snatching up two longer, sharp pieces of the splintered double doors, the redhead followed.

"At least take this," she said once she joined the raven-haired Thunderbird, shoving the splinter into Karilyna's hands. Squinting through the smoke, Phyllis tried to figure out what was happening. Wait to the side, assess the situation, then attack--it seemed like a plan. Astrid could follow them if she wanted (and chances were she would as the group had a habit of chasing each other into madness). Man, if Hogwarts balls were this chaotic and British people were supposed to be all proper and stuff, what was an American one like? That... was something she did not want to imagine.

Mari had been having a lovely time at the ball, bonding with her new friend, and even being more bold than she had been used to, when everything collapsed around her. Flames erupted, screams surrounded her...All she could focus on was George's voice around her. "Nobody panic!"

Panic? Of course she would panic. Mari told herself, at the Blossom Ball, that she would fight back, but now all she wanted to do was cry and hide. She couldn't handle this, she couldn't deal...the memories came rushing back as she heard the extinguishing charms being yelled. She freaked out at the edge of the flames, then was grabbed by George, pulled away from the flame, then...abandoned.

When he shouted "stay here," Mari cowered, but obeyed. Hadn't she told herself that the next time it happened, she would fight back? But she couldn't gather who the enemy was here, who she was supposed to be fighting. The only way to not go back on her promise, she reckoned, was to just care about making it out alive. If someone came directly toward her, she would fight. Otherwise, she would listen to George, brave George, who made her laugh and broke the anger she hoped would not return.

While all the chaos erupted around her, Mari just stayed and watched, hoping that someone would help her escape this horrific nightmare. All she needed was to make it out alive.

Faintly, Mari whimpered, "George?"

LAMIKS PERSPECTIVE
-----------------------

Reducio
INTERACTS WITH: @Jake Morris @George Henry @Aideen Ryan

MENTIONS: @Saskia Nicholson @James McMurtrie

As much as he wanted to help James with the fire, Lamik had other priorities. The boy needed to find Jake and get both him and Aideen out of the ballroom. Unfortunately, a blinding light shone suddenly, obsuring his vision even more then the smoke around him. It was unfortunate for the others, of course- Lamik didnt need his eyes.

ABILITY USED: BLINDVISION

Though the smoke filled his lungs and the sparks blinded him, the boy had no trouble navigating. As Jake held onto him and some random boy that brought him over whispered words in his ear, Lamik figured out where the exit was. "Youre going to be ok, Jake." Lamik said in between coughs. Though the girl whose arm he was holding still seemed to be unresponsive and the boy was breaking down, the young gryffindor started stumbling towards the exit, trying to pull the two with him. If saskia wasnt outside, he would go back for her.

NOVUS'S PERSPECTIVE
-----------------------------------------

INTERACTS WITH: @Astrea Soleil Neptune

"Of course I had to walk up to a girl who was brave."
Novus said with mock frustration. As the smoke clouded his vision and stung his eyes, the boy heard Astrea asking about windows. After a few moments of silence, he responded. "I... dont think that would help us. If I remember correctly the windows here are a bit... unaccesible. Very big, sure, but also pretty high up and probably impossible to open." Novus looked around, trying to discern any sort of shape- human or otherwise. "If we really want to help though, the best idea would be going towards the fire. Higher chance of finding injured people there."

Oliver rose, dazed and confused. There was so much yelling and flashes of light, smoke surrounded him. He rubbed his head and tried to remember what even sent him onto the floor. Why did nobody help him? After struggling with his nausea, Oliver leaned over and released a mouthful of vomit. He would not notice the girl under him at first, Dinara, and ended up throwing up a few inches next to her face. Only mid export would he notice and pull away. He went red and got off her quickly, all whilst getting sick. Oliver would crawl away into the mist to escape Dinara and his embarrassment.

Standing up slowly, Oliver gave up on what had happened to him and tried to get a grip on the current situation. He took a step forward and the dizziness set back in. He closed his eyes, relaxing and breathing in deep.
Focus, Oliver!
Eyes opened, Oliver scanned the area. Big people, dangerous. Smoke, no brightness from fire so probably magically produced. People running. Lots are announcing doors are opened. Some are fighting the big people. Oliver stroked his round chin.
What the hell is going on I thought this was a ball.
Then his eyes widened. Through the smoke he could make out a beautiful figure of what could only be Dymphna. But through her wedged a blade. Oliver's eyes immediately watered as he absorbed what he was witnessing. He wanted to scream, so much shock was setting in at once. He was still so confused.

Save her.

Oliver broke into a run. A 0 Speed stat point run.
Oliver could see people walking faster than him, he was moving at snails pace. In a few meters he was already panting like a dog, his chest painfully pumping in oxygen. Leaning forward, Oliver raised his arms back behind him. He had seen the ninja do this in favourite comic, and they were always fast. He understand only as he did it, he was so much more ergonomic! Oliver sprinted with arms angled back through the hall. His Speed stat actually was right at the border of 1, only a few decimals away from leveling up.
Oliver at this very moment could hear his theme song playing in his mind.

Racing all the way across the room, Oliver dodged flying objects and shoved aside students trying to run for the door. Although it was safest to escape, Oliver had to rescue Dymphna. What had happened to her looked like she'd die in a matter of moments. His eyes were pouring as he thought about it more. Anyone but Dymphna. Preferably Reid, but anyone at all besides her!

As he neared, Oliver skidded to a stop, although there wasn't much momentum to skid on. He immediately drew his wand and shielded Dymphna from the direction of the giants, standing before the table also shielding her. With a wide leg stance and a bellow that would erupt through the hall, Oliver ripped forth a jinx with all of his might.
"FLIPENDO DUO!!!"

(Unless Oliver failed.)
Oliver's hair fanned back as the force of the spell blasted form the end of his wand. This was unlike any other spell cast he had ever performed. This wasn't some dark energy festering inside him, nor some built up sadness from years of bullying. This spell was charged with only one thing. Love. Something he had never used to architect a spell before. Something that made his magic repository roar like a furnace.
The spell was aimed at whichever giant was closest.

Oliver spun around right after. Dymphna was already being tended to by other girls. He pulled off his blazer and put it on Dymphna like a blanket, around her shoulders. She would surely be feeling tremendously cold as she lost blood, which would only worsen her state. "Stay awake whatever you do, Dymphna!" Oliver yelled to her as he leaned down by her. He was going through volumes of comic book information as he looked at her state. His eyes were clearly streaming tears. He held onto Dymphna's ankles, ignoring how nice and soft they felt. Oliver realised immediately though that he was too weak to carry her. Looking at the other girls, they probably were too. "Leviosa, I'll use leviosa on her dress!" Oliver announced before standing.

"Wingardium Leviosa!" Oliver swished and flicked his wand, casting at Dymphna's light green dress. He stood focused with his hawaiian shirt, brows furrowed and cheeks smothered in tears. He raised her elbow high so her abdomen and back could be easily reached. Oliver was now focused on Dymphna and would not say anything more as he trained all his mental energy on lifting his crush. His crush for three whole years.

As the smoke began to clear and the fresh air flooded the room Adlai felt the world spun around her. The clothes she held around her nose and mouth fell back onto her shoulder and she felt her legs go out from under her as splitting pain crawled across her forehead.

“The exit...” she murmured as she forced herself up and turned to Leah. “The exit must be open now, this is our chance.” She told her, her voice still frail and horse; her eyes stained red and swollen from her tears.

As dizzy as she felt she wanted out of this burning inferno. She’d be wise enough to never attend another ball at this school but knew deep down she probably wouldn’t miss one for the world if they were as good as this one was in the beginning.

She held onto Leah’s hand to balance herself as she pointed to the exit. “We need to hurry.” She whispered and took a step forward to the doors as the smoke rushed out in long streaming clouds. The strong voices of intelligent students who were doing their best to put out the flames could now be heard over the screaming students who scrambled to get out of the ballroom while they could.
