Something Else is Brewing Here...

Harvey's quill was scratching furiously against the parchment as he took detailed notes on Professor Sauber's lecture. The school year was drawing to a close and while many of the students were starting to get restless for summer break, Harvey only became more focused. He simply had to leave his first year at Hogwarts with straight O's in all his courses. Sure, first years weren't required to take end of year exams, but if he could nail the last part of the potions curriculum the boy would be able to report to his grandfather and stand a chance to enjoy his summer.
Pressure from his family did not make Harvey exceptional. Many students felt that same duress throughout the school year, but while some did not succumb to it, he very much did. Harvey's grandfather ruled their home with an iron fist. When the boy began his magical schooling it was made very clear that he was to succeed with flying colors and if he wished to stay at Hogwarts for the summer, Harvey had better report top marks. So, when Professor Sauber began his discussion on the Muffling Draught and the Dogbreath potion he made sure to note every detail.
Fortunately today was just the lecture part of this particular series. The actual brewing of these potions would come soon, but proper note taking had been Harvey's key to success all year and he wasn't going to stop now. So, when the lecture came to an end he laid them all out before him to make sure they were organized and filed away into his folder accordingly. This was the last class of the day before the student had a free slot prior to dinner, so Harvey was in no rush and decided to take a while longer to study.
Apparently he was not the only one that yearned for extra time to study as more students filed into the room and much to his annoyance one of the girls sat down right next to him. Harvey rolled his eyes with a bit of a huff. While this was annoying he was determined to stay focused on his work, but soon enough this intruder opened their own work and Harvey got an eyeful her journal. Her notes were an absolute mess! Or so he thought anyways as the margins of her papers were completely covered in little doodles. He had seen this before with the class clowns, jocks and so called "artists". All the opportunity to learn something and they waste away lectures drawing little nothings instead of paying attention! Why couldn't people take things more seriously?
With another huff Harvey would lay his arm between his work and hers and gave her things a very rude shove with his forearm. "Mind your space please." His tone was just a impolite as his gesture. He didn't even have the decency to look up from his work to speak to her directly.

Potions class was Kyra’s favorite time of the day, besides when it came to practice for the Broom Racing team. She always dreamed of being a part of Slytherin’s team, even if she wasn’t the greatest at the sport. What she was good at, though, was crafting potions, and creating things in general. This is why the young girl was drawing a plant, while waiting for the class to begin. It was a way for Kyra to express herself. She didn’t care much for flowers or plants, but this one was an ingredient in the potion that killed her parents. The Venomous Tentacula.
Students were beginning to pile into the room, scurrying to the seats closest to their friends, while Kyra was sitting up front with no care in the world. She didn’t care much about the drama that came with being friends with others, even though Kyra did have a few people she cared about at Hogwarts. But none of which were in the class with her, so that would explain why the young girl sat alone.
Before class would begin, another student came over and sat down next to Kyra. She only glanced over for a second to see who it was, but she quickly put her attention back on the drawing in front of her for the time being. When everything seemed fine and dandy, the young boy pushed some of Kyra’s belongings closer to her in a rude manner. She jerked her head in their direction with a disgusted look. ”Uhm, rude! Who do you think you are?” She snapped. Kyra normally wasn’t so blunt and conceded, but now was better than any other to be so.
Kyra had no idea who this boy was or what he was thinking to just come up and touch stuff that didn’t belong to him. She had some nerve to just grab her things and walk off, but second chances were given more often than not, so she would do just that. Whether or not Harvey would retaliate, Kyra would continue to stand their ground and make sure he would know that she was not just someone you mess with.

Venomous Tentacula. Harvey had blown off the drawing as a meaningless doodle, but unknowingly to him, there was great meaning to Kyra. The plant was only a part of the concoction that brought her parents end, yet what better visual representation of death was there? Tentacles that would trap its prey, spikes to puncture the flesh, biting flowers to inject venom that would slowly bring about your doom. Her drawing was in part an expression of tragedy, but as the pair sat down together, perhaps it’s constricting nature represented something else entirely.
It was a shame that Harvey let the poorer part of his nature get the best of him. Like Kyra, he too often found that maintaining friendship came with way too much fuss. Always trying to please. Always trying to compromise. You had to fulfill the needs of one all the while trying to make sure your own were heard. He mostly thrived as a solitary creature and perhaps that was something to two could have bonded over. It was difficult to find others that would not look at that mentality as weird or antisocial. Not that he didn’t have a few people he cared for, but he felt himself quite different from most here at Hogwarts. However, his rush to judgment would spoil such potential.
Deep down Harvey knew his action and tone would most likely result in retaliation. A part of him hoped for it and when it came he was more than happy to meet it. Who do you think you are? A question that fanned the flame of his own self importance. The boy was a dedicated student. He was going to graduate Hogwarts with flying colors and from there the world would be his oyster as he made a name for himself in the magical community. Those that sat around doodling would work for him one day!
“I…” Harvey began with a tone nearly as venomous as the plant she drew, but when he lifted his gaze to meet hers the words slipped. What was that? There was something about her dark stare that gave him pause. It was like she had an aura about her that he had never experienced before. Most likely some dark magic Harvey reasoned as he blinked away whatever spell she was trying to put on him. “I am trying to focus on my work.” His words were stern, but carried a softer note. “This is important information we are being given.” He tapped his book and notes to emphasize his point. “And your doodles are encroaching on my work space. Don’t you want to learn this? Potion brewing is a vital skill for any witch or wizard.” Harvey concluded as he stared with his own dark gaze.
