"Drink it in
Drink it up
Till you've drowned
In the light
In the sound
But who can name the face?"
Alexx's spell was successful- for better and for worse. Unfortunately, Alexx hadn't paid enough attention to things like bandaging spells. She only knew, somewhat, how to duel. Deep down, she knew that Incendio was her best spell, but adding fire to fire could turn detrimental. Luckily for Alexx, though, she also knew how to extenguish that fire.

Fortunately for Alexx, she would not see Reid and Hugh being the buff heroes that they were, otherwise, her focus would have totally side-tracked.

Right now, her thought process was simple: Where was Simon (@Max Avery), and was he okay? She could either make an attempt to find him, or ensure that he would stay safe by fighting off this beast. Alexx was no hero; she was no Gryffindor. She was placed in Slytherin for a reason. She looked out for her best interests. Me and mine.

Well, Simon was hers, then.

"In-" She started to shout, but then had a change of heart. That would be counter-productive. Instead, she turned her aim to a nearby fire. "Extinguo!" She shouted, eyebrows furrowing. She didn't even know if the asshole was still there; she couldn't see.

By now, her eyes were past watery and it was hard to breathe. Still, she went on, knowing that she was needed. Where had the mystery girl (@Xailah Alptraum) gone? "Hey, are you okay?" She called out to her previous partner in combat, hoping to receive a response.

That was when Alexx heard some far-off voice announce that something needed to be done about the smoke. But what? What could be done? Was there some magical smoke-ridding spell that she didn't know about?

"BREAK THE WINDOWS," Alexx hollered in response, not knowing if someone was already on that. "LET THE SMOKE OUT BY BREAKING THE WINDOWS!" She didn't really know if that would work, but she thought that it might.

Alexx began to move forward, ready to help, when she stumbled over something- or someone? She looked down, not quite sure who was there. "Oh- sorry, are you alright?" Upon closer look, she would notice her friend, Dymphna, bleeding out onto the floor. Horror struck over her face. "Oh my-!" She shouted, almost in tears. "She's bleeding..." Alexx bent down, shaking the body that she had tripped over. She knew better than to mess with the wound- she wasn't a doctor, and tampering with this kind of stuff could potentially make it worse. It was better to leave it in.

Now that she was thinking about it, why on earth had all the chaperones left? Who wall was here? She had seen MacTavish out of the corner of her eye, and she believed she saw Galim- why had all of the other professors left? Were they to blame? Was this a setup?

She had heard of the muggle world- mass suicides. Brainwashing. Was that what this was? Merlin, did Alexx have an article for the world to read if she made it out of here alive! May as well report it to the Daily Prophet too, and get her career started early. First-hand experience, tripping over a potentially dead girl. That would be an article that shaped a generation; her generation. They were all drinking kool-aid for now, though. She could only hope that Simon and Kovacs weren't currently impaled as well.

More importantly than this, Alexx didn't know who was around her. Who was with Dymphna before this happened? Did they see who- Alexx would kill whoever had wounded the Ravenclaw, she would swear on it. This had gone far enough, and someone needed to put an end to it. And now what? People were getting stabbed? In a world where you can kill someone with the flick of your wrist, they resorted to stabbing like cave-people? How pathetic.

Thankfully, Thora came to the rescue and attempted to take care of Dymphna. Alexx let out a sigh of relief.

Around this time was when she heard the call of the boy of the night. Mister Simon Belanger himself, who was now doing... Merlin knows what. "Simon?" She echoed back, eyebrows furrowing. She stumbled forward a bit, vision still impaired from her own spell, which she refused to counter. "I'm here, where are you?" Alexx decided that he had to of been close, given that she hadn't traveled too far from him.

"Lumos!" She cast, attempting to see him better through the fog. It didn't help much, but it was something. His scream was enough to guide her forward, no longer needing he light, which she extinguished just as quickly, with a soft "Nox!"

"Simon! Are you alright?" She called out as she got closer to him, not noticing his opponent that was still (assumably) lingering. She could only hope that he was okay, or she would kill anyone and everyone who made him otherwise.
"Masquerade!
Grinning yellows
Spinning reds...
Masquerade!
Take your fill—let the spectacle astound you!"

Thora listened intently as Ruthie instructed her. Where to put her hand, how to stop Dymphna's bleeding. Although Ruthie clearly gave her the decision to leave or stay, Thora knew she needed to stay here. The Ravenclaw stated a valid point, though. They needed to wait for the smoke to clear out to get Dymphna to the Hospital Wing, as she was clearly already badly hurt.

As she motioned for Ruthie to move her hand, Thora placed both of her rather small hands on top of Dymphna's abdomen, applying pressure. She could feel the warm, sticky blood seeping onto her hands. It would typically have made the girl a little queasy, due to the amount of blood, but the adrenaline flowing through her eliminated any of those discomforts. A blonde girl tripped over the trio, whom Thora immediately recognized as Alexx, a rather scary but good Chaser and former Slytherin Prefect. She seemed to have a bit of a surprise over Dymphna, but thankfully, she left, leaving Ruthie and Thora to take care of the situation

"RUTHIE! THORA! IT'S ME, GRIS!" Making sure that she kept pressure on the hurt third year, Thora slowly turned her head towards whoever was alerting herself and Ruthie. Who was Gris? The Slytherin panicked as a quick brain freeze possessed her brain. Why couldn't she remember anything? The second year gave a quick sigh of relief as everything came rushing back. Gris was Griseldis, a Gryffindor prefect she had met in one of Professor Bercegeay's errands. She couldn't be too sure, but Griseldis seemed pretty nice.

"Hi Griseldis," Thora managed to slip in a word before the prefect went off on a long rant. She easily stepped into her role and exuded a sense of confidence Thora certainly didn't feel. In normal circumstances, Thora might've even felt embarrassed at not stepping forward, but this was nothing close to normal. In fact, it was as close to strange as she had ever seen.

Taking a deep breath, Thora waited for Griseldis to finish about Ruthie's friend who had been knocked off his broom--presumably during their Quidditch game. "Okay, so if Gris can guide us over to the exit, I'll stay with you guys. Like you said, it'll definitely be easier if I help you maneuver her over to the exit," Thora said mostly to Ruthie. After all, she seemed pretty close to Dymphna, so Thora would assume she could make the final call. "What do you think, Ruthie?"

Astrea's question went unanswered as a sudden commotion rang loud and jarring through the ballroom, her steady composure of disinterest broken as her eyes flickered to her right. Screams of terror ran clean through the large room, and the soft hiss of an opened bottle was drowned out by the increasingly horrified shrieks.

Within moments, fire blazed through, burning hot and destructive as it fed hungrily upon the vodka sprayed everywhere, and a flash of red sparks caused her vision to go white momentarily before clearing up. Blinking her eyes frantically in an attempt to stop the stall in her vision- what was happening, god, everything was happening. She was not prepared for this.- Astrea pushed the palms of both hands into her eyes and pressed down before opening them back up. The ballroom seemed fuzzy as her vision started to rush back, items coming up as negative images before gradually turning positive again in an infuriatingly slow manner. Just as everything came back together, a wave of warm smoke crashed into the heir's vision, slowly starting to obscure it. Darn.

"My name is Novus. There seems to be a fire going on. We either run or help put it out. Your choice."

The Neptune-Chou heir kept a careful look toward 'Novus' as he introduced himself, nodding thoughtfully as an option was presented. She peered through the blackness as thick tendrils of smoke swirled maliciously around, spotting the looming figures of half-giants towering over everyone, lit in orange light and attempting to claim various students for their own. Everything ran too quick around her and she wasn't prepared in the slightest, but at least she had the sense to carry her wand. Astrea found her eyes suddenly starting to sting as she drew out the spiralled instrument out of a hidden pocket of her skirt. "Astrea. We need to help, come on."

With that, Astrea was stalking forward, casting a quick "Lumos" to find her way. It didn't help much, the smoke too thick and black, but at least she could see her hand for the quick moment. She could hear someone yell out to break the windows to let the smoke out, break the windows.

"Where are the windows? I cannot see them. Can't see anything at all." She turned back to ask Novus, wand coming up to illuminate her face.

Jake's eyes were stinging, and not just from crying. Smoke had grown in the ballroom as the fire raged on. Jake held onto George and felt a shove on his shoulder and heard a voice call his name and tell him to get out but he was too scared to know who it was.

Smoke was in his eyes - he could barely see. He stumbled, his legs barely moving, ready to tumble onto the ground - only his friend George - brave George, the hero - kept him going. He remembered his name being called before - he remembered Lamik saying 'get over here'. It was a thought Jake clung to. He had to listen. But he couldn't even see him. "I g-gotta...g-get to...L-L-Lamik,"he managed to get out though the tears but he didn't know if Georgie even heard him.

Smoke was in his lungs. He coughed and sputtered. He heard yelling and noises...he didn't know what was going on. It was just chaos and noise and confusion. He didn't know how far they'd walked. How far they were from the exit. He wanted his Mum and Dad. He was in a terrified daze until he saw somebody's robes, and heard a familiar voice. He looked up, his eyes swimming with tears, as he saw a very familiar face.

"Lamik...!" Jake cried. George had said something to Lamik but Jake couldn't tell what. He couldn't hear a thing. At the familiar sight of his older fried, he had rushed forward and wrapped Lamik's waist in a death grip. The terrified Puff buried his face there and bawled. Lamik was a bigger kid and Jake was so scared he was trembling like a leaf in the wind. "L-Lamik..." he managed, but it was all he could say, his voice choked off by sobs. He cried and cried, unable to stop or think or move. They were gonna burn and die and never go home again.

What was going on? What was happening? Fumos was cast and it had him running blindly at a door, but he would have slowed himself down if he knew how close he was. But he didn't and Reid found himself slamming into a door that finally gave in. He had no control as to how to stop and the searing pain of running into a door kept him going for a few steps more. That was until he trampled over someone with the other boy. Reid fell to the floor, tripping and doubling over himself.

A loud SCRRCH came from his tuxedo as it ripped at the seams. He was tired, he had thrown himself at the door and splintered it with the other boy. The cool air greeted him and he felt some temporary relief from it. But even then, the chaos of the ballroom drew his attention. The light of the fire had given him silhouettes of people, but the screaming intensified all around. He didn't even stop to check on the boy beside him before he was heading back towards the door. If only he could hear Max over the screaming, but he was infuriated by what was transpiring.

He could go get help or he could help right now, his mind felt numb and his shoulder felt a dull ache. But his friends were in there, the people he cared about the most were in that room, leaving them for a second made him feel like he was abandoning them. Taking a deep breath, he pushed his hair back and tried to orient himself back again. The chaos that swirled seemed to intensify as he saw the giant near the doorframe with Xailah and Christopher.

He took his jacket off and pulled his wand from the pocket, he wasn't aware that magic didn't work. But even if he didn't, he wasn't going to resort to it anyway. He wedged the wand in-between his belt and charged forward. These giants had to go, this danger was too much for him to frankly stay calm around. His first year, he saw a friend nearly die and the masked man take shape into something sinister. His second year, a train had exploded and Lear admitted to it.

The rest was a foggy haze, but this school wasn't safe. He wasn't safe, he was beginning to feel it and it miffed him. Reid trusted so much in Hogwarts, so much in the faculty, and to let something like this easily slip after the incidents years before felt nothing like a personal betrayal. He trusted his mum, who wanted the best for him when it came to Hogwarts, but that felt like his mum knew a different school. How could he not be upset after all that has happened? "THE DOORS ARE OPEN, GET OUT!"

He wanted to trust the professor he's known the longest and was Hufflepuff's former Head of House, Solomon Lear. But it waned, it buckled, his trust in the Headmaster eroded against the violent waves of attacks on the student body. All of this manifested into a rage as he ran and threw himself shoulder first towards the back of the giant's legs with a vehement roar. He was simply attempting to knock him over.
Action: Announced that the door was open. Tackling the giant near Xailah and Christopher from behind, specifically the back of the knee, in an attempt to topple the half-giant.

Dale knew he was stupid, but no this stupid. One of the professors had said that magic didn't work on giants, but it was much too late before Dale even knew it his spell had backfired on him and his legs started to move about in a while motion, his arms took control of themselves and also moved around, he was dancing... But Dale didn't even know how to dance, he had no idea how his body knew how to dance but it did.

To make matters worse Lark had been knocked out... he had no idea how it happened, but one moment she was standing the next she was on the ground... he tried calling out to her but the smoke made it to hard to talk. The girl he had come with was unconscious on the floor and all Dale could do was aggressively dance next to her. Anger boiled inside of him, something very uncharacteristic of him. As he continued to dance, trying to think of a plan, someone came by and swooped up Lark and ran for the exit, Dale was relieved, he assumed he was one of her friends and a little pang of jealousy went off inside of him. But he didn't get much time to dwell on it because of some girl who slapped him across the face, his legs and arms stopped moving, but he could still feel the slap to his face... whoever this girl was she packed quite the punch. The girl told him to get it together, "I- Y-Yeah, sorry my s-spell backfired." Dale tried to explain, he would have to thank the girl later, but for now, he had a giant to exact revenge on.

He ran over to a chair, he had a plan... maybe better than his last one, he tore off one of the legs of the chair, the end of it was sharp... not too sharp but sharp enough, he looked over to the giants and ran to the one that tried to kidnap someone. He ran over and thrust his "spear" into the giant's abdominal regions with all his strength.

Karilyna certainly didn't need to wait long for her wish to be fulfilled--in a much more painful way than she had intended. One moment, the tiny Ilvermorny student stood banging on the door, her painfully small fist barely making any sound on the incredibly heavy door. The next, Karilyna was facedown on the floor, head spinning. What in Merlin's beard had just happened?

Backtracking just minutes before, Iris had tripped down the hall and presumably to wherever the bloody Hospital Wing was--hopefully, not too far--with Teiki while Karilyna stupidly hit the door several times repeatedly. What the girl had seen as brilliant no longer seemed like such a great idea.

A loud crack followed by tiny wood shards flying everywhere, into Karilyna's eyes, mouth, and sticking to her yellow dress, signaled the first of the disaster. "Bloody--" the girl screamed as she watched as a heavy door flew outwards, shattering into a million pieces before her eyes. Phyllis jumped back, just in the nick of time. Karilyna tried to do the same, hopping out of the way. Just then, a shoe hit her face. Great. A resounding crack was all that told her than something had hit her skull hard before something sticky and disgusting-tasting trampled onto her mouth. Head spinning, Karilyna bit her lip, resisting the urge to scream or cry as she fell back, back, back into a haze of the half-conscious world.

Fighting for vision and consciousness, Karilyna sat up just in time to see two huge, hulking figures in the shadows of her darkened vision. Why couldn't she see? Why couldn't she move? The young girl was trapped under a huge pile of debris and huge chunks and splinters of wood spread all across the floor. Karilyna coughed as she breathed in a mouthful of sawdust. What was this toxic air?

She couldn't get up. Great. Karilyna had this feeling that if she were to ever get up, there would be an imprint of a girl spread on the floor. At least she made a mark in this cursed school. Her head throbbed. Trying to breathe under her mask, rattling breaths shook her chest. She needed to get out of here fast. "Phyllis? Astrid?" she yelled as loud as her failing voice would let her. "Could one of you please get me out of this bloody mess?" Karilyna shouted as she fought to keep the last wisps of consciousness threatening to leave her in the world of the dead.

She thought she was ready for anything to happen. And she was very, very wrong. Staying towards the side of the door, all that came towards her were splinters from the door. Karilyna, on the other hand, was right in front of the door, and Astrid saw her being taken with the door as the two boys had pummeled into it, perhaps at full speed. She winced, but it appeared Phyllis was helping Karilyna get out of the rubble, and hopefully out of any more trouble.

"I'm sorry, Karilyna! I'm gonna stay here, 'cuz I'm pretty sure something worse is inside these doors! That being said, I do enjoy my eyesight." She noticed all the smoke and fog that was oozing out of the ballroom, and debated for a second, before helping Karilyna out of the wooden pieces that were now scattered around the ballroom. Once she pulled Karilyna out of the door with the help of Phyllis, she would apologize once again, before going next to the door. The looked down at herself, realizing that she 1) probably wasn't in the right attire for any sort of fight (but she did have some good boots, so...) and 2) she wasn't very strong. Sure, she had some muscle, but compared to the people who had just destroyed the door, she was practically a fly. She sighed, before attempting to look back into the room that had smoke and heat rushing to join its cooler counterpart.

She grimaced, before stationing herself next to the door. Well, she was trying for a surprise attack, but it wasn't likely that it would happen. No matter, maybe she could prove to be a distraction, instead. Well, she would wait here until the enemy (whatever looks evil/getting attacked) came out. Then, she would try to launch herself onto the enemy and hurt him. With? She glanced down at the floor, before grabbing one of the larger splinters. This would have to do for now.

Then, she realized that she might be waiting for some time. She rolled her eyes, before deciding that she would figure that out later. It was going to be a problem for her future or near future self, depending on how long her patience lasted.

Even with his "ability" pushing people away from him, it still took some time for Arc to navigate and reach his destination. On his way there, the scrawny boy realized that exactly four people were not affected by his presence. They were not afraid of him. That was...interesting, to say the least. And in any other circumstances he might have stopped and talked to them. But he currently did not have the time. He was already running late to the scene and he was afraid the battle would divulge into something bigger.

He turned out to be wrong, though. In a good way. Even from a few meters away, he could already tell that the fight was already settling down and the ones involved was dispersing. Did they solved it on their own? Did another Prefect come by to help? Whatever happened, it was a good thing. He might not have to do anything tonight after all. It would just be a peaceful night with no problem whatsoever.

Well. He just had to jinx it, didn’t he?

Another bigger commotion suddenly happened on the other side of the room. And Arc was not completely sure what happened next. Flames erupted, young witches and wizards running around like a crazy stampede, a cloud of smoke, and a couple other things. Thankfully, the pale boy was blocked and distracted by another boy, else he would have also been blinded by a bright red light.

Amidst it all, Arc managed to figure out the crux of the problem, though. The source of it all. Two lumbering figures could be seen over all the chaos. And they were…familiar. Were they…trying to kidnap a student? Another student?! Oh, no. No, no, no, no. The dark-haired boy had let it happened once; he would not let that happened again. Arc could feel a sense of dread and anger within him. He really wanted to just barge in there and punch the part-giants in the face. But he did not let his reason be clouded. He knew his strength and weakness. He knew he was no match in a physical fight. And well, he did not have the guts to do that. He was certainly not the bravest person in town.

The smart choice was to fight from afar. Others were already fighting the two, attacking, distracting, and even taunting. He did not need to attract them himself. He could just support his allies with magic. From his last encounter, he knew they were resistant somewhat to magic, but they were not immune to it. He could still hurt them with magic, especially spells that had physical aspect to it.
With a clunk, Arc moved his cane to his right hand and took the wand from his belt. He steadied his left hand and made the gesture of the Knockback Jinx. Down, up, and a swish.

Flipendo,” he chanted. He aimed at the part-giant that was closer to the door and wall. Even if the spell itself did not directly hurt him, then the door or wall that he would be thrown into would further damage him.

Let's tango.

For a few minutes, they kept on walking and Leah stayed relatively silent in order to stop even more smoke entering her system. Her throat was already starting to hurt and she felt suddenly tired.

The smoke seemed to thin a little, though the fog was still blinding, and Leah let out a huge breath of relief. The doors were open. They were really open.

Something was desperately wrong, however. The doors seemed to have been forced open, and two boys were still standing nearby as debris littered the area. Worst of all, there appeared to be a small girl lying under the debris.

Some people were talking and seemed to move in the fog around them, and Leah gently let go of Adlai in order to step forward and join in. Did she need any help? Maybe Leah could take her to the hospital wing.

Though her eyes were still dazzled and her vision was full of smoke, she pushed away the stinging tears to leave the ballroom and see if she could help. As she took her first step through the debris, she started speaking:

"Hello? Can you hear me? Do you need any help? We can take you to the hospital wing, if you need."
