✽Avery wasn't feeling great as her and Mikey walked up three flights of stairs in order to reach the Hospital Wing. Her head spun and dizziness overtook her. She nearly passed out once from lack of air thanks to the stairs, but thankfully Mikey was there to support her. She knew he would never let her fall.
By the time they had finally made it up the stairs, Avery was exhausted. Of course, she was already tired from her run that morning that was a complete mistake, but she was also mentally exhausted. Whatever the attack had been caused her to pretty much become dead to the world in a way. Like she was going through the motions of life without feeling. It was something that confused and scared her at the same time. What was happening to her?
Avery wanted to cry out for help as they approached the Hospital Wing, but her voice had quit working. As she tried to slow her breathing with deep breaths, more black spots began to form along the edges of her vision. All she could hope was that she could get into the Hospital Wing before she passed out. Otherwise things were going to go from bad to worse. ✽

Terrifying News and a Sea of Questions
Mikey hadn't spoken much as they climbed the stairs. Not that he wasn't going to, but because each time he glanced at Avery's face he knew that she was held together by threads. Shallow breaths. Unsteady steps. And between them there was the silence full of a quiet kind of terror, the kind that wraps around you and refuses to release.
He stayed close, an arm steady around her back, his shoulder braced against hers as they reached the third landing. When she faltered again, he reacted without thinking, adjusting his grip so she wouldn't fall. “I’ve got you,” he said. He didn’t mean it in the casual way people usually said it. He meant it like a promise.
As they took the final turn, the Hospital Wing appeared finally and relief struck him so forcibly that it was enough to give him a burst of strength. But Avery leaned more heavily now, as though even the air was becoming too heavy. Her breathing was wrong. Wrong in a way that caused his heart to begin pounding against his ribcage.
"Avery?" he said, his voice husky. Her head turned slightly, but her eyes weren't coming back to meet his. "Hey!" He braced her against him with one arm and used the other to throw the doors wide. "Help!" he yelled, louder than he intended. His voice broke, but he didn't care. "We need help!"
Avery's knees finally buckled, and Mikey caught her just in time, guiding her down to the floor as the patter of footsteps marched their way. "She couldn't breathe and got dizzy. Barely made it up the stairs." His voice now trembled, even as he attempted to maintain composure. "Please help her." His fingers stayed on the curve of her back, not letting go until someone pushed him away. Until someone could tell him what was the matter with her and that she would be ok.
