Interacting with @Noelle Carmona
On that Thursday morning, the Hogwarts’ Library is exceptionally quiet; no noise other than the common sound of pages being flips, and coughs here and there, as some might get sick since it’s starting to get chilly outside; the sky had begun to turn that ominous shade of grey, covered in even darker clouds, to the point the sun’s not visible anymore. Everything is perfect, in Roman Kingston’s opinion.

Speaking of him, he’s sitting on an empty table in the back, as far away from the others as he can. Although there aren’t many students around, and the ones present are too busy with their noses glued to the books to be considered any sort of annoyance, Roman wanted to make sure he’s left alone, as he’s been forced to interact with others for quite some time now. Wearing the school’s dark robes and his Slytherin scarf, he’s busying himself with finishing a letter to his father and reviewing what he’d learned in History of Magic earlier that day.

The letter informs his father about how things have been now that it’s been over a month since his arrival at the school. Frankly, Roman’s still a bit resentful for going back on his word and sending his old man a letter right on his second day at the school, but he can’t stop it.

Even though this is the fourth or fifth letter he’s written, the boy’s been met with nothing but silence from his father’s part. He’s dealing the situation pretty well, he thinks, telling himself that Virgil Kingston is a busy man with a busy job and busy everything, in order to spare himself from more frustration. And he keeps writing, of course, there’s no one else he can go to.

If he wrote to Hyeon, his mother, the letter would, most likely, never see the light of day, tossed aside with the other millions of fan letters the popular singer might receive on a daily basis. That’s why he keeps writing. Better to write to a slightly absent father, with an actual chance of response than a completely invisible mother, right?

Right, he agrees. Part of him tells him he’s pathetic, but, as he signs the letter, with his perfect cursive letter, Roman tells is to shut the hell up, turning his focus to his school book, ‘A History of Magic’. He opens it in chapter three, the one Professor Masoud had mentioned in today's lesson.

The boy’s quite confident in himself in this matter, nodding to some things he finds as his dark eyes scan the book, only writing down a few things in his spare parchment. So far the lessons have been a breeze. He had a basic knowledge about most things the professors were explaining, as he read some of the books on the school’s list. Despite not being a reader, Roman likes to think of himself as dedicated, so, in order to better prepare himself, he studied a bit during the summer.

Resting his head on his face, he rubs his eyes as they hurt from reading the small letters of the book. The thought of looking for his glasses pops on the back of his mind, but Roman promptly ignores it, remembering how hideous they made him look, and so, the boy keeps on reading, not caring about everything else.

The library, like most of the Ravenclaws, was Noelle's little sanctuary. Any question concerning magic could be answered in one the hundreds or thousands of books. That was great for her, because she really needed to catch up on what there was to know concerning cast spells, brewing potions, and those horrid curses people kept talking about involving the dark wizards.

She liked feeling prepared and coming to Hogwarts made her feel all but that. But at least she had friends to be around with when she felt lost. The girls in her dorm were nice enough, but she never really felt like she had a connection to any of them, they were mostly for talking to about classwork or gossip, the latter which Noelle never had been very fond of.

She was thinking of this as she entered the library, carrying her Book of Spells and Herbology book. Charms was by far her favorite class, the act of casting spells always made adrenaline run through her body like a current and she was always thirsty to learn more spells.

Noelle waved at the librarian and made her way towards a table. She had a favorite place in the library, which was a comfy armchair hidden amongst the various shelves, but today she didn't plan on staying in the library too long, so she sat near the front of the room.

A millions thoughts concerning her thoughts were running through her head so she wasn't paying as much attention to her surroundings as she usually did. Noelle didn't particularly dislike anyone yet so she wasn't worried about who she sat by...

Noelle, who was wearing a grey sweater and black pants, took out her glasses case and opened it. A pair of golden bifocals were soon fitted onto her face, in which she glanced up to see if anyone else had noticed.

Her eye immediately caught on someone, a boy, in fact. Noelle hastily ducked her head, opening her book, the one focused on spells. She placed her arm on the table and leaned her head on it so her face would be blocked from Roman.

I kind of liked that name, until I got on the bloody train, she thought to herself, her taut with apprehension. She really didn't want to be noticed by him. She considered moving away but he'd probably see her and call out her name, or worse, follow her.

Noelle scratched away at her parchment, forcing herself to not look up even to glance at the time—she was still waiting for that watch from her mother—and tried to study, but she kept worrying about him

[quote][quote]After he turns the page, still very much focused on the Salem witch trials, Roman raises his head, rubbing his eyes, then massaging his temples, hoping this hell of a headache would end soon. His nose was basically touching the page, at his point, but there’s no way he’s going to the Slytherin common room, all the way in the dungeons, just to look for his stupid glasses.

Blinking; what often helped him ignore his dizzy head, he looks around, looking for no one or anything, in particular, rubbing his hands together, trying to warm them. Come to think of it, it’s not even cold inside the Library, but the boy feels like he’s right outside, not wearing anything but a swimwear. Signs of cold, Roman tells himself, with an extra mental note to warm himself properly and to get an extra eiderdown since the dungeons get insanely cold during the night.

So cold to the point of him waking up during the so-called “witching hours”, shaking from his head to toes. It’s hard to sleep on a place like that, hence why he’s been feeling even more tired in these past few days. Roman runs his cold fingers through his hair, then rubs his hands together, trying to warm them, as if that would stop him from getting sick.

Going back to his reading, the young wizards dips the tip of his purple quill in the inkwell, writing down names of important events mentioned in the book on his parchment with lazy handwriting, unlike the rest of his notes, hand sliding against the paper with not much enthusiasm, as no matter how hard he tries to ignore it, his head keeps on complaining.

Sighing, Roman gives up, once again massaging his temples, eyes closed. Maybe I can go to the Hospital Wing and ask the nurse for some potion, he thinks, liking that idea, marking another mental note in the back of his mind. Then, as he slides back again his chair, a frown covering his face, his dark eyes find a girl sitting relatively close to him, hiding behind her Charms book, seemingly interested in what she’s studying.

Book of Spells, the boy reads and nods, understanding why her face was so close to the book like that, almost as if she’s hiding. Charms is definitely his third favorite subject, as of right now, after History of Magic and Potions, followed by Defense Against the Dark Arts. As he expected, Roman’s quite the talent for spells, unlike his half-blood partner.

Curious, he tries to take a peek at her face, crossing his arms, staring at her, wondering why she would have wanted to sit right here, considering the many free tables in the front. When he isn't able to see her properly, Roman asks, coming off a little louder and ruder than he intended, but he acts as if it's intentional, "Oi, wot spell are ya learnin', uh?"

Just when she was beginning to feel like it was safe, Roman actually spoke to her. She had finally began to relax, reading the words in the books and writing doing actual sentences instead of the word 'spell' a hundred times over. Although it had been good cursive practice—her's having needed a little work—she had grown tired of it and turned to actual studying.

Expelliarmus was a spell used often in dueling. The book explained how it made the opponents wand fly from their hand, which disabled them from casting most spells, at least for a while. Noelle considered this, taking out her own wand. Hers was made out of cherry wood and dragon heartstring, little more than twenty-five centimeters. She gripped it firmly even though she didn't plan on actually practicing the spell. She knew it was good to practice form, to prepare for classes and in case she became interested in Dueling.

At that point she had forgotten about Roman, the strange Slytherin boy keen on pestering her, of all people. Noelle didn't like him much, but she still thought about him sometimes, for reasons unknown. She did not want to think about him and would always find something else to distract herself with. Like right now, engrossed in her book. But she had gotten used to holding it up in the strange way, like she was hiding from someone.

She didn't notice when he began peeking around, trying to see her face. Noelle was rubbing her eye, thinking about taking a break, when:

"Oi, wot spell are ya learnin', uh?"

It came out so snobby and rude that she was startled more than just because it came out of nowhere. She froze, instantly knowing who was speaking to her, and assuming why.

Noelle sucked in her cheeks and tried to look casual about deepening her focus on her studies, holding up the book a little more firmly. She wrote away but the scratching sounded a little more frantic. She sighed softly and wished she were back in the Ravenclaw tower, where peace, quiet, and serenity could be found.

But she had ignored him before. Roman would probably recognize her, in addition to her dark hair. If she responded he would know her voice, of course. Noelle really wanted to just ignore him...but...

Noelle slowly lowered her book until it touched the table. She stared at the table for an awkward moment before glancing over at Roman. Epelliarmus.

[quote][quote]“Ah,” His voice comes out a bit quiet once the girl slowly puts down the book, revealing herself to be none other than Noelle. She glances at him and he doesn’t know how to read her expression. Minus the headache, the boy is not in such a disastrous mood as the other time the two had met, and so he can’t think of anything slight bitter to say at the moment. Roman wasn’t expecting to see her anytime soon since they don’t have that many lessons together, and, considering the way he’s been pestering her, he’d figured Noelle would try to avoid staying in the same place as him.

“Expelliarmus,” She said, in a tone that he couldn’t identify, but well, he’s never been the best at reading other people’s emotions. He nods, remembering reading about it in the same book she holds now. Unfortunately, he hasn’t gotten the chance to practice it yet, since some of his classmates still haven’t learned the previous spells from other lessons and the Charms professors tried to make sure everyone was on the same page before progressing.

Running his fingers through his hair once more, still not as confident and ready as usual (though he’ll never admit to that, of course), the boy lays back against the chair, not breaking the eye contact, arms crossed. “Hm, I see…” He takes a good look at her again, not being able to stop himself. It’s annoying, he concludes to the lack of control he has to things related to that Ravenclaw. No matter how many times he tries to ignore Noelle, be it her actual presence, like on the Hogwarts Express back in September, or the thoughts of her that popped in his brain during random times of the day.

Something in his head makes him wonder if she comes around the Library often. Due to their reputation of being studious and rightful, Roman had envisioned the Ravenclaw common room to the most perfect place for a time like this, when you just want to sit down next to the warmth of a firepit and study for a bit. Though he’s not that fan of reading other than poetry, he enjoys having some time for himself, flipping the pages, absorbing all the information he needs to make a better student out of himself.

Maybe he’s wrong and the eagles’ common room might be hell on Earth, hence why Noelle’s here on the back of the Library, in the quietest area, trying to study in peace. The Slytherin common room is a big factor as to why he decided to come here today, considering the place is almost always full and though not as loud as, let’s say, Gryffindors, his housemates can be very… Energetic, at times, for the lack of better word. There’s always something going on down in the dungeons, and for someone that was determined to have the most perfect report card ever, distractions only served to sour his mood and make things more complicated.

Rubbing his hands together once again, so as to keep them from freezing, Roman says, trying to be not as rude or annoying he has before, not wanting his panging head to get worse, “Fancy seein’ ya here, isn’t it?” Not giving her the chance to reply, closing his eyes for a little, he continues, “Haven’t seen that many people studyin’ when there aren’t exams ‘round the corner. I assume ya've been havin' fun with the lessons, am I wrong?”

Hm, I see... Noelle wanted to know exactly what he could see. How annoying he was? How his mouth might be too big for his own health? How she thought he might need mental health? How he messed up her brain with these snide remarks she wanted oh so badly to snap back at? How she might even really li—

Whoa, there, Noelle thought, clearing her throat at the same time. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. She wondered what that statement really meant, and if she were using it right because she was about to go thinking something she would really regret. There was nothing about this boy that she found appealing, not his appearance and definitely not his attitude. His entirety, it was hard to just share the same existence with him sometimes. He was hardly worth her time. If it weren't for the betterment of her education, Noelle wouldn't give him a second. Besides, she promised never to like anyone, ever.

To herself though. So did that even count?

Why does that matter? A promise is a promise, Noelle Flaviana Catalina Danica Carmona. She looked up at Roman. For some reason her eyes stayed on his face, instead of looking at the books on the shelves, the passing student, or just elsewhere. Noelle stared at him when he wasn't looking at her, studying his face. He looked frustrated, which she wanted to smirk at but she couldn't bring herself to. She didn't want to be on his level, and she knew exactly what that was.

She wasn't in the mood to be irritated though, maybe it was because she actually felt a little comfortable at the moment. He made her feel uneasy, yes, but it was a good kind of uneasy, which didn't make much sense. Noelle didn't think she could ever feel good around Roman.

Fancy seein’ ya here, isn’t it? he said. The corner of Noelle's lips twitched, as if she were going to smile, but she didn't. Haven’t seen that many people studyin’ when there aren’t exams ‘round the corner. I assume ya've been havin' fun with the lessons, am I wrong?

She pursed her lips and began picking at her nails. She was trying to figure him out, trying to figure out his game. He went from rude to...not as rude in less than a minute. Readying yourself before battle isn't quite that unusual, I think. She folded her hands together to stop them from shaking. Learning is the best hobby to take in order to avoid being an idi—

Noelle frowned and coughed into her fist; a strange look flickered across her face. Wow, that had came out totally wrong. She cleared her throat softly, hating how girly and tiny her sounds were. It made her feel a little weak, actually. She didn't think that was a good thing when around him. But who cares about him anyways. Not me.

She licked her lips, tasting the salt. Noelle tried to remember what her mother said about dealing with boys like him. She usually didn't listen, because boys usually ignored her or treated her like a boy, because she acted like a quiet, decent version of one. But she was dealing with an obviously mutated, deformed species of one...at least deformed in the head.

[quote][quote]“Being an idiot,” He completes, letting her know he agrees with her, opening his eyes again, resting them on Noelle’s face, watching as the girl coughs into her fist, a weird look to her, almost as if she’d stopped herself on purpose and was trying to cover it up. Roman opens a smile; it can be read as both gentle or evil, it’s up to interpretation, “No need to cover it up. Feel free to say whatever ya want, pumpkin, I won’t judge,”

There it is again. Pumpkin. The word escapes his lips so naturally that it makes him take a step back in his mind, weirded out. He's called her that before, but when he used the nicknames in the History of Magic lesson, he figured he’d never use them again, but now… It slipped out like it's a normal thing he does.

Frankly, the boy’s no idea where those nicknames came from.

He never calls anyone like this, and when he chooses to call them by one it’s usually something more degrading than ‘pumpkin’ or ‘darling’. It'd be fine for him if he'd said those words in a mocking manner, but they came off tame and, hell, even gentle. Roman hates it. And it’s a particular thing to Noelle, too, as he hasn't called Clementine anything other than her name. Worried, Roman tells himself that he's doing this to rill her up some more, avoiding their actual significance, hesitant he might not like what he'll find if he digs deeper into the meanings behind those words.

It doesn’t matter, anyway, he thinks, as he continues to say trying to keep himself from letting out any more nicknames, “People are overly sensitive these days,” He rolls his eyes, remembering the many times people have given him cold glares for saying what needed to be said in certain situations. “Ya can only say what they wanna hear. It's pathetic, really,” Roman doesn’t think she’ll agree with him, but, oh well, following his own words, he doesn’t really care. “That’s why I say whatever the fook I want whenever I feel like it, ya know. It’s better this way,” He winks at her, opening his arms as if that would help solidify his opinion, ending with a smug look, thinking he’s smart. “Honesty is key, sweetheart,”

It slips out again... What's wrong with him?! Roman asks himself, slightly frustrated for not knowing the answer to that, running his fingers through his hair, turning it into a messy bird-nest on top of his head. He looks away, arms crossed, silently hoping Noelle isn't reading too much into his choices for nicknames, so he doesn't have to explain himself if she asked.

He finished her statement, which made her glance up at him curiously. Did he understand that it was a little directed at him, or did he just generally agree...?

Roman assured her with a smile, which didn't entirely trust. No need to cover it up. Feel free to say whatever ya want, pumpkin, I won’t judge.”

There he goes again with that pumpkin. She signed mentally; he really must not like her, treating her like a little child. That made her feel a little solemn, actually, but she didn't know why, so she just focused on being annoyed. If he didn't like her, then she didn't like him, either, and she'd show it, too.

Roman talked about how people were overly sensitive, which from his perspective it might be true, but she felt like that was because he didn't care much for anyone else. It wasn't that they were overly sensitive, maybe, but because he lacked empathy for others.

Ya can only say what they wanna hear. It's pathetic, really. Noelle actually...sort of agreed with that. Even though she refrained from saying anything that she thought was true without a filter, because she empathized with others, Noelle could understand what he meant. People did just like to hear what they wanted, but not Noelle. She liked to think that she was open to anything, even if she didn't particularly like it.

That’s why I say whatever the fook I want whenever I feel like it, ya know. It’s better this way,” he said, opening his arms wide with a wink that she pursed her lips at. He surely was weird. Honesty is key, sweetheart.

There he goes again, with these...childish names he's giving her. That really upset and before she could stop herself, she slammed down her quill and snapped her body towards him, glaring at him straight in the eye. Okay, whatever is your problem? I know you don't like me at all, but can you please stop calling me baby names?

Her voice cracked at the word 'baby', but she didn't care, as long as she didn't do anything stupid like cry. You are really ignorant, which explains how come you didn't get into Ravenclaw. You're not smart enough— Noelle shut her mouth abruptly, so hard that she actually bit down on her lip. Blood rushed into her mouth, making her cover it. She winced but just stood up, gathering her stuff. Her mouth parted a little, making two red drops fall down on her paper, almost like the tears that were trying to force there way out of her eyes.

[quote][quote]The silence after the girl’s words is abrupt and crushing.

Noelle’s winces and begins to gather her belonging, while the so quiet wizard just continues to look at her, no snarky reply, no smile, no nothing, just those dead eyes, and a very serious expression. He looks down, and no one can tell if he's hurt or not, not even himself. In silent, playing with the end of his sleeve, distracted, he thinks about her words.

Ignorant, not smart enough, uh? The boy repeats the words in his head, considering how he feels about them. To be honest, Roman's been called worst (even by his own family members), but he can't say it doesn't sting a little, because the last thing he needed at the moment was to remember that he failed to follow one of the few things his old man expected of him. It's not like she's wrong, anyway, he tells himself, ignoring the frustration that grows in his chest.

Even though he has a bit of an ego, Roman doesn't like to lie to himself. He knows he can come off as ignorant in relation to some topics, just like he knows his many other flaws, but there's nothing he can do about it. That's just how he was molded, and if Noelle hated that about him, well, she wouldn't be the first or the last.

A small and unnoticeable hurt smirk appears, then he breaks into soft laughter, covering his mouth, shaking his head, not believing in her reaction. Raising his eyes, blowing his hair out of his eyes; Noelle’s lower lip is bleeding, she looks genuinely stressed and hurt, so different from his rather dismissive and cold manner.

Then Roman says, directing her one of the rarest smiles in his arsenal: a genuine one. “Oh come on now,” He forces himself to get up as well and is very thankful that he’s taller than her. Putting his hands on his wait, he shakes his head at her reaction again, “Leavin’ so soon? Let it all out, Noelle,” Making sure he doesn’t let any of those stupid nicknames out, the boy continues, “I was wonderin’ what I’d have to do to get a proper reaction outta ya.”

So, yes, that's what he decides to say, very confident in his choice, because why start an emotional conversation where he apologizes for his behavior when he could just rile her up some more and push the girl away from him instead, right?
