Adlai held onto Leah as the followed the smoke. The doors were blocked and when Adlai said that Leah would get them out, even if she’d have to smash a window. Adlai began to think about which floor they were on and how high of a drop it might be.

Adlai knew students and teachers were doing their best to put out the flames and Adlai wanted to help but all she really knows is how to make a skeleton key chain dance. She felt so weak and useless. The smoke didn’t help her with her attempts to stop crying as it stung her eyes.

She had lost her acquaintances from earlier and hoped they were alright. She hoped everyone who wasn’t at the ball was safe and weren’t having to deal with this. Where are all the teachers?- She thought. After all weren’t they supposed to be supervising them? Wasn’t the principal there? Couldn’t he put it the fire?

Her minds buzzed with questions as to why the students were the main ones handling the situation and not someone of a higher authority who is supposed to be more experienced with magic. Adlai was so very confused and overwhelmed. She needed a break from all this, and soon.
OOC: Sorry for the cruddy reply, I’m not sure what to do anymore. 😅

Everything was in mayhem. People were screaming, the smoke kept rising, and things were getting worse. The fire was almost extinguished, but their efforts weren't enough. For some reason, the fire seemed to spread, and it was getting much more difficult to see properly. At this rate, her mind was getting as hazy as the smoke itself. Things were happening all at once, and people kept running off in different directions. She could hear faint screams from the other side of the room, telling everyone that the door was open and that everyone could leave. Was that why there were so many people running? It was hard to tell.

Saskia had to stay focused. There was a situation going on, and panicking wouldn't have helped with anything. There were enough people who were already losing their rationality by mindlessly running out the door with no regard of other people. It was annoying, and it only added to the chaos that was already happening. Could they at least have some self-preservation? She understood that they wanted to leave as soon as possible, but was rushing out of the door really a smart idea? No, it was stupid. They were probably going to trample some poor students along the way. Students who didn't know what was going on. Really, it all boiled down to ignorance. They didn't know what was going on. They never expected this to happen (although with the number of times similar incidents like these happened, it was unlikely they were completely ignorant). But maybe they would know better when the next incident came around. Or not. It was remarkably easy to panic, and these kids excelled in it.

Yet in these times, she couldn't help but feel useless. She wanted to help. She wanted this mess to stop, and she wanted those giants to go down for good. What other choices did she have? She couldn't even find those damn giants in the first place, and she didn't have any other way to know where they could be. Even if she wanted to attack, or use the remaining furniture to hurl at the giants, there was a bigger chance she would end up hitting another student. One thing was for sure- there was no way she would be running away. She needed this to stop. She couldn't just stand around helplessly. She had to do something.

But first, she needed to take this mask off. It only made it harder to see, and there wasn't any point in hiding her identity at this point. After that, she had to feel through her surroundings. If she couldn't see far enough, she would have to make use of the already limited vision she had. Much easier said than done, but she didn't have much choice in the matter.

Of course, it wasn't the best idea. A viable idea in a situation like this, but not the best idea out there. She could only see faint outlines of other people, and she could have sworn she saw two tall distinct figures from one side of the room. There were other people who were too busy worrying about their own survival, but there were others who stood and fight. But what really caught the Hufflepuff's eye was the lone figure dancing amidst the smoke.

The girl blinked. He wasn't... Actually dancing, was he? Maybe he was panicking and he had a weird way of expressing it? Perhaps her eyes were playing tricks on her? It might have been the sparks toying with her vision. But no. He really was dancing. He was moving as if there was some aggressive rhythm that he had to keep up. He looked quite ridiculous, and she would have assumed he was insane for doing something this bizarre, especially in this moment. But as the girl continued walking towards him, she could see the distress written on his face. Was he trying to dance his stress away or something? It was a commendable effort, and he wasn't exactly terrible at dancing, but there were better things to do than dance around. Did he have some kind of death wish or something?

It didn't matter. She had to find a way to make him snap out of it. She had a feeling simply telling him to stop wouldn't do anything. Could she have used a spell on him? Maybe he wasn't dancing purely for the sake of it. Someone could have accidentally aimed their spell and it accidentally hit him instead. Or did he do this to himself? Still, time was running out, and she needed to do something. Fast.

Without even thinking about it, the girl walked closer towards the boy, raised her hand and smacked him across the face. "Get a hold of yourself!" she snapped, her eyes narrowed at the other boy, but not before she put a hand to her mouth. It was already a questionable idea to slap a complete stranger in the face, but she also forgot that there was still that blanket of smoke covering the area and threatening to suffocate her. The girl managed to cough a few times, but that didn't stop her from being annoyed at the boy in front of her. Whatever this was, he needed to stop.

As she hid in the corner of the doorway, a curtain of smoke glided through and lingered in the room and hall. Coughing, Nico covered her mouth until Hugh and Reid managed to crash through the wooden door. A big cloud of fresh air seemed to keep the fire alive. Nico got scared. She needed to see what was going on. Before long, something similar to a flare got shot up in the ballroom, blinding her ice blue eyes. With a slight yelp in pain, the dhampir looked away and ran out the now open door. She didn't want to stay in there any longer than she needed to.

But what about the Giants... Could she help out in any way? Hugh told her she was fast but what good could that do to attack them... And even then.. Their sight was obscured by this rediculous amount of smoke. This couldn't just be caused by the fire.
Remembering how big and strong they looked, the little dhampir immediately hated that idea. No way would she come close to those guys.

Nico wasn't as scared as before, but she wasn't very courageous either. Looking around, she hoped to find Hugh and the other tall boy. By herself in this place made her uncertain and very very cautious. Nico would be this nervous that whoever would decide to appear behind her and gently pat her shoulder, she'd possible attack them.

'H-Hugh?' She had no other option but to play it safe and call out for her friend. Carefully, she stepped over and around the big pieces of splintered doorwood on the floor.

The whole room was dissolving into chaos. First, the smoke in the room thickened even more than was natural, making it much harder to tell what was happening. Next, Bridget's attempt to extinguishing the flames went terribly wrong, causing the fire to leap up with more strength than before. And then, before she could even express horror at whatever she'd just done, something, or rather someone, flew out of the smoke and landed square on top of her.

The smaller girl felt the wind get knocked out of her as she crashed into the ground. She wheezed, trying to draw air back in but only getting a chestful of smoke. An amount of coughing later, she managed to get back her breath back and could finally assess what had happened. The person on top of her was no one she recognized, but one couldn't really tell as the other girl still had her mask on.

"Oh dear," the previously-flying girl said, clambering off her. "You guys need to go while the door is ssstill open. Get help if you can." Before rushing off to whatever it was she was planning on doing, the girl with the scary costume gave the brunette a push towards the opened door.

But Bridget was not yet ready to leave. She was scared, yes, terrified, in fact, and she had no desire to stay, but she had to at the very least pick up after her own mess, her own blundered spell. Thora was nowhere in sight--she'd rushed off after attempting to help Bridget up to who knew where. The Slytherin could not possibly leave her friend behind. She just needed to get rid of the rest of the fire so the students who stayed to fight wouldn't have to worry about that and then regroup.

Luckily she had kept hold of her wand, finding it still clutched tightly in her left hand. Just as she readied it to cast, inwardly quite terrified of messing up again, she was blinded by a burst of crimson light. The snake attempted to blink away the flash burned into her vision, until at last with the help of her previous knowledge she located a flicker she believed to be the fire.

Still on her knees as there was no reason to stand up into the smoke, she once again moved her wand in the correct gesture. "Extinguo," Bridget uttered, in a smaller, quieter voice than before but still careful to enunciate the incantation correctly. She had to succeed this time.
Action: Cast the Extinguishing Charm (Extinguo) at the remaining flames.

Phyllis watched as Teiki helped Iris hobble off towards wherever Hogwart's medical stuff was. It certainly was a good thing the third year had regained consciousness, but still it was a wonder the small girl was managing it. Anyways, she hoped that all turned out okay because she didn't know why Iris had fainted in the first place, but the remaining trio had bigger problems. Like why the doors to the ballroom had decided to shut them out.

"Yeah, I'm staying," Phyllis answered without a second thought. Karilyna had started to pound on the doors, while Astrid drew her wand, their only defense, which was great because what in Merlin's sake were they going to do: 'Ah! Yes, you, be blinded by Lumos!"

"Why did I not bring my pocketknife? Karilyna, I told you it was for practical reasons! Scratch that--next time I go to something like this I'm going to have like a sledgehammer, and a dagger, and... and an ax. Yeah, all that, in my bag," she ranted. Astrid would have no idea what she was talking about, but it didn't matter. She was serious too--as soon as she found the previously stated weapons she was going to throw them in her magical bag and lug an all-out weaponry around. With any luck, the other girls had been around her enough to not think she was a complete psychopath.

"Know what, might as well include a lockpick. So Astrid, I have no clue what the heck is going on in there and there's probably a chance of us dying tragically, so just so you know I haven't got a clue who Little Red Riding Hood is but I told you I did because I didn't care to know. And Karilyna, sorry for calling you Miss-You-Know-What in public when we got here. I grant you permission to call me my nickname before we maybe die."

She really did not have a clue what was happening behind the doors, but she did think that what she was hearing sounded a lot more like actual screaming than the band yelling their heads off and passing it as music. In fact, she couldn't hear any instruments. The redhead kicked the door in frustration. She wanted to know what was happening, to get back in to the ballroom, but like kicking the door was going to help. Instead, it sent a stab of pain up her foot, causing her to clutch the self-damaged toes and hop up and down like an idiot. However, this action made her look down, causing her to notice smoke pooling out from under the heavy mass of wood.

"...Merlin's beard is going on in there..." she muttered, half a second before *BOOM!* The sealed door exploded inward. Phyllis barely got out of the way in time, whereas Karilyna did not, being slammed into by two older boys, one of whom was plain massive.

"Woah! What's going on?" she yelled, dashing over to dig her friend out. But without the door in the way, she could see the chaos going on within--although smoke blocked most of her vision it was obvious that the skirmishes of earlier had either escalated a lot or something way worse had happened.

Thora had cast Ferula, but they needed to get @Dymphna Teague out of here. Someone, possibly @Gem Stuart it was getting hard to pay attention to it all. @Ruthie Greer seemed to know Dymphna well.
Ruthie, I think that’s your name. Can you take Dymphna out to safety. The doors are open, bring her to the hospital wing.” Katrina pointed at the open doors. “I’m going to stay here and help people that need help.” Katrina addressed this as a silent question to Thora begging her to stay and help. They can put the past behind her for this night. And maybe, Thora could forgive her.
Gem was holding someone and Katrina went over to help. “Is she okay, what happened?” she hoped the question wasn’t nosy but she stayed at his side just to ensure that nothing happened to the unconscious girl.
People were attacking the giants at all angles. She had missed what had been happening previously. But after what happened with the flames, Katrina wasn’t ready to use magic to knock them out. And her weak strength wouldn’t do much. She saw someone hit the giant in the head then someone else jab it with a spear thing. This wasn’t much of a ball anymore.
Sorry for the short RPG

Thora willed the horrifying bleeding to stop, trying to figure out what she could do next. The snek got up, trying to find somewhere to bring the bleeding girl. She needed to save this girl. Just then, a first year--or so she presumed--with wavy blonde hair walked up and simply nodded at Thora and Katrina--older girls--and began applying her own bandages to the girl on the floor. Okay, then... As Katrina addressed the young girl as Ruthie and the bleeding girl as Dymphna, Thora took a step back. Had she met them before? It wasn't her place to judge, but at least she knew these people's names now.

Katrina left to help someone else, and Thora breathed a sigh of relief. At least now, she was a little more comfortable without the Gryffindor around. The Slytherin stared as Ruthie--if that was her name--deftly flipped a table and brought it over to the hurt girl. "Okay, so I'm Thora," she rushed a quick introduction. "Like Katrina said before she left, do you want to try and get her to the Hospital Wing, or will you just stay here for now? I can stay if you want, but if you've got it, I can go too," Thora didn't want to intrude on the pair, as the younger girl seemed to know her elder quite well despite age differences. "Either way works with me," Thora added. Might as well leave the choice up to Ruthie as she seemed to know what she was doing.

Thora would do whatever she could to save this girl, even though she didn't know her. She would stay here, bring her to the Hospital Wing, do whatever it took. But if the first year had it covered, Thora could surely help someone else.

Ru pressed hard, but the patch of blood seemed only to grow as Dymph's responsiveness seemed to fade to complete unconsciousness. "It is, yeah," she said as she jerked her head when she heard one of the girls call her name. She had to admit, she had been a bit rude to the girls who had gotten to Dymphna first, but she'd been way too focused on ensuring her friend would be safe rather than the niceties. She'd prayed the one girl's spell might work, but if it didn't, she needed to do things the muggle way. She wasn't about to leave Dymph's life to a set of dice.

"Doors open," she repeated rhetorically. Her first thought, selfish though it was, was to get to Jorah and get him out. Jorah and Dymph and Adam. They might all need a trip to the hospital wing by the time all this was through. "Okay, thank you for your help," she said to the girl who was off to save more people [Katrina] without moving her hand or her body. She hadn't yet made a decision about moving. But her expression was genuine. Anyone trying to help Dymph was greatly appreciated.

With the first girl gone to help save others, the first one who'd performed the spell introduced herself and proceeded to re-ask the earlier question: would she bring Dymph to the hospital wing or stay here? It was like the chorus of a certain Clash song. "I don't think we can get through the smoke," Ruthie said, while waving for Thora to kneel down behind the safety of the table. A head popping up above the wood would give away their position should a crack be visible through the smoke. "It's too big a risk--we could run her into a wall. I'd rather stop the bleeding while the smoke clears. Once she's stable and we have a line of sight, then we can move her," Ruthie explained her logic and her plan. Maybe it was the wrong choice, but Ruthie was stubborn.

As for the question what Thora could do, that was up to her. "Put your hand here," she instructed Thora as she pointed to Dymph's abdomen with her free hand. Her other hand was beginning to ache--this was hard work--and even a 30 second break would help her greatly. "If you've got another spell, that'd be great, Thora," she explained, "but if not, you might be better served helping others. Once the smoke lifts, if you can find a way back here, I'd appreciate your arm. It'll be a hell of a lot easier to carry her out with two people." If it sounded like orders, it wasn't intentional. She was just a headstrong girl, who sounded more assertive and most clearly more Scottish when she was under pressure. She looked up at the girl with a smile as though to say 'thank you.' She had been going off her experience of first aid and care around the harbor and at sea, but these girls had reminded her there were magical remedies too. In combination, these might just save Dymph's life. Ready to resume pressure, Ru resisted another urge to look up and over for Jorah. She didn't know what it was about that boy, but she was more worried about him than herself.

The moment she shouted the incarnation out loud, black smoke suddenly swallow her whole. It felt like a Déjà-vu cause this reminded her of what happened during the Dodgeball game against the Ravenclaws. She was also got trapped in the black smoke. Then a sudden red light blinded her vision and made the already situation even worse. "Oh...*cough*come on*cough*!" Grisleids felt a chill on her skin, she could only hope that she managed to save the boy who was on flames.

Griseldis quickly covered her eyes with her left arm for not letting the smoke getting inside, she could only hear screams and cries from other students. At this point, she had to rely on her own hearing and senses. "Alan! Alan can you hear me? We still need to go help those two students who were fighting against the Giants!", Griseldis shouted loudly, hopefully, he would be able to hear her since they were not so far away from each other. She was able to touch Alan's hand and would take his hand to walk through the smoke around them. Griseldis felt as if there were no sense of time around them, all she thought was to quickly locate the two students until she heard a few familiar voices from the left side, saying about taking a girl to the Hospital Wing. Those voices...Ruthie? Thora? Yes, Griseldis remembered Ruthie, they once met at the Owerly with another first-year Gryffindor named Adrian, she was also a very talented Chaser. And Thora, the brown haired Slytherin girl she met last month, they did an errand together to clean the Flying Professor's messy room. "Come on, Alan! I think I found them!", Griseldis tried her best to come closer to those voices, shouting as loud as she could in their direction, "RUTHIE! THORA! IT'S ME, GRIS!"

Even though she was still blind at the moment, but the hand she reached out would touch Ruthie or Thora's arm. "Finally! I hope you guys are ok. I heard that you need to help a girl to the Hospital Wing, was she injured badly? Oh and the boy beside me is Alan by the way." Griseldis asked them with a worried tone, she was sure that one of them would explain to her. And she didn't forget to introduce Alan to them, of course. "It's still hard to see where the entrance is but at least I have really good hearing and I'm confident enough to pinpoint the direction of where the door is." Even in the smoke and her vision being blinded, Griseldis was able to point out the direction where the entrance door might be, "I was able to hear Hugh and the other person's voice and them trying to slam open the door. I'll try my best to guide you guys there." Then Griseldis let down her arm that was covering her eyes, her vision was still not so clear but she saw a hint of blue and trusted her own instinct that it should be Ruthie. she went to hold her hand and said with a confident smile, "Ruthie, if you want me to find your other friend I might be able to find him, I don't know his name yet but I still remember his voice. I erhm...also wanted to apologize to him for knocking him off the broom and almost hurt him. Anyway, if anything happens, Alan might be able to use his wand to fight off those Giants or put out the remaining fire on the way and I'll be your guide and shield." Griseldis said while she tighten both of her hands that was holding Alan's left hand and Ruhtie's right hand. She was well prepared for what would come towards them and would keep her promise to protect her friends.

@Phaedra Stavrou
Chaos continued to reign, students making matters worse by creating more fires even as others tried to put them out. It was gratifying when both his and Phae's magic managed to quell a few flames, however one fire still remained and it was making things all the worse between smoke and some dumbass casting a flash of red sparks that only managed to blind those nearest to them. Screams alerting him to the fact that the monsters blocking the doors may have found targets, Max sank down behind the table with his wand clutched in both hands and his face drawn in a desperate look of frustration.

"Are you okay?" he asked Phaedra after a moment, turning to her with a brief smile of reassurance that he himself didn't feel. "We did good with those spells. The fire is almost out." His voice fell oddly flat to his own ears, yet speaking helped ground him and looking Phaedra in the face reminded him of the reason why he'd spent so much time studying.

Originally it had been to help in whatever nefarious purposes his family set out for him, but since meeting his friends everything had changed. He didn't want to fight for some stupid faceless cause created by adults; he wanted to fight for them. He wanted to have the power to protect the student group he'd come to love no matter the cost, and if he couldn't prove all his years of work had meaning today then what was the point? Phae, Eris, Rhea, Serena, Alexx, Reid, Adam, Dymph... Hell, even Rosie Parker didn't deserve this to happen to her. None of the students suffering today did. Someone had to do something.

The splintering of the door breaking made Max close his eyes briefly, trying to envision the layout before it had become chaos. There had been at least one giant in the doorway and it was reasonable to assume he was still there trying to prevent people from getting out. Other students might be trying to attack him, but if they couldn't manage to get him away from where he was standing then it would be a problem, especially with the lack of visibility. A well-placed spell might be able to go a long way if only everyone's accuracy wasn't lowered from the smoke and sparks. Physical attacks were also a possibility, but basically a suicide mission against hulking creatures that had bodies built to withstand tanks.

"Think," he muttered to himself, tucking his wand away as he tried to remember what he'd read. All he had now was his brain, something the two massive assholes didn't exactly have an abundance of. They liked to kill, he knew that much. They weren't the smartest beasts in the world, could understand basic English, hated cramped spaces, didn't work well together, fought over positions...

"It's too coordinated for giants to be behind this," he said aloud, the hairs on the back of his neck rising as he stood up and risked exposing himself. He looked back down at Phaedra and this time the fierce smile that grew over his face wasn't one faked to reassure anyone. He had the world's stupidest idea. Ninety nine percent chance of failure, might get him killed. But even if there was a one percent chance it would work, he had to try. If not to save himself, then to give everyone else a fighting chance to get out.

He opened his mouth to say something significant to his best friend, perhaps something really cool that would leave an impression. If this were an action movie and he were the hero, he'd probably say 'I'll be back,' kiss her to leave them both surprised, then dash out to save the day. But Max was no hero, he was more terrified of kissing than giants, and his plans had a penchant for failing spectacularly. So all he said was "Don't let these assholes say I never do anything for them" before vaulting over the table and booking it to the stage the band had been on.

Running solely on adrenaline, he ignored everything and began a search of the stage for the incredibly loud microphone the band had been using. If he found it, he would use it to speak. If not, he would stand on the stage with his hands cupped over his mouth to yell in the last direction he'd seen the giants.

"Kids?" he asked, voice pitched incredulously, only wobbling slightly. "Man, I always thought giants were strong but if they're attacking stupid little wizard kids who barely know any spells, I guess I was wrong. I mean, I know somebody probably set this up because they know giants are idiots who will listen to whatever they're told - especially from smarter races - but this is just ridiculous. The whole Wizarding World already thinks giants are a freaking joke since all they manage to do is get wiped out by Aurors, but once this makes the paper - mate, that race will be laughed at for eternity. Hell, attacking us makes them look weaker than House Elves!

"No, I don't think this is the way to prove themselves at all. What would their Gurg say? He'd probably make them the bottom of the pack and force them to be the ones to gather food for weeks! He probably wouldn't even let them eat or sleep where they wanted. You know what I think would make them seem really fearsome and have wizards cower in terror, offering them all sorts of gifts so they don't come after us? A giant versus giant fight. That's really the only way to prove who's the biggest and strongest - and who deserves to get all the food. Those guys both probably think the one they're working for will give them great rewards, but that person will obviously give the better rewards to the stronger one. C'mon guys, let's be realistic, one of you should get all the rewards. I mean, if you guys fight I'll respect you so much that I'll let the winner kill and eat me as a prize! It would be an honour for me!"

@Alexx Séverin

When Simon had heard that they had a chance to come to Britain to get to know their magic school counterparts, he had so not signed up for this part of it. Uh-uh, nope, not in the contract and if this were a career he'd be demanding danger pay and compensation for emotional trauma that would last a lifetime. One moment he was joking around with a pretty girl about painting the Headmaster up and having a good chuckle out of it, the next the room was suddenly choked in smoke with massive dudes stomping around kidnapping students like this was a regular old thing they'd done rehearsal for.

"Jesus Murphy, Jesus Murphy," he gasped as his fingers dug into his hair and he tried to decide what to do. He was a farmer boy! He was from a small Canadian town! The worst thing that had ever happened in his lifetime was his Grandpap falling down the stairs then wheezing out curses at a screaming Simon who'd never seen a broken hip before. And that had left him traumatized for weeks!

"Greg, I think I might have shat myself," he whispered as the rat suddenly nosed his way out from under Simon's hat to look around blearily, let out a squeak, then retreat back into the kid's dark hair. Fat lot of help he was. Putting one wobbly leg in front of the other, Simon walked in the direction he'd last seen Alexx. Since the doors had definitively shut and he couldn't see whether they'd opened, the only thing he could come up with doing was going to help the girl out. Step after step, and he realized with a certain amount of relief that he had not shat himself, though the fact that he originally hadn't been sure if he'd had a bowel movement went to show just how dire things were.

"Alexx...?" he whimpered out, then shrieked, jumping away from what he figured out a second later was a table. Screams cut through the air and he crouched, covering his head like a bomb was coming down before realizing that it wasn't close enough to hurt him. Putting a hand over his chest, he started counting out his breaths to calm down as he wandered through the smoke without any concept of where he was.

"Onetwothreefour," he breathed in, avoiding broken glass. "Onetwothreefour." Out, and he fumbled to take his wand out of jacket and nearly dropped it. "Onetwothreefour." In, the plague doctor mask and sunglasses giving everything a weird tint. "Onetwothreefour." Out, and a shape in front of him nearly made him cry with relief. It had to be her, she'd come in this direction, there was no way it was -

A giant. When he stepped close enough to see through the fog, he had to look up and up to realize the ugly brute he was looking at wasn't Boston Bruin's defenseman Zdeno Chara who towered over the rest of the world, but instead some sort of massive magic creature that he knew next to nothing about. Letting out a scream that shredded his throat, he acted on pure impulse and did what any respectable wizard would do in the same situation. He forgot magic existed and tried to stab the dude with his wand.
