Noelle's own question got her thinking: what was she looking forward to? She would be learning a handful of subject over the course of seven years and she hadn't really consider which one she was particularly interested in. Or maybe she thought it'd be like muggle school, where they'd all be equally dull, but she definitely needed to scratch that; magic was at the very least boring and was, as it goes, enchanting.

Although she had grown up with it, though not as much as Roman had, apparently, she always felt like magic was something very special and precious, but that was maybe because she didn't experience that much. Now things are going to change, for she was going to an institution that was going to cover everything from simple charms to mysterious, ancient runes.

The young dark haired witch listened as Clementine explained how excited she was about flying. Noelle grinned along with her; flying a broomstick did sound amazing. She had never done so herself, for obvious reasons concerning living amongst muggles her entire life, but she had always wanted to do it. She tried to fly the conventional ones bought at stores but they weren't made like the ones in Diagon Alley, so her attempts tended to be unsuccessful.

Quidditch was a subject that Noelle knew a lot about, though she would never admit that to anyone. She wasn't really a sports person, unless you counted skateboarding, but there was something about that first Quidditch game that had sparked her interest. Now, she wasn't a die hard fan but she did have her own favorite team, the Wimbourne Wasps. Coming into a close second was the Holyhead Harpies. Noelle wondered if the others had favorites, too.

"Oh, oh, and Charms, too! Clementine exclaimed, clearly delighted about their subjects. Noelle hoped that they'd get into the same classes, so she could sit by someone she knew. Ah, there are a lot of subjects and I want to know everything about magic, you know? The one that scares me the most is Potions..."

Clementine went on to mention someone named Selene, who Noelle was about to ask about, but then Roman said, "I'd luv' to join the Quidditch team, ya know.

Her head turned to him, giving him a curious look. Been flyin' since I was a child." He acted nonchalant about it but Noelle had the idea that it meant more to him than he let on, given the shadow of a smile on his lips. She liked to think that people didn't mention things unless it meant something to them, like herself.

Noelle stretched her arms a bit and sighed softly, gazing out window. I have to admit that I didn't consider it much, I just want to do well in school, but I do hope that History of Magic is better than it sounds. She offered a knowing smile to Roman. But Flying sounds nice.

She turned to Clementine again. By the way, who is Selene? Is she a friend of yours? She thought for a moment, remembering that she had mentioned that the person already had a favorite class. She wanted to ask what grade they were in but figured that Clementine would answer that.

Clementine finds herself at awe at the boy's words. The dismissive way he acts when he comments on being able to fly a broom since a child makes her a little too shocked for her own good; eyes wide, imagining herself in his place. Other than talkative, most people would describe her as clumsy, and all the proof they needed were right there on her knees, hidden under her dress, so, the thought of flying also came with the thought of falling.

She'd seen Irene and Selene flying around the backyard many times before, racing against each other, having so much fun, and, in the back of her mind, she could only hope that learning how to fly was easy enough that she could do it without breaking any bones in the first attempts.

Clementine listens as Noelle talks about History of Magic, and though the girl had already read part of the books she bought at the Diagon Alley with Valerie and her father, she joins in the excitement over the subject. The wizarding world's history was complex, going back to millions of years, and, yes, her brain isn't capable of memorizing a lot of things, but if the Professor's method of teaching resonated with her, Clementine can definitely see herself adoring that subject.

She turns back to Noelle when the brown-haired girl asks about Selene; if she's a friend, to which Clemente only shudders, a little. "Nooo..." She prolongs her 'oh', sounding just a little evasive, peeking outside of the window, then she laughs. "She's my older stepsister. She's pureblood, just like you," Her eyes drift towards Roman, feeling like she should include him a little more, as he seemed bored and lonely. "And a Ravenclaw. It's the house for the smart and creative, right? I think I already know that I'm not getting sorted there,"

Clementine's taken her time to read about the different four houses that welcomed the students at Hogwarts, and she's heard Valerie and her daughters talk about them a lot. Her stepmother had gone to Slytherin, the house of the cunning and ambitious, to which she understood perfectly, as Valerie was known for being a smooth talker and a strong-leader, while Selene and Irene had been sorted to Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, the house of creativity, resourcefulness, and loyalty and hard work, respectively. And there was also Gryffindor, the lions, the chivalrous and brave.

Quite frankly, other than reading about them, not once had Clementine tried to see which house would suit her best. Thinking about it, she lets out her thoughts, "I think I represent a lot of Hufflepuff qualities, but I'm not sure... I can easily cross out Ravenclaw and Slytherin, and I'm still not sure about Gryffindor." She glances at the two students there with her, "What do you think? Where do you guys think you're going?"

[quote][quote]“Well, it's clear that ya have Hufflepuff written all over, don't ya think?” Roman bites, as some sort of joke, knowing neither of the girls will find it funny. He does, however, shaking his head to himself, that common sneer appearing on his face. The badger's house is known for their naive and ‘oh aren’t we so good and delicate?’ vibe, that kind of makes him sick with all that kindness, which is very unlikely of him; the word kindness alone is enough to make him turn green.

That seems to sum up Clementine pretty well, however, he thinks to himself, with a simple shrug. Her question lingers in his brain, not letting go, and as his eyes fall the compartment’s floor, Roman gives a thought or two about it.

The Kingstons are known for a family tree composed of eagles, and eagles only; a bunch of smart and creative minds forming a very blue lineage, and knowing that he says, without giving any more thought to it, not wanting to look interested or anything that could make want them to prolong that conversation, “I'm a Ravenclaw, that's fo' sure,” Not that Roman would mind that; it’s definitely better than Hufflepuff and Gryffindor. “It’s sorta the only option I’ve got, ya know.”

It’s not a lie. Being a Ravenclaw is one of the many family traditions, just like becoming a Prefect, then a Ministry of Magic employee, and it’s the only one Roman doesn’t seem to mind, out of all of those. Ravenclaws are, just like Clementine had said in her quick rant, the smart and creative, the problem-solvers. But, what truly bothers him is that, at this point, it feels like he already has his entire life laid down in front of him; he’ll have a brilliant report card, go straight to an important position in the Ministry after graduation, then, meet some pureblood witch and marry her, have more than one kid in order to keep the family alive, and, finally, die, not fulfilled, with an empty and remote life behind him.

Roman completely hates that. He’s never been good at following someone’s order. The boy’s good left to his own judgment, thank you very much. If anything, people should be the ones following him. Frankly, it can be suffocating, have this cast shadow of expectations looming above his head.

The boy never wanted to be a part of the Ministry, having seen first hand how draining and boring that job could be. Roman has always wanted to have a successful job that allowed him to have a bit more fun. You know, to be able to show his father he didn’t have to stay put in a chair for hours and hours a week to have a brilliant future. Just like his mother, he wanted to follow the music industry. It’s a dream that blossomed in his heart after following her career for the many years of his life.

Hyeon’s a very passionate witch. Whenever she steps on stage, there’s sort of a magical twinkle in her eyes, and her voice alone glued people to her, let alone her charisma. Roman had clearly inherited her virtuous traits, being able to play the electric guitar and the piano. Hidden in his trunk now close to him, is the blue electric guitar his mother’s agent had given him one as a birthday gift, once Hyeon couldn’t attend his party. Due to him cultivating a love for music from a very young age, there’s a sort of burning desire, a small flame, a yearning, beating inside his chest, telling him he should form a band and live off of his music.

“Well, I wouldn’t mind goin' to Slytherin or anythin', ya know,” Roman adds, later on, realizing he’s been awfully quiet, deep in his own thoughts, considering the may ideas popping in his brain. Part of him hopes those two haven't noticed. “Bettah than any of the other two houses, that’s fo’ sure.” His dark eyes fixate on Noelle, trying to change the focus of his somewhat heavily emotionally charged words. "What 'bout you?

Ah, so it a relative. Noelle found it hard to relate, because the only family she had ever knew was her mother...well, that was a lie. This past summer someone had made a sudden appearance, a woman by the name of Evadne Risewell who introduced herself as her godmother.

She had been a best friend of Noelle's father growing up but after he passed away everyone on his side disappeared as well. It was like locking a door: you would never have access to anything in it ever again.

But something had happened while she had been shopping in Diagon Alley. It was her second time being there and this woman tapped her own the shoulder while she was in the apothecary. Noelle's mother was busy in Gringotts so she never got to see the woman, but Evadne said that she recognized her from when she was a little girl, and after overhearing her name.

They spoke for a while, strangely clicking better than Noelle would've thought, and she made a promise to keep in touch; she was her godmother, after all.

Noelle didn't know what her blood status was, not that it mattered to her. She could care less about people's backgrounds, it was all about who they were then and now, and who they were going to be.

The conversation drifted to the topic of houses. Clementine mentioned that her stepsister, the one named Selene, was in Ravenclaw. That didn't answer her wonder about which house she was in but at least the girl knew someone who could possibly help her around Hogwarts. Some of the students who were new to magic, or knew hardly enough about it, had to face it all alone. Maybe she would seek Clementine for help once they got settled in the school.

"I think I represent a lot of Hufflepuff qualities, but I'm not sure..., said Clementine, seemingly pondering over her options. I can easily cross out Ravenclaw and Slytherin, and I'm still not sure about Gryffindor."

Right after she asked them about their possible houses, Roman came in with, Well, it's clear that ya have Hufflepuff written all over, don't ya think?

Noelle's head snapped to the left involuntarily. Oh, how she really wanted to say something to him. But it was against her to say anything foul to someone, especially is she kinda felt bad for them. She clenched her teeth and forced herself to glare at the ground. He just sounded so bigoted, it was getting really irritating to Noelle. She had to remind herself that Clementine didn't seem that much bothered, she seemed like the optimistic type, so she just crossed her arms and sat up a little straighter.

Roman went on to say that he would get into Ravenclaw. She wondered what he meant by it being his only option. Maybe it was his family's tradition, or he felt like he was the type to just get in, without much of a say.

As he talked, she wondered about which house she'd get in herself. Like many of the subjects, she hadn't looked into them well but Clementine explained them enough for her to get a good grasp on what kind of people got into them.

Her own mother had been in Hufflepuff, and her father...he had been in Slytherin. The brief talk she had with her godmother had revealed that everyone said that he had the heart of a lion, the spirit of a badger, and the mind of a serpent. Her mother, on the other hand, was a full-blown Hufflepuff, which Noelle could obviously tell. Clementine and her mother would definitely get along, they were just alike.

Noelle chewed on her lip as she contemplated her answer. ...I think that I'll get into Gryffindor, or Ravenclaw, she simply replied. Then Noelle went silent and turned to face the window. Those two made the most sense; she was pretty daring when it came to things she cared about, and that unleashed her ability to be creative without fear of disapproval. But Noelle didn't say this; she wanted to be alone to reflect on her thoughts for a moment.

There's something going on between the other two, Clementine notices once she sees Noelle's rather frustrated glance in the boy's direction. Now, the brown-haired girl had decided to look outside of the window, deep in thought, while Roman was slouching on his seat, with the same bored expression as before. She frowns to herself, confused, unsure of what to do or say. It's clear that Noelle doesn't seem to be very fond of the boy, while the pureblood just seems mad at both of them.

Maybe not at both of them, she tells herself, trying to stop the worrying question about what she possibly could have done to earn such reaction; but maybe at the world in general. Selene is often like that, too; getting mad over the simple things and taking out of others. After all, maybe Roman really is a Ravenclaw, considering the many similarities between the boy and her stepsister.

"A Ravenclaw, a Hufflepuff, and a Gryffindor," Clementine chirps, excitedly, hoping to invert the situation and make everyone happy. It's one of her many gifts, her father used to say; she's always capable of putting a smile on someone's face, no matter how bad their day is going. "All we needed is a Slytherin and then we'd be the four founders!"

[quote][quote]“Ain’t that cute?” Roman mocks, a lot more of unnecessary venom dripping from his words this time around, as he runs his fingers through his dark hair, then crossing his arms, sliding against the velvet seat, pleased with himself. His eyes peek from Clementine, who obviously isn’t taken aback from his words, then towards Noelle’s direction, bored.

The girl seems busy looking outside, thinking, he notices once he scans her from up and down. Part of him, the curious one, asks himself what she might be thinking, but the other part promptly makes him dart his eyes away from her, asking why would he care? He glues his eyes to Clementine, that bubbly redhead is starting to get on his nerves, with all her talking and naive smile, and it seems he isn't rilling her up in the slightest, which makes the frustration burn inside of his chest, as he feels the taste of something sour in his mouth, expression closing.

A second later, his eyes are back at Noelle. Other than a few comments that could make someone dislike him, he didn't think she'd be the one to dislike him the most, considering he isn't even trying to annoy her. However, it’s obvious that she doesn’t like him, at all, due to the quick facial expressions she makes every time he stops speaking, which makes a little spark of interest grow inside of his chest. Quite honestly Roman doesn’t mind that. He finds it amusing, really. It makes him wonder how long he could annoy her until she exploded, making things even more fun.

“It’d be hard to find the perfect Salazar Slytherin out there, dontcha think?” At first, he sounds delicate and genuine, but soon that sneer appears on his face, knowing very well what could rile both of those girls. Hopefully, neither of them can tell where he’s going with this. The comment is a bit meaner than all the others he’s made, and would certainly make a pureblood supremacist such as his father proud, but the boy doesn’t actually believe in what he saying.

Anyways, he continues, voice smooth and delicate, pretending to sound gentle, “Since Hogwarts started acceptin’ more and more people such as yarself, if ya know what I mean. Could be Salazar myself, come to think of it,” Roman touches his chest, pretending he just had an idea. Then, without even waiting for their reaction, he looks down, shaking his head, bursting into a peal of soft laughter. “Sorry sorry, it's a joke.”

Memories of her past began to wander into her mind, and she wanted to reminisce in peace. As always, she tried to remember everything she could about her father, because it was like looking at blank sheets of paper witch only his name written on top. Is was if something, or someone had just...ripped all information from her brain and no matter how hard, she just couldn't recall him.

Not even when people mentioned things he's done or showed her pictures of him would she remember. That path was blocked, unreachable, and that really frustrated Noelle.

The only thing she could remember of her father was one very short scene, in which he had given her a peppermint. But she couldn't even remember when or where that had happen. Or why he had given to her, besides that maybe she asked for it, being a little kid bent on sugar. But...she wanted to remember, everything she could.

Noelle hates her mind sometimes, specifically her memory. Even though she had a thirst for knowledge she would forget a lot of it if it didn't truly interest her. It was like she knew things, but she just couldn't access the information. Sure, she had every memory of her mother stored in the pink slush but not one sole thing of her father that mattered.

Her mother was a very special lady. She was always doing something, ready to go somewhere, help someone, or tell something, she was the definition of lively. And that was the opposite of Noelle. Even though she tried, she could never figure out what was so great about being so happy, or enthusiastic, if that was a better word for it. Every other week her mother had a new wig or hair color, trying something different to spice up her mostly mundane life, while Noelle preferred to live up to the word 'discreet'.

Her wardrobe consisted of mostly black but she wasn't lifeless; she added a little color here and there, with red, purple, gold, and even pink, when she was feeling bold. Noelle's favorite color was blue like the sea when it was cloudy. It matched her mood, or that's what she'd like to think, but her mother said Noelle was more like a grey or silver type of person. Shiney, valuable, and minimalistic. Noelle's answer to that was 'uh, I guess'.

Noelle never said 'uh', 'um', or even 'er'. It was against her vocabulary, at least around everyone else in the world. Her mother, well, she was someone who'd spill anything to, or at least it used to be like that. Nowadays she's been a little uncertain when it came to sharing things with Danica Carmona. Magic was not her forte, even though she grew up with it. Her mother shied away from her witch side and would answer any questions about it as plainly as possible. It pained Noelle both because she knew why and because she wished it wasn't so.

She had zoned out, which wasn't unusual. Actually, Noelle preferred to be, especially in this case. A certain someone was making her feel uneasy and she knew that he was definitely not going anywhere. It was like being trapped in a cage with a devil and an angel: she didn't know whether to be equally nice or to be equally mean.

Noelle chose neither.

Since she was a member of that group she couldn't really be excluded, as long as she was in the room, so Noelle tuned back into the conversation. She hadn't caught what Clementine had said but did notice how the girl kept glancing between them both, like she had an idea of what was going on. Noelle consider sitting by her.

—people such as yarself, if ya know what I mean. Could be Salazar myself, come to think of it.

Roman was going on about something but Noelle had no clue, and was starting not to care. Something about the founder of Slytherin, which she thought he probably belonged in, but he wasn't that cunning, just annoying...or maybe he was. She hadn't heard the first part, and she figured that was a good thing, but she had the strange notion that it had been something very uncalled for.

Especially because he just burst into laughter. He said that it was a joke but she didn't laugh. She frowned and gave him a strange look, like he was acting crazy. Noelle was about to go back to daydreaming when she remembered something.

Time to change the subject. She sat upright and looked between the two, focusing her attention on Clementine. Noelle was clearly excited by something, which explained her bright eyes and the grin she was struggling to keep in a small smile. I'm going to go check for the Trolley Lady—anyone want to come with?

Noelle made a side glance at Roman, her smile fading a little; she definitely didn't want to bring him along, with his snide remarks, but the world was full of flaws she had to deal with everyday. She wish she could say that to his face but she wasn't like that.

I want to try the cauldron cakes. she added, as she stood up, making her way out the door. Forget whatever dumb thing he had just said; she was hungry.

Neither of them laughs at Roman's joke, who clearly had a very different sense of humor than hers. Noelle wasn't paying attention to whatever he's saying, but Clementine because she didn't find it very funny. Frowning, the girl wonders what he means by 'people like them', as there's nothing that differs the two of them to Roman. Maybe he really relates to the founder of Slytherin, she tells herself, in order to fill the blank space in her mind, seems reasonable enough, trying to not read too much into the boy's words.

Changing the subject, Noelle gets up, mentioning someone called the Trolley Lady, which Clementine's heard before. Her stepsisters used to go on and on about the different sweets that the old lady in the Hogwarts Express used to sell and how delicious they are. She's not into sweet pastries or candies, unfortunately, so, when Noelle asks if anyone wants to join her, Clementine shakes her head.

"Nope, thanks, I'm not fond of sweets," she says politely, with a small smile on her face, watching as Noelle makes her way towards the compartment door. Suddenly a familiar taste comes to her mouth, bringing memories with it, which makes her shudders, "I tried to Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans once and I ended feeling really sick."

[quote][quote]As his laughter dies, Roman shoves his hands inside his of the pockets of his black jeans, once again bored, looking down at his big trunk. The only things in there are clothing, his school books, and his electric guitar, so there’s nothing he can do to pass time other than listen to Clementine, which would only drain his energy some more. Now that he thinks about, he should’ve brought some of his all-time favorite novels or his poetry journal, to keep his mind busy as the train makes its way towards the wizarding school.

He watches Noelle get up, saying she’ll look for the Trolley-Lady and the suggestion perks his interest, an idea to make his boredom go away. The girl asks if anyone wants to join and before he can jump to his feet, Clementine states she doesn’t want to go. Half-listening to whatever reason Clementine gives while searching his pockets after some galleons or sickles, assuming the sweets from the Express might be of a similar cost to the ones at the Diagon Alley.

Thankfully (and surprisingly), he finds some money, which makes him get up, slowly. His old man’s never trusted him with money, as he should; Roman’s known for going on quite shopping sprees if he has the money he needs. Most of what he buys his father deems as useless trash, just as his collectibles and his mother's albums. Whenever he gets the chance to buy what he wants, he hides them, then buys a book to compensate.

“I’ll go,” Roman says and he stirs up from his lazy position, running his fingers through his hair, stopping in front of Noelle, raising one eyebrow, with an almost wicked glow to his smirk directed at her, waiting for her to say something. He doubts she’ll be opposed to him going, considering she’s barely said anything about his behavior, but he stays silent, waiting for something, anything. The smirk grows bigger and he purs, “Ladies first,” followed by a wink.

Noelle was a little disappointed that Clementine didn't want to come, she actually wanted to talk to her more. She liked how friendly she was and wanted to her more about what Hogwarts was like, but she'd ask her any burning questions she had when they got back.

They, as in Noelle and Roman. Noelle stood there, watching as he fished for any money he had. She wondered if he were wealthy, and what it was like being a Pureblood. Her own mother struggled hard enough just to give her daughter a few coins to spare, but luckily Noelle had her own secret stash of money, enough that when she had exchanged it at Gringotts she had enough to buy some extra things for herself.

She stuck her hands into her pocket and pulled out her tiny purse, one with kittens all over it. She gazed at it sheepishly but decided not to be embarrassed; it was insanely cute to her and made her smile. That grin was still on her face when she looked up at Roman, who was running his hair through his hair.

He got up and waited, saying, Ladies first. followed by a wink. Noelle just frowned and turned to Clementine.

I'll bring back something that I think you'll like, Clementine. And with that, she headed out the compartment.

She didn't bother waiting for Roman at first but then she slowed down when they neared the end of the traincar. Noelle looked back to say something, just as the Trolley Lady was making her way through the doorway right before her.

Noelle stepped back into a nearby compartment, which was empty, to let the elderly woman through. They both shared a grin and she stopped, letting the students come to her to buy things. Noelle's eyes danced across the assortment of treats, but she was trying to choose something for Clementine before anything, even if she had declined.

She was trying to decide between licorice wands, jelly slugs, Bertie Bottsl's jelly beans, and cauldron cakes, because she did want to save her money for future things, but she couldn't decide. When it came to treats, Noelle was always at a lost, because sweets didn't come her way much, especially wizards ones.

Noelle stood there with a bewildered expression as everyone else was buying things left and right. At some point she caught sight of Roman and watched him with a curious expression; maybe she should ask him.
