The Hogwarts study hall was a sanctuary of studious silence, a vast, light room filled with glossy wooden desks and the gentle whisper of pages turned. The late afternoon sun streamed through high windows, bathing dust motes that danced in the air and painting golden, rectangular patches on the floor. The smell of worn parchment and the homely, subtle scent of hot tea from an enchanted kettle in the corner permeated the room.

Aurette was reclined leisurely in a large, winged armchair in a quiet corner, flooded with warm light from a tall window. Her long, black hair, normally dressed, was now unbound, spread around her like a dark velvet cloak as she leaned back into the soft cushions. She held a Muggle book in her hands, the leather cover of which was a muted green with fanciful drawings: a smiling cat, a perplexed girl, a whirlwind of playing cards. It was "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland," a treasured respite from her mother's Muggle youth.

Her bright green eyes were wide, not because of the sharp seeing she frequently employed for drawing, but with a profound immersion in the bizarre world of Alice. She followed a finger over a line of writing, her lips nervously forming words as she envisioned the strange tea party, the maddening croquet, and the mystifying reason of Wonderland. A gentle, barely visible smile danced on her lips as she visualized a White Rabbit worrying about being tardy or a Mad Hatter pouring tea.

Surrounding her, the study room buzzed with the soft labors of other students. A Ravenclaw prefect carefully arranged a pile of ancient runes texts, their quill scratching softly. Behind a high bookshelf, two Gryffindors were having a subdued argument over the use of various defensive charms. The soft cough here and there, or the sound of a creaking floorboard in the distance, only added to the feeling of tranquility in Aurette's corner.

Aurette loved the wild, illogical magic of Wonderland. It was so different from the structured spells and carefully cataloged creatures of Hogwarts. Here, a Cheshire Cat could vanish to a grin, and a Caterpillar could offer philosophical advice from atop a mushroom. She found a strange comfort in its absurdity, a delightful counterpoint to the earnest pursuits of her wizarding education.

As she read, she pictured what sorts of oddball plants Wonderland would contain – stranger and less predictable than anything found in the Hogwarts greenhouses – or what sorts of fanciful creatures she would draw if she ever found herself falling down a rabbit hole. The book was a glimpse into another sort of magic, one that set her artistic imagination afire and fostered her secret marveling.

With the school year drawing to a close, Lear knew he had no time to waste. Every day counted when you were chasing top marks. The exhaustion had already begun to settle in—long nights spent cramming, minimal sleep, and the ever-present pressure weighing on his shoulders. But he pushed through. He had to. The thought of his parents' disappointment was unbearable, and Jean’s condescending remarks would be even worse.

As exam season raged on, Lear stepped into the study hall only to be greeted by a frustrating sight—nearly every seat was already taken. The room buzzed with students, some buried in textbooks, others clearly wasting time. A few were even dozing off at their desks, while others twirled quills and stared blankly into space.

If you’re going to waste time, at least have the decency to do it in your dormitory, Lear thought bitterly. He considered leaving in search of a quieter corner elsewhere in the castle.

He was just about to retreat when his gaze landed on a girl tucked away in a secluded corner. She sat alone and seemed to be focused on reading a book. Mercifully, the seat beside her was still empty. She looked young- probably a first year like himself- and judging by the yellow trim on her robes, a Hufflepuff.

Reluctantly Lear approached her. He didn’t recognize her, he was sure he would have remembered her otherwise, even if just by her long and silky black hair falling over her shoulders. She seemed completely absorbed in her book. "A muggle one." he thought with curiosity.

She didn't seem to notice him so he gently tapped her on the shoulder, not wanting to startle her. "Is this seat taken?" he asked pointing towards the armchair next to her. He hoped the exhaustion on his face wouldn't make him look to off-putting.

Isabella practically flew to the study corner after she had gotten dressed and brushed her teeth. She realized, half way there, that she needed to fix her hair. She then raced back to her dorm and brushed out her brown hair. She then hurried to the study corner, again.

The sun was barely up, but she was already in the study corner. She looked around the room and saw several students reading, or playing chopsticks with each other. Some were asleep, but she payed no attention to this.

She spotted a boy she recognized as Lear Thornwood, another first year, but he was in Slytherin. Then, she noticed another Hufflepuff in her year, Aurette Clarke. She had seen Aurette in the halls of Hogwarts before. She had also sat near her at meals before. What a coincidence that they would see each other again.

She slowly made her way over to the girl and boy. "Hi, are you reading 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland?'" She then looked towards the boy, who tapped Aurette on the shoulder. He looked tired.

"Hi, I'm Isabella Dín. You're Lear Thornwood, correct?" She smiled and held up a hand for greeting, as she looked to the boy, awaiting an answer.

"I know something interesting is sure to happen."

Aurette read to herself, she was on chapter four of the book, the chapter entitled 'The Rabbit Sends in Little Bill', she thought it was an odd and very funny title.

As she read on, she was too busy being too engrossed with her book, the chapter had now started to get interesting, Alice had drunk the funny little potion labeled 'DRINK ME' that she hardly noticed when both Lear and Isabella entered and jumped a little when her shoulder was tapped by a rather cold finger. She looked up and saw a tall, slender boy about her age, he had an expressionless face on and fixed black hair. "Is this seat taken?", he asked, voice somewhat cold, and pointed to an empty armchair across her.

Before Aurette could answer, a girl with long, curly brown hair and brown eyes that resembled honey spoke, "Hi, are you reading Alice's Adventures in Wonderland?", her voice was calm and smooth. She then faced the boy who had asked Aurette, "Hi, I'm Isabella Dín, you're Lear Thornwood, right?", she said, awaiting for an answer.

After a few moments, when Lear apparently didn't answer, Aurette decided that it was time for her to make her own jab at this not-so-enthusiastic conversation. She faced Isabella and said to her with a warm smile on her face, "Erm, yes this is Alice's Adventures in Wonderland", then turned to face Lear, "And yes, the armchair's free, for both of you actually", she offered to Isabelle.

Aurette replied to Isabella's question with a warm smile, "Erm, yes this is Alice's Adventure in Wonderland," Aurette then turned to the boy, "And yes, this armchair's free, for both of you actually", she offered to Isabella, too.

Isabella replied, "Thank you, but I'm in the mood to sit on the ground." Isabella pulled over a fluffy and white pillow, then she pushed it up against the bookcase next to Aurette. She also pulled over a fluffy blanket.

'I hope she doesn't mind me sitting here.' Isabella smiled at Aurette, and she sat down leaning on the pillow. Isabella snuggled up in her fluffy and white blanket. She brought her book to read, she would study later in the afternoon. She pulled out her book called, Madness, by Paityn E. Parque. She began reading,

Ezra awoke with a blistering headache, blurry vision and a dry throat. She glanced at the clock and groaned. She had overslept, and now she was late for school. Kicking off her covers, she got out of bed, threw on comfortable clothes, and brushed her hair and teeth. "No, no, no," she grumbled as she rushed down the stairsband to the front door without saying goodbye to her mother. "Ezra!" her mother called with authority, "Stop."
