Interacting with @Santario Martin, @Rosie Parker, @Griseldis Edelhardt, and @Jack Warren
"T-Thanks." He meekly spke acknowledging Griseldis and shaking her hand lightly. He still gripped Rosie's hand in his other one, after simply nodding sadly at Santario Martin. Clear regret and sadness in his eyes for what he in part caused. Quinn was in no mood to be cheered up he just wanted to escape from everything. There was no longer any incentive for him to stay in the blasted ball room. The Half-Giant should have never come to this dumb ball in the first place, that'll teach him.
Quinn Healy would start taking the lead following behind Santario and the small group that was now headed for the Hospital wing. Gods his chest was burning and his jaw was sore, the pain was slowly creeping up and spreading throughout his body. His shoulders were slumped and back slouched to the point that he now looked physically smaller. The poor redhead was like a sad puppy that just got kicked in the stomach by its owner. One could only hope that nothing worse happened. But as he has learned through his life, the world loves shitting on him when he's at his highest point.
Unless stopped Quinn Healy would take his leave from the ball along with Rosie and the small group that is making their exit.
To fear the unknown is to fear progress, don't shy away from it. Embrace it and discover something new.

Katrina stood breathing heavily. She waved a few people over and began to overview what had happened. A few people seemed on the brink of unconsciousness and Katrina knew now was the time to say something. After seeing one person's technique @James McMurtrie she yelled it over everyone, "IF YOU ARE STRUGGLING BREATHING, USE A NAPKIN TO KEEP THE SMOKE OUT OF YOUR MOUTH." she ironically stopped in a bout of coughing.
She avoided the fire and began pulling everything out of the way. A few chairs she was trying to move were too close and Katrina screamed as a flicker of flame graced her hand. She hastily brushed it on her pants and ignored the tears welling up in her eyes. She drug the chairs far from the flame and ran to the concessions table. She grabbed a cup and found a trash can. She held out her burnt hand and poured the cups contents over it. She bit her lip to keep from crying again. She frowned and took a scarf from her bag, man was she glad she brought it. Katrina tied it around her hand tightly to bandage it and returned back to the flames to pull chairs far away.
She thankfully took a damp napkin from @Gem Stuart and held it to her face. She addressed him, "We need to pull any chairs from the fire to keep it from spreading farther. And tell everyone to meet over here, we need somewhere to help people." she turned from him after an answer and found other people to tell.

“Trifles are too good to be described! You gotta eat them to know,” Jay said, letting out a chuckle, they were honestly crazy for trifles... Soon enough the pretty red head started to thank them which then made their cheeks turn bright red. They weren’t used to this! “I-I- um- n-no p-p-pro-” Jay tried to reply but they stopped as she gave them a kiss on the cheek. In the name of Salazar! Not even Gray has done this and she’s... they stopped themself from thinking anything more about Lily, instead they needed to just absorb this.
Jay couldn’t help but to smile stupidly as she walked away. No, they didn’t exactly like like her, but they definitely liked her, which now confused them on wether to like this mystery cute girl or the girl they met at the stairs- Nico... Jay then went ahead and sat on a chair nearby the middle of the room to watch whatever chaos unfold, they then took a sausage roll from the plate and ate it slowly as they watched the scene with a unamused expression.
Skipping to the present...
Of course this would happen. It was a tradition at any ball event apparently, Jay didn’t really interact in the Blossom fest last year but at a certain point Jay decided to just check it out and see how things were going and that’s when they say the fire- which then made them turn away immediately...
Jays eyes started to get watery, but they weren’t exactly too bothered by the smoke, they were in fact used to this kind of smoke. And oddly enough they kind of liked the dangerous smell (what a weirdo). Even though they were used to the smoke they naturally started to cough as their lungs couldn’t take it no more. Perhaps it was a really bad idea to not cover their mouth in the first place- after all breathing all of this too much can lead to lung disease. But who cares am I right?
They then hen took their glove off and covered their mouth, Jay then realized that their glove actually smelled nice, this little random realization distracted them from reality for a moment. Jay simply sat on the chair- like a psychopath. But hey, the fire wasn’t on their table, right? So why get up and help everyone else who’s going into chaos?
I’m back. Jay or Deplorable ooc. Owls open for threads.

"Yep. I'll take care of Iris." Teiki called, before murmuring something to Iris. Both Iris and Teiki started to started to leave towards wherever the Hospital area was.
"Hope you feel better, Iris." Astrid called as Iris hobbled with Teiki making sure she didn't fall. She hoped the two made it safely, before turning to the other two. Karilyna had declared that she was staying, while Phyllis hadn't yet responded. But Karilyna had already asked, so Astrid just nodded.
"Okay, so we know something's wrong in there. We just don't really know what, though." Astrid narrated her ideas aloud, so that she knew everyone was on the same page. She decided that she would take a more defensive stance, farther away from the door, so that she could decide whether someone was a threat before actually attacking them. She drew her wand, more for the intimidation than for any actual usefulness.
"So, yeah, I know this looks really odd, but it might help in this situation? I don't know know, I think I've seen this in running competitions and superhero movies." She laughed, a little panic bubbling, before moving over towards the wall. She had this somewhat elaborate plan of identifying the threat, and then jumping on them, and stopping them from going further, but as she thought about it more, she realized how unlikely it would actually work.
"Well, I guess I'll make a fool out of myself. Wouldn't be the first time." While she might have muttered the words, it would be easy for the other two girls to hear her. She snickered at herself, then waited.

Thora gulped. Half-giants? No wonder she had felt a little strange as one of the taller figures neared her earlier. This was not a good situation to be in, but honestly not surprising due to Hogwarts history of balls. Glancing around, the young girl breathed a sigh of relief as a professor--or a lady dressed rather nicely and masked--finally took charge of the situation, telling the students to put holes in the windows to allow oxygen and air to flow freely in and out. No doubt putting out the fire, though, was a main priority.
Thora whipped around as a familiar voice ripped through the air. Katrina? Why on earth was she yelling... Seriously? Was she asking if anyone knew Ferula? "I know Ferula!" Thora piped up. It wasn't exactly helpful, yelling it to empty space and the roaring fire, but at least she could help people if they heard her. Thora gripped her wand tighter until her knuckles turned white. There were too many people yelling, too many people trying to take control, too much going on. She would not lose control. Clearing her mind--the smoke must be beginning to get to the young girl--Thora cast another spell at the fire, following Bridget's example. "Extinguo!"

Elaine followed the dressed-up Headmaster's gaze as he looked over a group of students. She didn't get a good view of what the commotion was about, but even without a good look she understood that there was some sort of fistfight going on. Her first instinct was to move over and make sure that the children weren't seriously harming each other – which she would have done, had it not been for her present company. While the students could harm each other through rash or too thoughtless actions, there were few of them she'd consider loose enough to deliberately endanger their fellows. The man beside her, however, he was a threat. It wouldn't be wise to let him out of her sight, especially with all of the other Heads of House absent. Where the hell was Barnaby?
"Hogwarts has quite a flair for the dramatic, I'm afraid," she admitted lightly, letting the Ilvermorny Headmaster lead her where he pleased. It wouldn't be prudent to point out that the man himself seemed to have a tendency for the dramatic as well, and she chose to listen instead with a friendly but ultimately nondescript smile on her face.
Still, her dark eyes were looking elsewhere, half her attention held by the throng of students the wizard had pointed to. Wasn't one of them her Quidditch Captain? Where were the professors? The Hufflepuff men had wandered away from their former position and the Muggle Studies teacher she'd lost sight of after the woman had left their company. Surely there were others around who should get attracted by the noise. The Dark Arts Professors should have been in attendance and the new Herbology professor too appeared like a man to delight in gatherings like this.
When the man beside her made a motion to move away – was one of his students involved in this mess as well? – Elena tensed for a moment, but then the situation diffused itself by some miracle. She didn't like to see that wizards with his wand drawn. The shadows on her skin agreed, or were spurred on by her agitation more likely, the head of the half-eagle slipping down to rest on her left hand, which the folds of her dress made it easy to keep out of sight. She wasn't afraid of them attacking him, but of what they'd do after. Elena had never actually lost control of her protectors and she had no desire to find what happened if she did.
Then he began to complain about dangerous creatures, a lack of control, inclusiveness as he called it, and Elena almost laughed. He had never seen the sirens sing by the cliffs, never seen a werewolf under the moonlight, didn't understand magic, not truly. True magic could never be controlled; it was a wild thing, a terrifying thing, and all the more beautiful for it.
The Headmaster was a fool.
Her lips turned into a smirk with just an edge of teeth. The screech of the eagle echoed in her mind. Let it have him, not a great loss for the world. "I have spent considerable thought on the matter, believe me, Headmaster Plott. We are honoring too many of the wrong traditions in this school." And they did, celebrating Halloween instead of Samhain, Christmas instead of Yule. It was unexpectedly easy to twist the two truths together as if there was a direct connection.
"Have you ever seen a werewolf? What terrible destruction they can bring about." Oh, Alexandru would have loved this conversation. "I am interested in what solutions you have come to, experiencing Hogwarts from the perspective of an outsider. I myself have made the experience that the longer one is exposed to this school, the more lenient one becomes to its failings."
And then, without warning, or more precisely with more than enough warning but Elaine had chosen to ignore it in favor of what she perceived as the bigger problem, there was pandemonium.
Plott cast a Full Body-Bind Curse on the boy who had snatched a Ravenclaw First Year and was obviously a half-giant, and either the man was a complete idiot or he was playing more games with them than she'd thought.
Elaine really, really, would have liked @Solomon Lear to be in attendance.
She was moving instantly, pulling her cherry wand from her left sleeve, trusting the remaining Professors and the older students to be able to deal with the non-magical fire. Her dark eyes were on the retreading half-giant, who was still trying to abduct a student. One of their students. Oh no, he wouldn't. Not on her watch.
"Incarcerous!" she yelled, wand pointed at the half-giant.
The half-eagle screeched, audibly this time, but the sound was mostly lost in the ensuing turmoil.

Brielle had been lost in the crown of screaming students, all swimming and fighting their way through everyone to get out of the ballroom. Brielle was unsure of what to do, since she had been disconnected from her friends quite early on in the party. God knows where Grayson went with Maggie, and Aphrodite had seemed to drift away earlier. The only other person she could think of was Gem, her own bloody date that she had managed to lose sight of.
As she took Katrina's advice, she pressed a napkin to her mouth at attempt of keeping the smoke out of her lungs. She stood in the middle of the ballroom, her head spinning in all directions, unsure of where to go. There weren't many faces she recognized in the group of people she was huddled together with, and even if there we're someone she knew, she didn't know them well enough to cling onto.
She wondered where Gem and James where, wondering that if she found them she could perhaps make it out of this damn school dance alive. Though, the reality was that she was alone, she had no one to call for help, and no one was going to help her anyway.
As Brielle dashed towards the exit, she tripped on something. Though she couldn't seem to see the object that she had fallen over. It scuffed up her knee quite a bit, though she had experienced worse pains. With a shake of her head and an adjustment of her now ripped dress, she staggered her way towards the door once more and looked back into the crowd.
Just to double check if someone she knew was out there.

The Masquerade Ball
@Jack Warren left with Erin Ryan, they were headed to the hospital wing. @Quinn Healy left possibly with Rosie. Link
Rough, calloused hands grabbed hold of @Jorah Moussa's arm. His massive, meaty hands wrapped around the Ravenclaw's upper arm easily as he yanked him out of @Ruthie Greer's reach.
"Get away from him!
Ruthie shouted.
The part-giant demanded that Jorah come with him, the crones were hungry and any teen was enough. that was the story in any case -- this would be their blood-tithe.
"What's going on?!?"
"Taking you out of here," he grunted.
What did I do?"
The kid did nothing wrong. Before the part-giant could even give a non-committal answer his date, some overdone child trying to look older than she was (Ruthie). A single smack would shut the ***** down. He swatted and he missed as she rolled away. He tried again, she was damn fast for someone so small.
"Hey! Don't you touch her, you big freak!"
Jorah slipped from the part-giant's grip.
"Damn brat! Do as you're ¥£€₩ing told!"
He cussed, his long arms nearly gripped the nimble youth. Jorah scrambled away. The boy kicked out one of the legs of the large round table out with his leg. The table tipped to the side, some of the dishes clattered and fell onto the floor but others were propelled across the room. It did not matter, the ballroom was on fire. At least now Jorah was armed with a makeshift weapon -- the leg of the table.
Jorah came at the groin of the part giant, that at about... bat level. A ball was a ball, sure. Had it hit, he might have walked away with a broken broom shaft...
Ruthie drew her wand. "Tarantellagra!" She shouted as she pointed her wand at the part giant. He would not look so scary doing the jig. Her plan was good, had it not been for one small problem. The spell back-fired, she had mispronounced the spell Tarantallegra. Her feet would start dancing (Effect: evasion reduced to 0, cannot pursue or flee; breaks upon damage) rather than the part giant's.
Ruthie was a dancing machine but she was also helpless at this moment, unable to avoid the next onslaught which might put her down. Thinking fast, @Alan Noble would dash across the room to try to help her. It was of course chaotic. The densely filled, enclosed space was the perfect trap for these students. While powerful, they were also limited by the presence of their peers. A single misstep. A single misfire... and they would be putting down their own.
The flask of vodka was lit.
"GET DOWN!" Professor @Maya Galim shouted.
There was nowhere to run, the door was blocked by the other giant. The doors sealed, the massive form of the part-giant terrorist in the way. He was laughing at the scene but obviously agitated. "Dammit you @$$hole, they are half you're size!"
"You ****ing try it ****!"
He complained as he tried to defend himself from the students that had now started fighting back.
Nobody Panic!
@George Henry declared. Such soothing words would not change the state of things. That is like saying 'breathe' to a woman in labor or 'calm down' to an irate customer. all it did was escalate things. And that was all that it did here. Most of the students were panicking. Why wouldn't they? They were in danger. They were probably all going to burn to death, some before they even got their first kiss.
George may be a lot of things, not the greatest friend being among them, but he was still a friend. There was something about Hufflepuffs, where their true strength is best displayed when a friend is in need. George Henry was no exception to this rule, the Sorting Hat chose well. The true nature of the young boy's spirit revealed when he broke away from @Mari Haynes and announced
"Stay here, I've got to go get my friend!"
Friend. Jake was his friend.
George would rush in Jake's general direction just as @Xailah Alptraum jumped the part giant that was blocking the door. That door he was standing in front of was the only means of escape for the students. Well, her angry cat came at him first.
@Xailah Alptraum would follow. She looked as crazy as she actually was.
@Make-shift martial weapon. Strength-based (2 Strength).
Equation: 20 * 2.5 = 50 damage.
Part giant takes 20% less damage.
40 damage done.
Part Giant Health: 1500 - 40 damage = 1460
"Remember me? Lets fucking tango."
The weird Gryffindor hissed. The part giant tried to buck the girl off of him.
"ARAGH!" He shouted as he reached behind himself and thrashed.
These two giants were a lot more cautious last time. What was different this time? Were they desperate? If they were, why didn't they pluck one of the late-comers before they arrived or one of the students that snuck out early. they had other options so why were they doing this?
She would not have time to ponder this. She was about to land on something hard.
Bridget Collins, the poor girl was not ready for this. Nobody ever was. A randomly flying goth girl.
@Alexx Séverin would be drawn into their fight rather than the make-out session the world has been saved from between herself and Simon Bellanger. That romance would never work out anyways, he was ugh... American.
The Slytherin shouted the incantation. [Effect: AOE, attacks have a 20% chance of auto-missing. All posts after the present until something is cast that would remove the smokescreen effect. Effects everyone.
A thick, dark, rolling fog would carpet the dance floor and quickly rise. The actual smoke from the the fire, that woodsy scent mingled with the magical haze and darkened the ballroom. @George Henry would find himself ensconced in darkness as he blindly searched for his friend.
Alexx would try to find the part giant in the darkness, her tiny fist balled up and she would try to deck the monstrous youth.
@Leah Isbell fled the flames, letting out a shout."Adlai! We need to get out of here! What do we do?" The girl needed some sort of direction. This was a particularly terrible night for the young girl. She had the hardest time making new friends and then once she finally found someone that was interested in talking back she got decked by the guy's incredibly jealous... what was she to him anyways? Well, whatever as going on between them, it was pretty weird and she best stay out of it.
“Find the exit!”
@Adlai Rod announced the obvious. They needed to get out of this dangerous situation, they were outmatched, even if they outnumbered these two giants. They were just kids and this was just a dance. None of them were prepared for this to turn into a war zone but it did.
“It must be this way, this come on!”
Adlai instructed, pointing out the direction of the door. Through the chaos she would not know that the exit was blocked. Smoke as well as the magical fog had now started to fill the great space. It was stuff, hot. It was getting hard to breathe.
@Jake Morris, presently dubbed Pumpkin Boy screamed. A flash of heat and light came over the youth. This is what created childhood traumas and for this stunted youth he could either get up and fight or curl up and die. For him it was the later. Something happens in these terrible moments, something that makes some people freeze. Some people like Jake. The brain keeps moving but the limbs turn to lead. So heavy, so stiff, so unyielding. Did the boy even know that he screamed?
The sounds of his screams would be how @George Henry would find the terrified boy. Echolocation for humans.
Some fight. Some fight. Some ...retract. In a previous life Jake Morris might have been a turtle. He withdrew into his stronghold, a stronghold made of incredibly flammable orange colored cloth. He would not be able to see when someone came running in his general direction (no evasion). In this case, @Heather Ruby stumbled over Jake's curled up form on the floor, mistakenly kicking the poor boy in the buttox. (Sorry, you are just getting abused here today little buddy).
The fire coupled with the darkness resulted in utter chaos for the entire party. @Lark Flaer parted the company of her friends Elzabeth Gillan and @Serena Davies. Elzabeth would grab onto Serena's hand, it was better to stay together. They could fight together. They could run together. If worse came to worst, they could die together.
"I'm not going to freaking leave you here!
Lark was not willing to stay behind with the girls. Lark's boyfriend was her priority when it came down to it. She needed to find him and escape. It was not that she wanted her friends to be hurt, she just had her priorities. They were not that different from the priorities of the average teenage girl. Lark would pull herself away. Hopefully her friends would be OK. They would be OK, right? She doused her gown in punch. The sickly sweet stink was numbing.
"Dale! DALE!"
Lark called into the darkness. She would wander past @River Dewlight who was drawn in the direction of the disaster as opposed to Lark's opposing path through the hazy space. Like passing ships on this Halloween night.
She would eventually find Dale. Dale was not going to run away with her, he needed to stay. It was like going away to war.
"Lark! Jesus Lark, listen you gotta get outta here!"
Just her. Not us. He had no intentions of running away, he planned to stay here and fight.
"Don't worry about me... I'm going to try to help out a bit."
A sock wand.
"Yet another party ruined by fire"
@Dale Kurt was going to try and help. Because of him, Lark would stay. How could she do anything besides? She couldn't leave him. She would not leave him.
@Dymphna Teague would pull herself away from @Max Avery and @Phaedra Staverou, she was drawn to the dangerous disaster. She would be able to hardly see the bloody battle between Xailah and the part giant as she was flung off and Alexx plunged the skirmish into darkness. Dymphna would not target that part giant, rather she would try to save Jorah. Xailah might be a bit mussed up but she was going to make it. She was going to survive.
Dymphna would shout “Orchideous!”
A flash of pink would erupt from the tip of her wand. Not the one that would conjure a bouquet, but the jinx. A transfiguration spell with the intention of turning the opponent into a bush. A clever, useful spell had it been used with a bit of warning: do not touch the bush.
Close enough.
Macho man @Hugh Lowe would give the scared Slytherin some reassurance.
"Don't be afraid Nico. You're fast, and I am strong. Lets get you out of here."
At least she can run well. That was a skill, and he aptly pointed it out.
"Looks like most of these nutjobs have already began attacking these giants. Door's free to break through again."
It was a good idea, give people a means to escape. He did not tell the students to distract the part-giants. It was a suicide mission really, those giants were not only bigger than them but they were also significantly stronger as well. Most of the students were either paralyzed with fear, ready for these terrorists to burn them alive or ready to die as they jumped face-first into danger. There was no stopping stupidity or the call of the void, but he could make their likely sacrifice not be in vain.
"I'll get the door. C'mon!"
Hugh declared as he rushed the ballroom door. He would have to make his way around the Gryffindor Prefect @Griseldis Edelhardt as she shouted...
"Extinguo!"
@Griseldis Edelhardt called out through the darkness, the first to try to save the boy.
"Chris, wait!"
@Illowy Magnard called after the foolhardy, reckless boy as he disappeared into the darkness. Bits of fire illuminated the dense smoke and magical fog, she did the only thing she could. She tried to make his passage safe as she watched the torchlight wobble in the haze.
"Extinguo!" She cried out.
Reid was not going to let the Gryffindor take all the glory and do this alone.
"I'm going to try and open that door!"
@Reid Kovacs announced as he sprinted behind Hugh. Hugh's stride was about double Reids but Reid was fast. He would catch up to the part giant. They were going to work together, release the trapped students and save the day. Well, that would be the ideal result.
@Max Avery would run up behind Griseldis, his foot would kick a table in much like Jorah had already to get a makeshift weapon. Several plates, a few dinner rolls, some shrimp cocktail and a chocolate milkshake would be made airborne. It was as if a garbage truck had dumped their contents on @Serena Bowen's head.
Serena's hair hardly mattered, nor did her dress. The only thing that mattered right now was winning surviving. he would ide behind his barrier of simple wood. It was not much but it protected his soft, tender, supple flesh far better than his suit-jacket and pants did.
"Extinguo!"
Max Avery declared as he tried to smother the fire before it spread any further.
Their (Reid and Hugh's) shoulders would crash into the door, the hardwood would groan and then crack. Through their combined power the door would break. Splinters would fan outward into the hall where a few girls were dealing with their woozy friend as the boy exploded through the door. The fresh cool air a welcome relief. Like a chimney overfilled with smoke, from the door a cloud of smoke would belch into the hall as the part giant Gryffindor and human Hufflepuff former Prefects stumbled into the hall.
Unfortunately, Thora was in the way. Like a pair of stampeding, awkward teens they would run down the poor Slytherin where she stood.
Back in the ballroom, all was not yet well as the students still had a fire to contend with, an attempted kidnapping and of course a pair of part giants on a rampage.
"Extinguo!" Bridget Collins shouted as she aimed her spell at the already extinguished Jürgen Hess. There was no way to know he was out, not for certain. She simply aimed where she last saw the frantically running and screaming youth.
"My- my Dad taught me something... uh- what was it? Fire needs.... fuel... oxygen and.... heat."
James recalled. He was right of course, a fire needs fuel, otherwise it would simply die.
"We need to get the decorations away from the blaze and make sure it's only contained to area surrounded by stone floor... The Punch Table. The individual glasses won't be enough to extinguish the fire, but the entire table, it might just be enough to smother the flames if we upturn the whole thing. Then kids can walk over it and get to safety..."
He reasoned before he tried to grab Charlotte's hand and pull her with him through the smoke and chaos. The plan was simple and logical - make it harder for the disaster to spread. There were several students attempting to fight the blaze but the blaze kept on inching outward, taking with it linen table clothes and combustible decor. It was all fuel.
"Extinguo!" another student shouted. They were still fighting the good fight.
For good measure @Thora Larkston pulled out her wand and tried to extinguish the fire as well.
"Extinguo!"
She cried.
"Extinguo!"
@Katrina Walker repeated the same word shouted by so many others.
@Katrina Walker shouted, calling for additional aide. They were going to need it now.
Professor @Maya Galim would attempt to extinguish the newly resurrected fire.

"Extinguo!"
She had likely developed a fear of both darkness and fire. Both had nearly taken her during her first year in Hogwarts. It was sudden, much like this but by now hopefully she would have started to see the signs. The signs that disaster would come. That death was reaching out to her. Chasing her,
@Bridget Collins tried to cast the extinguishing charm a second time. Things would not go well this time, rather than make the fires better, it made things so much worse.
"Extinguo!" She shouted, undoing the good she had previously done an a third pillar of fire resurfaced.
@Phaedra Stavrou would draw her wand. A bit of walnut wood and phoenix feather. Her tiny staff of power. Link to her potential. She would extend her wand and with a bit of flourish scream
"Extinguo!"
Yet another voice, this one belonging to River Dewlight called out.
She commanded. They were so close. They needed to push back the fire.
This was just too much for some. @Eri Windstone passed out, with a thud she would fall onto the floor. Nobody would see her, she was on the floor in a dark, smoke-filled room.
The fire was bad. Real bad. Eri was probably going to die.
The panicking students would simply step over the fallen girl.
@Lamik Fillestar had a number of options. He could curl up and hide like instinct told Jake Morris. He could try to fight, like Saskia Nicholson. He could try to run. He decided to run with his second choice girl, beckoning Jake to follow.
"JAKE! OVER HERE! NOW!"
Lamik called out into the darkness.
It would take Heather a few moments to get her bearings once she was tripped up by a shivering pumpkin.
"GET UP! WE NEED TO MOVE!"
@Heather Ruby shouted at the unfortunate, terrified first-year @Jake Morris.
"HEATHER?! HEATHER?!"
Her name was also being called from the darkness, through the chaos. It was her friend @Andrew Vance who had come looking for her. Mostly blind, she was at no particular disadvantage here in the smoke-filled room. In fact, she might even be used to it comparatively. They would find each other in this war zone.
@George Henry would find the pumpkin, just the quavering pumpkin in the middle of the dance floor. He knew that Jake was hidden inside, like a wild animal during a house fire. Find a closet to feel safe and die in the corner.
"Jake! Don't panic, everything's going to be alright. They're extinguishing it, but we have to move! Come on!"
So many voices...
George would reach inside the pumpkin and try to grab Jake's hand.
"Don't worry, lady, I'll get him up!"
George stated as Heather ran off with her date, Andrew. they were not running away, they were simply regrouping. A plan was forged between the two of them, using her cane and glasses to make a spear to thrust at the part giant.
"Georgie"
George was the best thing Jake had likely seen all day, not that he could see much through the smoke and his own tears. But then there was @Lamik Fillestar, Jake could remember hearing his voice. He was supposed to find Lamik.
"Lamik...!"
George would feel Jake's legs wobble as he hoarsely called out the student's name. Who knew that today George was going to play the role of hero.
Lamik was needed elsewhere as well. As Jake called out to Lamik, @James McMurtie had found himself alongside both @Lamike Fillestar and @Serena Towers. Jake was going to be okay, probably.
"PEOPLE THAT KNOW HOW TO CAST HEALING SPELLS OR BANDAGING SPELLS COME OVER HERE TO HELP EVERYONE THAT NEEDS HELP!"
A voice (@Katrina Walker) shouted out an instruction.
Reid and Hugh had already broken down the door, letting the smoke billow into the hallway. The air was keeping the flames that were almost nearly smothered alive. They just needed to finish clearing the way. One more fire to put out.
"LAMIK, do you think you could help me and Charlotte upturn this table onto the fire? It could smother some of it and create a path!"
A simple plan, the table was big. Perhaps too big and heavy for him (James) to lift alone. Perhaps with help, he would be able to flip the table over with a mighty heave.
He turned to @Serena Towers as well, she was also trying to extinguish the flames.
"Hey, can you help us turn this table over? I think we might be able to extinguish more of the fire if we smother it..."
He explained. Still disoriented with the thrum of dissonant chaos and wands in hand, James would move on. James was attracting others to help.
"James! Tell me what to do!"
The Ravenclaw @Elzabeth Gillan begged.
"Elz! Hey! You ever heard of a firebreak before? Here's the thing. All these kids casting the extinguishing charm on the fire isn't going to work unless we're smart about it. We need to starve the fire of fuel and back it into a single area so that we can control it. Anything flammable that's sitting on the edge of the blaze is just going to encourage it to spread. Get a bunch of kids together and move anything that'll fuel the fire as far away as possible, we want to create sort of a trench where there's only stone. If there's something you can't move... burn it. It may sound kinda counter intuitive but we want the blaze to starve itself out..."
A lengthy explanation ensued.
Rather than flip the table with the assistance of a few other students the young Ravenclaw had another plan. He along with @Serena Davies started moving around the furniture that was nearest the mostly dead flames.
"You and your friend take that side, I'll start taking this side. Anyone you see casting on the fire, see if they can either cast in a circle directly around the blaze or try and levitate anything that could potentially cause the fire to spread up and away from the perimeter... we want to surround this thing and starve it out! Lamik! Do you know the extinguishing charm? Could you help us to start making this firebreak? Charlotte, you're strong, wanna help me move this stuff out of the way...?"
@Gem Stuart would also try to help. He would start moving furniture away, blinded by the dense smoke. It was hot, the furniture was heavy. It was a lot. He needed to get out.
Gem would rush the door.
@Katrina Walker would continue to try to direct people as she shouted.
"MOVE EVERYTHING THAT YOU CAN AWAY FROM THE FIRE AS YOU COME OVER HERE!"
"James, J- what the -"
James was not near Gem. Gem was on his own. But he would find his way back to James. They already acted, one action per round and all that. So the chairs that were blindly thrown would fail to breech the great windows. Maybe they even bounced back at them, too feeble to adequately hurl the furniture.
"LISTEN EVERYONE! IF YOU'RE NOT DOING SOMETHING TO STOP THE FIRE. THEN WE NEED TO DEAL WITH THE SMOKE. FOLLOW MY LEAD!"
Perhaps others would hear James' rallying cry.
Gem tried, same deal considering he also charged at the door.
"Tarantellagra!" @Dale Kurt shouted. He made an error in pronunciation. The spell simply backfired. The proper use of the word Tarantallegra, but he enunciated the word wrong. His feet would feel compelled to dance. (Effect: evasion reduced to 0, cannot pursue or flee; breaks upon damage).
@Dale Kurt's spell cast backfired and he was now the Lord of the Dance.
@Lark Flair was behind him, holding onto his shirt. There was not much that she could do.
Professor @Maya Galim removed her shoes. Barefoot in the middle of a ballroom that was on fire. She probably had better ideas. However she now had a pair of projectiles, but this was her second action. She would chuck her shoes, the two of them and what would happen?
Well, it would automatically fail in the worst way possible. The first shoe would hit the window and then bounce off failing to break the great panes of glass and then ricochet back at an unsuspecting student. (No stats, so 20's).
The second shoe would make a metallic ping sound before it bounced back like a poorly weighted Chinese throwing star and assail...
It wasn't.
"Flipendo!"
@Dan Palmer shouted. His vengeance for a ruined first date, a table to the face.
"EVERYONE BACK AWAY FROM THE FLAME!"
@Christopher Madson shouted as he rushed the part giant from the side and thrust his torch into the side of the part giant.
"Argh! get away from him!"
The boy shouted as he tried to drive off the giant.
Others were coming to Jorah's aid as well. @Adam Harrington, academically smarter than street smart would run as close to danger as humanly possible and draw his wand.
"Jorah! ...Hey! Jorah! I'm here to help!"
He did not cast a spell, he just announced he was going to. Well, he was going to try. If nothing else, he could serve as excellent fodder. The part giant would swipe his hand and attempt to strike both Jorah and Adam with the back of his hand.
Red sparks would shoot from the tip of his wand. It was incredibly dark in the hall, choked up with smoke.
Determined to do more, as the pair of boys were sent flying Professor @Maya Gallim would try to do some good. The window refused to shatter, it was likely magically reinforced in some way. It would be prudent to blame the Professor of Runes. She would warn the students that the giants would not be affected by magic, a misconception really. It was not that the giants were immune to magic, they were just resistant to the magic. They were resistant to most damages in fact.
Maya would try to break up some chairs legs and make spears.
Heather Ruby and Andrew Vance, armed with a pointy stick would charge back into the smoke towards the part giant.
"For that matter where is our fearless Headmaster??" Genevieve Davis (dNPC) complained. Where was he indeed.
"Probably hiding," Hunter replied. A good guess, but he was wrong. Lazarrus was the Headmaster that was here. Professor Lear was the one that was absent.
The flames had caught Vi's dress. A rush of heat, the smell of polyester burning. They would pat out the fire before it spread to her skin.
Professor @Maya Galim would sneak up behind the giant blocking the exit that Reid and Hugh had broken down. In fact only mere feet away they would piled on top of some poor Slytherin girl (Thora). As there was one action per round, this would automatically auto-fail. Perhaps it was the thick fog, the astringent smoke that burned her eyes. She got turned around.
Spear in hand, she thrust into the darkness and she hit something solid.
She could not take it anymore. It was incredibly dangerous, she could not get a clear shot with all of the students in the way but things were quickly going from bad to worse. @Elaine Pendrast would pull her wand from the folds of her dress.
"Incarcerous!"
She shouted the word of power and commanded steadfast compliance.
(Effect: Transmutation spell, conjures ropes and binds a chosen target.)
@Gem Stuart was still trying to help, mostly the girls. Moving furniture and asking about wounds. Directing some help his way. @James McMurtie was trying to figure out what was going on and help his friend breathe a bit better. It would be important to know, but they have to survive the dance first.
"I think most people are starting to get the fire under control. I think what we need to focus on now is an escape route... I don't think it's going to help us much to keep mindlessly smashing against the locked door... Lark, it's brilliant to see you safe by the way, did you see any professors when you were over the other side of the room? It's like they deliberately drained this place of adult supervision I swear. Gem, when you were at the door... what did you actually see? I heard people talking about giants, but how many are we talking and what are they doing? Did they trap themselves inside the room with us? Here's the thing... unless they have some kind of death wish, I reckon these guys have an plan to get themselves out of here... or at least they don't actually want bring this whole place down on top of their heads... We need to figure out exactly what it is they're trying to do."
"IF YOU ARE STRUGGLING BREATHING, USE A NAPKIN TO KEEP THE SMOKE OUT OF YOUR MOUTH."
@Katrina Walker shouted after she monitored James due dilligence.
"We need to pull any chairs from the fire to keep it from spreading farther. And tell everyone to meet over here, we need somewhere to help people."
Not everyone was listening, or reacting. Oddly enough @Jane Victoria was shamelessly sitting down in a chair, enjoying themselves. No concern apparent. No heroics. Just sitting there, waiting for everything to pass.
Like a hailstorm, @Eris Fawley was attacked by a barrage of plates and bits of food. Most of the food was half eaten, however the cups were still partially full and the plates were in most cases filled with food. It was like being attacked by a wet lunch bag.Random Table Contents Launched at Random User. Roll: 90. @Eris Fawley

Heather Ruby would attempt to throw what she could find on hand. It was not much, but a punch glass. She would hurl the glass at the part-giant.Ruthie Greer's Tarantallegra back-fired because she mispronounced the spell.
Personal Notes: Evasion: 4 (Now 0). Accuracy: 6
The punch glass sailed over the rampaging part giant's shoulder. The crystal glass would hit the far wall and shatter. Shards of glass shattered onto the floor looking like incredibly dangerous jewels that now littered the floor.@Heather Ruby: Attack (no trunk) + 1d20 (roll 18)
Evasion: 15 + 8
Ruthie was a dancing machine but she was also helpless at this moment, unable to avoid the next onslaught which might put her down. Thinking fast, @Alan Noble would dash across the room to try to help her. It was of course chaotic. The densely filled, enclosed space was the perfect trap for these students. While powerful, they were also limited by the presence of their peers. A single misstep. A single misfire... and they would be putting down their own.
The flask of vodka was lit.
WOOSH!
The angry cat missed the part giant, it's fit-like rage would be focused on the floral arrangement in the center of a perfectly innocent table. The flowers would be shredded by Schrödinger's razor-sharp claws. Those dahlias would never assail an innocent child again. What the heck.
Schrödinger attacks: 8

@Xailah Alptraum would follow. She looked as crazy as she actually was.
Her 'claws' would dig into the part giant's back. Long, thin, metal bits would dig into his suit jacket and through his dress shift. The bits of metal would cut into his flesh as she tightened her grip. It was as if she had plunged a set of tiny meathooks into the part giant.Xailah Alptraum attempts to attack the part giant.

The weird Gryffindor hissed. The part giant tried to buck the girl off of him.

Nobody would ever see it, but for a brief moment the part giant would temporarily be changed into a rose bush. (Effect: Turned into a bush, 0 evasion however when hit they would transform back to their base form.) So when a shoe that was thrown by Evanore Fairclay (dNPC), the shoe was lobbed at the part-giant and he had nowhere to go. The American was not particularly powerful, her pump would smack the part giant in his bushy... uh... bush?20% chance to auto-miss. Roll: 92

Close enough.
@Nico Shymane would start to break down. This was just too much for the prefect. She latched onto @Hugh Lowe. These part giants were not even adults, but they were incredibly powerful. It was terrifying. There was a screaming boy (Jürgen Hess) who was set ablaze and running around in large, wide circles. He tried to -stop- -drop- and -roll-, spreading the fire to other tables and linens. He looked like an erratic firefly as he dashed about. There was the fight, more than one. There was her gnawing hunger that would never go away.Damage Done. Giving the Americans 7.5's in their stats for the sake of inclusion.
Part Giant Health: 1445 - 188 = 1257
Everything just needed to slow down. The fire was spreading... there was one main fire that had naturally spread. Hess who was ablaze and had spread it trying to extinguish himself to areas adjacent. 3 Fires in total

She was not helping Chris, he would feel a chilly rush come over him as he blindly searched for the heart of the battle.

@James McMurtrie would feel an icy rush of cold air. Unharmed, his hair was merely now standing on end and wildly styled. Little did he know that he would be so unusually styled for the duration of his big moment as he attempted to orchestrate a plan of survival with the other students and make him stand out as a leader. The girl with him, @Charlotte Marie Mahr would not see it of course in the darkness and obscurity.
@Saskia Nicholson's wand was pointed at the flames that remained and she expertly extinguished one of the raging bonfires. One more fire, plus the immolated youth still remained.
Come on!"

The door was already broken open. It was a useless endeavor. While his heroic act might have been wasted, to add insult to injury Gem crashed into a wall, lost in the smoke.20% chance to miss the already broken down door. Roll: 11

It was not that the giants were immune to magic, they were just resistant to the magic. They were resistant to most damages in fact.

Heather Ruby and Andrew Vance, armed with a pointy stick would charge back into the smoke towards the part giant.

The Masquerade Ball
The raging fire was all over finally people were actually doing something. Then the flames erupted again. If the part-giants had not done enough smoke filled the air. Katrina was overcome by a horrendous coughing fit, to the point that she coughed up a bit of blood. He side was bent over as she hacked. She held the napkin to her face an backed away from the mess. A blinding flash of Red Sparks pierced the smoky room and she struggled to see. She almost stumbled over a girl and looked down. The gruesome sight almost made Katrina vomit. @Dymphna Teague lay in a sickening amount of blood.
"SOMEBODY, OVER HERE!!!!" a voice called out that they could do Ferula, it was Thora, "THORA, @Thora Larkston OVER HERE!! WE NEED YOUR HELP!" Katrina put all of her misgivings behind her and asked for help. The flames leaped threateningly close. Nightmares flooded her mind, her parents had died last year in a house fire. Katrina shook her head and refocused with the emergency. There was too many people that needed help and not enough time. If only she knew Ferula.
Katrina thought about what she needed to do next, people were certain to work on the fire first. People still needed help, bandages, and to escape. Maybe people could leave via the window? If they could smash one enough.
"WE NEED TO STICK TOGETHER! IF WE WANT TO ESCAPE HERE ALIVE. EVERYBODY COME OVER HERE, THE MORE PEOPLE HERE, THE SAFER IT IS." Katrina coughed again. Now she bent down over Dymphna.
"You are going to be alright. This is going to hurt but you will be better." Katrina closed her eyes and pulled the spear out. Katrina took a handful of napkins and pushed on the wound to stop the bleeding. It didn't seem to have pierced anything severe but Katrina was scared. She swallowed bile that had rose in her throat and pushed harder. She just needed to staunch the wound.

Bleed I
Health: 190
There was too much going on for her to notice everything. Her spell seemed to work for only a moment but then Professor Galim’s words echoed in her ears - spells wouldn’t work on them! Of course, she should have known but who would blame the thirteen year old for her lack of knowledge? Later on, after the disaster was over, she likely would blame herself in some capacity. She’d read up on other breeds outside of Veela but at the time, giants hadn’t seemed so important.
Dymphna didn’t have time for regret now. The big lug practically threw her friends [@Jorah Moussa and @Adam Harringtom] but the crack she heard wasn’t from their fall, but from the door being splintered into by @Reid Kovacs and @Hugh Lowe. There was some success being made! There were other students all around, some going straight for the half-giants too, with handmade spears? She flashed @Ruthie Greer a hopeful smile, wand still clenched in her fist despite spells not being the answer. Her fellow students were a creative bunch, not to mention @Maya Galim and @Elaine Pendrast who knew just what to do in their current situation - had they been in combat before?
About to speak, possibly to say something to Ruthie about checking on the boys while the Professors took on the giants, Dymphna was thrown forward. Looking down, something was sticking out of her body. There was an ache like fire licking her wound - was she on fire? - and panic started to set in as she fell. There was a scream that she didn’t recognize - her own? What in Merlin’s name was happening?! She couldn’t see (eyes closed/red sparks/smoke). There were voices all around her [@Katrina Walker and @Thora Larkston] but she couldn’t focus. Soon after, more pain, more blood and everything went dark.
