✩ LOOKISM ✩

Lear is a slender boy, quite tall for his age. His skin is pale, almost porcelain like, and contrasts sharply with his black hair curling around his face. Everything about the way he presents himself is purposeful. It's not out of vanity, it’s discipline. It's reflection of the way he’s been taught to present himself: polished, controlled and impeccable.

His eyes, the same dark grey as his parents’, are striking and sharp. There’s something quietly intense about him, his gaze searching and analyzing. Most of the time, his face is unreadable- a calm mask devoid of any deeper emotions, but it isn't hollow. If you pay enough attention you can catch an annoyed brow, or a little self satisfied smirk when something goes his way.
It's hard to get him to open up, but when he does, it's quite easy to tell that he cares a lot, and deeply.

Lear dresses with precision and purpose. He has been taught to present himself well, like a member of a family of their status, and somewhere along the line he learned to enjoy it. He pays attention to the way his robes fit on him, he doesn't stray from adding simple accessories like silver cufflings, or a few rings. It's never anything flashy but always intentional and fitting.

✩ PERSONALITY ✩
Reducio
Lear is a calm and reserved boy, almost to the point of seeming indifferent at first glance. His expression is typically unreadable, his face a careful blank canvas shaped by years of measured words and silent expectations. His parents taught him early on that every word, every reaction, could reflect on the family name- so he learned to think before speaking, to consider before reacting.

He carries a no-nonsense air about him; he doesn’t indulge in small talk or seek out idle conversation, and he rarely makes the first move in social situations. But when spoken to, he listens- truly listens- and answers with quiet clarity. There’s a quiet intelligence to him, the kind that doesn’t need to prove itself out loud.

Driven by a sharp mind and unrelenting ambition, Lear holds himself to the highest standards- especially when it comes to academics. He’s his own harshest critic, and while he rarely shows anger outwardly, disappointment in himself can leave him quietly brooding for days.
Still, beneath the polished surface and composed demeanor, the boy inside is a much softer presence. He won't open up easily, but when he considers you his safe person, he would do anything for you.

✩ HISTORY ✩
Reducio
Born on December 6th of 2012 Lear comes from a pure blood family- respected and influential. His parents, Cassius and Elira Thornwood, are part of the old wizarding elite-wealthy enough to never work a day in their lives, living instead off of generations of accumulated gold and connections.

Lear was not a planned child, his parents have already had their perfect son 10 years before him. Jean is a prodigy who sailed through Hogwarts as a Slytherin prefect and now holds a fast-rising position in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. His parents were loving towards Lear but they also made it painfully clear that he had to be as good as his brother, but to never outshine him. Every achievement was met with a measured nod and a reminder of Jean’s accomplishments at the same age.

Lear grew up in a big manor filled with enchanted heirlooms, disapproving portraits, and his parents' influential acquaintances, and was forced to live up to his family's good name and to keep up proper appearances.

His family relations aren't easy. Even though his parents had never been cruel to him, Lear was never truly close to them. They had their own lives- too focused on social politics and fawning over Jean to take the time to truly know Lear as a person. He was never neglected, they always paid plenty of attention to him. But still, he often felt more like a pet project than a child. It was as if he existed only in the role of son, not as an independent being.

He was taught how to present himself, how to make a good impression on people of importance. But those lessons always came with a clear message- he had an image to uphold. Every reminder, every piece of advice, served to remind him that he was an extension of their reputation- not someone with his own identity.

Jean and Lear had never been close. Jean had never quite forgiven him for being born- stripping him of the comfortable privilege of being an only child, the center of attention. And Lear, in turn, began to resent Jean for casting a shadow so large he could never step out of it.

He knew that, in their parents’ eyes, he would always be an imitation. He could either follow Jean’s path, trying to replicate his success and charm, or he could be labeled a disappointment. Sometimes, Lear already felt like one.

First Instance of Magic: It happened at one of their family's social gatherings. All of the Thornwood family's acquaintances were gathered- all influential and of high regard.
When during the dinner a 6 year old Lear knocked over his glass of water and spilled it all over the table he could immediately feel his father's scolding gaze on him. The conversation at the table quieted down, as his father cleaned the table with a quick movement of his wand. His mother immediately tried to distract their guests with conversation but Lear could hear Jean's cynical snort, and his condescending gaze.
Lear felt like he was going to boil over- he was so embarrassed and he knew that his parents were disappointment in him now, but of it all his brother's smirk was the worst. Jean's eyes felt like a physical weight on him, it felt as if it was crushing him.
Lear didn’t speak. He didn’t frown. He simply stared at his own plate and then every glass on the table split cleanly down the middle. No shattering. No flying shards. Just sharp, perfect cracks.
Overhead, the chandelier flickered once and steadied.

✩ CONCEPT ✩
Lear Woodthorne is a composed, intelligent, and quietly intense boy from a prestigious pure-blood family. His is shaped by his past- carries himself with precision, and takes care in how he presents himself. Though he may come across as distant or aloof, Lear is a thoughtful boy. When he cares he cares deeply, even though he may not show it loudly. It's all hidden in quiet gestures. He doesn't need to be noticed, but he refuses to be nobody. He will achieve his goals, even if just to prove to himself that he is capable of doing so. He may seem cold at first but beneath the surface, there’s a quiet warmth and sensitivity he keeps well hidden and only visible to those patient enough to look.
