Chapter 1

Ah suburbia, a place where everyone knows everyone. Lovely fresh green grass, beautiful manicured lawns as far as the eye can see. White picket fences line the street giving an almost utopia vibe. The homes dwelling this nearly utopia little town are just as perfect lining each side of the street. Each home is a two story dwelling with four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large kitchen/dining room and a nearly equally large family room.

At the end of the street before you get into the actual town there is a huge park; this park is really very special as it was built in memory of the man who built this town to begin with. Vince Valerium, he loved only a few things in life; his family and dogs being among them. After building this town so he and his wife could have a safe place to raise their children, he died. While his wife Valerie age thirty at the time was going through his things she found plans he'd made for a park. With these plans in hand she had the park built to his specifications and called it Vincent Park.

Vincent Park in itself is a sight to see, this park is made up of multiple smaller parks. The great thing about all these parks is that there was no issue with money so basically at any of these parks; if you can dream it you will see it there. Starting the parks entrance inside a large old style building is where various vendors made all of their best meals; each trying to out shine the other. This building also held several tables with outside seating as well so it was much like a café' in a sense. A park on either side of the building is what any spectator would see while enjoying any one of the vendors amazing meals; to the right sits the baby/toddler park complete with baby swings and little tykes jungle gyms, and sand pits just to name a few. There was even on site baby sitters so mom's and dad's could have time in the park to themselves or if mom was here by herself she could enjoy yoga in the park. The kiddie park also has very special bathrooms meant to promote potty training for the little ones not to mention a unique room for mom's with babies to breast feed. To the left of the vendor's café is the dog park here you will fire hydrants of various sizes, poop bag trees and even an old time ice cream trolley made into a dog treat cart. These treats are all home made and made fresh every morning. The dog park is basically a huge, wide open field specified places for them to dig, play catch and all sorts of doggie fun.

From the doors of the vendor café on both sides a spectator or park goer has a lovely wide three person trail they could walk to get to any of the parks as it simply circles the entire park. While foot paths make it possible to walk in between them as well as tell them a part if the change in scenery didn't do the trick. The park in it's entirety ended up being a circle, there was a reason for this as well…Vince referred to marriage and life as a circle…no real beginning or end. The next park spectators would see is one for children slightly older than toddlers with bigger jungle gyms, slides and even a few chess boards.

Then of course the next park up to bat is for the teenagers; now Vince's son and daughter dipped their fingers in on the idea train on this while the construction was under way. His son; Val at the time he was age fourteen and daughter; Vicky at the time she was thirteen only got to put one thing into the park they thought everyone would enjoy. Val who enjoyed music from the time he was little had a pavilion put up where live music always plays. Now Vicky the sports nut knew she couldn't ask for a sports annex that would just be too much. So instead she had a skate board park slightly off the park built. The rest of the park looked like a normal park.

Now the next park that was made; it was made for the elderly people. This park was made to be relaxing; it has a beautiful pond for fishing, nice cushy benches where people can sit and talk for hours on end. There are places for them to play all sorts of games like bridge, they can even have shuffleboard tournaments or use the trail to just walk around.

Even though the park is at the end of the street does not mean that is the end of the road for this lovely suburban town. Nope take the road around the corner, behind the houses a piece or two you will be sure to find various business's all of which are mom and pop shops of all sorts.

The dream of Vince Vallerium upon creating this town was to create a place where everyone would feel safe and live like one big happy family. No one really knows why he was so adamant about this; not even his wife but she supported him all the way until the day he died very suddenly. The police said it was a head on collision however Valerie was the reporter on the scene; even though at the time she was not in the frame of mind to even make the report after seeing everything. However her camera man did VERY well documenting every single detail of the scene; yes it did in fact LOOK like a car crash but something seemed off.

Her kids probably thought she was crazy but she really didn't care; the police just THOUGHT they where going to take Vince's car and his body directly after his murder. But she told them flat out no; caught on video from her camera guy "I do not trust the police department in this matter at all; you all are much too quick to jump to conclusions without proper investigation. You will not be taking my husband's body nor his car; I will find my own third party to do his autopsy and I have a mechanic I trust so he will take the car. You all are done here; good bye." The minute the cops left she called a friend of hers who owned his own mechanic shop and asked him to come pick up my husbands car then got on the phone to see about someone willing to do an autopsy. Finally someone came through for her; the man's name is Ducky…he's about sixty years old but very spritely. Both Ducky and Mickey the Mechanic arrived at the same time; she explained the situation to them both, made sure they had her phone number and let them do their jobs.

About a week or so later she got back to back phone calls from both Mickey and Ducky; Mickey said that Vince's car was in tip top shape, except for some blood on the passenger side door handle which goes all the way across the passenger seat and busted passenger side window. He said it looked like someone tried to wipe up the blood but did a shit job. Ducky said that his findings with the autopsy was rather odd; it would seem that Vince has defensive wounds on his hands as well as a gun shot to his chest; entering the chest and exiting the back. He said that he made note of Vince's clothes and seated position in the car, the clothes were rumpled to one side like he'd been grabbed and dragged towards the driver side. He said that he had collected the bullet and sent his brother who is a retired forensic scientist. She thanked them both and proceeded to quit her job.

Yes you heard right; she quit her job as a reporter only to become a private investigator; she has one suspect in particular in mind but of course everyone who lives in this town is a suspect. She sold her bright red jag only to replace it with an inconspicuous car…more like a soccer mom van which held all her P.I. stuff. She was determined to find out who killed her husband and why; as hard as it may be she had to be real about this. Her first order of business was to dig deep into her husbands life and see if he had any secrets that might have gotten him killed; this is where she called upon the services of her daughter Vicky; who on top of loving sports also had taken up the hobby of hacking into various computers. Valerie told her that she needed her to see if she could find anything on her fathers computer that would seem suspicious; of course at first she was reluctant then she told her the findings of Mickey and Ducky which concluded Vince was in fact murdered….it was then Vicky was more than willing to help.

Now with the help of her daughter; she know for a fact that we will figure this out....this might not be the bonding experience she thought they would have but at least one of her children no longer thinks she is crazy. After a ton of searching through Vince's computer Vicky came up with nothing; on one hand she was happy that he wasn't doing anything that would give him a secret that would result in his death however that also gave her no leads. So this just means that everyone in town is a suspect without any leads…bright and early tomorrow she will start shadowing everyone in hopes of getting to the bottom of this and closing this case.

She has no idea how long solving this case will take but for the sake of her deceased husband as well as her family she can only hope that it will be closed rather quickly. However Valerie is no fool; with the life of a reporter under her belt she knew for a fact that many cases never get solved. All she could do is pray this was not the case; she wanted justice for her husband's killer.

Chapter 2

Two years has passed since the death of Vince Valerium and a lot has happened in this time even though Valerie is no where more near finding out who had killed her husband than she was on the very first day. In fact she seems to have more questions than answers over this course of time; sure she was learning a lot about the people that lives in the neighborhood but none of it has anything to do with her husband. Or at very least she can't find a viable link; if she could just get one lead…one nibble…anything to crack this case wide open.

Every private investigator needs a base of operation; as such Valerie took over Vince's old office. It was already equipped with everything anyone could need for any sort of business; computer desk, chair, printer and of course a computer well those are the most important items in this room. The walls are lined with pictures and colored string linking certain pictures together; drop down curtains acting as wall space with more of the same. File cabinets stuffed to the gills with all sorts of information about each and every person in the neighborhood.

Even though computers are a very LARGE part of being a private investigator there was a rather unfortunate event involving Valerie's personal laptop which she had been using for her P.I. stuff. Of course she had everything saved on her computer; one day while she was working she received a private message containing a link from the community board; when she clicked on the link her computer instantly crashed. Vicky, her daughter, tried to fix her computer but even with all her experience with hacking and computers there was no way she could fix what had been done. This happened about a year and a half ago; needless to say Valerie no longer keeps ANYTHING on the computer she now uses. At her daughters request; she saves everything on a USB drive as well as prints it all out making a hard copy.

Sometime later after the incident with her computer yet another incident took place; one closer to home. In fact it was IN their home; it was a day in which they were gone as a rule they always took the dogs with them when they left the house on the weekends. This particular weekend Valerie had decided to take a rest from her private investigator stuff and take her family to a barbeque at the park. She had seen a poster about this barbeque and thought it would be a fun family outing. Thankfully they had left for the day because when they got home they found their home had been ransacked; after a moment of looking around it was clear that the burglar's had only trashed the home but tried to get into Valerie's office but found much to everyone's surprise that Vincent had reinforced the door so that no one would ever be able to get inside without a key.

The police was no help in either incident; after the fiasco surrounding the 'car accident' they had no interest what so ever in helping the woman who said a lot of horrible things about them. In essence Valerie and her family was on their own; because of this not only was Valerie living the life of a private investigator trying to find her husbands killer but she had also started a blog under a different name telling about various things going on in this town as if she was a third party. The blog has been attracting a lot of attention since the day she started it.

Now as they approach the two year anniversary of Vincent's death and still no closer to finding his killer; Valerie had made the decision while visiting her husbands grave for possibly the millionth time since his demise to take a rest from the case. "I'm sorry Vince…I love you more than anything but for now I can't keep sneaking around looking for your killer. I feel like I am loosing my mind; I can't sleep; I barely eat…I hardly know the kids. Please give me a sign that I am doing the right thing." At these words a gentle breeze kissed her face making her smile a bit "Thank you my love I promise I will not allow this case to go cold; I will find out who killed you but honestly babe I feel like I've hit a dead end. Maybe if I step away for a while and come back with fresh eyes I can see things from a different light." This time a butterfly fluttering around landed on her nose; this in itself made her beam in pure happiness.
Valerie knew that Vincent would want nothing but a happy life for her even if that meant no one ever knew who his killer was but she could never let that happen. However like she told him at his grave…a rest was in order and that is exactly what she was going to get. Alas little did she know that she would end up getting way more than she bargained for as time went on; but for now she would settle for leaving town taking a much needed vacation. A vacation that she of course told her children about at dinner that evening "Children; you both know how much I love you both right? And you know how much I love your father." It was Val that answered his mother "Of course mom; we love you too." Vicky spoke up here gently holding her mom's hand "Yeah and dad loved you so much." Valerie smiled a bit at her children so happy just to be there with them in that moment; yeah sure they were only eating pizza but the point was being together "Well I'm not sure if you two will think of me as selfish or not but I need to take a rest from all this private investigator stuff. I mean yes I want to find out who killed your father more than anything but here lately I have been feeling completely stuck and like I have lost myself. So I have decided to take a vacation…I do not yet know where I am going but I will be sure to let you both know when I do." Both of her kids were very supportive and happy to hear that their mother was going to go on vacation and find herself again; honestly they had been very worried about her but anytime they tried talking to her about it she would simply dismiss them.

Within a weeks time everything was all set for her vacation; plane tickets, hotel reservations, and anything else someone might need for a vacation. Before taking her leave she made sure the kids were well taken care of by way of leaving them with plenty of food in the kitchen and money in the safe they all have the combination to. The day came in which she was to leave; thankfully she had been smart enough to book her flight for later in the day so this way she wouldn't feel rushed. Her town car came to pick her up as scheduled just after breakfast around nine in the morning; even though her flight was not until about two in the afternoon; she knew that she would still have to go through bag check and all that stuff. Most people would try to bring everything they might need from home like shampoo and what not; however this was not the case with Valerie. Even though she knew she was going to be away for a while she had only packed a small carryon which held some outfits, entertainment stuff for the flight, traveler's checks, passport and ID.

Finally she had arrived at the airport, thanked the driver and tipped him with the twenty dollar bill considering the nearest airport was three towns away she felt he totally deserved it. When she walked into the airport she sent a text to Val since she knew that right now Vicky was currently kicking butt in a soccer game. "Hey Val my dear just got to the airport thought I'd send you a text before going through bag check and whatever else I need to go through before boarding the plane." Almost instantly she received a text back "Thanks mom be sure to text before take off and when you land." She couldn't help the chuckle that escaped her lips upon reading that as she sent back "Yes mother :P " then pocketed her phone. She went through the crazy long line just to get her bag checked before getting to the next waiting area where she seen a restaurant, a bar and a library where people could pass the time during long lay over's and what not.

After a nice lunch, passing some time in the library and even getting a drink at the bar she was FINALLY boarding for take off. She sent a short text to Val "On plane; turning off phone. Will text at landing." she then did in fact turn her phone off. It did not seem like it took very long for the plane to take flight; when it did she felt as if she was once again being held by her husband. It was truly an amazing feeling; one that made her think of a rather old song *Back in Baby's Arms* and she never wanted to leave them again.

Chapter 3

*~*Val Valerium*~*

Every since I was little I had a strange fascination for music; many have called me a musical genius because I can simply hear how an instrument is played once and know how to play it. However I am not stuck up like most would assume I would be; nope in fact when I get an instrument in my hands I am able to give any song my own flair.

My mother tried getting me to study music in a special school for people like myself but I wanted no part of it; I did not wish to be with people who thought of nothing but music. Nah I wanted to go to a real high school and make real friends; besides Vicky's cheering section in her many sporting events would be thin if I didn't stay. Yeah that's what I convinced myself…truth is that I was just scared of rejection at a big fancy school; so instead I put together a band.

This band consisted of myself and my friends who all loved music as much as I do; we called ourselves Cagevot; which is simply the first letters of our names put together as an anagram. Now to introduce ourselves; Craig (Lead Guitar), Alice (Lead Singer), Greg (Drums), Eric (Bassist), Val (Rhythm Guitarist), Otis (Keyboardist) and Terry (Percussionist). Right now we are just a garage band and that is perfectly fine as we are just having fun playing together. Don't get me wrong we would love to get out of the garage someday but for now we are making do with what we got. My friends and I always have loads of fun together; sometimes I can not help but think of how we all met.

Otis and Terry was the first two I met; these two are twins and are completely insane in the best way. They are practical jokers; I met them as a victim of one of their jokes which I found myself laughing at. Every since that day the three of us was best friends; little by little our group has grown. I helped Alice out of a bully situation by pretending to be her boyfriend, I seen Eric having problems with his car so I give him Otis's phone number, both Greg and Craig was having trouble in one of the classes they were in with me so I give them Terry's phone number so he could help them out with that.

We have all been an unstoppable force every since we became amazing friends; I won't go so far as to say that we rule the school or anything. However I will say that we became rather popular in our own right much to the football teams dismay. Yeah the football team just THOUGHT they ruled the school; not anymore. The football team probably would have been a much bigger deal if the team did not completely and totally suck; I know I shouldn't but I feel kind of bad for stealing the football teams thunder. Oh well…such is life I suppose.

Now don't get me wrong; I'm super happy that mom has decided to take a rest from all this private investigator stuff for now. She really needs this vacation she has been driving herself crazy trying to figure out who killed dad but she couldn't have picked the worst possible time to go really. I mean I just started Junior Year which means among my already overloaded schedule with school, studying, band practice and attending my sister's many sporting events…I know had gotten something else tacked on. Driver's Education; this class would take up my entire year provided that I pass the behind the book portion of course. Therefore that means that if I obtain my permit I will need a licensed driver to practice with and the only one I could think of just left for a much needed vacation. Little did I know that she had taken care of literately everything.

Speaking of mom taking a vacation she should be at the airport right about now; "Hey Val my dear just got to the airport thought I'd send you a text before going through bag check and whatever else I need to go through before boarding the plane." I looked at my phone to see this text from my mom making me smile while at Vicky's soccer game. This girl had just scored two goals in a matter of minutes…she'll probably end up going pro "Thanks mom be sure to text before take off and when you land." Before Vicky could score her next goal mom sent me back a text; yeah this was so mom "Yes mother :P " I rolled my eyes putting my phone away to watch the rest of the game.

As always the game was intense and once again Vicky's team; The Valley Tigers; won…no they didn't just win that is being kind they totally destroyed the other team. Just as I was hugging Vicky and congratulating her team my phone pinged with another text "On plane; turning off phone. Will text at landing." I showed Vicky the message and she nodded softly knowing full well mom wouldn't have sent her any messages while she was kicking major butt during her soccer game. "Don't worry Vic I'll tell her to call when she gets to the hotel." She nodded softly but I could still see she was upset about something so I decided she needed to be distracted. I went over to her team "Hey ladies…great game since school starts in less than a week I was thinking of having a small get together. My friends and Vicky's friends; I was going to say her teammates but I think her teammates are her friends." It was here Vicky was looking at me like I was insane "But Val…mom's not home…" I gently ruffled up her hair "As long as we don't destroy the place and keep the get together down to just our friends I think everything will be fine." She glared at me for messing up her already messed up hair…women but actually agreed to this get together "Its settled everyone will come over to our house in two days; we will be fully ready by then. Come on Vicky lets get home we have a lot to do."

Soon enough the day had arrived for the get together I had planned; let me back up just a bit…when we arrived home from the soccer game there was a van parked in front of the house with a dog on the side. My sister being who she is went straight up to the van "Who are you and why are you parked in front of our home?" I swear I wish I had a camera for the look on the man's face….it looked like he swallowed a lemon whole. "Ma'am I am here to pick up your dogs…" from there it turned into a big fiasco; long story short I ended up calling mom "Mom I'm sorry for disturbing you on your vacation but there is this guy here saying he is here to pick up the dogs." She was silent for a bit then finally spoke *"If the company name is Augusta's Doggie Daycare, Spa and Boarding then they were supposed to have picked them up before I left but yes they are to pick them up. I figured with both yours and your sisters busy schedules and me just taking off like I did the least I could do is take away some of the burden by sending the dogs on a retreat as well as myself."* "Oh now I get it if he would have just explained who he was instead of just saying I'm here to take your dogs this would have went very differently" *"Everything alright?"* "Yeah except Vicky socked this guy in the nose because he was just repeating the same thing over and over again but now that we understand what is going on. We can send our dogs with him as long as he gives us his supervisor's phone number." *"Sounds like you have everything handled; give me a call if you need anything."* With that we said our goodbyes and sent the dogs on their way to be pampered as well. Now like I said we are all ready for the get together and today is the day; all we have to do now is wait for everyone to arrive.

Chapter 4

*~*Vicky Valerium*~*

I have always been a huge sports buff; not to the point where they took over my life but yes they are a huge part of my life. My mom never understood why but there was something she didn't know; at the age of four daddy took me out to the garage and started teaching me basic karate. He said that it was a good idea for a woman to know how to defend herself because there are lots of creeps in the world. By the time I was nine daddy had taught me all he knew in the world of karate so he signed me up for classes; I still take these classes to this day.

Over the years I have joined many sports some I stuck with while others I dropped like a hot potato. Now in high school my list of sports is down to a fair few; karate, gymnastics, soccer and lacrosse. Of course karate and gymnastics are both teams that I have away from school mostly during the summer. While soccer and lacrosse are both teams that I have during school though we do still practice during the summer; however with all of this going on I still have one main passion that my mother knows nothing about and far as I am concerned she will never know about it as it is far to dangerous for her to ever know.

I am a drag racer; okay you may be wondering how in the world someone the age of fifteen got into something like this. Well let me tell you; it was rather easy…one day while I was doing some run of the mill hacking. I was invited to play a game; it was actually a drag racing game. I soon found myself sitting at the wheel of a virtual car in the midst of a race…man this was so freeing, thrilling and exciting. I was beyond shocked when I actually won; the moment I did win I was sent an invite to an actual race.

Thankfully the race didn't collide with any of my prior engagements; soccer practice is always Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings while lacrosse practice is always on Tuesday and Thursday mornings; they do this because these two teams use the same field. Not to mention karate is always on Monday and Friday evenings while gymnastics is on Tuesday and Thursday evenings; this is so practice does not interfere with school. This race just so happened to be on Saturday evening; when I arrived I was greeted by a man named Max. This man stands about six foot tall, dark chocolate skin and muscles for days; he handed me keys to a car "This here is my baby; but currently I can't drive." He lifted up his sunglasses to reveal that he obviously just had surgery done on his eyes "Lasik? Ouch…can you see at all?" He nodded softly "A bit but not enough to drive however I saw you drive in that game….you got mad skills." I smiled softly fighting back a blush "But that was just a game…I can't actually drive." Max smirked a bit revealing that he has some sexy dimples on both sides of his face "Actually that race was real; you only knew it to be a game but you were in fact driving a real car." I couldn't believe what I was hearing but by the sound of his voice he was telling the truth; I reached over and grabbed the keys "Let me get a feel of the car before the race." He chuckled a bit as I went to do just that; man the race was AMAZING and I won but what made it better was the money at the end.

I have only been racing for about two months but at risk of tooting my own horn; BEEP BEEP BEEP! Even though I don't have a license yet I am still driving laps around these veterans that have been racing for a long time. Honestly it felt amazing not to mention that Max and I have been seeing a lot of each other both on and off the races…I guess you could say that I have a boyfriend. However both racing and Max have been put on the back burner since mom decided to go on vacation because I know Val will be up my butt wanting to know what I'm doing and where I'm at all the time.

Don't get me wrong; I love my brother to pieces but sometimes he drives me insane. However this day was not one of them; he took it upon himself to open up our house to all of our friends before school starts in a week. This school year I begin as a Sophmore; I'm so very thankful that I have already gotten through the hassle of Freshman year. With the distraction of my sports I am sure this year will be something to remember. Just as por friends was starting to arrive my phone dinged with a text message it's mom "Hey sweety hope all is well; I just woke up from a nap and ready to go grab some dinner. Sending you pictures; I need help with choosing an outfit." After looking over the pictures mom sent I texted her back "The black top with the skirt and those heels; mom you are hot you need to show off. Besides you're on vacation…have fun." I know she is still very much in love with daddy but I really want her to be happy even if that means she is with another man. "Oh your so sweet dear…thank you. I will contact either you or your brother sometime later." "Okay have fun mom and take lots of pictures." I put my phone away in my pocket then went to the living room to hang out with our friends; honestly I had no idea just how full the house would be with all of our friends here at the same time. Even though the house was full I knew we would have loads of fun this sort of relaxation is just what we all needed before school starts…I'll have to remember to thank Val later.

Chapter 5

*~*Valerie Valerium*~*

Welcome to the Bahama's were the dolphins play in the bright blue waters, the alcohol never stops flowing, the music never stops pumping and the food is like eating art. I have only been here for two days but already I feel like a new person; upon the landing of the plane everyone inside was greeted by a massive welcoming committee complete with dancing men and women, music and even people that escorted us to our hotels. It was honestly a real treat; since I have been here already I have treated myself to a luxury spa day thankfully they came to my room because I ended falling asleep during the massage.

When I did finally wake up the afternoon of the second day of course I was starving so after getting dressed I went down to the restaurant inside the hotel. The lady at the reception desk noticed me "Oh Mrs. Valerium hello; I haven't seen you since check in I was debating on calling but then I know how jet lag can be sometimes." I couldn't help but laugh a bit "You might think that was the issue but actually I treated myself to that amazing luxury spa you know the one that comes to the guests rooms and the massage put me into a small coma. Although now that you mention it perhaps I shouldn't have gotten that spa day directly after being on the plane; I never thought about jet lag." The lady at the desk looked at me with wide eyes "Oh dear…well it seems that you really needed the sleep if nothing else." She handed me a folder containing all sorts of brochures of stuff that a tourist would love; including a card with the name of the hotel's restaurant that would be punched. The card read as follows Thank you for staying at Beach Land Resort as a valuable member of our family the chef's here at our restaurant would like to take a bit of stress off your mind and present you with a gift of free meals. Only good until this card is full.; wow there is actually quite a few spaces on this card and its not like anyone would only eat at the hotel. I waved to the reception lady, took my folder and went to the hotel restaurant.

Now I have been to some nice restaurants before; Vincent was always spoiling me but this…wow; it was gorgeous. They definitely made sure to stretch out the beach theme but not so much that it was overwhelming. I sat at a table with crisp white linens; not long after sitting down a young man brought over a menu "My name is Charles and I will be your waiter; I will give you some time to look over the menu would you like to start off with a drink first?" I looked up at the young man for a moment then handed him back the menu with a smile "Hello Charles my name is Valerie; this is the first vacation I have been on in a long time so how about this…bring me either whatever you would get for yourself or whatever is the most popular." He looked at me with a smirk as he took the menu back "Alright I can do that; you seem like fun." he wrote something down on his order pad then left to go put my surprise order in.

Soon Charles brought me a very pretty yellow and pink drink in a tall glass with a cherry on top. He placed the drink on the table with a smile "Cherry Pineapple Lemonade; this is my favorite drink by way of brunch as this does not have alcohol in it you will not get tipsy early in the day." I flashed him a smile "Thank you that means a lot to me; I don't mind drinking a little bit but I agree it is a bit early for that." I took a sip of the drink thankfully there was a straw with it "Oh yummy…it has a lovely balance of sweet and tart; you know I almost wonder how this would be as a smoothie?" Charles looked at me with an arched brow as his smile had gotten unbelievably bigger "Say that is an idea; might have to bring it up at the next staff meeting." I chuckled a bit giving him a soft nod as he left to go do his job.

When the waiter Charles left another man from a near by table let out a deep chuckle ~"I have come to this resort many times but never have I encountered a woman like you."~ Now of course I knew that any woman would swoon at the sound of hit voice but then again I was still holding onto the husband I would never see again "And exactly what kind of woman am I?" I asked arching my brow at him with a soft smirk at him ~"The kind of woman that lights up the room without even trying"~ His words stunned me to silence when Charles brought me food that looked amazing all I could do was nod. The stranger left without saying a word leaving me to enjoy my meal of an amazing cheesy sausage crescent roll breakfast casserole. However little did I know that I would definitely be seeing this stranger again; after finishing my meal I decided to do some shopping since there wasn't much I brought with me.

After a rather long day of shopping I went back to the hotel where I found the same lady at the reception desk "Hello I was wondering do you all have a laundry service here?" The woman nodded softly "In the sense that we wash, dry, fold and deliver your clothes back to your room or if something calls for dry clean only we do that too and simply charge it to your room." I smiled a bit as she handed me a phone number telling me how to use the phone in my room and that I will find a laundry bag with my room number in the closet in my room "Thank you miss you have been very helpful." I said going back to my room; I got the clothes I just bought all ready to be sent off with the laundry service. Once the clothes had been taken I took a nice hot shower then crawled into bed where I watched some television but ended up falling asleep. This place was just so relaxing…it was about an hour or so when I was woken to someone knocking at the door. Thankfully I had remembered to grab my robe before answering the door "Your clothes Mrs. Valerium; would you like for me to come in and hang them up for you?" I opened the door for the young woman to come inside "I'm going to text my daughter while you are doing that and thank you by the way."

I hadn't text nor spoken to my children since Val called with the whole issue about the dogs; honestly I can't believe that company was so irresponsible but whatever. He took care of it swimmingly; I sent Vicky a text "Hey sweety hope all is well; I just woke up from a nap and ready to go grab some dinner. Sending you pictures; I need help with choosing an outfit." I looked at the one whom was hanging up my clothes "Hey can you pick up some clothes that I can send my daughter so she can pick an outfit for me?" The woman chuckled a bit but obliged; I sent the pictures to my daughter and it wasn't long before she text back "The black top with the skirt and those heels; mom you are hot you need to show off. Besides you're on vacation…have fun." I couldn't help but laugh at her text but picked up what Vicky had indicated before texting her back "Oh your so sweet dear…thank you. I will contact either you or your brother sometime later." Instantly she text me back "Okay have fun mom and take lots of pictures." I didn't want to bother her nor her brother so I left it at that then went to get dressed. I have no idea how long I am going to be on vacation but I am going to make the most of it.

Chapter 6

*~*Secret admirer or something more sinister?*~*

I moved to this adorable little town because I really needed a break from Sin City…I never understood why Las Vegas was ever dubbed with this particular nickname until I moved there fresh out of the service. Well let me tell you what I thought being in the military would get me ready for anything but nothing can possibly get you ready for everything that goes on in that city. It was so bad for this military man that I only lasted a year before getting out of there with my tail between my legs. I was in search of a quite life; some place I could just settle down and relax for a while. I had been on the road in search of such a place for about six months; during one of my many stops at a little dinner the waitress struck up a conversation with me "You seem troubled…what's up?" It was pretty bad that a total stranger could tell something was wrong but I figured what the heck "Well I've been having a really hard time finding a place…I'm looking for a nice, quite little town to settled and relax in but all the places I've seen are either just way too small. I mean really you blink and you miss the damn town or it's a place that I classify as a city." The waitress looked at me with some thought "Would something in between suit you? There's a fair amount of people but not so many to make someone go completely insane, this place has got a rather large park…I mean this park is seriously to die for and on the outskirts of town there is a line of mom and pop shops." I sat there trying to visualize this place it sounded amazing but then a question came to mind "Is there crime?" The waitress looked around as she sat down "There has only been one major crime in that town; to this day no one knows who committed it." She proceeded to take out her phone to show me a YouTube clip; this was the first time I saw her. She looked so hot telling the cops off like that and taking charge "How long ago was this?" I asked casually "One year ago; and we still have no idea what happened to Vincent." I nodded softly as I paid for my meal "Thank you; can you tell me where this town is at? I think I would like to check it out. The waitress gave me directions and soon I was on my way.

A year has passed since I moved to this amazing town and oh boy do people like to talk; it didn't take me long to find out nearly everything about the woman who caught my fancy just from a YouTube video. Now I realize that a lot of this information was most likely not true but since I had yet to actually see the woman that had stroked my fancy it was nice to learn a bit about her even if it all wasn't entirely true. For two full years after returning home from work; I had gotten a job as a pilot my military background served as an amazing resume; I would sit outside on my front porch drinking a beer or two with my dinner usually Chinese take out but sometimes pizza and watch the house across the street. The house that I had learned was the residence of the woman whom had taken my hearts for a ride upon first glance; even though I haven't yet met her I know her name to be Valerie. Oh what a beautiful name she has…a beautiful name for a truly beautiful woman.

In the time that I have been watching her I realized that she also has been doing her fair share of watching people…wait was she taking pictures? Yes she is…it didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out this woman is in fact a private investigator; therefore I did the neighborly thing and sent her a care package which was complete with a folder containing all the information about myself with a note saying "Good luck with all your private investigating endeavors." I officially met Valerie during the barbeque in the park; she looked so cute in her bright blue tank top, black capris and tennis shoes. I remember this day in particular because she walked right up to me and introduced herself as well as her family including the dogs to me "I've heard about you; you were in the military correct?" I nodded softly introducing myself to her "You heard correctly; I've heard some thing about you as well." She arched her brow at me in such an adorable way "Oh? Do tell." I simply shook my head at her "Oh no…I will not be so bold as to divulge the information of my sources." She crossed her arms in front of her chest with a cocky smirk "And why is that exactly?" I looked at her with a cocky smirk of my own "Because I already know that most if not all of what I have heard is not true so I would like to get to know you on my own terms." Judging by the smile on her face I knew I had done the right thing however just as I was getting into the swing of this conversation my beeper went off making me groan "Sorry I have to fly."

I said then left the park, went to my house where I have a permanently packed overnight bag waiting for me by the door, grabbed that bag then left for the airport to find out where I would be flying too this time. Never in a million years did I believe that I would be a pilot; I mean really I never dreamed of being a pilot. The only thing I ever dreamed about was being in the military; however I during active duty I was I shot in the kneecap. Even after loads of surgery and physical therapy I still couldn't carry a gun in the same way as they were much too heavy. I was so frightened of being discharged however they took it upon themselves to enroll me in piloting classes; every since my first time in the air I was hooked. Now I am a pilot in a prestigious airline and I have been flying all over the world; I thought the places I got to see while in the military was beautiful but no man…these places have been nothing compares to what I have been seeing currently. Out of all the jobs I have ever had this is the most rewarding job I have ever had in my life.

Chapter 7

*~*Val Valerium*~*

The get together with our friends was amazing; we all let the kids insides come out. We acted silly playing kid games like flash light tag, Twister, board games such as Monopoly and Clue. I even got out my old video game console with its games as such we played like Mario, Duck Hunt and so many more older games. We spent this time stuffing our faces with all kinds of finger foods that Vicky made; I can honestly say that mom taught her how to cook with the best of them.

Two days before we were supposed to start school everyone was having so much fun but the house looked like trash and we all needed to make sure we had everything we needed for school as well enough sleep but I really didn't want to be a kill joy. However with as much as I didn't want to kill everyone's fun I knew I had to be the responsible one "Okay everyone I know we are all having an amazing time but we all only have two days before school starts. I think it would be best for all involved if we all were to depart to our separate homes so we can ensure that we have everything we need for school ready to go and that we get much needed rest." Everyone of course groaned but obliged with my rather surprising eloquent request they go home. Once everyone had left Vicky and I got to work cleaning the house; soon enough with teamwork we got the house spic and span. When we got done cleaning I carried out about four or five trash bags to the bins out back then rolled them out to the road for garbage day then went back into the now clean home "Man that was really fun…" Vicky nodded softly "Oh yeah I needed that; thanks for suggesting it." I smiled a bit giving her a brotherly hug "No problem sis…your busy with your friends and I'm the same way I figured we both needed something like this. Besides its good for us just to unwind a bit; especially you…you have so much going on with your sports and stuff; you need to take more time out for yourself to just relax." She simply looked down with a simple nod "I know…" I couldn't help but worry about my sister; I gently kissed her forehead then went up to my room. After so much time around people I really needed some alone time.

Now don't get me wrong I love spending time with my friends and sister but there are plenty of times I would much rather spend time alone. Up in my room my door would be closed but always unlocked, my iPhone is hooked up via Bluetooth to my sound bar with music pumping however I know the music will stop is a call or text comes through. Alas until then I get lost in the sounds of the music filling up my room as I allow myself to get lost in the world of online gaming; what is my game of choice? World of Warcraft…yep I can honestly say I love this game; takes me to a totally different world; I can be anyone or anything I wish.

Before I knew it the morning of our first day of school was officially here instead of an alarm I woke to my phone ringing without looking at it I answered "Hello…" On the other end was a rather familiar voice "Good morning sweetie how was your party with your friends?" Of course this was voice of my mom making me chuckle a bit as I put my phone on speaker "It was great; honestly can't get anything past you can we?" Mom laughed a bit just a Vicky knocked on my door "Hey lazy bones…oh you're up and on the phone." "Mom called this fine morning…" "Hey baby girl…I was just calling to wish the two of you a good day at school and to make sure house is clean after the party you two had." Vicky looked at me in an accusatory tone but I simply shrugged a bit "And no Vicky your brother didn't tell me anything…it's just a mothers intuition. Anyways I will let you two go so you can get ready for school…oh Val I know you have your permit so don't be alarmed when a man drops by to come pick you up for driving lessons; when he does please use my car so it can actually get drove." To say I was shocked would be an understatement but I was also very thankful that my mom thought of so much in advanced "Awesome thanks mom can you at least tell me who this mystery man is?" "Nope that's a surprise." I could almost hear her smiling on the other end making me chuckle "Alright mom we'll talk to you later don't do anything I wouldn't do." "So that leaves her totally wide open then." Wait did I just get attacked by my sister? Judging by the laughter of both my mom and sister yes I did making me smirk a bit as I gently nudge Vicky off my bed with my foot who by the way was perched on the edge of my bed to talk to mom. She landed on the floor with a thud making her stop laughing instantly "Oh as apposed to yourself who no one can ever keep track off because you are never in the same place twice." Here mom was silent but she was still on the line "Oh would you rather I be like you? Always at home stuffed up in my room playing some stupid online game; only coming out for school or band practice in the garage." I growled a bit at her "Oh don't even go there! I go to every one of your games to cheer you on! Yes I may like to be by myself for a while but that is because I am comfortable with myself to be able to be alone. And yes I would like for you to stay home more often because well at least I would know you are safe." Vicky looked at me and sighed softly, she then hugged me for a moment "I love you big brother. Later mommy." she said then left my room to get ready for school. I looked at my phone realizing that mom was in fact still on the phone "Later mom…" "Later kids." I hung up the phone and went to get ready school.
