The Sweetest Treat
@Adlai Rod
As expected, Virgil arrives a few minutes — half an hour, precisely — earlier than he's supposed to. He couldn't help it, being anxious and nervous about it. The encounter with Adlai had been stuck inside his head the entire day, there was nothing else to focus on, but now, after a troubled and sleepless night and rough day of lessons, here he is, close to the great late, waiting for his friend to arrive.
It's been a while since the last time someone that wasn't a member of his family invited him to hang out with them, and, of course, Virgil's terrified. He knows Adlai is nice — she's a Hufflepuff, after all, and of all the houses, the badgers are supposed to be the nicest! —, and he feels comfortable around her, but still, the fear of messing up and making her hate him never leave his brain, every possibility surrounding his brain, making him tense, as he looks around, biting his thumb, nervous.
He's already made up an entire conversation in his head — he'll ask for a chocolate ice cream; simple and good, ask her about her day and listen, as they eat and walk towards the lake. Hopefully, things will play along the exact way he wants to. If they do, then everything will be fine and Virgil will be able to say this encounter was a success. And if they don't... Virgil shudders, stopping to bite his thumb, scared. He doesn't even want to think about it.

The Sweetest Treat
Adlai had decided it would be a grand idea to run all the way from her last class to the kitchen and then all the way to the Great Lake where she and Virgil has planned to be. It wasn’t to hard for her due to her background in athletics but she still did sweat and was out of breath by the time she got there.
Squinting into the distance she saw Virgil. A high pitched squeak leaving her as she ran up and hugged him. “I’m so glad you came!” She screamed before letting him go and jumping about, careful not to drop her ice cream so that she wouldn’t have to run all the back again.
“I was worried you were going to step me up.” She confessed before pushing her stray hairs back into her lemon colored hijab, an awkward laugh escaping her lips as she caught her breathe.
Her chest hurt and it didn’t help that she had pins and needles but she couldn’t contain her excitement. She needed to see him, to make sure their friendship didn’t fade away over time. After all she really liked Virgil, he wasn’t like other Slytherin, well what she thought other Slytherin were like. The common rumor of Slytherin being evil didn’t help her first impressions of the house members of houses on going reputation at all.

[quote]When arms wrap around him, Virgil almost lets out a scream, scared by the sudden contact. He doesn't get the chance to hug back since he freezes on spot, heart beating close to his throat. Once they're gone, he takes a step back, hand over his heart as if that would calm it down, and smiles at the first year with pretty almond eyes staring back at him.
Of course, it's her. There's no one else in this school that would suddenly hug him like that, but the moment his eyes meet her face, Virgil lets out a loud relieved sigh, shaking his head, still touching his heart over his shirt.
"I was worried you were going to step me up," Adlai confesses, playing with her hair, letting out a burst of awkward laughter, which makes Virgil a little bit hurt. The thought of not coming never crossed his mind, and, though he can relate to Adlai's feelings, as he'd, too, be worried if he happened to be the one to ask her out, it still stings his chest a little.
"If I haven't shown up, I'd have a solid reason for it," states, rather seriously, with a small pout. Virgil gives her a good look at Adlai, that is wearing a lemon-colored headscarf, smiling, holding her ice cream. She's still catching her breath for running and attacking him like that. Her eyes look pretty today but other than that, the girl looks normal, which makes him a little embarrassed since he dressed up.
He's wearing a striped shirt with longs sleeves, underneath his favorite t-shirt; it's black with the image of the vampire singer Lorcan d'Eath sitting on top of his old red car, holding a guitar and a microphone. It's the cover of his most popular song, 'Necks to You'. Virgil used to be ashamed for liking Lorcan since his fans were mostly older witches that dreamed of him biting their necks, but the vampire had a very nice voice, and quite frankly, Virgil's a sucker for vampires.
Blair, his mum, used to say he looked like a rebel when he got to choose his outfits, while Trent just laughed and called him emo. Virgil's been called that a lot, mostly by uncle Jay and Trent. When they're not calling him the Walking Library, or Virgin, it's common to hear them say, Hey, emo!, Goth king!, or, Trent's favorite, Panic! At the Everywhere. Personally he doesn't mind the nicknames, as he's fond of darker outfits; most of his trunk is composed of black or grey clothing.
It probably fits his Slytherin image too, which he likes. Based on the history of his Hogwarts house, most Slytherins are known to be mysterious and, well, evil. Virgil's far from being evil, but he could work with mysterious if that would make him look tougher and cooler. Unfortunately, he's not as tough as he wishes he was.
Virgil looks younger and softer than he is, and if he didn't wear Hogwarts dark robes and the Slytherin tie, he's sure most students would think he's a Hufflepuff, as the badgers are known for a softer and more delicate look. It's sad to notice that Adlai is way taller than him, so he tries ignoring it, stretching his back, in order to look just slightly closer to her height.
"So," Virge says, with a weak smile, following with the script inside of his head, "How's your day?"

“If I haven't shown up, I'd have a solid reason for it,” Virgil states with a serious tone that Adlai has never heard before. Maybe he didn’t like what I said...- Adlai thought before finally putting her stray hairs to rest and had fixed her hijab so that it might not happen again during her meeting with Virgil.
Adlai wore a simple long sleeve and ankle length beige dress that was two sizes to big and draped over her body. On top of that dress was a white hoodie that hugged her waist and aided in not letting any of the cool autumn air in.
As Virgil leaned back a bit he asked, “ How's your day?" it was a simple question, one most used to make small talk, to start conversation. “It was good, but I couldn’t wait for now. I’m pretty sure I missed have the notes for the classes just thinking about.”
“How about you? How was your day?” She asked him leaning forward a bit as if she wouldn’t be able to hear him from where he stood. He looked winsome today, sort of like the rebel boys she’d see on social media. His shirt is what really interested her though being she had never seen anything like it and assumed it might be a wizarding world thing she had yet to learn about.

[quote]"It's just like any day. I didn't do much," He confesses, with a shrug, which resumes most of his days at Hogwarts. Already used to his routine, Virgil wakes up around the same hour every morning, a little too early for him to be able to leave the common room, as the sun is barely out in the sky. Thankfully, he's not fighting insomnia anymore and no weird dreams terrorize him at night. After that, he stays for about ten minutes in the bathroom before his dormmates get up, then leaves before they can start to make a lot of noise.
Around nine, he sits down at the Slytherin table and eats his breakfast on his own, gets a letter back from Trent (he's starting to doubt his cousin is forcing Sabrina to write his letters for him, since they're always very long and his calligraphy has become readable), then goes on with his lessons for the day. There's nothing really fun about them either, other than occasional jokes his classmates tell or new stuff to learn.
Quite honestly, the most exciting things to happen these past two weeks were meeting Robin Thompson, a Hufflepuff such as Adlai, finding Isaac close to the Great Lake, and now being invited for ice cream. Merlin, he really is boring, isn't he? Virgil looks around, nodding to nothing — there aren't many students outside, which is great. "At least, today's Charms lesson was exciting. We got to learn the Levitation Charm."
He did great in other subjects that required a good memory, such as History of Magic and even Defense Against the Dark Arts, but Virgil wasn't really good with practical lessons, his spell never seemed to work as he lacked confidence. Not trying to think about his failures in today's lesson, he looks back to the Hufflepuff. He notices Adlai's interest in his shirt, which makes him a little happy that she noticed he dressed up.
"It's Lorcan d'Eath," Virgil says as if that explained a lot, expecting to get a reaction. "Have you heard of him?" He doesn't give the girl time to respond, starting a rant, unable to stop himself, something that always happens when Lorcan is the topic of a conversation. "He's a very popular vampire singer! He has a really soft voice, but his songs are full of energy. Most people only know his hit song Neck To You, but his other songs are equally as good, some even better, and deserve a lot of recognition! Like, Bite, or Eclipse! Oh-oh, and Dejavu, too! Merlin, his last album was fantastic! It's my favorite and—" He stops, realizing excited he sounded over a male singer. Nervously, he coughs, runnings his hand through his hair, turning it into a black mess on top of his head. "I-I mean... He's decent, I guess!"

Adlai’s eyes widened when she heard Virgil begin to ramble on about the artist he so clearly appreciated. She liked seeing him like this, he had a sort of shine to him. Until he stopped and said “I-I mean... He's decent, I guess!”
“No, I want to know more!” Adlai prodded taking a small piece of paper out of her hoodies pocket. On the picture was a signature. “I got this when I went to Kabul. My grandpa had taken me to see Satin and I was able to get an autograph! I’ve carried it around with me ever since because I’m convinced it’s someone kind lucky charm.” She explained holding out the autographed photo to Virgil so that he may see it.
“If you like something you should embrace it, well at least that’s what I think.” She said. She had always wanted people to be comfortable in their own skin, own what they like without shame as long as it was something that didn’t harm others. Seeing people be confident and ecstatic have her immeasurable energy.
“What other artist do you like?” She asked already knowing about the band Cake from their last meeting where she had dragged his poor souls into the abandoned bathrooms and had the two of them create a nickname for Isaac.

[quote]Biting his tongue, Virgil watches in awe as Adlai shows him the autographed photo. He's no idea who Satin is but assumes they're a very popular around Adlai lives, based on the way she's talking about it. His eyes light up, listening to the girl's explanation, wondering how he'd react if he had a signed photo of Lorcan d'Eath — most likely, he'd pass out, he figures, and would probably walk around with the photo glued to his forehead, showing everyone that he met one of his favorite singers ever, not caring if the vampire was popular among witches.
Adlai tells him he should embrace the fact that he likes d'Eath's music, and he nods to that, though Virgil knows that won't happen immediately. Eventually, maybe he will, who knows? He listens to the girl's question, looking into the blue sky, thinking deeply about. There aren't many artists that he listens to, just a few that he loves with great passion. Most of them are from the wizarding world, which Adlai's probably never heard of, but he knew a few muggle artists.
"Well, I have a very different taste with music because it depends a lot on my mood," Virgil feels the need to explain, as people often got surprised when he named his favorite singers since they're completely different. "I'd say Lorcan and Taeyeon are my favorite male and female singers, respectively," He nods to himself, then again feeling like he should explain some more, in case Adlai knew who the latter was. "Taeyeon is a muggle singer. I didn't know much about her, but my father came back from work one day and he couldn't stop playing her songs. One of his half-blood coworkers plays her songs when the dragons are feeling scared, to calm them down."
Since that day, Virgil managed to convince his mother to take him to muggle stores whenever Taeyeon released a new album. He devoured her entire discography so quickly, he could sing songs after just a few listens. Personally, his favorites were Gravity, Four Seasons and Voice. With the time he spent on her songs, his Korean improved drastically, to the point that his father even considered taking him for a quick visit to the rest of his family, that he hasn't seen in years. Never got the chance to go, but Mihyung says the offer still stands.
"I can see why the dragons like her," Virgil adds, opening a weak smile, missing the time he'd visit the reserve with his parents back when they were still together. Mum used to say she wanted to live in Sweden, but they fell out of love before they could. "Any wizard artists you like? I could lend you my d'Eath's albums, so you can give it a listen if you're interested."

“Any wizard artists you like? I could lend you my d'Eath's albums, so you can give it a listen if you're interested.” Virgil offered and Adlai nodded putting the autograph back into her pocket.
“I don’t know any wizard artists so that would great!” She exclaimed.
“If you don’t mind me asking, how do we listen to music while we’re here? I’m used to streaming songs on the computer or listening to the care radio.” She asked since she had been music deprived since she came to Hogwarts.
Music was generally regulated by her Mother since she didn’t want Adlai or her sisters listening to anything she deemed “inappropriate” but Adlai got away with music by Ghost somehow, mostly thanks to her Father finding ways to play their music while her Mother was out and about or at work.
One year Adlai’s father had given her a tape recorder so that Adlai could listen to her music while at tennis or gymnastics. I should have brought it with me...- She thought. Ah well she’d pack it with the rest of her things after winter break. Maybe then she could introduce Virgil and her other friends to the music she liked.
What would they think of it?- she wondered since most of her friends were half-bloods who grew up really only in the wizarding world or pure bloods.

[quote]"Great! I'll bring them after winter break," He smiles. Hopefully, his favorite songs would resonate with Adlai and they'd be able to have more things in common. It's funny, now that he thinks about it, that even though they aren't exactly that similar, the two of them got along really well.
Adlai was much more talkative and charming than he'd ever be, while he was just some dumb Slytherin. Just like his relationship with Trent. The two couldn't be more different even if they wanted to and were still the greatest friends.
"And, uh, about that, I have no clue," Virgil confesses, shrugging, hand on the back of his neck, as he hasn't been able to listen to music since he'd gotten there. He was hoping he could owl his mother so send him his CDs and player. "I guess we can bring whatever we want."
Though he doubts his Slytherin dormmates would like the same genre of music as him, it's been a long time since Virgil got the chance to lay down on his bed, staring at the ceiling, daydreaming, as various songs played softly, as a feeling of ease settled on his heart, and he felt like he deserved his alone time, singing along to Lorcan's voice, not caring about the lyrics about wanting to bite another wizard's neck.
Virgil snaps out of his thought, once he realizes something very important.
"Oh, I still don't have my ice cream!" He points out, with a tone an old man would use to describe the weather, staring at the treat the Hufflepuff was holding. Another thing Virgil never got the chance to enjoy much, as his mother always told him that sweets weren't good for him. "Do you think the elves have chocolate ice cream?"

"Do you think the elves have chocolate ice cream?" Virgil asks her. “Maybe, they had strawberry from what I know on my part.” She said looking down at her slowly melting treat. “Do you want to go and check? I can go with you.” She offered.
Chocolate ice cream was good but Adlai had only eaten it so many times since strawberry was her parents all time favorite flavor so that was all they really in their household. That and whatever desserts her Mother would make over the weekend for her and her sisters to take to school in their lunch boxes.
“Do you like chocolate ice cream?” Adlai asked him. Chocolate was a very common and simple flavor of ice cream, not that there was anything wrong with that, it is very enjoyable especially on hot summer days. Adlai’s personal favorite form of chocolate ice cream were fudge pops that she had eaten while over at a friends house during the time she still lived in Iceland.
She then wondered if she could possibly find them in Wales the next time she is able to go to the grocery store with her parents again during the summer break. Silly how it’s only the first few months of school and she’s already thinking about summer.
