Hehe. I’m just trying to make a good impression on Kaitlyn’s friends.
I’m glad to hear it! Hey now, has Kaitlyn told you about me? I fell off my broom in the first week at Ilvermorny and was made fun of for a while … and I’ve fallen off my broom at least three times since! At least you weren’t hurt!Brookline Quinn wrote: 3 Jun 2025, 01:37Devon Wallen wrote: 3 Jun 2025, 01:28How have you been? Maybe... though I don't think it's the site that scared him off. He only left after everyone started warming up to him and coming to terms with his personality. But I guess it's still a possibility. It's still unfair though, how he was treated. He really shouldn't have to change his personality to fit the mold and be accepted. I wasn't too far off from him when I first joined the site. I feel I was just spared from the backlash cuz I got lucky and met the right people, forging the right connections. Sometimes I wonder whether people genuinely like my presence or think I'm a weirdo and just accept me cuz the rest of the community does.Aurelia Valentine wrote: 2 Jun 2025, 20:27
No matter how active I am, I did not really catch people calling him out for his behaviour. I thought, at least in his situation, everything was fine. He did not stop too - just continuing his life and glorifying himself whilst also interacting with others. I got this vibe that he must only be in his early teens, and I am not particularly ignorant with this type of behaviour as I am also unbearable at that stage of my life.
I was surprised when he confessed that he was scared - filling up his chats with bewares, reminders, and such - that he must be offending someone. I thought he was bluffing as I perceived him as someone who does not actually care about others' opinion, then he revealed that people were owling him left and right, calling him out, and even escalating the matters to staff.
I actually subconsciously thought that the situation aforementioned would happen one of those days but I was not happy about being right at the time. Calling him out for harmless jokes and threatening to ban him for it - I perceived this as something putting off his fire entirely. Pettely does not have to restrict the entirety of his personality in order to fit in. The fact that he fought hard to refrain himself from making such offensive jokes actually shows how much he did not want to leave the site entirely; making me wonder if he had any friends in real life.
I wonder if he became tired from treading on eggshells. This community is not supposed to scare off someone for being different. If he cannot wear a mask in order to fit in then we do not deserve to put him down like that. Sigh, I wish I interacted with him more; once he come back I am going to tell him how much I treasure my friendship with him - come to think of it, he must not have known this. I would not be thinking like this if I was not paranoid because of those abandoned accounts littering the Games Room.![]()
I want to believe his cause for leaving isn't something so negative. Like I always say, he did mention he wanted to focus on his academic future and that he was getting increasingly concerned about his future. Maybe he left because he had other priorities and commitments to attend to. There comes a point in a life when one realizes they have limited time and have to weigh their commitments, before letting go of some. But yeah, I do hope he returns :< and hope he knows he does have friends here who value him.
The paranoia is so real. It only gets reinforced everytime I see another friend getting banned.Emily Shephard wrote: 2 Jun 2025, 20:40 Aurelia Valentine I'm sensing a lot of guilt for something that I don't think is neither yours or Pettely's fault. While people can gently remind people to remain respectful to one another on what they say/do, I do sincerely believe Pettely had nothing but good intentions. I always thought of him as a jokester that just sometimes didn't always land a punchline (as you said, maybe a young teen(?)). I would consider this as testing what people are comfortable with and then acting accordingly which I think Pettely did and was genuinely trying to do.
I agree with your last point about how people shouldn't be scared off from the community. Now that's not to say I know anyone where that has happened but I do sometimes have the fear of overstepping any critiques or teeny nitpicks I've had with the site. By and large, these critiques are not a big deal and I express them with the objective of simply wanting to learn more on how changes and limitations to the site work and why.
I put a post up discussing the iNPC changes and my feelings with them in their FAQ and all day I've wrestled with the idea of taking it down, afraid that staff might take offense or picture me as ungrateful or trying to cheat the system, and a lot of other paranoid thoughts. I didn't even say anything harsh in it but again, its the paranoia of feeling like staff won't like what's written even when it's just feedback that's said in all kindness and respect.
Scout Fu-Hai SCOUTIE!!!
The trade-offs of a well-moderated community, I guess. On one hand you get a site where everyone's kind, supportive and welcoming but on the other hand you're worried you'll get cancelled for stepping out of the line. Sigh.
Not that Hio's a bad site though, I've never found such an amazing online community.
Just... complicated feelings brrrrr
