Thora quivered as Bridget confirmed her worst suspicions. Although there was no way to be sure, the two agreed on one thing. All of the tall people were leaving. Which meant all the professors were probably leaving them to their deaths by whatever Lear had allowed or planned. Well, that wasn't good... Balls at Hogwarts were historically destructive--Thora had hoped that this one wouldn't be so. Things didn't look up, though.

Thora was a girl of control, of organization. Not being in control--or knowing what was going to happen--was one of the snek's worst fears. Fighting down the nausea rising in her throat, Thora gulped as she glanced around at the suddenly tall figures around her, all with masked identities. With that, Thora realized her mistake. Why had she come? The Masquerade Ball was asking for trouble. A bunch of kids with magic, closed up in the same room. To make it worse, you couldn't tell who other people were.

Thora wasn't stupid--she had realized this before she had come--but just being in the situation itself raised a fear the girl hadn't even considered, preparing for the ball. At least she had a friend. The timid second year would never have even considered going to a social event of any type--let alone at Hogwarts--without someone she knew. That was why the young girl spent her first year alone and afraid. Now, she had some company that had come her way bearing the name of Bridget Collins. Now, she could have someone to be her friend--whatever that meant, anyways--and she wouldn't be quite so vulnerable. Both of the girls were smart and could do magic, as they had proved in their duel even though they didn't win

Glancing towards the middle of the room, Thora saw a... commotion. The mess of wrestling bodies and flying colors could only be described as utter chaos. A huge mass in the middle could only be one of the half-giants, and she faintly recognized Santario, another second string Quidditch player among the fray. What was even happening? A cross between wrestling and dueling continued on the floor as Thora inched closer to the group.

Everything in her screamed to get away, to get to safety. But this was her safety. As long as she wasn't hit by the flying arms and legs--or trampled, for that matter--she would rather be among allies than suddenly attacked, unprotected and unprepared. After all, if anything were to infiltrate the party, it would be soon. Probably only about half the professors were still in the room.

"Um, Bridget, I think we should pretend to be part of this. If there's no one in there that will kill us, I think we're better of there if something happens." Thora whispered apprehensively, eyes darting around as she spoke. Although the professors--taller figures in the room--seemed to be leaving, more appeared to replace them. What was going on here? Thora finally reached her destination, mere feet away from where people were now pulling other people off of figures on the ground. Hoping they were Hogwarts students, Thora attempted a smile. Hopefully they were, in fact, friends, and Thora wasn't making her biggest mistake tonight.

Karilyna glanced behind her. So, her friends had followed. Fingering her wand, Karilyna slipped it into her boot--safe? Not really, but stupid dresses didn't come with pockets--and crossed her arms. Fear crept into her expression as the young girl watched the prone girl lying motionless on the ground. Memories... too many memories flowed into her head. A horrible picture ran through her mind: Karilyna's parents lying dead on the floor... The young girl was whisked back into her own mind.
-----flashback---

Karilyna was young, just two and smarter than most toddlers her age.  Clutching the shortest part of the banister with chubby hands, the child made her way downstairs. A glorious summer day awaited her--a perfect day for the park. And then she saw them. Her parents lay on the ground side by side, as if they were merely sleeping. But the ruse didn't fool even the two-year-old. Her parents were dead.
Karilyna tried not to sway on her feet as she remember the horror that had coursed through her younger self as she witnessed the scene that would change her life forever. Shaking herself as if trying to physically bring herself back to the present, Karilyna sighed in relief as Iris twitched on the floor. Creepy? Yes, but at least she wasn't in a coma or something. This was weird...

Where were they supposed to get Iris when she just fainted out of nowhere? Honestly, there really was no good way to do this. The first years obviously couldn't carry her very far, and she didn't even know if Teiki knew the way to the hospital area. Or whatever it was called here. "Maybe slap her cheeks?" Karilyna half-joked. "Just kidding, don't actually. Honestly, though, what are we supposed to do with her?" The normally confident girl was out of ideas. This was unusual, as Karilyna was typically the first to push forward and do something.

"Okay, how 'bout this," Karilyna suggested. "We can try to find a professor in the mess of things inside and maybe they could help." The girl was starting to get impatient, clicking the heels of her boots on the ground. "Sounds good?" The Thunderbird took off her mask, waved a stray hair off her face, and reapplied her disguise. Karilyna spun on her heel, waiting for her friends to answer. She did need to wait for someone--after all, she had heard that Hogwarts balls didn't tend to go so well.

Looking down at the glass still grasped in her hand, Astrea was displeased to find that the cloudy sikhye she had been nursing merely reached halfway up. A sudden chill ran through her as her bare shoulders took the brunt of a cold burst of air entering from a high window, and the blue blood was instantly drawing comparisons between the crisp air of Scotland’s fall, the wet winds of her British home, and the mild summers of France. It was going to take some time before she got used to the contrasting temperatures, it was going to take a lot of time. And that time was not now.

The grand commotion of a tussle somewhere in the ballroom irritated her, and the music differed so much from the varied beats she had learned throughout her life was grating as it rattled on in a seemingly repeating motion. Yes, she certainly had expected better. Much better, considering that it was Hogwarts setting this up for its students and guests. With as many, if not more, adults and house elves attending to the event previously as the Four Bloodlines. Only the decor appealed slightly to her, though the patterned carpeting and painted ceiling seemed more like new money than refined old.

Astrea wordlessly adjusted the lace cape draped upon her smoothly, the material falling soft on pale skin and silken fabric. A snippet of conversation brushed past her, something about showing off how ‘pure bloods danced’. Astrea’s gaze drifteover to the tall form of the headmaster, whose head popped out from the masses of first, second and third years. She frowned, the corners of her lips twitching southward. The tone was off, as if looking down of muggle dances and showing off that others were superior.

The muggle dances confused Astrea, they confused her and she didn’t get the high pace energy of whatever she heard in another language from through the walls of the GleamGate manor. And yet she had a feeling that muggle dances were just as varied as pure blood. As the blue blood heir she was, she didn’t learn just one traditional pure blood dance. She learned multiple, of different cultures and appearances and dress. Perhaps it was due to the sheer variation between the FourBloodline’s allies, perhaps it was because her possible suitors from a time ago had come from all across the world.

Her thoughts were dissolved as someone approached her, breaking the circle of negative space without thought. Tall- well, tall for the 4’5 1/2 Astrea at least- with straight hair of jet and deep brown eyes peeking out of a plain black mask. Deep blue suit, pale skin. Looked completely miserable within the confines of the ballroom, whether it be the tacky music or the mass of people, she did not know. Wholly ordinary in appearance, and yet Astrea mentally had to give him some credit for breaching the invisible wall that has been put up around her.

“Hi.” The other said, nodding slightly in a hello.

Astrea’s mid tone eyes were piercing as she attempted to discern the point of the other approaching her, tracking his face like a bird to prey. It didn’t last long, of course, and after a few seconds of that, the edges of Astrea’s mouth pulled up in a micro expression of pleasantry. It wasn’t much, but it was certainly noticeable to those watching.

“Good evening.”

The words rolled off her tongue smoothly, an slight accent indistinguishable yet still unmistakably aristocratic twirling them into delicate ice sculptures of gentle greeting.

As the situation devolved  between Erin and Quinn into a brawl that involved more than just the two in their private war, three others inserted themselves into their public battle. The masked Headmaster seemed peripherally interested in the ruckus but not enough to leave the lovely former Professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts. "Are they often like this?" He commented, "so dramatic" he added with incredible irony. "First the dhampir youth... that is what the pallid boy fixated on blood was, right? And his feminine counterpart in some sort of domestic skirmish and now this part-giant and some pretty little thing," he observed shaking his head as he made a tsking noise. "Perhaps it was a mistake infesting this school with such miscreants when you have such good blood already dedicated to this educational institution as legacies," he complained. His bloodline purity was showing. He was still dancing but he stopped just then and sighed, "you look incredibly lovely darling but I suppose I should..." he sounded as if he was tasked with a frustratingly trivial errand as he drew his wand and looked to the fight between Erin and Quinn.

He would have done something had it not been for the three whom intervened. The fight between Erin and Quinn had come to an end as abruptly as it began. @Quinn Healy protected the first year @Leah Isbell from an undeserved pummeling due to a case of mistaken identity. That was a consequence of having an intelligence of 2... unfortunately Quinn's gallant effort would be rewarded with shame, disappointment and being dog-piled by the other students. Quinn broke the Slythein's hand in his powerful grip, the Hufflepuff would have likely crushed the third-year bully had others left them to battle. However @Kyle DeRook recklessly assailed the part-giant, failing to consider his own safety as he white knighted for a 'stranger.' His blow to the part-giant was enough to free Erin from his vice-like grip as she kicked the giant away and found herself on the floor. In addition to the Quidditch Captain's intervention, @Griseldis Edelhardt left her almost-date with @Alan Noble and she would put Quinn Healy in a choke hold, reducing the poor teen to tears as the will to fight left the teen. Meanwhile, @Santario Martin clumsily tackled Kyle DeRook, breaking her own arm in the process and leaving the Gryffindor Quidditch Captain with a concussion.

The result was the part giant subjugated, somewhat tearful, some trend-setter rebel tween on top of some other girl and a few stunned, potentially confused, concerned or scuffed youth standing along the periphery.
Santario Martin and Kyle DeRook were the first two to leave.
There was no longer a need for the Headmaster's intervention as the Slytherin and Gryffindor walked off and @Rosie Parker, another student made her way to the periphery of this tense situation that seemed to be naturally defusing. He lowered his wand to address Professor @Elaine Pendrast, "I am terribly sorry. The state of the magical world and the insistence of inclusiveness..." There was a sound of frustration from the man. He was segueing into an intended conversation somewhat naturally due to the events at this ball. After all it had been on his mind from the start. "I have noticed the... difficulties in your school. How this school allows such dangerous creatures to roam about untethered. Have you ever considered the possibility that your Headmaster might be inadequate to manage this school?" It was a truth even a casual observer could make, Solomon was not as young as he used to be and he was never even in his moments of fame a known leader, he was just a well-known personality. His interest in magical creatures besides humans might be at the expense of human children. In fact, it likely was. Schools did not admit lycanotropes or dhampirs, there was a reason for this - they were dangerous.

"There are a number of concerns I have in fact noticed during my short stay here," he added. Yes, he wanted something. Of course he wanted something.

Meanwhile Erin tried to convince those that remained to let her bring Quinn  Healy to the nurse rather poorly. While some of them might have been born at night, it was not last night. @Rosie Parker volunteered to take Quinn away and @Jack Warren offered to escort his apparent girlfriend to the medical wing to be looked over as well. They were all going to the same place, it was simply a second opportunity for everything to devolve again into a dispute.
Quin, Rosie, Erin and Warren -- you can leave the topic in your next post before everything that follows goes down or you can stay. If you leave, there will be a separate thread. If you stay, you are locked in.
There were other students here in the ball, ignoring or idly observing the chaos -- such as @Andrew Vance and @Heather Ruby who were just trying to dance. Wolf-girl @Mari Haynes and @George Taylor had a strange dynamic of biting and then dancing while one of them bled. A splotch of red on George's shoulder made his wound apparent. "Like that," the Headmaster pointed out. "What is with the biting and the casual acceptance of it? Should I... we... be concerned about this?" Indeed they should, not only was Mari a werewolf who was in human-form at least when she bit into the Hufflepuff youth but there was still a dhampir in the room. @Nico Shymane was at the time conversing with @Jane Victoria when the incident happened and the sweet scent of blood started to fill the air. While the needs of a dhampir might have been satisfied, they might be nourished... they would never be full. There were no goblets of blood, no sanguine lollipops, no crunchy clot bars and yet they were sitting in a sea of food.

Simon Belanger (dNPC) was an idiot and was going to probably get himself killed before the giants got to him as he planned to prank the Headmaster with his soon-to-be- paramour Alexx. Not because Solomon could not take a joke, that was questionable. Rather, because the man in that suit of armor really could not take a joke. The Headmaster's back was to him, perhaps this was his chance.

The were still others that were trying to enjoy their time at the dance. Many were peripherally aware but numb to it all. Some were concerned but knew better than to insert themselves into something that was none of their business. There were so many others that could intervene. That should intervene. That would do a better job than them. In the end it would resolve, the last one did. This one did. The next one would too. A gathering of socially familiar students would form, many of them had survived disaster before. In fact many of them learned that teamwork and togetherness was now to survive. @Serena Towers whom was already in a conversation with @Adalai Rod and @Reid Kovacs would meet up with other familiar faces such as @Eri Windstone and @Eris Fawley. They knew what to do, how to survive, probably. @Adam Harrington and @Phaedra Stavrou probably did not, his sort rarely got mixed up in disaster somehow. Others were new to the near-death experiences that had become synonymous with their education such as @Lark Flaer  and@Astrea Soleil Neptune,  were simply trying to enjoy the ball or their respective dates.

Late-comer @Hugh Lowe, who never shows up to school functions, being wise enough to avoid most of the traumatic events in Hogwarts decided to come to this ball of all balls. Not that he was dressed for the occasion.  He would attract Nico, Mari and George's attention due to his size alone. There was an underlying sense of paranoia for some of the youth here regarding part-giants, while it would seem like madness at first, that would soon change. Hugh just entered the wrong place at one of the worst possible times.

His enjoyment, like the other dance-goers was not to be deterred with such dramatics as Iris Fields's (dNPC) medical condition as the girl passed out without warning or apparent reason. @Teiki Laurent  dragged the unconscious American past @Christopher Madison and out of the ballroom, Additional late-comers @Sophie Amour, @Elizabeth Smith and @Angela Nelson would have missed the dramatics at this point, but would be passing this tense situation of a frail girl on the floor being aided by her friend as they entered the ballroom. Fellow American Karilyna Kawahara (dNPC) would also be drawn out of the ballroom follow the duo (Iris and Teiki) into the hall. She would try to help while the unconscious girl had a nightmare. @Astrid Kovac (dNPC) would make a viable suggestion -- they should go to the hospital wing.
They are outside of the dance at this time. They would be on the otherside of the door when it is slammed shut later in the post.

Meanwhile others such as Professor @Zahid al-Benghazi ibn Masoud, @Elliot Price, and @Caradoc Browne were drawn away by a part giantess claiming that some Ilvermorny students were being assailed by some Hogwarts students on the grounds. They would walk past @Lamik Fillestar's soap opera dilemma offering no diversion. Little did they know at the time, they were walking into a trap. Adults were hardly the target of choice for hags but that would not stop the hag from destroying the trio in the Forbidden Forest. [Hag Encounter 1]
The three of them: @Zahid al-Benghazi ibn Masoud, @Elliot Price and @Caradoc Browne  left the ball.
@Hjørdis Jensen was also drawn out of the ballroom by an unrelated incident, one involving @Kaegen Deathmote. She would be told of Caradoc's intended course, but they would part paths. Oddly enough, the paranoid boy was not wholly wrong about his death witches, but they were hags, not death witches and they had in fact infiltrated this school. They were among the student body, possibly even the staff. Perhaps soon enough to be among the staff.

@Hjørdis Jensen has left the topic. There is a thread that continues with their story here. [Follow-up]
@Thora Larkston and Bridget would notice the fact that the chaperone staff was thinning. The sense of something terrible would warn Bridget that something was wrong but logic was doing a fine enough of a job. Terrible things often happened at gathering such as these, history had a bad habit of repeating itself. this would prove no different as the Professors were driven way due to crisis after crisis. This would prove to be the opportunity that they were waiting for. She would see one of the part giants pull something from his suitjacket, flat and silver. Large but still only the size of his hand, which was akin to about a toddler's head. (Ability use prevented her from being a target of his next action.)

After the Head of House for Slytherin and Hufflepuff left with their Professor escorts, the two part giants left in the room would act. They scanned the room and found the best possible opportunity - young boy with a girl talking to him. He was not in a particularly large group, just to two of them. One of them intended to snatch the unsuspecting youth - random roll 53 (mention]Jorah Moussa[/mention]). He was on a fine first date, enjoying his Halloween oblivious to the chaos surrounding him. A rough grab of the arm, powerful enough to dislocate an arm from a socket if the boy struggled as the part giant grunted "kid you're coming with me." No reason stated, no destination declared. It was a demand, no command.

Variables: If his date, @Ruthie Greer protested, the part giant would attempt to strike the girl in the chest with the palm of their hand (6) but they would miss (18), the nimble little girl moved out of the way (if she attempted to stop the kidnapping).

Variables: If Ruthie Greer attempted to grab (16) hold of the part giant, her tiny hands would grip the part giant's navy suit-jacket (4). He would attempt to peel the girl off of him (8), and while her attempt to hold on might be valiant (16) it was not enough to keep hold of him as she was peeled off of him. He was significantly stronger.

Everything was happening so fast of course. Jorah's wrist was tightly grippped by the part giant. He did not have a chance to secure his holdings of course (4) as Jorah slipped free of the part giant's intense grip. While not incredibly accurate, once he took hold of the boy, there was likely no escape. Jorah was not known for his brawn.

"Damn brat!" He snapped as he failed to snatch the boy. "Do as you're ¥£€₩ing told!" He roared as he made a second attempt to grab (19) the boy. He was slippery, almost not slippery enough.

The part giants were big enough to be adults. Was Jorah in some sort of trouble? What did he do? Something was wrong, more wrong than this. Adults dont talk like this. They dont ask like this. Something was not right. This was not normal nor was this the work of a rogue disciplinarian.

The second part-giant at the door, waiting impatiently for their partner to pass as they performed this brazen kidnapping. "Get the kid outta here you dumbass!" The waiting giant shouted as he pulled the cap from the silver object he withdrew moments earlier and took a swig from it. "Useless ¥£€₩!" He shouted the profanity at the lumbering, comparatively sluggish part giant that failed twice to apprehend the nimble Ravenclaw.

Too obvious to ignore.

The metal music would come to a stop.

The varied faceless NPCs would finally stop.

What was happening here! Why was it happening! Why did something always happen at Hogwarts gatherings! It was like they were cursed. The masked Headmaster would let out another sigh. "This cannot be serious," he complained. "More part-giants causing a problem?" The tone of his voice was more akin to having the wrong brand of caviar with his brunch than an actual incident. "This is why you never let their kind indoors," he grumbled as he pulled his more readily available wand from his waist. "Petrificus Totalus!" He was not going to deal with this any longer. The Headmaster screamed as he flicked his wand in a lateral direction with a slight hook at the very end. his wand ended pointed in the direction of the part giant.

The cast was flawless...

It was also ineffective.

"We're leaving kid," the part giant grunted to Jorah. The part giant ally was blocking the door, preventing both ingress and egress. "People are going to get --" he spoke through his teeth.

The only other Professors left in the ball is @Maya Galim and @Boniface Murtagh MacTavish were left in the ballroom. Merlin, save these students because it is unlikely that either of these Professors will be of any help.

The part giant would attempt to drag the kid off. A small crowd of students separated the remaining Professors from the duo. His partner would fling his open flask at the crowd and the dancefloor. It was vodka, cheap vodka.

Then he withdrew a lighter. With the snap of his thumb, the lighter was lit and tossed towards the vodka-soaked ballroom and student Jurgen Hess. Both the floor and the attire of the boy lit aflame.

Woosh!

It had been a very stressful night...

First there was the embarrassment of showing up in a pumpkin costume when he hadn't known he was supposed to just wear a mask...

Then scary Headmaster Lear had yelled at him, thinking he'd done something bad...when he hadn't and would never.

Then there was his most-of-the-time-friend George getting bitten all because of him...

But now everything was about to get much, much worse - because suddenly, before Jake's eyes, the Great Hall was alight. Glowing flame rose up into the air - everywhere - accompanied by a dark plume of smoke. A fire!!

Jake screamed.

The little boy had been sitting on the ground against the wall - eating his cookies and drinking his punch in private, where nobody would make fun of his costume. Now he was staring up at an inferno. Jake, who wasn't allowed to play with fire - who had never even been allowed near an oven - could feel the heavy heat from the flames upon his skin. They danced before his glimmering eyes, sweat forming on his brow as he stared into the colors. He wanted to run away but was paralyzed. He didn't know what he was supposed to do...and he couldn't think. With widened eyes, he instinctually looked up for a familiar face - his parents, Professor Browne, one of the older kids - but his parents were far far far away and the only other thing he saw was a sea of masks.

Terrified, Jake sobbed, pulling the neck of his costume up and ducking his head inside of it, now just a trembling pumpkin with legs curled up to his chest. Fire. Everywhere. Nowhere to run. He was going to burn. He needed a grown-up. They had to wait for the grown-ups to handle it. The grown-ups would save them. But what if they didn't? What if there wasn't time? What if they were all going to die? Jake cried and shook and cowered away from flames that were growing by the second.

Permission given to Godmod Ruthie

Jorah was listening to Ruthie's answer on whether she wanted to dance when someone grabbed his arm forcefully, grunting, "kid you're coming with me." What's going on?!?", Jorah demanded, "what did I do?" Something was wrong, whoever this guy was, they were being too rough. Ruthie protested what was happening and that's when Jorah's suspicions were confirmed. The assailant swiped at Ruthie with one of his gigantic palms. Luckily, she saw it coming and moved out of the way, dodging a blow to the chest. "Hey!," Jorah screamed, "Don't you touch her, you big freak!" With that Jorah managed to escape the half-giant's grasp. "Damn brat! Do as you're ¥£€₩ing told!," the monster roared. He went to grab Jorah again, but he only just missed him, clawing at Jorah's dress robes with the tips of his fingers.

Jorah wasn't much of a duelist, but he had one thing going for him, he was a beater! Jorah kicked out a table leg, prying it from its table top. Now he had a bat. The half-giant was much too tall for him to make contact with it's head. Maybe if someone could trip the monster with a tablecloth, he could bash its face in, but until then, he needed a closer target. Jorah gripped his makeshift bat tightly and went in for a backbeat aimed directly toward the giant's most vulnerable area, its genitals. It's not a bludger, but a ball is a ball, thought Jorah. SMACK!

Mentions Quinn-Erin situation
Leah's gaze was torn from where the scene in front of her was dissolving, as the other students offered to take each other to the hospital wing, and over to where someone was yelling at a tall student grabbing at another. Goodness, why was everyone fighting tonight? She looked away tiredly, trying to ignore the swearing and curses for once.

And then the fire began.

She jumped back and screamed, watching as one boy was set on fire and others were reacting. The music had stopped, along with all the dancers, and the world was frozen in flames. With little more warning than a shout for everyone to get away, she tore across the room, trying to stay away from the burning inferno.

There was one thing on her mind: make sure her friends were safe. Most importantly, her best friend, Adlai.

There she was! With some other people in masks that Leah didn't know, but they must be friendly for Adlai to be hanging out with them. She may as well see if she could help them too.

"Adlai!" she called. "We need to get out of here!" She dodged her way to her friend before addressing the others (@Serena Towers, @Reid Kovacs and others). "What do we do?"

After all, they looked more experienced and would probably know what to do far better than her.

"I'd love to," Ruthie replied, "I'll be sure not to loose the flowers." She took Jorah's hand to go out to the dance floor. The head banging he suggested wasn't exactly what she'd had in mind, but from the way he held her hair, she'd go for it. "I'd bet two galleons I out dance you," she offered as they stepped away from the table and across the floor. But that was just when she heard a gruff voice behind her, gruff and aggressive. It was a tone she didn't take to kindly so she turned around only to see a huge giant behind them. Her jaw dropped and she swallowed before realizing the giant was speaking to Jorah.

"Get away from him!" she yelled reaching for Jorah's shoulder to lead him away from the giant. But she wasn't quick enough. Before she knew it, the giant's hand was reaching for her, about to hit her straight in the chest. Quickly, she turned and rolled onto the floor safely out of the giant's way, only to hear Jorah's protective commands. This was not good.

She watched in horror as the giant tried to grab Jorah, but luckily Jorah managed to slip out of his grip. From the door she could see another giant, who called for the first to get Jorah out of the room--to kidnap him! Not on my watch, Ruthie thought.

As the music came to a stop, she reached for her wand. Quickly, she tried to think of what spell might be best, but being so early in her first year, there wasn't too much to go off. "Tarantellagra!" she yelled pointing her wand at the first giant who was attempting to drag off her very best friend. Dancing might knock him off his feet if he was lucky. She stood up after firing, eager to see what damaged she had caused, not noticing that her mask had fall onto the floor after her earlier tumble missing the swipe from the giant. As she did so, she noticed Jorah had found a kind of make shift beater's bat. Good idea considering Jorah is best with his physical strength.

So focused on her best friend's kidnapping was she that she didn't notice the fire that had started in the rest of the room, including one kid who was legitimately on fire. "Merlin," she muttered under breath, hoping other older students would be able to help. There was much to be done.

Shouting was the first sign that something else had gone wrong. The second was that all the music suddenly stopped and she heard someone cast a spell.

Heather Ruby waited at their table as her date @Andrew Vance went back onto the crowded dancefloor looking for her lost eyeglasses. This wasn't a child's yell but an adult's roar of anger. Another boy was screaming at that adult. That was not normal. She got up from her chair; guide cane clutched tightly in her hands. The lightweight aluminum staff wasn't the best weapon, but when folded, it could do for a club in a pinch. She had never heard a kidnapping in progress before, but what else would cause such a fuss? She listened hard, closing her useless eyes and blocking out the blurry sea of movement and color. She heard the splash of something, the whoosh of flame and smell of smoke told her the rest.

That jerk just lit a fire in here?! We'll have a stampede in a minute!

Feeling for her punch glass, she grabbed it, running towards the source of the yelling. She knew it was stupid and dangerous to run in unfamiliar pathways, but this wasn't the first time. Most of the kids back at her School for the Blind had done the same, though none of them knew why.

@Solomon Lear (hat half-giant attempting a kidnapping), @Jorah Moussa

Using her hearing, she headed for the giant, throwing her punch glass at him as a distraction to try and help that boy fighting it off.

@Jake Morris She heard another boy screaming up ahead, tripped over his pumpkin costume as she felt and heard the nearby fire. She felt the orange blob in front of her eyes, trying not to look at the dancing hot glow or else risk becoming paralyzed herself by it. "GET UP!" she screaming at the boy, reaching inside the folds of the suit and grabbing at him. "UP! GET UP AND GET OUT OF HERE!"

"...I spy-" Everything slowed, as her eyes fell on one particularly tall student- no, not a student, a half-giant. "Him." She had found her man. Black pupils slotted in a yellow iris. She saw red. Red. Red everywhere. She locked onto her prey as soon as she had spotted him. "You're a dead man, you just don't know it yet." She leapt from the chair, snarling, eyes specked with flakes of red. She was beyond angry.

She bolted through the crowd, ignoring the fire. She had one objective. She wanted that Half-Giant dead. And if she couldn't get him out of the doorway, she would make sure that he burned with the rest of the students. Schrödinger kept up as she ran. She was dressed for this. She gave the man no warning, she just jumped at him. Schrödinger flung himself forward. If he made the jump, he would latch onto the mans back, and tunnle underneath his shirt. If the jump was unsuccessful he would attack the mans legs. Xailah on the other hand had the intention of doing some serious damage.

She was going to give him a scar that gloves would not be able to hide. She would try to leap, and latch onto the Giants front. Claws made from bent needles and earring backings, would puncture through the fabric of his coat, digging into the firm flesh beneath. "Remember me? Lets fucking tango." She hissed, pulling up her mask, revealing two rows of sharp pearly-whites. She was not afraid to play dirty if the situation called for it- and, this situation called for it. Needle-like teeth would dig into the mans neck. There was no holding back. If her leap was unsuccessful she would use her umbrella as a jousting rod, and ram into him with little remorse.

Before me, you rightly tremble. But, fear is not what you owe me. You owe me awe....

The action was taken before the fecal matter hit the fan before the half-giant attack
Jack reached out his hand towards Erin. Maybe if he could just get this girl out the ballroom everything would calm down. He didn't understand her random-seeming attraction to him, but he was going to try and use it as leverage to calm down this whole situation. Whether or not she would take his hand, Jack turned towards the entrance. He cared about stopping the situation but didn't enough to force this girl to leave. "Your hand is really messed up. It would be a bad idea to stick around." was all he really had to say to the girl. The noisy ballroom was starting to get on his nerves anyway, so it would be the right move in any situation to leave.

Whether Erin was in tow or not, Jack started his timely exit. The slight pinprick of pain registered as he chewed on the inside of his cheek. There was the urge to pop his knuckles again. With a lithe grace and, he twisted and turned his torso to slip in between the mass of well dressed and masked students. His brow creased slightly as a worry pinged at the back of his head. The fight between the redhead and Erin was absolutely his fault. Finally, the large entrance doors were directly in front of him. It was time to leave, and so he did.
