A Beautiful Lake

i strolled down to the Lake, a smile on my face. nearly every day, i'd decided i would come down to the massive lake and read a book. it seemed calming, watching the water move and ripple, the leaves flying around.
i tugged my book out of my tote bag, i sat down on the roots of an oak tree. i spent at least ten minutes trying to find my page before realising my bookmark fell out. i sighed in relief when i found my page until i realised i'd lost the bookmark. i rolled my eyes, irritated.
i stood up, hoping to see my bookmark where i'd been sitting. it wasn't there. i walked around the tree, keeping a close eye on the ground as i searched for it. i followed my footsteps back up to the way i came down to the lake. i couldn't find it.
after searching for a while, i gave up and sat back down by the tree. i had a spare one for emergencies but i'd lost my favourite one.
i had gained my love for reading from my brother. he had written many drafts for books but had never released any of them. i was the only person allowed to read his drafts.
i looked up and saw a girl that looked my age by the Lake. i smiled softly and stood going to greet the girl.

┏ It was a nice end-of-summer day, and Lyanna decided to go outside to her favorite spot by the lake. She was going to write in her journal, as she did almost every day to clear her thoughts before going to bed, but today was the perfect occasion to enjoy the nice weather by writing. As Lyanna started to make her way towards the water, she looked at the giant lake shimmering, the rays of sun reflecting off it. The Hogwarts grounds were always so pretty! For a moment she even wondered what the Forbidden Forest was like. As she looked around, she noticed something else - another girl was outside too! And to top it off, she looked like a first year like Lyanna. So she decided to see who it was, when the girl saw her too. The first year stood up and started walking towards Lyanna. Noticing that, Lyanna decided to go and meet her too and as she got close enough to really see who it was, she noticed that it was a Gryffindor she'd never seen before. The girl had wavy brunette hair and blue eyes, and she was a bit shorter than Lyanna. "Hi, I'm Lyanna. How are you?" She said kindly.

"hi! nice to meet you, i'm evangeline but you can call me eva. it's very pretty out here, huh?" i smile widely at the girl. She seems friendly.
i hadn't met many people and i wanted to meet many people. i had always been a very outgoing person and at home had made many friends, despite my mother disliking them. i hoped to do the same at hogwarts.
"the water looks so pretty, it almost makes me want to swim in it." i laugh, my eyes lighting up.
i stared out across the water of the great lake, watching the wind make ripples through it. greenery around most of the edge of the beautiful lake. the sun was settled behind the trees beyond the lake and i smiled.
i'd always had an appreciation for nature. i grew up with a forest behind my house and spent almost all of my time there.
i looked across the Lake, a few small brown bird flying over the lake, their feet grazing the top of the lake.
"you come down here a lot?" i asked softly, turning back to lyanna.
i hadn't spent much time here but i had a feeling it would become a fun spot for me to hang out in regularly.

┏ ❝Nice to meet you too Eva!" Lyanna said, smiling, "You're right, it's really lovely here in the grounds."
Lyanna had come here often, but almost always alone. Reading and writing were things she loved to do, but now that there was another girl here too, she realized how much she had missed out on by never coming here with friends.
"You're right, I've never swum in the lake before! I should totally do that sometime. It's so big, I'll bet a prefect would never catch us--I mean, me," she said after the girl called Eva stated that the water looked pretty and said it was worth a swim. When Lyanna first said us, instead of me, she said it unconsciously. But now, she realized that that could actually be what she meant! In other words, what could be more fun on a sunny summer day than swimming in the beautiful lake with a friend?
After taking a glance over at the lake again, a few birds flying just above it, she turned back to Eva and answered her last question;
"I love coming down here. It's so peaceful, it's the perfect place to read, write and simply just relax after a long day of class or during the weekend. Sometimes I even do homework here actually. How about you?" And without being able to resist the urge any longer, Lyanna finished, "by the way, how would you like to take a swim in the lake together?"

"a prefect would catch us for sure.. i wish we could swim in there without getting into trouble but i understand why we can't swim in there. i mean so many creatures and plants and stuff." i said softly, watching the water ripple under the light breeze. around the edge of the lake, i noticed lots of green leaved plants that i didn't recognise. i would go look them up in the library later.
"i'm so grateful i'm a witch, otherwise i would have never seen this beautiful castle and the surrounding grounds. i also love the lessons, they're so interesting!" i spoke excitedly.
i picked up a leaf from a nearby tree and began tearing it into tiny pieces. once i had at least ten pieces i threw them into the air and chuckled softly as the pieces floated in the air before descending slowly.
"autumn is my favourite season, all the beautiful leaves and trees. what's your favourite season?" i ask, looking at lyanna curiously.
"i'd love to take a swim sometime, but maybe in the summer when it warms up a bit? it's a bit too chilly out here to swim. but i'd love to. that's such a good idea.even thought it's very scary-" i smiled widely.

"i cant believe you want to go swimming and maybe get caught, we're barely into the term." i chuckled, smiling at lyanna. my eyes widened in shock and surprise as lyanna jumped straight into the water. i quickly looked over the edge of the water, hoping she's okay.
the water rippled as lyanna sank beneath the surface. i hoped that she could swim, but realised she wouldn't have gone in if she couldn't swim. the water was crystal clear as i waited for lyanna to return to the surface.
"happy birthday for five days, but i think i'll stick to staying out of the lake. who knows what's lurking under the surface-" i said, putting on a fake scary tone.
i notice lyanna light up her wand and see what she is looking at. the giant squid.
my eyes widen in shock, surprise and fear.
"you should get out, what if it hurts you?" i say in concern, unsure what the squid will do. i've never read that much about squids so i dont know very well how they behave and if they can injure you. i engrave it in my head that i should go to the library soon and read up on the creature.
"are you okay, lyanna?" i ask softly.
