Rosie stuck up one more thumb of reassurance before trailing over to the two, hand outstretched to meet Sylvie's to shake. Thomas didn't hold out a hand, which Rosie didn't really notice. "Rosie Parker, nice to meet you. Feel free to make a nickname out of the nickname, a few friends of mine like the name Ro, if you're into two letter names." She put down her hand back into her pocket, along with her other one. The library got weirdly cold, especially when it was also getting chilly outside, and the new feeling of cold air brushing against the back of her neck did not help the chills. Cutting her hair had one (1) disadvantage.

She turned to see the doors fly open, her eyebrows raising. Rosie was expecting it to be one of her over dramatic friends, but in came yet another first year, clearly on a mission. She almost looked back to Sylvie and Thomas before realizing the girl was walking up to them. She rose her hand to wave to her, but the girl had already shoved her hand out to Rosie expectantly. She grinned, shaking her hand as well. "Rosie Parker, it's a pleasure." She didn't say much about the 'loser' part.

It was at this point before realizing she had never answered Sylvie's question. "Oh! Yeah, I am. The great age of thirteen," she announced sarcastically. Rosie paused. "... You guys got questions? I know my first year there were still a lot of things I didn't know, so I'd be happy to try to help if you've got some confusion left." She offered, adjusting her scarf a bit since the cold air against her neck was getting annoying. "Even though, honestly, there are still things about this place I don't understand."

Thomas went though a series of motions that he frequently practiced. It wasn't the first time Tally had thought it'd be a great idea to scare him, but his generally subdued nature kept the reaction from being explosive. He tensed up, took a deep breath in as if to shout, but remained silent until he looked up at his cousin, murderous intent in his eyes. However, the sharp look faded almost as quickly as it had come, a decidedly neutral expression plastered on his face instead. Despite only being eleven years old, it was clear Tommy had already gotten the cold, silent type archetype down pat. "Hi, Tally," he mumbled just loud enough to be heard. He was miffed that he'd been caught lackin' in front of this stranger, but he'd never admit to actually appreciating the teasing.

His gaze drifted from Tally to Rosie as she spoke, listening to her words intently. Why was this random third year offering to give advice to a couple of newbies? Was she actually that nice, or was this some sort of elaborate ruse to try and make Thomas and Sylvie forgot that she'd just dropped a whole book on her head? From the brief interaction he'd had with her thus far, he suspected the former, but didn't discount the latter.

The boy remained silent at the offer of questions. Not that Tommy didn't have any, in sharp contrast he had loads, but he didn't want to be the first one to admit he hadn't a clue what was going on. Plus, he didn't want to accidentally bombard this Rosie girl with inquiries, making him seem like a total loser, just like a certain someone accused him of being.

Sylvie gave Tally her usual friendly hard slap on the back in greeting. Perhaps it was the rope the quieted the sound, but luckily it wasn't too disruptive. Not enough to earn another "Shh," from the other library-goers just trying to study. "Wow... I'm surprised to see you here too. Totally not your speed." She grinned, before turning back to Rosie, listening to her offer and pondering it for just a moment. She was struggling in her classes a bit. The adjustment process of being transferred from one small muggle school to one gargantuan school of wizardry was not a very easy one. The history of magic was not at all her best subject. "Well..."

"Actually, you know what? I could kind of use a study partner or a tutor or something... I'm kind of having a rough time with my history and transfiguration classes. Mostly history. I can never seem to pay attention to the lectures." She rubbed the back of her head a bit sheepishly but ended up just sighing and ending with, "I don't really want to fall behind within my first month here, my mom would kill me, I think." It was obvious that she would appreciate any help that she could get. Besides, Rosie seemed nice enough.

Her eyes crinkled at the corners as she cheesed, shoulders shaking as she giggled to herself at Thomas' reaction, although his motions were expected. After Sylvie's quip and slap on the back, Tally tossed an arm over her shoulders and let it hang there loosely. With a shake of her head, she focused on the words being said. "A study group sounds fun, but luckily I've got everything I need," she lifted a finger to her forehead and tapped a few times, "all in here. Packed at maxed capacity but we're doing a-okay. I think. History of magic can be a real stick-in-the-mud though, so.." Tally trailed off as she swished her mouth.

The brunette's smile was friendly and thankful as her gaze turned to Rosie. "It really would be nice of you to help, but it's understandable if you can't, since you've got your own stuff to deal with. Studies.. and all that."

She nudged Thomas with her free arm. "But what about you, smarty-pants? Think a study group would help out?" Her teasing of him being in Ravenclaw would probably never end, or any teasing at all. She grew up with finding some little thing about him to talk about. Perhaps this was just her way of showing how proud of him she was, because he had always been the smarter of the two.

"But what about you, smarty-pants? Think a study group would help out?"
Tommy had just started to hope that he'd remained fairly overlooked in the conversation, when his lovely cousin decided to prove him wrong. Tally seemed fond of doing that at every possible scenario. It was annoying, but it also kept Thomas from developing too much of an ego. In a way, he was grateful for it in small doses, but sometimes it got to be a lot. Especially in front of strangers; he didn't appreciate being (at least from his perspective) embarrassed in front of people he didn't know. Grumbling a bit before responding, Tommy was sure to have an expression of mild distaste at the offer of a study group.

"I don't really like studying in groups. It always seemed like more trouble than what it was worth." A solitary kid by nature, the idea of a study group somewhat affronted him. Not to mention, Tommy's over-zealous approach to self reliance kept him from studying with others anyways. He may not have been a Gryffindor, but he inherited his father's pride, and Thomas didn't like the idea of sacrificing that for the sake of studying with friends. Besides, thus far, he hadn't actually been struggling much at all with coursework.

"Maybe you guys will like it, though," he added, mostly as consolation. He didn't want to seem elitist, despite the fact that he definitely was.

ooc: sorry abt the delay! (ik ive said tht like three times via discord but its ok)
The other two seemed to know Tal as well, replying with slightly less enthusiastic greetings, but it was clear they were at least friends. Rosie turned to head to face Sylvie, who had started talking after the brief period of silence. She smiled a bit when she mentioned the idea of a study partner. Rosie also faced similar struggles with history and transfiguration in her first year. Transfiguration was just because the idea of doing spells like that were still bizarre. History class was just hard to focus on. But at the end of the day, she got knowledge from both classes and could probably help them out!

Before she had a chance to respond, Tally had added on to what Sylvie said, acknowledging that maybe Rosie had some more work on her plate to do first. She rubbed the back of her neck, thinking back to her homework. She had picked up on two more electives, but it wasn't much different from the studying she already did. Maybe she could handle it? Rosie nodded at Tommy when he said he didn't really like studying in groups. If it wasn't his thing, that was fine. "The offer's always there just in case." She said to Tommy, smiling a bit.

"I think I could fit in a study group," she decided, nodding. "I didn't really like history my first year either, so I get it. Maybe we can come here like... Once a week, if you guys have questions?" She asked, shrugging. "Until I sign up for Quidditch again when positions open up, my time after class is pretty free." Rosie said, reminding herself to sign up. She would be on the waiting list, but when people stepped down, she could try out for the position. She might have waited too long. Procrastination was not fun.
