Much of the year had passed without incident for Edwin Westbridge, managing to meander through his classes and duels with as little effort as possible. Whilst this lack of effort was characteristic of Edwin, there had been an ongoing, year long project that had been anything but characteristic. A boy who as a child would throw tantrums in response to being made to read, a boy who wouldn't so much as consider taking part in anything extra-curricular (besides Duelling, of course as he had always had an afinity for that kind of activity). That very same boy had now spent almost an academic year willingly reading into Werewolves, absorbing every bit of information that he could, on occasion reading for so long that he would find himself being shaken awake in the library and hurried off back to his dorm. All of this reading was in an attempt to answer a singular question - why is it that Werewolves should be admitted to Hogwarts? There had been conversations, of course, and debates with others who had attempted to provide an answer but none had been satisfactory. Many had argued along the lines of 'it's only fair to provide the same chance, it isn't there fault', or something equally pathetic. And whilst perhaps that statement itself is true, werewolves were, at their core, incredibly dangerous and evil creatures and the risk far seemed to outweigh any kind of benefit.

It simply seemed foolish to admit them to the school.

Today, though, Edwin would turn the page. He would put this obsession behind him, it was childish for him to have been enthralled by it for so long and so early in the morning, Edwin set off the library with a bag filled with books, and an additional book in hand. He'd be returning all of the werewolf related literature he had taken from the library, not wanting to even be tempted to relapse and continue with his reading. If he were to ever do any extra curricular reading again, it'd be to learn how to blow something up with magic, none of this vaguely academic nonsense.

The walk to the library from his dorm was one that he'd became incredibly familiar with, enough to do so on autopilot, becoming completely unaware of his surrondings as he maneovered through the castles corridors.

This autopilot would be the Gryffindors undoing on this morning. Edwin had rounded a corner into another corridor, just as a door had been swung open. Blissfully unaware of his surrodnings, Edwin made no evasive action and continued straight onwards. His face tragically smashed into the door, stumbling backwards as a crash echoed out, the books he had been carrying dropping uncerimoniously onto the ground. Slightly stunned, Edwin blinked and glanced about, hoping that his mishap had gone unnoticed. It hadn't.

Early in the morning, the corridors were a stream of activity, a small group of people having passed by just as Edwin had been assaulted by the door, and more groups were approaching as Edwin reached down to grab his book.

"Tragic," He muttered beneath his breath, dusting off the cover of the book.

Olivia had discovered to her horror that she had a lot of homework that needed to be done. She had tried to concentrate in the common room but it was way too messy so she had gone outside. But outside she had only been distracted by other things. So she had gone back inside.

Once inside she had found an empty classroom she had settled into. There she had been able to concentrate and managed to finish some homework. She had just started her Potions homework but discovered that she had forgotten her book in the dorm. She stood up straight and slammed the door open.

But then she heard something hard hit the door and something fall to the floor. She turned and saw a guy. Damn it! She must have accidentally slammed the door open on him!

"Sorry, sorry, sorry! I really didn't mean to!" Olivia blurted out quickly. But she paused when she saw the cover of the book. She recognized it, of course she did. She knew all the books about werewolves.

"So you're reading about werewolves?" she asked. "Is it a school project?" she asked too. But Olivia had a strange feeling that the student in front of her was doing this in his free time... and not with goodwill.

The perpetrator of the horrifying door assaulted revealed herself quick enough, offering a series of apologies that Edwin just waved his hand dismissively too. "It's fine, it was an accident." He muttered quickly, checking to make sure nothing had spilled from his bag, which absolutely packed full of books, threatening to burst open at any moment. "Hmm?" He glanced down briefly at the books cover at her question, before offering a nod. "Oh, yeah I am. Been reading about them for a while actually," He began before cutting himself off quickly. How much did he want to share? These conversations in the past had lead to a number of unfruitful debates, often a complete and utter waste of his time and he was passed that. He had moved on from this passion project, and would not allow himself to be drawn back in.

"No, nothing like that." He shook his head. "We don't even cover werewolves until like third year, so it's just been a personal reading interest of mine for most of this year." He turned his shoulder slightly, allowing his backpack to be seen, which appeared just about ready to burst from how many books have been stuffed into it.

Despite his intent to move on and not discuss it, Edwin was not someone who could be described as having good impulse control, and so without even thinking, he began to speak. "Started earlier in the year when I heard about werewolves being allowed to attend the school," He explained. "which I found to be quite.. A bold decision by the school, not one that I could agree with at least so I started to read, as I wanted to see how werewolves are handled."

"And then from that, I read about the wolfsbane potion, which.." He frowned. "just isn't enough, don't you think? Far too annoying of a potion to make for such minimal effects. Not to say it's a bad potion, just not worth the effort from what I have read about it." He glanced down at the book once again, before holding it idly by his side, looking back over in her direction.

"But I can't go down that tangent, I said I was past it. Wasted far too much time reading all of this stuff, especially considering I'll just have to read it all again in a couple of years time." He concluded, stopping himself before he allowed himself to ramble too much. "What do you make of it? Allowing werewolves into the school, I mean. It's too dangerous of a decision in my opinion, very foolish of the school to do so."

Olivia's feeling for the guy in front of her just grew darker and darker. She straightened up, her eyes icy cold. Her response came as a snort: "I disagree. Werewolves are people, it's not right to shut them out for who they are."

“It’s not really their fault they were bitten in the first place,” she continued in an icy voice. “But normal people would never understand them. They only think of them as dangerous and a risk. But being a werewolf is so much more. It’s being judged without knowing anything about you. It’s having to experience incredible pain once a month. It’s never really fitting in, always being different.”

She examined him after saying everything. “Do you even understand how it feels?” she asked in an agitated tone. Olivia felt that she was close to her breaking point of anger or tears, she didn't know. She looked at the guy and knew that his answer would decide it.

Without realizing it, Olivia had also gripped her wand so tightly that her knuckles were showing. She knew she shouldn't be afraid to start a duel. She didn't care if she might lose points or get detention. She would do everything in her power to defend werewolves, to defend herself. Even if he didn't know it.

It was half as Edwin had expected, his inability to stop himself from talking drew him into a conversation that was far too familiar to him by this point, a conversation that he did not care to repeat. However, the derision in response, the immediate defensiveness irritated the Westbridge, spurring him into continuing on.

"They're people, sure," Edwin began in a slow, bored drawl, blue-grey eyes fixing themself on the girl ahead of him. "Perhaps it is cruel to shut them out, but it is safer for all other students. They were initially turnt due to the carelessness of a werewolf, one who did not take care to hide themselves away before a full moon, why should I trust that they are properly contained here at this school?" Edwin shook his head as he continued, allowing for a moments pause whilst he idly turned the book over that was in his hand.

As the girl continued, Edwin's brow raised, continually suprised by the average students willingness to defend such animals. Given her previous reaciton, a small smile played at the edge of the Gryffindors lips, always a fan of an oppurtunity to cause a rise out of someone. "It's the fault of another werewolf though, isn't it?" Edwin stated plainly. "One is innocent, another is guilty. For each werewolf that is 'innocent'," The word seemed to take some effort to get out, Edwins features contorted into an ugly sneer "There is another guilty of biting them, or biting multiple actually."

The girls continued defenses were met with a bored stare, the only sound coming from the Gryffindor was the idle tap of his finger against the books cover as she continued on, and on.

That silence lasted until Edwin felt she had made a particualrly interesting comment, first met with a snort. "How would I understand how it feels?" Edwin continued on with that same, bored drawl, his features now twisted into a grin, evidently rather enjoying the girls rising agitation. "I'm normal, not one of those animals." He continued on. "Are you claiming to understand it? I bet they'd take offense to some random girl claiming to know what it's like, if it's half as bad as you're making it out to be."

As he too concluded, his gaze was drawn downward towards the girls tensed hand, his brown once again raising. "Do it," Edwin bid, his right hand shifting down to grip the book by it's edge, whilst his left hand shifted closer to his own pocket, resting idly atop his wand.

Olivia was about to cast a spell on him but stopped herself at the last second when she saw a teacher at the far end of the corridor. She loosened her grip on her wand and snorted. Then it was as if her brain caught up with her and she understood what she had done and was about to do.

She looked at the Gryffindor standing in front of her and smiled a slightly embarrassed smile. “Sorry, I don’t know what came over me,” she mumbled apologetically. She put her wand away and ran a hand through her short hair.

“My name is Olivia, by the way, Olivia Williams,” she politely extended her hand. “This started off completely wrong,” she continued, examining him. “Maybe we could continue this, er… discussion, a little calmer? Where are you going, we can talk on the way if you don’t mind.”

She looked out the window and fingered her shirt sleeve. It had been close to the eye… far too close. A little longer and she might have dueled, been beaten, or even revealed her secret. She silently swore to herself that this would never happen again and that her brain must always come before her heart.

She looked up at the Gryffindor and waited for his answer.
