"Right..." Virgil nods and looks at his books and parchments that were forgotten on the table with a certain hesitation. He opens it very slowly, just in case any of the two wanted to bring up a new conversation topic (Hey! You never know, right?)so he could stay from his messy notes and the painful headaches that came after trying to understand Transfiguration. "Studying..."

Sighing internally, he dives into reading the Antidote of Common Poison brewing steps again, as it's necessary for the homework Professor Price had given the class. Boooring... Virgil thinks, leaving his face in his hand, forcing his brain to keep his eyes open and actually make out the words written.

Grabbing his quill, he writes down what he thinks is important — not much, honestly, as he isn't paying that much attention —, moving very slowly. His handwriting is a mess — Virge's not even sure he'll be able to make out whatever he's writing down later.

He hums to himself the ballad version of Anxious by The Hobgoblins, Mum's favorite wizard band, trying to pretend he's entertained — wouldn't want his new acquaintances to think he's lazy or anything like that.

The lyrics slip out naturally as Virgil finishes writing step 5 down. He doesn't even notice and just keeps singing to himself, a small smile appearing on his face as he remembers dancing around his living room followed by his mother as the broom cleaned the floor with magic.

When you're enthusiastic
Ecstatic, let's talk about the ecstatic
Scaring at night
You don't wanna be unsure like me
You don't wanna be frustrated like me
Everyone is insecure sometimes

The moment Adlai looked down at her book she heard Virgil’s voice.

She waited and listened, the lyrics were sweet and smooth. She had never heard a song like this before since music was rather restricted due to her mother’s preferences. However, Adlai had always managed to get by with the rock genre behind her parents backs. Most notably music by the band Ghost who’s albums displayed bright colors and patterns and music was drowned with several dark undertones.

“You’re good.” Adlai informed Virgil in a whisper of a voice. Her cheeks during the same shade of red Virgil’s had moments ago. Virgil was nose deep in his school book. She looked at him admirably. The closest she has every come to singing is when she preforms her prayers but then she is within the confines of her dorm room.

She had always envied her friends who were allowed to run up and down the streets during the summer screaming ancient scream folk songs of Iceland at the top of their while she was stuck inside by her grandmother who was softly warbling the sacred text of a book.

"You're good," compliments Adlai in a soft whisper, which makes Virge snap his head towards her.

"O-Oh," Virgil chokes out, covering his mouth, as his entire face burns for being caught. He doesn't sing in front of other people, not even his family! And he doesn't sound good while doing so, therefore the words leave his mouth rather quickly, "I, s-sorry... I didn't even realize— I, uh, thanks?"

It sounds like a question that is even more embarrassing. He shakes his head, playing with the quill in his hand, his voice a little high-pitched as he hides his face behind the curtains of his bangs. Virge's certain they can see how red he looks because— Merlin! He's so stupid!

Virgil scratches his cheek, eyes glued to his book, as he chews at his bottom lip, trying to calm his quick heart. He probably sounded terrible — voice identical to a Mandrake — and they just weren't making fun of him because they're that nice! He focuses on reading, as he remembers the time he was basically forced to sing at the muggle karaoke close to uncle Jay's place.

The place was almost empty, just the owners and his family were there, but still, it was incredibly intimidating. Snitch by The Salem Witches's instrumental started playing as Virgil clung to the microphone, frozen. He stuttered, shaking from his head to toes and couldn't even get the first verse out because running towards the bathroom and throwing up due to the boiling anxiety inside of his stomach.

Definitely not his proudest moments...!

The sound of Virgil’s voice is soft. He sings quietly under his breath and never misses a beat writing, and Isaac admits it’s pretty good. Adlai complements him, and Virgil turns bright red. Isaac agrees.

“Yeah Virge, you’re really good,” Isaac stops himself. “Wait, can I call you Virge?” Isaac stops himself again and snaps his fingers. “Oh, I know!” He smiles, eyes shining. “Virgin!”

He whirled around and pointed a finger at Adlai. “And you could be Fish! For like, fishing Rod. Because you’re last name is Rod?” Isaac shakes his head. “Don’t make me explain it so much it ruins the joke.”

Even though Isaac had isolated himself during his childhood at home, the seldom kids he did know he gave nicknames to. It was just something he did. His mom had told him it was rude, but he didn’t care about that. He thought it was fun.

[quote]Virgin. Right.

The short Slytherin isn't surprised at all when Isaac suggests 'Virgin' as a possible nickname for him, but that doesn't mean he doesn't get embarrassed. So funny... He's heard that joke so many times before he's lost count (uncle Jay just loved to make fun of him for that silly name).

A few years ago, when he was around seven, uncle Jay managed to convince all of his cousins and other relatives to call him 'Virgin' as a very stupid joke and it made him so embarrassed that he asked his mum to start calling him by his second name, Grant.

Now, however, he's not that bothered. It still makes him embarrassed, though — like most things.

"And you could be Fish! For like, fishing Rod. Because your last name is Rod?" Isaac points at Adlai and shakes his head — he looks like he's having fun, Virgil sulks. "Don’t make me explain it so much it ruins the joke."

"Virge is fine." He chokes out, ignoring the little joke, playing with his hair. He shrugs, pretending he doesn't care that much. "Call me Virge and I'll call you..." His tired rest on the dark-haired boy's face, as he hums, thoughtful. Isaac, he repeats in his head, thinking... "Isey or something... I'm not good with nicknames."

Adlai crinkled her nose at the sound of the nicknames Isaac had bestowed upon them both.
Call me Virge and I’ll call you...” Virgil seemed to ponder for a moment before saying, “Isey...or something...I’m not good with nicknames.

Adlai placed a hand on Virgil’s shoulder. She whispered to him,“It’s ok, I’m sure we’ll come up with something clever to get him back with.” Giving him a reassuring smile she turned to Isaac giving him a cocky grin.

Adlai had, had her fair share of nicknames before but mostly by family members. Especially from her grandfather, Tabish Abdel Nour. The one time she had bumped into him, he had begun to call her “Ribcracker.” Her parents found it hilarious but every time she heard it she only felt worse.

Her grandmother, Fjola Rod, couldn’t help but call Adlai “Tarzan,” and “Pickle Nose.” The last nickname didn’t have any meaning behind it, it just stuck. However, the name “Tarzan,” she had earned after her first few gymnastics lessons.

She looked over to the clock that hung above the main entrance to the study room. Squinting to see the time she said,“I need to head out. ‘Asr will be soon and I missed it yesterday.”
Standing up from her seat she began to collect her books one by one in a neatly organized stack.
“Maybe we could all meet up again some other time? Perhaps next time we won’t have to “study”.” She giggled.

He has no idea of what an 'Asr is, so Virge can only nod and watch as Adlai collects her books and parchments. I guess I still have a lot to learn about muggle culture, uh, he thinks to himself, wondering what the is the importance behind that word.

"Maybe we could all meet up again some other time?" suggests Adlai, once she's done collecting her books in a neat pile. She giggles, sounding, honestly, very bubbly and sweet, which makes him smile, embarrassed. "Perhaps next time we won’t have to 'study'."

Virgil agrees. As fun talking and getting to know those two a little better had been, the whole 'studying' part was a little bit boring — and that's coming from him! 'The biggest nerd on the planet', like Trent, uncle Jay, and sometimes, even his dad like to call him whenever they find him devouring novels after novels.

"I need to go, too," He says, politely as he gets up slowly, closing his Potions books. Virgil has nothing that important to do, but he's excited to report to Trent he finally got the change to interact with different people — his cousin will be happy to read about his new, well, his friends-in-the-making. Once he's done putting his belongings back in his backpack, Virgil bows shortly, one of his father's many mannerisms instilled in him. "I'll see you around."
