By the time Aurette had emerged from the castle, the grounds had already been showered by the golden light from the sun. She then felt a slight commotion coming from the greenhouses. So she marched up to Greenhouse one to see what it was all about.
Her eyes found the source of it. Amongst the little clumps of students, a witch with dirt-smudged hands and a friendly attitude—Professor Sarai Toussaint, the Hogwarts Professor of Herbology —gesture towards trays upon trays of little seedlings, Deputy Headmistress Jensen. Aurette paid close attention as the declaration went over the assembly: a joint project to re-wild portions of the grounds following the Hogsmeade fire and a regrettable event. She found great resonance in the concept of assisting the ecosystem and nurturing anything back to health.
Aurette finally finally to go among the little groups of students busy grabbing their planting tasks. Professor Toussaint gave a seventh-year student words of support a tiny, well labeled container of what seemed like little delicate bluebells. When it was Aurette's turn, she moved forward with a friendly smile.
"Professor Toussaint?" Aurette started, her voice gentle but distinct.
Professor Toussaint turned to Aurette, her blue eyes twinkling, hands briefly free of dirt. "Why, hello there, darling. What's your name?"
"Aurette Clarke, ma'am. First year;"Aurette said, a little flush on her cheeks.
Professor Toussaint remarked, her grin growing, "Aurette, what a beautiful name! And a Hufflepuff, I see. Every hand counts, particularly in terms of gently persuading nature back to life. Naturally, you can assist!" She then pointed to a nearby tray with young plants. "We have several native wildflower varieties here. Some enjoy shade; others enjoy sun. Some will draw particular pollinators."
She gathered two little, strong pots. One held a cluster of vibrant green seedlings with small, developing star-shaped leaves. "This is Stargrass. It flourishes in sunny, open environments, and Moon Moths love its blossoms." She passed it to Aurette. "And this," she said, presenting a second pot containing somewhat larger, darker leaves, "Is a batch of Shadowfern. It will thrive in the shadier areas close to the greenhouses, maybe along that wall where the light is dappled."
Aurette gently lifted the pots, sensing the chilly, moist ground via the plastic. "Thank you, Professor," she said, her eyes contemplative as she tried to remember the professor's instructions. The thought of helping ensure that Hogwarts ecosystem would be saved had given her a warm feeling inside. She would definitely make sure they were in decent locations.
