2 April 2025 - sometime shortly after midnight
Long before this night arrived, AngelFyre had made plans. Her boy would likely not be surprised by that any longer, but she was pretty certain he would be very surprised by everything else. His reply to her invitation over their tin can phone line had been short but sweet, and true to his word, he had met her in the Common Room within a matter of minutes.
In a rare occurrence, AngelFyre actually beat him to the Common Room, but in all fairness, she had already been packed and ready to go the minute he "Over and Out"ed her on their phone line. She gleefully ran and jumped into his arms, wrapping her legs around his waist and ultimately hooked her ankles together behind him the moment he stepped off the last step leading to the Boys' Dormitories. She peppered his face with who knew how many kisses before finally cradling his cheeks in her hands. She murmured, "Happy Anniversary, love," before planting a lingering kiss on her favorite pair of lips.
When the moment came to slide back down to terra firma, she did so slowly, just to tease him. It definitely did not go unnoticed by her that his fingers pressed her into him more firmly during the slide. When her feet made full contact with the floor, she stepped back, taking a moment to appreciate the best view in all of Hogwarts. Feeling absolutely giddy, she reached her hand out for his and grasped it tightly while quickly reaching down to grab her satchel with her other.
"Come on. We are going to go someplace in this castle we have never been to together, and there is no better night than this one to correct that travesty." He looked at her a little quizzically, and then almost immediately gave into it with that money-maker-of-a-smile of his.
"Lead the way, my love. Where you go, I will go; as long as I go with you." She had already started to move towards the door the moment he told her to lead the way. She was in motion and then he had begun to follow milliseconds later. Her hand was still grasped in his, so they were then about as far apart as they could be while still touching, but she suddenly stopped upon hearing his catchphrase. Her sudden stop caused him to plow into her. Neither was hurt, but Simon apologized immediately, checking to see that she was okay.
She definitely was.
"I am fine, love. That was totally my fault," she said, her smile beaming as she reached up with her free hand and brushed the back of it against his cheek. "It has just been a while since I have heard you say that. It made me happy to hear it, is all, and especially happy to hear it tonight." She squeezed his hand three times and then in a flash, they were both headed out of the Common Room and in the Corridors.
They ended up having to play a fun little game of hide-n-seek with a first, or maybe second year, who, like themselves, was out past curfew, but who, unlike themselves, was not even aware that they were playing the game. As former Prefects, Simon and AngelFyre had trained their ears to pick up the sounds of distant voices or footfalls coming their way, and it was paying off this evening for sure. AngelFyre had brought along her Invisibility cloak for just such an occasion. She had neglected to tell Simon to bring his, so they had to share hers. Neither seemed to mind being huddled together in cramped circumstances, holding their breath, and trying their best not to giggle and give themselves away.
As the young lion snuck by, coming probably within 7 feet of them, AngelFyre knew they would be found out if the boy had only looked down. She knew parts of their legs, from mid-calves down, had to be exposed since the cloak was lifted well over their heads, and she chuckled at what a sight that must be. They stayed under the cloak for half a minute or so after the boy's retreat from their immediate vicinity, just to make certain the young Gryffindor would not quietly circle back their way.
Through their binding mark, AngelFyre asked Simon, "Tell the truth. Were you even the least bit tempted to say 'Boo!' as he walked by? I sure was!" and she chuckled. Finally deeming it safe to reveal themselves, they both stood up straight and uncloaked themselves.
"If he had only looked down, he no doubt would have seen two pairs of shoes being worn by two disembodied pair of legs. That most likely would have been scarier than the 'Boo!' One of those pairs, it is rumored, is bow-legged, but their owner nonetheless maintains they are sexy," she said quite cheekily.
Simon chortled and she could feel, more than see, the protest building up behind his smile regarding the maligning of his perfect legs, but when she mentioned the word sexy, he relaxed a bit. She had to admit, he was not wrong in his assessment.
They continued on their way to the base of the Astronomy tower steps. She knew he had to know by now where they were going. There were quite a few steps to climb in the spiral stairwell, but climbing is not what they would waste time by doing. "Here we are!" she enthused excitedly, and squeezed his hand before letting it go so that she could rifle through her satchel and pull her miniaturized broom from its recesses. One quick “Engorgio” later and they were ready for the real fun to begin.
“Those bow-legged pillars of yours are going to be spared the effort of the forever long climb this evening, my love,” and she snickered before blowing a kiss to him. “They will instead chauffeur you and your girlfriend all the way to the top and to the classroom door. Well, they will unless you would rather be the one who is chauffeured? I may still be too young to drive in the Muggle world, but I learned to drive a stick here at Hogwarts,” and she laughed out loud at her silly pun. "I promise your safety will be in the best of hands.”

Night flying with @AngelFyre McCubbin
Once the broom was now at full size, Simon took it from his girlfriend. He would have trusted her driving skills - as he knew she'd want no harm to come onto him, but he had been maneuvering a broom a little faster and more skillfully just a little more longer than she had. "Let's see if all two Silver Arrows are the same," he said to her as he slipped it over to his side. It was about the same weight, same length - but he knew it would feel very much different.
Brooms were similar to wands it seemed. You could have your own, know precisely the way you wished to hold it - and then try such on someone else's wand and have it feel and be all wrong. Yes, wands differed in many ways and Silver Arrows were built similarly, but the wizarding world itself didn't produce duplicated factory like results. Each was unique and each was for one specific wizard or witch or halfbreed. Still, Simon felt, somehow, that AngelFyre's room didn't seem to mind being placed under his hand's control.
"So we're headed....up there," he paused as he lifted his head to look up - WAY up. The school's Astronomy Tower was the highest tower in Hogwarts and that was saying something; as the castle had LOTS of high towers. He was grateful for her thinking of this - especially when it was such a late hour and he wasn't exactly sure if she had cleared this with the Astronomy Professor or not and making a quick exit may be in order. He wondered but also wasn't sure he dared to ask such. Perhaps now that his girl wasn't prefect anymore she was becoming a little rebel.
Simon flipped his wrist; the broom he held now being moved to a horizontal position. "Right then, to the top of the tower, to the top of the wall, now dash away, dash away, dash away all," he beamed - knowing his quote didn't quite work in such circumstance. It was still a far cry from Christmas but no matter.
Off the two lifted and began the ride on the spiraling staircase. Simon was thankful that he was the one who was navigating their way in the low light with his dhampir eyesight.
Fifth Years and Fourth Years, naturally and as with all the other courses at Hogwarts, didn't hold class together so therefore it would be new to be atop the Astronomy Tower with her. Simon himself had always enjoyed the class as one just didn't see the stars in London like they did there within the Scottish Highlands. It was magnificent and once he got to the top, he'd have two beautiful sights to set his gaze upon.
Be kind to one another. (*iNPC is Miles Thatcher)

A Bonnie Accomplice in Life, Love, Crime and Forever @Simon Kincaid
2 April 2025 - morning of their third Anniversary
A self-satisfied smile crept across her face. She knew even as she dangled the idea of him being chauffeured to the top, Simon would ultimately be the one to pilot them. She had counted on it, honestly, because as careful and competent a flier as she was, he had two solid advantages over her that would actually mean something in this situation, and neither of them had anything to do with his being a male. They did, however, have everything to do with his being a dhampir. It was a long way to the top and the lighting was patchy at best. Simon’s larger pupils in darker situations would serve both of them better, as would his increased speed and reflexes if they just happened to come upon an unexpected obstacle along the way. Safety first! Besides, she was not going to protest the chance to sit behind him and hug him all the way to the top. That was just an added bonus… for both of them most likely. She knew that kind of thing always factored into his thinking as much as it did hers, which was part of the reason they were about to celebrate three years together.
She happily swept her leg over her broom after he had settled himself into the driver’s seat. She knew it must feel a little weird to him because it felt weird to her riding farther back, but the ride up was so much fun. She chuckled at his hybridized mini-recitation of the reindeer chant, in early spring, to get them up and away. Her Top Gun handled it all magnificently, as she knew he would, and he did get them to the top much more quickly than she would have. As she dismounted, she complimented him. “I guess in this case it did pay to have the hare, and not the tortoise, at the helm because I want every second I can get with you that did not have us climbing 8 million steps,” and she kissed his cheek.
He held onto the broom while she snapped her wrist and Godshall slid into her palm. She put her ear to the classroom door and listened for a moment to make certain that she heard no stirrings within. When she turned back to her fellow, she dropped her voice to a whisper. She wanted to give him a chance to back out before they got into any possible trouble. “Okay, Clyde. This reminds me of our first venture into the realm of juvenile delinquency the evening you enlisted me as your Bonnie accomplice,” and she stopped to chuckle at her little pun and its myriad layers. She had told him a million times, but it was true… sometimes she really was her own best audience.
“Technically, I guess it was only my first venture into the life of crime since you had been doing it for years. You do recall, do you not, that night we broke into that theater in London and you started sweet, innocent me down the road to Perdition? I guess the good that came from it was that you ended up being the opening act for that Justin Bieber guy, of all people,” and she snickered a bit. “I still have Bubble Gum Man’s business card if the stage ever calls out to you, love. You did a great job… you really did… but if we had to be there for a pop star, you know my heart would have been hoping for Ed Sheeran instead,” and her eyes began to glaze over dreamily in that familiar way her handsome Hufflepuff was used to seeing at the mention of Ed’s name.
“Annnnnnnnyway, this is your one shot at fleeing this situation and going back down to the safety of the Hufflepuff dormitory you call home. Sure, you will not, most likely, get into any trouble for being out past curfew or breaking into Astronomy class, but you will miss entirely the spectacular surprise I have awaiting you on this very auspicious, early morning,” and she twirled Godshall between her fingers as she gave him an itty bitty amount of time to decide.
“On the count of three… and with no Mississippis included…” which is what made it an ‘itty bitty’ amount of time in AngelFyre’s estimation, “you let me know if we are a Go for this or if we are to Go away from this. One… two… th- ….” and before the word “three” could even pass her lips, she found Simon’s lips pressing firmly against hers as his body pressed her back into the Astronomy classroom's door.
Some non itty bitty amount of time later, they peeled themselves off of each other and AngelFyre happily cast “Alohomora” on the lock and the two swiftly entered, closing the door behind them.
“We will be going up to the outer deck shortly, but before we do, I want you to show me where you normally sit in class? I have my own idea, because I always try to picture you wherever you are, but I am curious how close my imaginings are,” and she looked at him softly, loving the look of his large pupils in the darkened room, made a little lighter by all of the glass walls. They constricted some when she asked her question, and she was uncertain if that was due to the increased amount of light in the area or due to her question. “I guess that sounds silly, but it falls squarely into my life-long mission of gaining knowledge for that coveted PhD in all things Simon Ezra Kincaid.” She said it in a joking tone, but she meant every word of it. There was absolutely nothing she could learn about Simon that she ever felt was inconsequential in any way.
“Fair is fair, and you know I believe in reciprocity, so I can tell you that I sit right….”
“You sit right here, Miss McCubbin,” and Simon turned to walk over to her place, stopping right next to the window and close to where Professor Starwise generally stood when lecturing. Now it was his turn to smile a smile of self-satisfaction as she looked momentarily puzzled. “But how could you know that? Have you spied on us 4th years during class? Hmm? Have I said something through our binding mark that clued you into my position?” and she laughed. Halfway in the middle of asking him, it occurred to her what the real answer was, and he confirmed her thought without speaking at all. He simply lifted his hand and tapped the side of his nose with his right index finger.
“I know when you’ve been anywhere in this castle, AngelFyre. It is one of the things I actually love about being a dhampir. You are everywhere around me, even when you aren’t.”
She stood there and simply blinked at him a couple of moments, feeling the heated tears welling in her eyes. “You know you have got to be the best boyfriend in the history of forever, right? And what is more, you make it look so darn easy. I think I need to bump your rating on the boyfriend scale. I have had you hovering at 18, on a 10 scale, for much too long. Clearly you rate an easy 20… maybe even a 22,” and she laugh-smiled as she reached up with her index finger to swipe the single tear that had spilled over her eye’s waterline.
Clearing her throat, she nodded over to the student cubbies by the door they had just walked through minutes before. “Turns out, I have some skills of my own. Go check your cubby. There should be a map in there for you.”
She watched as he walked over and reached his hand in, coming out with a slender piece of parchment. Now it was Simon’s turn to look a little surprised. He looked at one side and then flipped it over, looking at the other. That side was blank, so he turned it back to the front, and a wide smile began to take up its normal place of residence upon his face.
“When you said map, I had something entirely different in mind,” and he chuckled, "but I have a good feeling about this,” and he raised the slip of parchment up and waved it a couple of times. “At which telescope shall we meet?” he inquired before starting to move back in the direction of the windows and the bank of telescopes.
“This one. Closest to me. Here on the end,” and she stepped off to the side so that he could enter the coordinates. She had made sure earlier in the day that had just been that this particular window was cleaned spotless. With one eye closed and his other eye to the eye piece, he was getting everything dialed in when he asked her what he would see when he got to his destination.
“Ah. That is the question of the hour is it not? Let me first start by telling you what you will not see. You will not see the man in the moon. You also will not see some wizard flying the night sky on his broom with an illuminated banner behind him that says ‘AngelFyre loves Simon!’, although now that I have just said that out loud, I am sooooo wishing I had thought of that earlier,” and she giggled.
“You will also not see your black leather motorcycle jacket that Aunt Maggie has been keeping in storage for me…well, for you, really, since Christmas. The third anniversary is leather, so when you go home for spring break, it will be waiting for you. I wish I could be there when you first ride your motorcycle, and I have made my peace that I cannot be, but I swear to Merlin Simon Ezra Kincaid, if I find out that you gave a ride to Mia Anderson before I get that honor, I will tar and feather you… in my very active imagination only, but still….” and she huffed at him. And then she laughed when she finally dialed into the fact that he had long stopped looking through the eye piece and was looking at her as she was jabbering on with her ersatz threats.
His eyes were twinkling. Her eyes had now adjusted to the lighting conditions, and she could clearly see his patient amusement written all over his face.
“You will see a star, love. Two actually – it is a binary star, orbiting so closely that they appear to be as one. It will be in the constellation Ursa Major, and look at the opposite end of the famous dipper. Think of the bear’s nose, if you will. You are looking for the really bright star at the tip.” She gave him some time to find it.
“The next time you quote Peter Pan and talk about the second star to the right and straight on 'til morning, continuing into forever, I hope you will think of the star you are looking at right now, since it is ours in a way. You know its address, but I think you should know its name. I would like to introduce you to “SimFyre”[1]. I had it officially registered with a star naming registry over Christmas, but they allowed me to forward date it to today.”
She reached down and grabbed the official certificate out of her satchel to present to him. I have a certificate for you and one for me. The star coordinates you now know, but if you ever want to get on their app when you are at home, you will need that 16 digit registration number. When you view it on the app, it shows the name “SimFyre”.
“No matter where you are in the northern hemisphere, Simon, if weather conditions permit, you should always be able to see it. It will never dip below the horizon. Best of all, you actually do not need a telescope to see it, if you know your constellations and where to look for it. It is bright enough, because of its binary nature, that it can be seen with the naked eye.”
She stopped talking for a beat and then concluded after some thought with, “Those two stars, like you and I, were destined to orbit each other, and they shine brighter because of their close proximity. I like to think the same is true of us. We are immortal now, my love. A love for the ages... and 70 years from now we will be able to say, 'A love for the aged'," and she made herself laugh again.
"Happy Anniversary, mo chridhe.” (my heart)

More anniversary gift giving with @AngelFyre McCubbin
Simon looked down in complete awe from the present and smiled to her. Ever since the very first night at Hogwarts he had been charmed by the stars that glittered the Scottish Highlands and now they had one, one that was relatively easy to find, dedicated to them. He loved that it was a binary system, with two orbiting entities that relied so heavily on one another. Absolutely perfect.
"Now my gift to you," he said as he presented a wrapped gift out toward her direction. It was wrapped in brown craft paper but had a gold ribbon holding it all together. Simon waited patiently for her to unwrap it. "I also looked up the theme for third anniversaries and we've taken quite the turn. The first is paper and cotton - materials that are delicate and represent fragile beginnings but leather, the theme of the third anniversary, is durable and resilient. I'm pretty sure that means we can perservere through anything."
She'd unwrap her gift and find a photo album.

"It's durable, resilient - and vegan," he said to her, knowing she'd appreciate that perhaps most of all. "I filled it with what means the most to me and I think I can safetly say means the most to you - us."

In the first page she'd see an assortment of moving photographs of Simon himself and an image of him writing out that he loved her in pencil, but as she flipped through the pages she would see more and more of the two of them as well during their years together. At the very back, resting after the last page, was a handwritten note: "Wherever we go, whatever comes next - let's keep finding new adventures together. Love, Simon."
Simon smiled as he took her hand, bringing it to his lips to kiss slowly and then ushered her out toward the edge of the tower, the cool night breeze surrounding them, stirring her hair just enough for him to take more notice than he usually did. Simon smiled and reached out, taking his hand and tastling it through some of it the way she had done the very first time he had met her. He had never forgotten.
"The stars tonight, our own included, have conspired in our favor, AngelFyre. Never have they looked so radiant - or so numerous." He watched as she smiled and wasn't certain if it was for the stars or for him but with the way her eyes were locked on him he had a pretty good guess. "And yet I find," his eyes too only looked to her and not upward to that star-filled sky,"that even their multitude and brilliance pale when held beside the affection I bear you."
"The stars, they don't listen, nor speak, Miss McCubbin, nor do they walk beside me in the corridors of this castle or smile along side me." Simon leaned in and brought his lips to hers.
Be kind to one another. (*iNPC is Miles Thatcher)
