Michelle grinned widely as she walked outside of the castle. She explored the ground with just her bright blue eyes, trying to decide what she wanted to do. A slight breeze caused part of her wavy red hair to fly into her face, obscuring her vision temporarily. Sighing, Michelle pulled off the black ponytail holder that was around her wrist and gathered her thick wavy hair into a messy ponytail, though a few wisps still escaped.

After getting her hair somewhat tamed, Michelle started to move around the grounds. She spotted some students, who were also enjoying the morning. She wanted to go over and start a conversation with someone, but her shyness prevented her from achieving this goal. Shaking her head at herself, she continued to walk around. She spotted a big oak tree, slightly out of the way, a perfect spot to sit down.

Reaching her destination, Michelle plopped down on the grass, pulling off her light blue knapsack. She opened the bag, and stuck her hand in, pulling out a shiny red, she saved from breakfast in the Great Hall. Leaning back on the trunk of the tree, Michelle closed her eyes as she took a bite of the juicy apple. Taking her time eating the apple, the young girl listened to her surroundings. She heard the leaves above her rustling in the light breeze, the birds calling to each other, and the soft conversations and laughter of her fellow students.

Dawn came to a sudden notion: be inside a castle all the time was overrated. She lay strewn across her bed, staring up at the ceiling like it held all the answers. It clearly didn't, because all her questions continued to bounce around her head like they didn't have a care. Actually, the ceiling seemed to only add more questions, and it was starting to give her a headache.

She rolled over to her side and gazed out the window. It gave an outstanding view of the castle grounds, especially since it was morning. She could just make out the students from this high, who appeared as ants scurrying around. She studied them for a moment before sliding out of her bed.

Usually she hid in the castle, somewhere where people wouldn't bother her. The library, the study room, and her actual room were all her places, even the abandoned toilets, though too many other people claimed that as their residence. Dawn just needed a place to step back and try to understand everything, this world she had only recently had learned was full of magic. Being born from muggles, she thought she was some diabolical fiend who was only just awakening her powers, but learned quickly that there was oh so many people just like her. That had made her ego plummet from where it had once stood tall.

Dawn yawned and puts on her sneakers, along with a crisp red hoodie. Although she didn't particularly like her house, her favorite color was red so it wasn't as irksome. She tied her hair into tight, low ponytail and gazed at herself in a nearby mirror. She took another shaky breath before heading out the dorm.

She practically raced down the stairs, racing to the beat of her heart which was going faster than normal. Her mind was deciding whether she was either excited to being going outside or more anxious to find out if this was a bad idea. She hoped it was the former, for her own sanity.

Dawn pushed through the doors and was immediately hit was rays of daybreak. She held up her hand, wincing, but a smile broke onto her face. It was just so beautiful, something she had almost forgotten. She was usually too busy to pay attention to things like nature these days, which sounded especially bad, but she was enjoying it fully now.

After her eyes adjusted to the sunlight, she looked around. She could see the Great Lake, the Forbidden Forest, and Owlery. She never had any letters, to give or to receive so she had never been in there. But she was outside to be outaide, and that's what she was going to do.

Dawn's feet crunched on the grass as she walked, heading in no particular way. Actually, she soon realized, she was heading specifically towards the sound of children. That was new, because she usually shyed away. She knew very well that she wasn't going to go talk to them—

She was nearly knocked off her feet as a group of rowdy boys rushed passed her. Dawn hurried off to the side watched with shock and then angry as they howled and laughed as the hurried away. How could they not have seen me—there's all the space in the world!

She quickly decided that talk to others was a big no-no. Dawn stuffed her hands into her pockets and wandered away, particularly towards the trees. She didn't dare go in the Forbidden Forest, at least not yet, but just sitting under a tree in full view shouldn't hurt.

Her hazel eyes singled out a girl sitting nearby and eyed her warily. She was eating a juicy looking apple. Dawn figured it would be kind of rude to not sit down it her, so a quick thought later and she approached her. “Mind if I sit with you...?”

'I still can't believe I am here at Hogwarts.' Michelle thought to herself as she continued to munch on her apple. She can still remember to this day when she found out she had magic.

**Flashback**

Michelle was seven years old living with her father, Eric. Sadly her mother, Rosie, passed away shortly after Michelle was born. The father and daughter duo were just finishing up dinner one August evening when Michelle tripped over the family cat, Beans, as she was taking her dirty dinner dishes to the sink. The plate slipped out of her hands, but just before it would have hit the floor and shatter, it froze. At first, Michelle thought her father stopped, but after he shook his head, she realized that she was the one that performed the feat.

Fast forward 4 years later

It was on the 18th of May, Michelle's 11th birthday.  Said birthday girl was enjoying a simple birthday breakfast with her father when they heard a TAP TAP at the kitchen window. They turned to the window and spotted a Barn owl with a letter tied to its talon.

Having guessed what the letter was and to whom it was for, Eric turned to his young daughter and smiled.  "Why don't you  go and get the letter, Michelle?"  Eric asked.  Michelle looked to her father, as she realized what the letter could possibly be. She squeaked and jumped up from the table and dashed to the window and open up. Eric chuckled softly watching has his daughter struggle to untie the letter from the patient owl.  After freeing the letter, Michelle glanced at the bright green writing that was addressed to her. and turning over the letter she saw the Hogwarts Crest.
" It is my Hogwarts letter!" she cried spinning around to look at her father, who was grinning at his daughter.  The red hair girl opened up the letter with shaky hands and started to read...

** End Flashback**

Michelle was started out of her nostalgic daydream when she heard someone asked if they can sit down with her. She looked up and saw a girl who looked to be her own age with long hair pulled back in a nicer ponytail than her own.  She smiled softly at the other girl. Maybe it is time Michelle started to meet her fellow students. "Sure.  It is nice to meet you. My name is Michelle."  She said in a voice that was barely above a whisper.

The girl offered her a smile and Dawn was a little late to return it back, lifting up the corners of her lips as if that were good enough. She wasn't good with smiles and wasn't ready to start practicing them either.

She introduced herself as Michelle. The girl had hard-to-miss thick, red hair that she put in a ponytail similar to Dawn's, except her's was sleek and tight, just how she liked it. She hated when things got in her way, especially things that didn't matter to her that much.

Besides her flaming hair, she noticed Michelle's bright blue eyes, like a cloudless sky at noon. Dawn's own eyes were hazel, usually green tinged blue but sometimes they almost looked golden, which they appeared as now. They were the only thing that she liked about herself, her eyes. They mirrored the luminescent hurricane inside her.

She licked her already moist lips and tasted the remains of grape jam. “I'm Dawn.” It took her a moment to realize that it kind of played well with where they were now, at the beginning of the day. Usually she never considered her name, since it was something she was born with and would live with for the rest of her life. But something about how she said it made her feel strange, like she was proclaiming a title.

She glanced at the girl, just as a small breeze blew pass them. It didn't make her feel cold but still she raised her red hood over her head, like she was slinking back into hiding.

Dawn sat down and hugged her knees to her chest, letting out a shallow breath. She had no clue what to say, but that wasn't new. It's just that she wanted to say something, and the topics that popped in her head didn't seem good enough.

She was silent for a moment that seemed like eons before saying, “It's nice out here...” It was true. But she couldn't figure out what else to say, so she just sat there with pursed lips.
