Alright! Off to a pretty decent start. Her spell was a success, even if it didn't land. Emily was too impressed by Avis's efforts at dodging the onslaught of Huffie attacks to get into a strop about how she missed.

She sent the birdie an acknowledging nod, already well aware she was a force to be reckoned with in her own right. But Emily was only getting started. Avis was far from out of the waters yet as were the rest of the Ravenclaw team.

She just about managed to jump back when an Incendio caught her sleeve. Where did that even come from? Ah well. The flames were nowhere near as bad as what they could've been.

Afternoon Slot

Despite their first spell exchange's lacking results, both duelling teams adapted remarkably well to first impressions. After brilliantly dodging all three of Hufflepuff's all-out attacks, Avis would not find nearly as much success on the offensive. Her Flipendo was admirably cast, yet it was relatively easy for Emily to anticipate its trajectory before it shot past her and disappeared harmlessly into the crowd. Considering no grand commotion made itself known immediately after the wayward spell's loss, it was safe to say that nothing too important was hit. Brushing past the attempt on her life, Emily turned towards Maisie, who remained the only Ravenclaw not to target her this round, as a potential victim of the worst punishment any grade-schooler could imagine: a tickle attack. Her Rictusempra struck the other solidly, though even the weakness of relentless tickling could not throw off a show of surprising accuracy. If Costanza had looked forward to shaking off Steleus' stubborn grasp, Maisie's repeated cast had other plans. Surrounded by a hazy ring of green magic, the Seer's poor body would not be offered respite from the continuous sneezing. Even so, the title of 'quickest shot on the piste' could still be won between rapid blinking and inconvenient full-body jerks.

If there was any opportunity to make up for previous disappointments, the time was now. Costanza's green-spark charm struck Yolanda with such speed and brilliance that dodging seemed impossible. The Ravenclaw would find herself effectively blinded for the time being. Unfortunately for Hufflepuff, however, such greatness came at a cost. Subject to Yolanda's decently cast dancing-feet spell, a nearby Emily would find her body compelled to move, forcibly contorting herself in some ritualistic revival of magical tarantism. Between the sweeping hand motions and stationary side-stepping, Astrea could just make out the crude spelling of Y-M-C-A if she squinted. Perhaps "You May Cast Away", or "You Must Cede Assistance"? If Astrea's guesses were plausible, as they often failed to be regarding modern sensibilities, both ideas seemed straightforward enough to be logical and yet entirely unintimidating nonetheless. Whatever acronymic threat Emily had been forced into, she only hoped that it wasn't too outrageous. A moderator could only take so many struck casts before they were obligated to intervene.

Unwilling to waste a display of academic prowess on something as pedestrian as clever evasion, Minnie doubled down on Incendio Duo. The otherwise evened field, with all first-year spellwork despite Hufflepuff's seniority, apparently did not suit the Badgers' strategy well. An occupied Emily seemed as good a target as anything. Yet perhaps the previous round's terrible luck indicated something, for the scourge of all duellists loomed over the piste's ambitions. Astrea, bound to nothing but observation, could only stare in sympathy as she saw the signs of backfire just as it manifested. The end of Minnie's wand seemed to spark and sputter for a moment, magic starting to collect before it violently ignited without warning. Luckily for the Hospital Wing's sake, however, the life of a duellist was a difficult and enduring one. As no individual flame counted itself lucky enough to catch, such a setback could only be considered unfortunate and momentary. This early in the match, morale was high, and so was the likelihood of change.

Second time's a charm! Emily's Rictumsempra soared out of her wand in a successful cast and knocked Maisie as she hoped. Still... Emily would squint at the pain the younger birdie would have to endure from that. She mouthed as quick "sorry" to her once Emily saw her land backwards. At the same time, Emily managed to duck away from a Flipendo sent by Avis before the Huffie herself would collapse onto the piste too.

Yet once you dodge one spell, you're inevitably met with another. Emily walked right into a Tantallegra sent by Yolanda. Emily yelped when her legs wouldn't stay still... And Lord knows what her hands were doing.

"Hey-- Just-- Come on-- Stop--!"

There was almost a beat developed by the Steleus hex she'd cast twice successfully now. And like a metronome, it was strangely calming, marking the (limited) time they remained up here. Each sneeze from the Hufflepuff was a moment of grace that they all weren't piled up in the Hospital Wing yet, which was the expected outcome when you were lined up like skinned chickens in front of not one, but three, older and more experienced duellists.

And so, the inevitable happened as Emily's spell—something older, no doubt—connected with her petite form. But even as she giggled at the tickling sensation, she let out a sigh of relief. She knew there were much worse spells she could have gotten hit with, and somewhere in the distance, it almost seemed like Emily was apologizing. Maisie tried to nod in acknowledgement—she certainly seemed like a decent person—but it was likely indistinguishable from the movements brought on by the tickling.
