Very blight light flooded into the stone floor of the corridor at Hogwarts as the sun faded through the high arched windows. This was true for an ancient school. A more still silence replaced the usual hustle and bustle of students en route to their classes during the day. The walls were covered in tapestries that showed mythical creatures and ancient battles, their threads softened by centuries of dust and magic. There was a slight scent of old stone and the residual sweetness of enchanted cleaning products.

While walking down the corridor, Aurette's boots ruffled over the floor. Her black hair was loose today, moving with ease as she moved, and a few of it flickered through the sun like spun obsidian. Her attention was not directed in one direction, but rather she was utilizing the unusually large space of time between her classes.

Her leather bound sketchbook was worn and frayed on the edge, and she would sometimes stop to admire interesting gargoyles or observe a stained-glass window. The thing she was looking at today was a small, unusually twisted vine that had emerged from mud somewhere in the wall next to an armored structure. It had a typical appearance, but Aurette was astonished by its mysterious properties, as she had been dreaming of such an idea for ages. She was heading towards a less congested area, with the intention of sitting and drawing an outline before it could be filled and crowded by students.

Inside the castle, a corridor provided insight into the day's activities: an older student group was gathered by ten windows, discussing Quidditch matches with their peers, while he and another student attempted to lift limbs on what had fallen branches, their wands flickering in unsteady. Aurette took delight in the quiet sound of it all, a backdrop to her own thoughts.

Bored, Ruby stalked out of the Ravenclaw common room and passed by the classrooms. Alright. What am I gonna do? The Quidditch games are not until, like, next Friday. The library's probably empty, but I don't wanna read right now. She then went to the girls' lavatory, and did her business. After flushing and washing her hands, she took off her claw clip and fixed her hair again, then pinning it to her hair. I can't just stay here forever. She passed by a few students, and she decided to just roam around in the corridors. And there she saw her. Aurette Clarke! The Hufflepuff bird! Thoughts went racing through her head. Should I talk to her? Or not. Maybe no. But hey, the part of Ruby's inner voice that was optimistic and not an overthinker said she seems to be a nice girl. We can talk to her. After all, the worst thing she could do is ignore us. Ruby took off her glasses and cleaned it using her skirt. Mmm... What should I do? Let's do it, she muttered very softly to herself. Then, suddenly her bag fell off her shoulder, spilling out its plentiful contents. It was quite loud, and any moment, Aurette might notice. NO, NO, NO, NO!!!!! She blushed, her cheeks turning ketchup red. AAAAAAAH! I'm sorry! Sorry!, she blurted out, blushing. I NEVER WANTED THIS TO HAPPEN, NO, NO!

The hallway exploded with a sudden, jarring noise. Aurette, leapt a little, her concentration shattered. Her eyes, gained consciousness as she turned to face the source of the noise.

Ruby, a first-year Ravenclaw, she had met a few times, had a brilliantly crimson face frantically trying to collect a cascade of dropped items from her bag. Scattered over the stone floor were books, quills, a roll of parchment, and something like a half-eaten pumpkin pasty. Ruby's first, somewhat frantic apologies—marked by a loud "NO, NO!"—were almost as shocking as the crash itself.

Aurette's instinct toward helping right away started overriding. She hurriedly knelt down without thinking twice about her own peace. As she started to quietly help, her hands moved to pick up a stray quill and a textbook, her motions were graceful and effective. Her voice was soft and soothing; she gave a modest, comforting grin.

Aurette whispered, her voice devoid of any judgment or irritation, just sincerity, "Oh, no worries at all! Let me help you with that." She lifted a heavy book on what seemed to be advanced Transfiguration and, gently returned it to Ruby's bag, glanced briefly at the book's amazing title before turning on another item. "It happens to everyone, really. Sometimes, these corridors can be rather challenging."
