Hi! nice to meet you, I remember you sent an owl for Quill Pals, right?

I'm surprised how similar your character is to mine! looking forward to developing their friendship/rivalry (and/or maybe more!) depending on how this turns out!

Gemini could hear her coming from a mile away. Like, seriously? Of course, he might just be more sensitive, since he was always careful to keep his footsteps quiet. Not because he had something to hide, but more out of habit.

He turned just as the girl approached. She introduced herself, seeming just a little awkward. I don't mind, though. I guess I'm the same way, sometimes.

"Hello. When did you pick up my name?" he asked, lightly teasing. He thought about it for a moment, before answering his own question. "The only thing I can think of is the Sorting. Guess you've got as much a knack for remembering things as I do," he remarked, laughing a little. Not a completely real laugh, but close enough.

"Ravenclaw, huh? Guess I can see how you got there. Anyways, what are you out here for? I seldom see anyone else this far down the Lake."

Does she have motives? he wondered. Of course she does, what are you thinking, everyone has them. he chided himself. Specifically, for approaching me? Probably. What those motives might be is another question entirely, I've nothing to give. Not worth knowing, really. Guess I'll have to wait and see.

I like how it's going so far! Your writing is good, too, I'm learning quite a few new words

Also, just to clarify: the blue text is dialogue, and the purple text is internal thought?
In case you didn't know/need clarification as well, for mine I use quote marks for dialogue and italics for thoughts.

"You have an owl? That's cool," Gem said, the information quietly going somewhere in the back of his mind. "And yeah, I guess we all need sun sometimes."

He nodded when she referenced the Sorting, somehow happy that he got it right. Not that he would let anyone see that. Yes! I knew I could figure something out. People can't just be what they tell you, right? I mean, sure, she might have answered the question if I'd asked, but it's a step. I can't go straight to things they won't tell me about.

"I came... I don't know. I come out here every now and then. I'm used to being outside, I guess," he shrugged. "I swear, I'm like a plant. Leave me a few days without sunlight and I will actually start to wilt," he quipped, an easy but guarded smirk on his face.

He listened as she asked about the school.

"Care of Magical Creatures," he replied immediately, the moment she had finished with her own answer. This he was sure of. "Quidditch or broom racing are cool, too, but sports isn't really my forte."

"And I know what you mean by wanting to see everything. My dad used to stay here, so I got a lot of stories, but they don't do justice to actually being here."

My turn to say sorry! Wasn’t subscribed to this topic, so I didn’t see your post until today.
Also, whether or not Kiyo decides to trust Gem is up to you!

Gem grinned when she said she wrote down things about the others.

“I sure would like to see that. I kind of do that, I guess. But I tend to forget some of the details.”

He looked up at the sudden arrival of the owl, a flash of browns and blue.

He only had time to think, oh, that’s her owl, Kiyo! before said owl landed unexpectedly on his head. He flinched at the sudden contact, but simply laughed when Ruby apologised.

“It’s alright. She must be pretty daring. Most domestic animals don’t really… like me, I guess,” he conceded. “Anyways,” he continued a little awkwardly.

He bowed his head like Ruby had suggested, holding out an arm to see if Kiyo would perch there instead.

“Off we go,” he said, watching the tawny Barn Owl.

“There we are. Now, where were we? Oh right, your records of all the first years, yeah? Seems like a good idea, especially if you’re making friends like this, or someone gets injured, or goes missing…” he trailed off, thinking for a moment.

“Oh, and by the way, you can just call me Gem. Shorter.” he shrugged.

My parents, plus Jacob, plus Emily, plus maybe Andy. She’ll be the fifth or sixth person to ever call me that.
