Kyle smiled slightly at the promise that she would always come to him with trouble. That was the same deal that he had with Duke...a deal he admittedly broke once before. Though he was eager to make up for this failings and never let down another friend the way he let down Duke. Besides, he had to admit it felt nice to be seen in a light of protection and trust as opposed to the usual fear or hate or dismissal he got from most other people. And whats more, she never played chess before? That was surprising given how smart she was, he was sure she would have played alot. He had even thought about what sort of excuses he would make after she beat him despite how much she played, after all he was nowhere near as smart as she was.

Then, as if to punish him for growing less defensive and alert a new person arrive. He was speaking directly towards San and only San. Asking only her if it was alright if he joined them, as if Kyle was not even there. That was either a simple social mistake or a subtle play to show he was superior to Kyle and did not need to seek his permission or approval to get into his space. This was something that Kyle was not going to take sitting down...er...well he was going to remain sitting but he was not going to let it go unasnwered for!

Kyle lifted his feet and plopped his boots right on the seat Dale was motioning for. His eyes narrowed at Dale and when he spoke there was a slight tone of danger to his voice. "I do mind however Dan. Maybe you should sit somewhere else. Were dealing with something" there were too many flags on the play for this to seem like a friendly and causal appearance for Dale. San mentioning something happened that he might hate her for, Someone from their house harassing and scaring san just minutes before the "Old friend" arrives out of nowhere. the exact same generic friendly mask thrown up as before with the mousy Ravenclaw girl. There was too much about this situation that didn't sit well with him and he wasn't about to Relinquish control of it or compromise the security of his friend without a fight. "Watcha waitin for? Bugger off"

Dale looked over to the person Santario was with, he looked rather intimidating, he was sitting in the seat directly next to Santario he had chessboard in front of him, that brought back some memories, Dale and his father used to play chess a lot when he was younger, they stopped because his father had to go on more and more business trips, but that was fine Dale because he had never even once gotten remotely gotten close to beating his dad, chess was just another thing Dale accepted he was not good at, just like drawing and singing.

“I have not seen you since… Well since the fox incident. I thought you might hate me after that! Please take a seat!”

Dale looked at her with confusion, it had been a while since they had last interacted, but he wasn’t sure what would lead her to think that he hated more… after all, that entire fox incident wasn’t her fault, it was mostly the fault of the D.W.S. they were just following instructions after all, “Don’t worry about Santario, none of it was your fault, you gave me plenty of chances to back out, besides it was good practice for my charms quiz.” Dale said jokingly.

“Kyle this is my friend Dale and Dale this is my best friend Kyle. Dale was my first friend here at Hogwarts.”

He looked over to Kyle, “Hi, I’m Dale, Dale Kurt.” Dale would usually be cautious of meeting anyone new, but if Santario said that Kyle was her best friend, he was sure he would be a good person. Maybe Kyle could give him a few tips on how to play chess, but not before he got some of his studies done, that was the main goal today…

As Dale took off his bag and put it down next to the seat and went to go sit down, Kyle put his shoes over the seat on the seat Dale was going for. He shot Dale a hostile look and said "I do mind however Dan. Maybe you should sit somewhere else. We're dealing with something" '' Well that was… unexpected” Dale thought to himself, he picked up his bag and slung it over his shoulder again. Dale understood why he did this… sorta, Whatever they were talking about must be important, it was Dale’s fault for not asking Kyle too. “O-Oh sorry t-to disturb y-you.” Dale quickly said to them, he could feel his face heat up he felt embarrassed, his stupid stutter did him no good in this situation. "Whatcha waiting for? Bugger off

Kyle sounded much angrier now, “S-sorry” Dale said as he started to head off to a table that looked generally empty, with only a few people there doing the same thing Dale planned on doing.

San smiled genuinely when Dale told her not to worry about it, but when Kyle spoke her smile faltered as she looked back at him frowning. “Rook, what the heck?” She looked at Dale starting to leave. “No, Dale wait, I think this is just a misunderstanding.” She was going to get whiplash if she kept looking between these two boys. Granted she wouldn’t blame Dale for leaving at this point. She had never seen Kyle be so rude before and it would be clear to at least him that this had thrown her, and she was trying to figure out how to react. How was she supposed to react to her best friend having a 180-degree personality change? This is similar to what happened at the lake… What is causing this?

“Rook… Dale wouldn’t hurt anyone. He paled at the thought of dangling a dead rabbit in front of a fox. Though I’d trust Dale with my life… I know because he practically saved my life once. I made a mistake and a fox lunged at me if it wasn’t for Dale Flipendoing it, I would have been mauled.” It was written all over her face as she looked up at Kyle that she was confused by the way that he was reacting. She had no reason to think that Dale had been in cahoots with Whitehall, in fact, the thought never even struck her at all.

She pleaded with him with her eyes to relent. She didn’t want either of them to leave, but if she had to choose, she knew what her choice would be. If she was forced to choose, she would choose Kyle especially with what was happening in her life right now. She trusted him more than anyone else and she knew she could catch up with Dale at a later time. “Just give him a chance… Please, for me?” She whispered.

A month had past and now the start of October brought the coolness in the air and the green leaves outside began to change into another kind of color. If you looked outside a window you would see that different sets of yellows, oranges, and crimsons everywhere. Despite the cool and windy weather, the student still loved to go outside, they now all wearing their House scarf and robe to keep themselves warm against the chilly air around them.

Ever since Griseldis became a Prefect, it was now a part of her daily life to do  patrolling day and night.  She was quite thankful that so far no crazy event happen yet or not like last month how she accidentally tripped over a log and got herself injured. She was lucky enough that there were people there to help her. Speaking about those who were there, Griseldis wanted to give San, Alexander and Nanashi a proper thank you. But everyone became busy, not to mention after Alexander was chosen to be the new Gryffindor Prefect. they hadn't had the free time to have a proper conversation to get the know each other more. Griseldis sighed to that thought on her mind while she was one her way back to her dorm room to get some stuff before going to the Great Hall.

Griseldis kinda missed celebrating the Mid-autumn Festival where she used to celebrate this Chinese harvest festival with her family. But her mother did send their owl and brought her a lot of homemade mooncakes and some tea leaves. She decided to go to the Great Hall to enjoy her time study. How enjoyable could studying be anyway? Well, Griseldis always found the most relaxing way to learn things. It was like a habit of hers when she wanted to study something or reading books, she would drink tea and eat some homemade dessert her mother baked. It helped her be more motivated and you would never get bored from studying.

A book about Astronomy and a box of mooncakes in both hands, she arrived at the Great Hall with a bright smile on her face, showed how energetic she was. Just when she was going to sit at the Gryffindor table, she spotted her captian was interacting with two Slytherins across the table and there was someone who she was also familiar with...wait...that girl with wavy black hair... "Isn't that San?", Griseldis was a bit surprised that their Quidditch Captain Kyle DeRook who used to be intimidating and almost unapproachable seemed to care about her, you could tell by his protective expression. Could they be friends?  Out of curiosity but there was also a part where she saw as an opportunity to give San her sincere gratitude for helping her that day. Looking down at the box full of mooncakes, she nodded to herself with a confident smile. Griseldis believed this would be a nice thank you gift and she hoped that San would like the mooncakes.

Griseldis walked towards them and greeted them with a cheerful tone, "Hi, San! It's so good to see you again.", she turned to Kyle giving him a polite smile, "And it's nice to see you too, Captain.". Then she looked at the Slytherin boy and bowed to signify her respect, "Hi there, I'm Gris, second year like Captain, Prefect of Gryffindor. It's a pleasure to meet you." Griseldis looked back at San and placed the box on the table beside the chessboard. She gently opened the box to show them the colorful mooncakes inside and each mooncake had beautifully printed pictures on it. "I simply wanted to give you this for showing my thanks for helping me that day. These are mooncakes, by the way, my mother made them. I hope you'll like it, and of course..." She looked up at Kyle and the Slytherin boy, "You two can try the mooncakes too."

Kyle kept his glare on Dale as he stammered and stumbled over his words, not so much at blinking at the other boy and he felt a feeling of success as the boy attempted to gather his things and then leave only to be verbally stopped by Santario. She began to explain how he was her friend and how he had saved her from some sort of situation involving a Fox. It was her last statement that really took hold of the boy though.

“Just give him a chance… Please, for me?”

Kyle let out a slight sigh as he looked over at the girl and into her Sapphire eyes, she was pleading with him, and he just couldn't find it in himself to deny her the request. He removed his feet from the seat and Shot Dale one last look. "She is vouching for you. But I got my eye on you, yeah?" he looked back towards San and gave her her a slight nod before crossing his arms and leaning on the table.

Suddenly someone else arrived, a girl this time. He recognized her immediately, this girl was a first string chaser on his team. Even if he didn't know her from there her distinct hair buns really stood out and would probably help anyone recognize her in a crowd. She was placing down a box with something called moon cakes inside. Without really asking or looking to anyone for approval he reached in a grabbed the green one and popped it into his mouth and began to chew. Even when he was in a bad mood or on edge, he always had time for Cakes. Cakes, hey that was good. Thats what he should call bun head.

Kyle cocked an eyebrow and looked towards Santario and spoke through his mouthful of moon cake "Hey Muppet, you know Cakes? Make a habit of hanging 'round Gryffindors often or just the ones that play Quidditch" he looked towards Gris and offered a nod. Having a team mate he trusted around made the Dale situation more bearable in his mind. "Pop a squat Cakes. Join the party"

Dale stopped in his tracks when he heard Santario's voice, she explained to Kyle how he had helped her out in the past before, well it apparently worked because Kyle lifted his boots of the chair Dale was going for. Dale breathed a sigh of relief and took in a breath to calm himself. He turned around and walked back over to the table, he put his bag down and took a seat, Kyle had said he had his eyes on Dale, he couldn’t really understand why Kyle was being so… hostile towards him, maybe Kyle was like this with everyone new, just like Dale was always nervous around new people. “T-Thanks” Dale said after he was sat down.

He looked over to Santario with a look of gratitude, if it wasn’t for her intervention this encounter would keep him up at night. He opened up his bag and pulled out about chemistry, this particular one was an old one Dale had found from his dad’s old library, it had plenty of useful application, but even more… dangerous ones.

Another person had arrived, she greeted Santario with a cheerful tone, and she referred to kyle as Captain, she introduced herself as Gris a Gryffindor Prefect, she had also brought some cakes and offered them to everyone including Dale. Dale felt like a bit of an outsider, these three seemed like they were all friends, and Dale only knew Santario there, “Well I am here to study first, socialize second.” Dale thought to himself.

Dale reached over and picked up the purple cake, he looked at it for a second, the top very pretty art drawn onto it, Dale felt a little bad taking a bite into it, it tasted great, very sweet and there was some kind of… filling inside of it. It tasted like yams, “This is delicious, thanks for sharing!” Dale said to Gris, “Also, my name is Dale, Dale Kurt. Nice to meet you.” Dale continued to eat his cake as he read a section about the many used of solidified alcohol.

San smiled brightly up at Kyle the smile that seemed to light her eyes up and make them sparkle, a smile usually only reserved for him. Looking back at Dale as he sat down and pulled out a chemistry book? Was that, that thing that they talked about a while ago that was like potions but muggle? She was going to ask when Gris walked up to their table and San would great her with a smile as well. It seemed that her night was turning around, and she would no doubt even have Dale to walk her back to the entrance of her dorm to keep her safe by the end of the night. She vowed never to leave her wand on her end table next to her bed.

“Oh! Gris you didn’t need to do that! You were hurt I couldn’t leave you like that!” Not with those two other helpless boys… The thought finished the sentence because if it had been left up to them the tall blonde would have tried to levitate her to the nurse and eventually the spell would have failed and Gris would have hit the ground as she had anyway. Come to think of it… Her eyes flitted from Dale to Gris, and finally resting on Kyle’s face. I first met everyone here by them getting hurt. Then however Kyle started speaking with his mouth full of food and without thinking she put her hand gently over his mouth. “I know your mother did not raise you to run your gob with it full of food in front of ladies.”

She giggled and shook her head at him a slight flush hitting her cheeks about hanging out with Gryffs. “I- No I just hang out with who I hang out with. Lions just tend to be good company.” She stuck her tongue out at him a playful side to Santario not many ever got to see. It came out only when she was truly comfortable with someone. Now, however, looking back at the mooncakes she bit her bottom lip in thought. The green one and the Purple one now gone, and Santario had never had mooncake before. Originally, she would have picked green because it was her favorite color, but Kyle snatched that up very quickly.

She reached forward and delicately picked up the white one with her slender fingers. It reminded her of snow which in turn reminded her of her favorite season, Winter. “Gris this is so amazing of you. I appreciate you for sharing the cakes your mother made with us. Please thank her for us.” It made her a little homesick for her own mother and more importantly her Irish grandparents. They always made the best desserts especially durring the Winter Solstice when they made their irish soda Breadpudding.

Taking a bite of the cake her eyes lit up as at first the slight cooling sensation hit her mouth before an explosion of peach flavor. “MMMM!” She chewed through her bite thoughtfully. “Peach is my favorite flavor! She exclaimed as she took another bite of her mooncake resting her head gently on Kyle’s shoulder presuming he let her. Kyle’s familiar scent of pine and broom wax mixed in an oddly complimenting manner to the peach and put her at a final fully calmed and relaxed state.

Tonight started out terribly and now I am surrounded by my favorite people.

Before Griseldis could explain each flavor of the mooncake, Kyle already picked a green one and took a big bite of it. "Aah...that's...", seeing her Quidditch Captain seemed to like the green bean mooncake, so she kept quiet about it and let him continued to enjoy it. With Kyle's loud invitation and not being aware that he just called her "Cakes" as a nickname, she happily joined them and took a seat beside the Slytherin boy and facing the captain.

"Hope you don't mind me sitting beside you.", she said to the Slytherin boy with a polite smile. Then she watched the brunette picked the purple mooncake and took a bite, he also seemed to like the taste and complimented it. He introduced himself and told her his name. "You're welcome, Dale. I'm really glad you like it.", Griseldis replied to him cheerfully and noticed that he was reading a book about Chemistry, that kinda made her remember her old school in the Bridgwater. She missed her old Muggle friends and her homeroom teacher who happened to teach Chemistry. "Oh, you're reading about Chemistry, aren't you? I used to enjoy doing a lot of Chemistry experiments during my time at a Muggle school in my hometown.", Griseldis said to him, suddenly feeling quite wistful, "You know, one of my favorite experiment was creating Crystals, it was really fun that you can grow your own Crystals with only a few ingredients and you have to follow the correct steps to do it, it was like Muggle Magic."

After saying that to Dale, she turned to look at San, she decided on the snow skin mooncake and to moment she took one bite of it. Griseldis could see San's eyes widen in delight as if she just ate the most delicious food in the world. She quickly praised her for being amazing and that somehow made her blushed a little bit. Out of habit, her fingers starting to play a few hair that were sticking out from one of her space buns. She did that everytime when she felt bubbles of joy or being slightly shy about it. When she mentioned about thanking her mother for making such wonderful mooncakes, she couldn't help but smile widely, "Of course, I'm sure my mother will be very happy to know that my friends like her mooncakes."

Griseldis watched as San resting her head on Kyle's shoulder made her wonder. Hmm...San and Captain really seem very close...it's a good thing though, having someone you can trust and comfortable with each other, especially in a place like Hogwarts. She rested her own head on her hand and smiled gently at them. "Anyway, how are you all these days? Anything new happened lately?" She asked curiously.

As Kyle bit down into the green cake his first thought was This is not a cake oh god! but as he chewed and the flavor of the cake worked its way around his tongue he found himself plesantly surprised. He had no idea what exactly he was eating but it was sweet and ultimately tasty, so while not what he would normally call a cake he couldn't really complain. Cakes had not let him down. This time

As he spoke with his full mouth San suddenly put her hand over his mouth and he simply blinked, a slight red coming to his cheeks as she scolded him. 'Course his Ma would scold him for being gross, but why did San care? And why did he care THAT she cared? Regardless of the whys he closed his mouth and finished a few chews before he swallowed the strange green cake

As San rested her head on his shoulder he felt a strange mixture of butterflies and frogs moving around in his stomach, though he would blame it on the the green cake he had just shoved down his gullet. Not like that would stop him from eating another should the opportunity present itself in the future. After all, he regularly drank Pumpkin Juice even though he threw up almost every time he drank it, or just felt awful in general. But what could he do? A Kestral swore by it.

It was then Kyle was pulled from his thoughts as he realized something strange was happening. He had three people sitting with him at the table. His best friend San, His teammate and budding new friend Gris, and the boy who Santario vouched for Dale. Nobody seemed overly scared by him, and infact 2 of the 3 seemed to genuinely like him being there with them. He was not used to this sort of positive social dynamic. Kyle swallowed and slid his hands into his jacket pockets as a slight smile came to his face. This was nice

Dale looked down at his books, marking a few things with a pen he had gotten from his pockets, jotting down just a few words and drawing a few diagrams with his scratchy handwriting. He finished up his cake and pulled out a bottle water from his bag, he took a drink and put it back. Gris had said she hoped he didn't mind if she sat next to him, "No I don't mind." Gris had also seemed to know what he was reading about, Dale was a bit surprised he hadn't met a single person yet that knew a single thing about muggle subjects, and he had been at Hogwarts for a full year, she had said that used to do chemistry experiments in her muggle school at her hometown, growing crystals and things like that.

Dale's school never did chemistry experiments, well at school anyways. "Ahh, My school never did chemistry experiments, my dad taught me everything I know. Id never thought I would meet someone who would know about chemistry here, are your parents' muggle too?" That wasn't all true, Dale had learned more about more explosive chemicals by himself, through self-experimentation, but he wasn't going to admit that to anybody anytime soon.

Dale went back to reading his book, but through the corner of his eye, he could see Santario had put her head on Kyle's shoulders... It made sense to Dale now why Kyle had been so protective of Santario, Dale's mother had forced him to watch enough romance movies to understand what was going on here. Seeing them reminded Dale of... Lark. Dale's cheeks suddenly became red he shoved his head back into his book, "not right now, you're here to study." Dale scolded himself.
