Graci's extrovert kick had worn off. Not completely, but now she could appreciate the introverted ways of silence. Which was why she was in the library the fateful Wednesday evening trying to parcel out her real thoughts and feelings. All while trying to not stain her hands with the blasted ink.
language, Graci, happy thoughts. Summer nights in Greece. Souvlaki. Myths with Giagiá and Pappoús. Back to journaling.
Graci knew the library was more for studying, but she was studying herself. And it was one of the relatively quieter places in the school.
She was conflicted again as to what she was really like. The thick fog was back beneath her ribs, thick with questions and contradiction. So Graci took out a piece of parchment and pretended the fog was her ink, a way to expel it from her body.
I like talking to people, but I still need time to recharge.
I like listening more than talking, but I can still yap your ear off.
I am loyal. Supportive. Curious.
'Strength can come in many forms.'
Graci sighed, some of the tension gone, replaced with peaceful quiet. 'I am statements' always work best to figure out how one truly feels.
I am learning.
Learning to deal with the fog as well as embrace it.
Learning that change is inevitable.
As well as inedible, but that's besides the point.
Graci thought about the kind of person she wanted to become, leaning back in her chair before hunching right back over her paper.
I want to be kind.
I want to exude a sort of comforting presence.
I want to be thoughtful.
I want to be a confidant.
I want to be a vessel for someone understanding themselves.
It’s strange how you can feel more like yourself in silence than in conversation — like the quiet finally stops reflecting back what others see, and just shows… you.

She knew that nights at Hogwarts always ended early, so if she went out, she had to enjoy it. She liked to visit the different parts of the school in peace, listening to the walls whisper stories from millions of years ago. That day, it was time for the library. She'd been there a couple of times, but she'd never been able to enjoy the art in that ancient space. First, she visited the halls, running her fingers over some of the cold spines that sat side by side, enjoying the colors that had faded with time. Her fingers lingered for a few more seconds on one of the books. Turning her blue eyes toward it, she found a book titled "Everything Known About Veelas," by an unknown author. —Who would read this...?—. She murmured as she picked up the book and headed toward the tables set up for her to study.
And there She found her.
Long, slightly wavy brown hair. It was the first thing she saw, and what caught her attention the most. Then her items. Quill, ink, parchment. Simply a comfort to many people. She wasn't one of those people. There was something about her essence that immediately sparked her curiosity. She didn't like being nosy, but when someone caught her attention, it was almost inevitable, and something inside her told her: ask her.
Stelle took a deep breath, swaying, thinking about what she might say; her mind was blank despite her efforts. She let the cold air of the library fill her body, like a serum to find tranquility. So to avoid a mental tangle, she simply sat down next to her, "accidentally" opening her book with a loud bang, and the thud between the cover and the table was the only sound that filled the room. She bit her lower lip, regretful, and took a deep breath to avoid expressing her nerves.
Maybe it was too much.
Stelle wasn't the type to read as a primary hobby, much less write. Ink stains bothered her a lot, and nothing that had to do with stains brought back good memories, except cows. Despite that, this Gryffindor girl had caught her attention. The way she wrote, so focused and emanating emotion. She decided to stay silent, because she thought interrupting her at what seemed like the height of her inspiration was a waste of potential. Instead, Stelle focused more on her own reading, wanting to know what the books portrayed about people like her. It wasn't just that; there was a new reason behind her sudden interest. Her emotions had been on a roller coaster, experiencing ups and downs in her confidence and, above all, insecurity. Insecurity about what people might think of her. Being considered a pretty face didn't bother her; what bothered her was that people thought she was fake or stupid for something she couldn't handle. According to her grandmother, it was simple envy, but she had decided that she could change that perception of people like her, at least a little. Somehow, the new stranger had brought her a certain peace, as if without words they could secretly confide in each other at that moment. She mentally shook her head; it was crazy to say something like that about someone who was out there. In other, more accurate words, she could feel accompanied without disturbing anyone.

Graci closed her journal, looking again at the odd cover that wasn't like how it first was when her mother sent it to her. She decided it didn't warrant her attention and instead checked to see if she'd stained her hands further. She said she didn't mind the stains but they drove her crazy. They weren't even on both hands, just her left, almost a permanent tattoo at this point.
I'm going to need either a pen that dries in record time or a magic quill.
Graci's then remembered why she had closed her journal in the first place. Ah yes, the girl who I could sit by for hours, her presence is so calming.
Graci figured that the only reason for putting down a book just a tad louder than usual was for getting someone's attention.
She turned her head, imperceptibly tilting it sideways, and said, "Hello, mysterious library stranger. I'm Gracilia, who might you be?"
Graci took in everything about the other girl. Kind face, calm demeanor. The kind of person that made you want to spill all your secrets to. And then listen to our hearts content about all the happenings of their world.
She also noticed that the girl was reading a book on Veelas. Maybe that could be an important face, maybe she could just be educating herself. Only one way to find out.

She looked into her eyes, as she usually did with other people. But, unlike a few people (namely, Pam, Ruth, and Raf), they decided to observe her a little more closely. —Stelle, with an E at the end. It's a pleasure, Gra...—. She took a deep breath for a moment, lowering her gaze; biting her tongue, she hated words or names that were (in her opinion) too long; the excess of syllables tangled her thoughts. She looked up naturally, without a hint of shyness in her voice: —Can I call you Graci?—. she asked more directly, without a hint of embarrassment. She ran her gaze over Gracilia once more, more carefully, curiously.
Had she seen her before? Perhaps in class? She wasn't one to pay much attention to her surroundings, but she remembered faces. She thought for a moment longer; she wanted to be able to talk to her a little. It would be a waste to have made such a fuss and not speak to her now. —So… what are you writing?—. she asked, still staring at the pictures in the book in front of her, even though she had completely distracted herself from her reading. All her attention, even though she pretended otherwise, was focused on that little untold story that Graci seemed to be writing with such care.

Graci didn't notice that she had introduced herself as Gracilia. Usually she just did Graci or her full name and then her plethora of nicknames.
"Oh, yes, you can call me Graci. or any other nickname, really. And Stelle, with an 'e', is a beautiful name. Truly."
Graci appreciated this girl. How unapologetic she was to be herself. Graci could appreciate that. The kind of confidence that could make friends better than anything.
Graci was silently surprised when the girl, Stelle, asked what she was writing. Which really shouldn't have surprised her, Stelle did sit next to her, after all.
"Just journaling. It's something I've picked up since coming to Hogwarts. helps me think without blabbering my whole thought process to people." And how well that was working, she didn't know. "I find 'I AM' statements to be particularly helpful when trying to figure out yourself."
Graci grinned, "The cover keeps changing though, which is odd. Do you have anything you like to do to get your words out? Other than talking, I mean."
Graci didn't know where this conversation was going, only that she liked the present company. Stelle was comforting in a way Graci hadn't known someone could be.

A diary. Stelle had one, though it wasn't particularly full of letters. In fact, it was a mess. It was a diary filled with clippings, dried flowers, drawings, small letters, and stamps. The other difference was that she didn't use it to discover herself; she used it to discover herself in a more artistic way. She let Graci express herself, looking at her with endless curiosity. And as soon as she spoke back, she didn't know what to say for sure.
—I like to paint—. she replied without thinking much. It was her second favorite thing, the first being walking. Three days ago, painting had taken a new place in her heart because she had met someone who quickly became special to her. —And I also like to explore; I walk a lot. Maybe I should stop walking and start studying more—. she joked, looking at her with a smile.
Graci was pretty and simple, like a warm autumn breeze, her spots like the leaves on the trees at that time of year. She leaned on her hands and asked curiously, —What are you doing here at this hour? Can't you sleep?—. While it wasn't the best way to continue a conversation, it was what came most naturally to her so she could have time to think a little more. She looked up at the ceiling, remembering what she'd been doing the past few days so she could ask something more interesting than, "Do you have a favorite color?" It was then that the most recent student event came to mind. The Spring Soirée. It had been a big event, so pretending to recognize her from there wasn't much point; it hadn't been that long to see that many people. Asking a general question was her best bet. —Did you go to the Spring Soirée? It was a great event, I personally enjoyed it a lot—.

Graci relaxed a bit, happy that she didn't have to be all sorts of sociable and funny.
"Painting is nice. I'm not much of a painter myself but I like looking at it and complimenting people on their work. And I've also found that I enjoy walking more than I thought? Like, I walked around the neighbourhood back in London, and walked the beach in Greece. And now I find myself randomly walking on the grounds."
Stelle was... nice to talk to. She had very good manners, which Graci wouldn't have minded either way, but it speaks of ones upbringing. Most times.
"As for why I'm up... I'm always up. Well, not always, but a lot. And yes, I did go to the soiree. Took me a bit to be able to understand its pronunciation. I didn't go with anyone, but I met a girl, Andronica. Did you go with anyone? Or meet anyone new or interesting? Possibly both."
Graci hadn't seen Stelle at the ball. Then again, she wouldn't have remembered her face unless she had actually talked to her, which she hadn't. Graci didn't remember much of that night after her tripping/ being shoved into Andronica.
Then again, she had a rather on and off memory regardless. One of her flaws, along with the clumsiness. Which was rather annoying at times. Especially in heels at weddings... or funerals.Thinking of funeral... why is 'funeral' spelled with fun. There is nothing fun about a funeral at all. Or the way there's the word 'laughter' in slaughter. I'm not laughing and they definitely aren't either.
Graci was starting to think that she was either ADHD or had something wrong with her brain. One or the other. Not both. Maybe both.

Hearing all the places she knew surprised her. Stelle's family didn't travel much, except to the city to see her grandmother. She'd always been more of a country girl. That never bothered her; in fact, she enjoyed nature and quiet; cities were usually too noisy. Where was Graci from? Was it rude to ask out of the blue? It wasn't a relevant fact, but that didn't stop her from being curious. She wasn't Scottish; her pronunciation was totally different, but she couldn't identify where she was from.
When Graci answered her question about the dance, she paid close attention again. When the Gryffindor girl guessed she'd gone with someone and met people, she smiled graciously. —What makes you think that?—. she asked gently, looking at her, curious about her answer.
—Actually, I went with a friend, but we ran into each other there. First, I met up with my friends and met someone dressed as a chicken. Although, personally, I didn't fully understand the joke—. she said after a few minutes. —Although they left a few minutes after we met, I spent the rest of the night with Raf—. she added with a soft smile. Their night had been pleasant, that was clear to her. Although she hadn't fully gotten to know him yet, Rafal had become a person she liked best. Graci gave her the same feeling: simple, calm, clumsy. Perhaps meeting her would be a nice coincidence.
She carefully ran her fingers through her hair, untangling it, then separated it into three sections and began to braid it. After finishing her hairstyle, she tossed the braid back and looked at her again. She had already confirmed that she was pleasant and could talk, now she wanted to get to know her more. —So, tell me about yourself—. she asked softly.

Graci smiled when Stelle asked her a question about why she thought something. people who did that either a) asked really good, introspective questions, or b) thought you were being mean/rude/etc.
"You just seem so nice, like people would want to spend time with you, ya know? Sorry if it sounded wrong." Graci knew that Stelle probably thought Graci was going to say something like 'oh, because you're so pretty'. Or something like that. But Graci wasn't that vain or all together concerned with hers or other's looks. It just... wasn't important to her. She did make a point to look nice, but that was just what everyone did.
She listened intently as Stelle talked about her ball experience, grateful that she wasn't too spacey today. No zoning out for me, not today, at least.
"I didn't go with anyone. Though I did accidentally run into a girl and we talked for a bit. That was, until she left, quite abruptly, I might add."
Andronica had made an abrupt departure, leaving Graci to flirt around the ball room, looking and listening, and not interacting with anyone in particular.
"Well, there isn't much to tell about me. Nothing interesting, at least. I could tell you about my family, hobbies, random thoughts. Anything, really. I mean, I could give you a description like on a police report. 'Tell me about yourself' is a pretty broad question."

Her response was pleasant, in fact, much more pleasant than she'd thought. —Quiet, in fact, quite the opposite. I would have hated you if you'd said 'oh, because you're pretty'—. she replied gently, looking at her. She definitely liked this girl. She was the very definition of Gryffindor, or so she felt. And hearing her response to his "tell me about yourself" was so genuine, it made her let out a small laugh, while she searched for an equally witty way to answer she.
—I like broad questions; that way conversations don't end with a yes or no—. she replied later. —For example, when you mentioned the words 'police report,' I couldn't help but mention my grandfather's enormous library, full of books about Sherlock Holmes. Which is interesting because I've never seen my grandfather reading. Although, to be honest, I find reading boring as hell, ironic considering where we are—. She took a deep breath for a few seconds, rubbing her fingertips against each other. —So... what can you tell me about yourself?—.
Stelle offers her a smile before releasing her fingers. She always forgot the reason for that small reaction. Was it nerves, stress or relaxation? She'd already forgotten, as well as her real reason for being there before meeting this new companion. If she had forgotten, it probably wasn't even that important.
