Cirrus stretched his arms above his head letting out a small grunt as he did so, the warm sun did not help at all with the boy's growing idleness. Just like a sunflower in summer, Cirrus found himself constantly attracted to the rays of light. Which had grown stronger with nearing of the end of spring much to his delight, today was no exception to this. The boy even went as so far to pack a bit of food from my he great hall and make his way to the courtyard to further enjoy this beautiful warm day.

Due to it being around lunch time there were a good amount of students scrambling here and there, trying to cut through as a short cut to classes or meet-up and mingle with friends. Cirrus waved to the occasional person he recognized while passing by, giving each a sweet friendly smile. Although he knew quite a bit of people he only really had a couple good close friends.

If he really thought about it, he had grown alot socially within his first year at Hogwarts. The boy had gone from extremely shy with no friends, having kept to himself, to being more open, but still quiet, and having more than several... Not to mention his crush on his first friend he had made, Gekko. Just thinking about her made his ears tinge red, he really needed to get a hold of himself, they were JUST friends....

The boy let his honey colored eyes scan the surrounding courtyard, looking for a possible spot where he could sit and enjoy his meal. Until his eyes landed on a girl either first year, second, or maybe even third? It was hard to pinpoint exactly due to her taller height, her loose curls fallen a few inches above her shoulders. But what was most notable was how she was sitting alone, isolated despite being around so many students.

Cirrus titled his head slightly and furrowed an eyebrow, the boy could feel some sort of welling in his chest. Maybe a mixture of worry and something else he couldn't quite put his finger on, but if nothing above all else... The Hufflepuff could relate with the sense of singularity. Even with as much romanticization as he tried when he was by himself the feeling of loneliness and ostracization followed him like a plague.

The girl couldn't feel much different than how he was, no matter how tough the person, everyone needed someone. If we humans were meant to be alone, then only a single one should exist... Right? Cirrus walked over feeling a sense of obligation to make her feel welcomed, and if anything maybe he could make a new friend?

The mousy haired boy dressed in his Hufflepuff robes sat beside the Gryffindor, he took out his lunch placing it out on his lap as the sun shone overhead. He then looked over letting a friendly smile spread across his features, exposing his dimples as he did so.

"Beautiful day isnae it? A couldnae help but come ootside tae eat, it seemit a waste no ower," Cirrus spoke whilst peeling his orange, the skin creating a subtle citrus aroma around them. "whit brings ye oot here?"

Olivia's week hadn't been the best so far. She had stayed up late almost every night doing homework. She had been inattentive in class and had forgotten to take notes. She was also worried about Monday when there was a full moon. Life at Hogwarts sucked.

Today, she had been in a bad mood after reading an article in The Daily Prophet about half-bloods. Olivia had crumpled up the newspaper and thrown it across the dining hall at breakfast after reading the condescending article. Then she had snapped at some students and disappeared.

Now she was sitting alone in the courtyard during lunch. She was thinking about everything and nothing. That she didn't fit in. That she was alone. That she was behind on all her schoolwork. That her father hadn't answered any of her letters.

But her thoughts were interrupted when she suddenly felt someone sit down next to her. She glanced at the boy next to her. A Hufflepuff, first year student and quite... cute.

When he asked: "Beautiful day isn't it? I couldn't help but come outside to eat, it seemed a waste not too," Olivia automatically glanced up at the sky which was almost cloudless.

When he started peeling the orange, Olivia glanced at him furtively. Cute was really the right word. Then when he asked what had brought her there, it took Olivia a moment to answer.

"I don't really know," she finally began. "I usually hang out outside, it's nothing unusual for me." She looked up at the sky and before she could stop herself, she said: "Do you know there's a full moon soon?"

Such a stupid thing to say! What if he understood what she was? How could she just say it without thinking. She really was stupid!

Cirrus maintained his small friendly smile on his features as the girl looked at him with hazel colored eyes further complimented by her freckled face. He then followed her gaze instinctively to the sky, which was a soft baby blue, the sun rays of light slightly obstructed by the soft feathery cirrus clouds that he was so fondly named after. The wispy icy crystals were strewn across the atmosphere, like a painter's finest brush-strokes.

"I don't really know," Cirrus rediverted his attention, focusing his eyes onto the gryffindor as her voice broke the small silence between the two. "I usually hang out outside, it's nothing unusual for me."

He nodded understandably, being more of an outdoorsy person himself. Fondly remembering his different memories that he made just being out in nature, it was oddly comforting. The soft blades of lush spring grass between his fingers was enough to make the boy feel immediately feel at peace, no matter how stressed he was, even if it was just for a moment.

"Do you know there's a full moon soon?" The brunette added, but immediately after the words left her mouth there seemed to be a small bit of... Regret? As odd as that may seem, and Cirrus couldn't pinpoint why or the cause. But he brushed it off.

"Is thare really? A didnae know thon..." The boy said with extrene interest, a small flash of curiousity flashing through his eyes as he tilted his head. "dae ye like astronomy?"

Cirrus then broke the orange in half, giving one to the girl and taking the other for himself. Breaking is into pieces, eating them one at a time as he leaned back using his arm to support his weight.

"bi the way, ma name's cirrus. It's lovely tae meet ye...?" He said pausing, softening his eyes slightly making him appear friendlier than he already was.

Olivia was surprised when he handed her the half orange. “Thank you,” she murmured, eating her half slowly. When he then introduced himself, Olivia couldn’t help but meet his gaze. “Olivia,” she said, her mouth full of orange. She swallowed quickly and blushed. “My name is Olivia. It’s… nice to meet you too?”

“Thanks for the orange,” she said then, smiling a little. Then she looked up at the sky again. “I wouldn’t say Astronomy is one of my favorite subjects but it’s quite… inspiring. There’s so much more out there,” she said then before looking back at Cirrus.

“Excuse me for asking, but why did you sit here with me?” she asked then. She herself couldn’t believe that someone would voluntarily sit next to her. She hoped her question hadn’t hurt him. “Not because I don’t want to,” she quickly added.

Then she looked down at her shoes and started fiddling with her bracelet. She always did that to keep her hands busy or when she was lost in thought. But now she tried not to slip away, it would feel so rude to Cirrus.

“What is your favorite subject?” Olivia then asked in an attempt to start a conversation.

Cirrus ate the last piece of his half of orange, popping it in his mouth while he talked so he speech came out half muffle half chew, not the most pleasant thing but Cirrus was oblivious to his own rather unmannerly action.

"Dinnae mention it, mi orange es su orange... Or somethin like thon," The boy said with his attempt at a bad joke coupled with a rather more awkward laugh. The joke had definitely sounded better in his head, but saying it out loud made him realize just oh poor humor it had been.

At her thoughts about astronomy, the Hufflepuff nodded silently agreeing with her sentiment.

"yeah alot is oot thare, distant galaxies, cosmos, comets, intergalactic councils, aliens... It really is amazin," he spoke while listing them of on his fingers one by one.

He met her gaze at her next question, whilst his hands idly rummaged through his lunchbox for something else to eat, the orange not fully satiating his hunger. Cirrus tapped his chin thoughtfully as he looked at the sky, trying to formulate his reasoning into actual understandable coherent sentences rather than jumbled mumbo jumbo.

"well A guess..." Cirrus started as he looked over at Olivia, a smile contagiously slipping across his features. "A hope it doesnae sound weird but ye remind me o myself. Like whan A first startit hogwarts."

He leaned forward resting his cheek and chin into the palm of his hand, everything about his demeanour just screaming relaxed and non-threatening. But even so, she still seemed to be very nervous and anxious, and by the way she delivered her words it seemed that stuff like this didn't happent to often to her. He could deeply relate to that fact all too well. Cirrus watched as she fiddled with her bracelet, obviously it added some sort of comfort for her so...

"nice bracelet, where'd ye get it from?" He said gesturing his free hand towards it with a quirked eyebrow.

At her question about his favorite subject he went blank, what was his favorite subject? He just sat frozen as if time had stopped, as he gazed into the distance expressionless. Then he got it.

"potions is ma favorite class, whit aboot ye?" He said breaking out of his frozem state with a large grin.

Olivia listened to Cirrus as he spoke. When he asked her about her bracelet, she looked down at it. “Oh,” she said, and without her being able to stop them, tears welled up in her eyes. “It was… my mother’s.”

Olivia hurriedly wiped her eyes. She couldn't break down in the middle of a conversation. Then Cirrus told her that his favorite class was Potions. Olivia nodded. "Interesting, I like it too, but not as much as some others. I can't wait until third year when we get to start taking care of magical animals," Olivia replied, smiling broadly. "I love magical animals, and animals in general. You could say I have a certain connection with them."

But Olivia regretted saying that because the tears came back. The memories of her mother became too much. The bracelet, the astronomy, the magical creatures, everything had something to do with Olivia's mother.

Olivia turned away as the first tears began to flow. “I’m sorry,” she said over her shoulder to Cirrus, burying her face in her hands. She didn’t want him, or anyone else, to see her like this. So vulnerable, so open.

Olivia tried to stop crying but she couldn't. She missed her mother so much.

Gazing off into the distance would serve to have been a mistake for Cirrus, as he hadn't realized his small question would at normal circumstances deem to be simple and often elicit a somewhat similar or normal response. But this wasn't, as it turned out, a small question and neither was it under normal circumstances, he hadn't known the sentimental value behind this bracelet. But in reality, no single object holds the hurt that stings one heart, but rather the bittersweet emotions or memories that latch themselves around the said objects.

Why did one think that ghosts haunt houses? Or why dark wizardry horcruxes split pieces of their soul into objects? They aren't the object, but their spirit prevails amongst them, a painful memory that holds true to the fractured soul; that fragment captured in the small silver chain adorned with a crescent moon. If he had known maybe he wouldn't have said anything, or at the very least be better prepared amongst their light-hearted conversation. Worse was, he had been oblivious to the welling in her stirring hazel eyes.

“It was… my mother’s.” He hadn't noticed the few drops that she quickly swiped away, cause he was too stuck in his own mindless daydreams, staring at the clouds he was named afterwards. Maybe that's why he was such an airhead at times, but this was the last moment he needed to be floating into infinity and beyond.

Cirrus nodded at her choice of class agreeing with her sentiment before pausing at her statement of 'you could say I have a certain connection with them', and before he could ask what she meant by that, he turned his head opening his mouth just to snap it shut once more after seeing the tears threatening to fall from glassy eyes. Then the dam broke, tears falling like waterfalls, streaming down her face like rain against a window during a storm. Oh. She turned away quickly, retreating into herself as she apologized. The boy was somewhat puzzled, what had elicit tears if he had been paying closer attention he might've known or seen the signs. But for now he had to pay for the repercussions of his own naivety.

He leaned forward slightly reaching a hand out to hesitantly rub pat her back for a sense of reassurance dropping his voice a but more, before reaching to grab a napkin from his lunchbox, handing it to her. "Hey, ye dinnae neit tae apologize, it's okay tae cry y'know?" He said in a gentle tone with a tinge of worry, mimicking the best he could what his mother would do when he himself was upset, but of course he was trying to respect the girl's space since they didn't know each other very well. "A'm sorry gin A says anythin or did anythin tae upset ye... Did ma questions overwhelm ye?"

He continued to gently pat her back as he paused for a second, letting her cry it out a little before speaking up again. "dae ye want tae talk aboot it? sometimes thon makes ye feel better than bottlin it aw i, or we can dae somethin tae tak yer mind aff o't gin ye'd like?"

Hey, you don't need to apologize, it's okay to cry y'know?

I'm sorry if I said anything or did anything to upset you... Did my questions overwhelm you?

Do you want to talk about it? Sometimes that makes you feel better than bottling it all in, or we can do something to take your mind off of it if you'd like?

Olivia took the napkin and wiped her eyes. She felt really exposed. To have started crying in the middle of a public place felt so wrong to her. She gathered herself and then turned to Cirrus again.

At his first question, Olivia just shook her head. “Not for me, not like this,” she says, taking a few calming breaths. When Cirrus then asks if it was his questions that upset her, she shakes her head again. “No, no, absolutely not,” she says quickly. “It was my fault, all the things they made me think about… think about my mother.”

She actually felt calmer when Cirrus patted her back and when he said the last thing, Olivia moved unconsciously. She turned to Cirrus and then everything started to flow out: "My mother died a long time but I've had a bit of a difficult time here at Hogwarts. And all the things: the astronomy, my bracelet, care of magical creatures, everything made me think of her. It just got too much."

Then Olivia realized what she had just done and quickly looked down at the ground, her cheeks flushing red. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to drop everything on you like that. Maybe I should go,” she said, making a gesture to get up.
