An apology
It was a chilly Saturday morning and Eri was walking out on the grounds. There was something she wanted to do and it just bothered her that she was never successful in getting her first friend back. She had learned along time ago that trying spells that you don't know that well is not a good idea. Now her first friend thinks she is a death witch and it bothers her. So that's why the brunette was out in the morning looking for that specific person to try and apologize to, again.
Eri was wearing an olive green baggy t-shirt and black sweatpants. On her feet were her favorite black high top sneakers. Her long brown hair was swept over to the side and her many ear piercings glimmered in the sun. Once the girl spotted the one person she was looking for she carefully walked over to him. She didn't want to cause any alarm and she didn't want to spoil him in fear of getting hurt. So when she was a good distance away she called out. "Keagen. Can we talk?" She hoped he would say yes instead of running away or trying to attack her in some way.

Kaegen stared at the incoming threat, the incoming creature with the little, pitch-black piece of coal for a heart. She was something beyond human, something truly and completely evil. But Kaegen didn't especially care any more. He had moved past that sort of pain, and found an entirely new outlook on life. Sure, he was still aware of what was going on, but he didn't really care any more. He was trying to keep on living just being himself, he was trying to keep hold of whatever last bits of sanity he still had.
"I have no conflict with you or your kind. Pick your meals among the lesser, and be content."
Kaegen didn't back down, or make a move to flee. He was too tired to care, and too angry to feel much fear. This game was over and done, he hadn't seen airheat in so long it was almost hazy. It was an age long past, an age of fear and fighting, of war and turmoil that swirled about in distant days. Kaegen looked worse than he ever had, eyes set in heavy dark shadows, hair a mess, robe entirely frayed. His hands were long and spidery, tipped with dull claws. He was unamused, unpleased, and far too tired.

Eri looked at Keagen. He looked awful. His eyes rimmed with black from weariness, robe frayed, and his hair a mess. She felt sorry for him. Maybe it would be best to just go their separate ways. She hadn't made any progress every time she tried to apologize. What good would it do now? This was her last attempt before she would just let him be. "I'm sorry for what I did to you. I'm not here to hurt you. I'm only here to apologize one last time. I know any chance of rebuilding our friendship is futile and I'll leave you alone after this. I truly am sorry."
She had also changed. Her skin was a bit darker from the sun, her ear was pierced, and she had grown a bit taller. She had changed her views on life. The brunette no longer wanted to prove herself as being perfect, because she wasn't. Eri was far from it but she no longer has anyone she needed to prove herself to. The girl had also gone through some hard times, with the health of her best friend dwindling away. She had realized how short life could be and didn't want any regrets. She just wanted Kaegen to know she was truly sorry.

"Okay."
He didn't see the point of this. Why would she approach him just to say that she was sorry, only to follow it up by saying that any chance of rebuilding a friendship she thought they had was futile and that she planned on leaving him alone. If she planned on leaving him alone then what was the point of saying sorry, why not just start leaving him alone?
Kaegen's eyes narrowed in either confusion or suspicion, his mouth opened, as if to say something else, but then he thought better of it. Why make any other argument or offer, she had clearly made up her mind. The conversation had been over as soon as it had begun. It had ended with the other girl clearly saying that it was over. Well, that was no business of his. If she wanted to leave him alone then she could, he was going to work on his own life, and problems.
The little ravenclaw started to back away slowly, lifting an arm in a wave goodbye. Did he understand what was going on? No, not even a little bit. But it didn't really sound like it mattered, so he didn't worry.

Eri knew she probably should have tried a little harder and maybe not say things were over, but she was tired of feeling guilty. In her own way this was her trying to relieve the guilt. She had hurt and felt awful about it and therefore decided to just leave him alone. If she wasn't in his life then maybe she couldn't mess it up anymore. Ever since that incident in their first year she had always worried that she would accidentally hurt someone else and lose them as a friend, and that caused her to close herself off from others.
The brunette waved back and turned towards the castle. Her eyes filled with tears of regret as she walked back to the giant castle. She had told him she was sorry, but words couldn't erase what had happened that was something that would always haunt her mind and thoughts. Her aunt had told her to learn from mistakes and not let them take over everything you do, but that's what Eri did. She let them rule her life and destroy her conscious bit by bit.
The girl wiped her eyes before the tears could freely flow and pushed her emotions back into the small bottle she kept them in. She hadn't walked very far before she decided to turn around. "I know I haven't really been making sense and I've contradicted myself, but is there any chance that I could try to make things up to you? I promise if you say no I will keep my word to leave you alone." She didn't know why she was still trying, but she hoped there was a tiny chance he wouldn't say no.

Kaegen stiffened as the girl stopped to talk to him once more. Hadn't they just finished? It made sense from the girl's point of view. She hadn't had the confidence, and then something like hope had been kindled, courage making her stop to try and reach the half vampire. But Kaegen didn't recognize that, any of it. He wasn't interested in humans, or their emotions and moods. He didn't recognize why Eri did what she did, he was only interested in moving himself forward, in making sure he survived until the next morning.
Kaegen was a singularly selfish little boy, holding no sympathy or empathy for whatever his housemate was going through. To him, the only thing that truly mattered was himself, and things that helped him. The tears in her eyes meant very little, even if he had managed to catch sight of them.
"I don't have the time or the patience to puzzle through your games."
He kept walking. Why would he believe something to be sincere if the person who was trying to be sincere couldn't even keep her story straight? It didn't even sound like she believed herself, it was like she wasn't even trying anymore. Honestly, she hadn't done much since that day in first year. But what did that matter? It was ancient history.
