It looked like Serena had the same idea she had, take refuge at the refreshments! Safety in numbers! All that jazz.. Laughing as Serena bounded towards her and Elz she gave the girl a quick hug in greeting.

"Same! We sort of took advantage of the food ta get a second away from everything." Lark offered Serena a cup, a little worried at the girl's reaction to swallowing. "Well, I did anyway.. poor Elz. I sort ah' dragged her along." She gave the blonde a sideways smirk in apology. "You look great though Serena! I'm glad ya made it."

Lark looked back across the room towards where Dale was standing. "I know what you mean.. I'm really not used ta this sort of thing either." Wistfully she stared at Dale agreeing with Serena's mention of being freaked out. It felt safer around her friends like she actually did fit in.. but even with this mask it was still all pretend, especially the surge of confidence she had felt earlier. Every other student that was paired off seemed to be enjoying themselves.. some sort of connection between them. It made her a little nervous about how Dale looked at her. Seeing him dressed in a suit made Lark's heart flutter once more. He was so handsome.. So tall. Even with his hair falling over his mask and untamed on his head, Lark felt a heat rise in her cheeks and neck. This felt similar to how she had started to feel for James but look how that had ended. Was she being foolish again? Some misunderstanding?

Lark downed another drink the fizz settling her stomach and tickling her throat. Either way this feeling was different in some way... she wasn't as worried. Not as anxious around Dale. He was calming somehow. Part of her wanted to strut over to him and dance around the room and the other part, a small part, was wondering just how Dale did feel. 'It doesn't matter.. not now.' If she was being honest it just felt nice to have someone who made her feel good about herself. She agreed with her thoughts to just ride the feelings out, see where they led her instead of overthinking.

Ever since the announcement of the Masquerade Ball, Alan had been rather reluctant to attend as the young lad had trouble working with crowds. With the idea of it being a Masquerade and a promise to his best friend Gris, the boy couldn't help but blush at the thought. Even if Alan were to embarrass himself or make a mistake the fact that the boy's face was concealed left many possibilities to make an appearance. Not wanting to disappoint his friend as soon as he could quickly write a letter to his family within that same week they boy received a package containing an altered dress robe previously owned by his Father. The Robe was completely redesigned to fit Alan the arms weren't too short, the colour of the robe itself was a dark shade of blue reminiscent to the colours of Ravenclaw house added with a silver shirt to go underneath and as per his request his Nan made him a Raven looking mask with a black beak and white frame to compliment the robes.

On the day of the ball, Alan was quite excited for the first time in a long forever the boy had no shred of doubt or worry as to how this could go wrong. Taking a full hour to dress and manage other factors such as smell with a rare occasion to sleek back his curly hair, giving up and leaving his hair as it is for it was a losing battle to flatten thick amounts of hair. Wanting to be punctual the boy made his way remembering to map out his route this time he arrived at the Venue as they were letting people in, seeing the number of people in masks left a sort of relief in his mind. After taking in the many formal attires people have decided to wear on this occasion, being a man of his word he decided to wait outside for his friends to appear, looking around eagerly. Remembering one had perfect duties Alan understood that some of his friends may arrive late. Carrying his pocket watch to check the time Alan let out a sigh wondering if Gris was ever going to show up Until a pleasant sight came into his view a girl around his height was dressed in a red and gold dress with a lion mask to conceal her identity the Ravenclaw boy was jaw dropped. Watching the girl in the lion mask appears to be in a hurry, Alan couldn't help but snicker recognising the buns in her hair but his laughs stop as soon as she slipped and fell.

Feeling bad as the girl Alan recognised as Gris he immediately walked towards Lion Lady, picking up the mask before crouching and offering his hand towards his best friend. With a cheerful smile and a light red blush covering his cheeks, he said to Griseldis "Hey...are you ok? I think you dropped this Gris" Feeling slightly nervous as he's never seen his best friend look like this before the lad couldn't help himself as he continued on "I love the dress your wearing...matches your fiery attitude which...I like in your heh..." Alan awaited Gris response feeling empathetic as he's usually the one that falls over

Elliot pushed open the doors to the ballroom, pausing for a moment to take in the site before him. The space was done up quite nice. A bit fancy for his tastes as he looked down at his simple garb, a gray suit that matched his hair and beard   that was covered by his best black robes. Best only meaning they didn’t have any burn marks in the sleeves or tattered hems, ones he kept in the trunk for official occasions. On his face he donned a traditional black masquerade mask, one he had purchased just for this occasion.

Elliot was late. Well, he didn’t remember seeing any time posted for the event. Either way, it had nothing to do with being fashionable, but the festivities did seem well under way. The event wasn’t really anything the middle aged man would have normally sought out, much preferring the quiet solitude of his classroom with nothing but his bubbling cauldrons and the scrap of the pestle to keep him company. However, this did not mean the man was antisocial. He was looking forward to seeing how the Americans were taking to Hogwarts and for a chance to socialize with his coworkers that wasn’t a meeting or a discussion of lesson plans.

Elliot made his way towards the catering tables at the other end of the room. He smiled politely at the portraits along the walls, even offering a wave to a few of his favorites, happy to see they had been included. It would seem that some of the students had already gotten over excited. A bit of smoke clung to the floor and a couple of the Professors were attempting to escort a few of the kids out of the room. He chuckled lightly to himself. What do you get when you mix preteens and adolescents with magic? Chaos of course. They couldn’t help themselves, it was mild really as the memories of his youth came to mind. Although the chaos of those times were much different than the sight before him. Elliot shook away the frown as he grabbed a small plate of whatever and one of the beverages that was offered.

After a polite nod to the Headmaster, he scanned the room. It would not take long for him to eye a pair of his colleagues already in conversation. Elliot made his way over to Caradoc and Zahid. As he approached his fellow Hufflemen, Elliot raised his glass in greeting.

“Hey gents, mind if I join you for the evening?” He asked with a smile.

Everything had moved quite quickly with way too many other students barging into the situation than should have. It seemed quite a few of the students here had hero complexes, but what was done was done and could not be undone.

He had been braced for Kaegen and although he expected Kaegen to leap for Aurealia he had fully known that he had made himself a target. In fact, he had purposefully made himself a target and a willing blood giver if Kaegen had attacked him. It was simple logic in his mind because he had been there, been through it, attacked the only person he had ever cared about. She did the same for him that he was doing for Kaegen now. He moved his arm just in time exposing the flesh just above his wrist when Keagen’s fangs sunk in.

A sharp intake of breath was taken, and he pinched the bridge of his nose with his free hand to help center the pain. It didn’t matter how many times you felt fangs pierce your skin, it still hurt, a bit like when a doctor lies to you and tells you the shot isn’t going to hurt when it does. The whole point of this was to give the boy willing blood the only thing that would have truly helped him in that situation. Then those fangs were ripped from his arm by someone pulling Kaegen off of him. This caused a hiss to exit from his lips as the pain arced up his arm like a lightning bolt. His eyes were now on Kaegen watching the situation as he leveled himself out mentally making sure he didn’t need to react to what was happening.

Thankfully Olphie stepped in and he could take the moment he needed to collect himself and steel his mind against what happened and what was happening. A lot of people just assumed because you were a Dhampir that you were this all-powerful being and attacking people was just something you enjoyed doing. Most of them were dead wrong and none of them held the developed intelligence to understand what dhampirs went through in a situation like this. He watched a blue-haired girl follow Olphie and Kaegen, that would not do, no not at all. He was then approached by Piérre.

“That drink won’t help us. Do not follow us.”

It was not a suggestion it was a flat out command as he pushed his sleeve down over his wound. He was terrible at healing spells especially in this mindset he would get Olphie to do it as she was no doubt in a better state of mind than he was. He shut his aura off and rushed to catch up to Olphie in the hallway helping directing them away from the other group of students in the hallway and rounding on Elena Jones and anyone else that was with her and tried to follow Olphie.

“This doesn’t concern you any longer. If anyone knows how to help the boy, it’s me. This is your first, last, and final warning.”

With that, he turned on his heel and walked beside Olphie. “Infirmary or my tower are the best options right now.” He murmured to her his fangs finally retracting as the dark vermillion started reclaiming territory back from the black pools in his eyes.

Serena smiled as the other girl explained her name. It was a really lovely meaning - well the first one was. Ornaments were quite nice too, though. When Serena pictured an ornament, she always imagined something beautiful, delicately made and detailed - like a handcrafted wooden ornament full of detail and love. "Ornaments are very pretty," She replied, implying that Adlai must be pretty too.

The conversation turned to her own name, which made her ponder. She actually did not know what language her name had originated from, nor did she know the exact meaning. Her gran said it was a peaceful name but she was not sure what that meant, exactly. "I think it's meant to be a sign of peace or peacefulness, I guess... I'm not sure exactly but that's what my gran said. My middle name is Jodha, named after a princess in history, though." Serena continued, explaining her middle name too. She did not know much about the princess but her grandmother had told her that that was where the inspiration of the name came from. Or rather, when the name became more popular in history.

She had absolutely no idea where Towers came from but she figured the meaning of that was obvious enough. Hogwarts was full of towers, after all. Serena was lucky enough to miss most of the drama. She was far away from it and the weird hardcore metal music that was coming from the band drowned out a lot of the voices. She did hear some yells that cut through but all she could do was sigh. Hogwarts was always full of drama and fighting - why would she ever expect anything else now? She had no idea what the commotion was but it did not seem very serious. At least... nothing appeared to be on fire.

Maybe if she stayed here, she would be far enough away from all of the drama. Though, she could not help but wonder where her friends were. It was a little harder to see when the room was full of people and everyone was dressed in a mask, which made things even harder than they needed to be. Hell, Serena struggled to find her friends in any room that had a lot of people in it - she was kind of shorter than the other students. But the mask made everything unnecessarily complicated. "Do you want to get something to eat or drink?" She asked Adlai suddenly, wondering where the food table was.

The food and drinks were always the best part. Serena knew she had to go venture over there, if she was to stay here.

Apparently, everything was falling into chaos. But Rosie couldn't have cared less.

It was a ball. People were meant to be dancing, eating, talking about normal stuff, whatever. But something always had to go wrong. Always. Rosie didn't even bat an eye. She didn't care about Kaegen's sudden outburst, or Elena's weird infatuation with helping him so much. No offense to them, but Rosie could only hope Kaegen turned out alright by the end. She glanced over her shoulder briefly before looking up at Quinn. It hurt her neck to. She wished he was a few inches shorter. At the end of the day, Rosie was trying to enjoy one day out of her really bad month.

She tilted her head down to who Quinn was talking to, recognizing Marissa North, and her heart sank. The sister of Claryssa North, a friend who had died over a year ago, but sometimes it still stung. It wasn't fair, for people to die so early in their life. Rosie tried to swallow the grief down, managing a smile at Marissa. "Hey, you look nice." Rosie looked up at Quinn. "I'm gonna head over to the snack table since we're going anyway, it's first come first serve with the cookies!" She grinned and nudged him before spinning on her foot and walking away. She headed over to the table and glanced over, seeing Dymph, Phae, and Max. Her smile wavered. It felt like a stereotypical cartoon, with an angel and devil on her shoulders. They were trying to convince her to either go over there, or leave the table entirely.

Rosie sighed and mentally waved them off, waiting for Dymph or Phaedra to look over her way so she could wave to them. She was just hoping they could recognize her despite the mask. It wasn't like who she was, wasn't obvious.

After doing that, Rosie turned and leaned against the table, waiting for Quinn and maybe Marissa to venture over. She couldn't help but smile, she was already having fun. She had gone to the ball with a date this time, with someone who was actually really cool, and her friends were arriving! Despite the touchy and overly romantic children, and the whole Kaegen mess, things were pretty okay.

For now, at least.

Serena quickly took the drink that Lark offered her, muttering the words "Thank you," a little quietly due to still being embarrassed. What neither Serena nor Lark knew, was that this wasn't going to help her at all, in fact it was going to make things worse. Due to Serena being a muggle she had no idea that the drink had magic properties.

Hearing Lark comment on how she looked made Serena stop from drinking, blushing more as she responds with, "Th-thanks. You look good too." Holding the drink in her hand as she looked over to where Lark was looking, raising an eyebrow since it looked like she was looking at a guy. She placed her hand on Lark's shoulder and said, "You know, if he's available, he won't be available forever. Even if you feel nervous you should tell him how you feel. If you wait to long then something bad could happen or someone else could take him. I..." she suddenly looks down before continuing, "I would know.." She shook her head to fight back her tears before looking back up at Lark, saying, "So you should go get him, otherwise you might have ever have the chance."

Serena smiled at Lark before bringing her hand to take a drink. Her eyes grew wide as she tasted sizzling like carbonation in her mouth, making her almost drop the cup. She quickly moved it, thankfully not pouring it on her dress or the floor. She took a few deep breaths, looking back at her drink as she asks out loud, "What on earth? I didn't know this was root beer."

Adlai nodded to Serena’s explanation of her name. Although she didn’t know the exact meaning, Adlai found it at least the slightest bit informational.
Do you want to get something to get or drink?” Serena asked her.

“Sure, I’m not that hungry so I’ll probably just get something to drink.” Adlai said scanning the room to find where the food would be. She particularly didn’t trust the food here not knowing if it was Halal approved. Thus she stopped herself from eating meat entirely just to be safe.

Finally finding the table Adlai tapped Serena’s shoulder and pointed to it. “I think I see it, come on.” She said taking a few steps forward before getting lost in the sea of masked students and professors. Adlai had never guessed how many students Hogwarts could fit but by the size of the school and the amount of people in the ballroom she assumed thousands.

With this sudden thought she began to ponder on how many people in the world could be a wizard or witch. How many other magical schools there could be like Hogwarts, other than the one in America of course.

Reaching the table of food she began to search for the drinks having forgotten that she probably left Serena behind.

Taking another mouthful of the drink, Max swirled it around his mouth as he considered Phaedra's words. It was certainly true that wizards as a whole were more careful now, so it would come down to who was more clever in a situation like that. A good puzzle to think over for the next couple of years - he was sure he... they... could solve it if they put their minds together. Phaedra was a brilliant witch so if they worked together he had a feeling they could accomplish anything whatsoever. Truly this alliance was one of the best things to have happened during the first year of school.

A commotion among a few other ball-goers occurred, and Max's hand was inside his suit jacket before the motion was a conscious thought in his mind. It took all of his willpower to let it drop away from his wand as he saw professors flocking to the situation, and he had to blink rapidly a few times to clear the darkness that had been rising up within him. It felt like any sort of deviation from normal at all set his teeth on edge, made the world narrow to just the bad memories which flickered through his mind like images being portrayed on a slide projector. Regardless of what was actually going on, in his head it was screams, fire, Tommy, Ben, a hand in the dark, the blonde girl called Arabella...

Only Phaedra's presence beside him grounded him, the weight of her against his side like a ward against the bad things. The voices that had appeared to be coming from a long way away - as if through water - were slowly but surely normalizing, and Phaedra's was overtop them all, talking about Dymphna. He forced himself to smile, heart jackhammering in his chest, as he watched the Ravenclaw blonde girl coming through the crowd.

As he came back to himself, he was struck once again by the Ravenclaw Keeper's beauty. Though he'd long suspected she was part-Veela, he felt this genuinely confirmed it. Her face was, in his eyes, like an extremely well-done painting. You could appreciate its details and loveliness yet there was no attraction because that was a surface thing and more than one component made up an attraction. Phaedra's description of her made him choke on his drink a bit too, trying not to laugh at the evident impatience in the words about the bath.

"If both Cleo and you approve, she must be a good one," he said, the humour finally easing his pulse to normal. "We met at the Hufflepuff and Slytherin Quidditch game. She seems nice; I'd like to get to know her better. If I'm being honest, it's mostly because I know you're friends with her and I think we'd both get along with the same sorts of people. I trust your judgement more than the wizarding tabloids about purebloods."

He took another sip of his drink and grinned as both girls took macarons. He scooped up a couple of his own, popping one into his mouth before Dymphna asked a question that made him choke on it. Interrupting anything? There was no mistaking the meaning behind those words and Max's hideous traitor ears coloured at the implication as he forced himself to swallow a half-chewed macaron so he didn't spit crumbs everywhere.

"No, no," he said too quickly, unable to look at Phaedra beside him. This time his heart was pounding for a completely different reason as he shook his head to accentuate his denial. "We're just here as friends. I suppose technically it could be considered a date but it's a friend date. Just to have a good time together. As friends. Dancing, meeting up with other friends, eating food, relaxing together, as friends do." He had no idea half of what he'd just babbled out and he internally cursed about how much of an idiot he was. But obviously Phaedra wouldn't have wanted him to say anything else that implied something more serious and ruined what they had together, so he'd done his best to make it clear.

"There’s something brittle in me that will break before it bends."

Kyle sipped his drink as San spoke, cocking an eyebrow as she mentioned how potions to her were just like Quidditch was to him. While at first this sounded like a completely goofy thing to say. The two things were nothing alike, right? one was all liquids and spells and concoctions and being careful and HOLD ON A SECOND!

She wasn't saying that the two things were similar, she was saying That just like he was passionate about Quidditch and wanted to be the best, she was passionate about potion's and wanted to be the best at that. This made sense too, Sure she was interested in Quidditch but San was way smarter than he was, and nice, and man did she look pretty in that dress...NO SHUT UP BRAIN. Smart, thats the word he was going for. And Potions was something for smart people people, while he just flew around like a brute with a bat.

Kyle downed the rest of his drink and set it down inside a random plant pot in the hallway. "Alright, my headache is going down. You didn't get all done up just to gab with me in the hallway. Let's head on in and show you off, yeah?" he made a dramatic motion of bowing and offering his crooked elbow for her to hold on to as if he was going to be her escort in the ballroom.

Once she had accepted his gesture the two of them would walk back into the ball room, Kyle trying is best to breath through his mouth in a not super obvious way to save his nose the trouble of the ballroom scent, while his key eyes scanned the crowd just in time to see someone being dragged out by two professors and with a curious eye he looked around the ball room for any other trouble.
