The cool thing about aspira was that not only did the bubble allow you to breathe under water, but if you did it right, you could actually see pretty well too! It was like wearing racing goggles under water! Brilliant!
Down here in the water, it was all legs and tentacles! Colin managed to find someone's legs. Thankfully the slimy tentacle slipped away and she was able to swim for the edge of the quay. Her leg look familiar. Avery maybe? Hopefully! He caught sight of the older Durmstrang girl. He hoped that she was able to dislodge the creature from the poor danger noodle's legs, for he saw that pair of legs shoot up towards the surface!
Colin decided that with the kids out of danger, he'd go after the creature itself! He looked this way and that, but the tentacles just kept disappearing into the murky water. He wriggle about in the water. And there he saw it! Greenish, ugly little bugger. Colin knew what it was immediately! Spindly arms. Big round head full of sharp teeth. Loads of tentacles instead of legs. Arms with little suction cup fingers!
Grindylow!
Colin smirked as he swam up behind it and from below! There was no way he was going to let this dark creature attack other students! He'd played at defending Hogwarts from the evils of the Liche King, and now he was going to put himself to the test for real. He slipped Naur an Edraith from his sheath, slowly pointed it towards the grindylow and --- thankfully because he could actually say the incantation inside the air bubble! --- shouted out: "FLIPENDO!"
WHOOOSH!
Colin laughed merrily! "Ach! Poor beastockie didne know what hit him! Got me flipendo right up his jaxie!" Tucking his wand away, Colin surged to the surface and hauled himself out of the water. Still dripping, he surveyed the carnage. It looked like the Durmstrang lad had helped the danger noodle --- Graci something, Colin thought --- out of the water. Avery had gotten out and looked like she was heading back to the safety of the castle!
"You lot alright there?" he asked Graci and Hans. He nodded towards the boy. "Thanks for getting them out! I reckon that was a bit slippery! Too bad they don't teach the spell earlier. There's a really awesome one that you can use to dislodge those slimy blighters!"
Colin turned towards the slimy blighter in question. Liam and Cursa had gathered around it. It looked dead. "I think you killed it, Colin," Cursa said. "It's got a broken nose anyway. Look. It's bleeding."
"Pfft. I didn't hit its nose!" Colin indicated Graci. "I bet that girl smashed his nose in! Worked as well as relashio!" The three boys nodded sagely. The creature laid on the stones of the quay. Twas greenish. Squat and ugly. Its sharp teeth visible through its open mouth. It was definitely slimy. Colin poked it with a toe. It winced.
"Not quite dead, I reckon," said Liam. "Well, we can't leave it up here. It'll die soon enough out of the water. Anyone want to see a grindylow up close before we chuck it back into the water?" he asked anyone who might be interested in an impromptu Magical Creatures lesson. Colin smiled.
Liam launched into his lecture. "Did you know? These things even attack Muggles? I find that hardly fair at all. They've no defenses against the creatures. That's probably why so many of them drown. Usually they just eat fish, but sometimes they like to eat children." Liam smirked as he turned towards Graci, the girl who had actually been dragged down. "Good job kicking this one in the face! Or else you'ld have been lunch! Once ye learn relashio lass, ye'll be able to shoot jets of boiling water at the things, and that'll get them to let you go really quick!"
Colin felt super energised after that adventure! "That was sooooo fun everyone! We should totally do this more often!" Liam and Cursa smirked, nodding in agreement.

@Evelynn Decipio --- didn't post (it's okay!)
Gryffindor Graci, even though she had been dragged under the water by the grindylow was not about to let herself be eaten by the dark creature. Thinking fast, she drove her heel into the poor creature's head! Good aim Graci! You are rewarded the soft crunch of bones breaking as your foot smashes the grindylow's nose! The pain caused the creature to let her go and she shot back to the surface!
Hans, one he realised that the grindylow had released him, took charge of getting the Hogwarts kids out of the water and to the safety of the dock. For his bravery in the face of danger, and also for his awesomé good humour in a stressful situation, Colin dubs thee Sir Hans the Steadfast!
Avery, for her part, once she realised that the slimy creature had let her go, headed straight for the quay, her nice fluffy towel and thence back to Gryffindor Tower where she could undoubtedly enjoy a nice cup of hot choco and forget all about water monsters trying to drag her down to her doom! After all, Avery well knew that there was enough doom to go around whilst flying her broom into castle walls!
Greta's actions seem to have been somewhat mysterious down in the murky waters of the Boathouse. It's very possible she was responsible for helping dislodge the grindylow from the kids' legs! We may never know, by Colin dubs thee Greta the Greathearted for jumping in to the fray and doing what you could to preserve Hogwarts and save the ickle danger noodles from harm!
As for Colin, he saw that Avery and Graci had been freed and were swimming towards the stone quay. He turned his attention to the monster itself. Having successfully conjured an air bubble around his head, he was able to stay under the water longer and cast a spell to blast the dark creature right out of the water!
His hit was strong enough that it knocked the grindylow out cold. Any kids that want to come by and look at it, and listen to Liam's magical creatures lecture are welcome to do so! He's a Ravenclaw, and so has naturally memorised the entire CoMC text book series through year five!
Better get a good look whilst you may! Cursa's about to yeet the poor creature back into the water where it belongs!OOC NOTE: Thanks everyone for playing along in this fun little adventure! No one actually died which is a bonus! Everyone had a grand time! And some of you had a run in with an actual dark creature. I call that a win!
Keep your mind in hell; and don't despair.

| xx | open to interaction 𝔇arkness engulfed her as she dropped below the surface of the water. It was quite lucky that someone had charmed the water for warmth. Even with her experience swimming in the chilly waters near her home in Flåm, it would have been difficult and uncomfortable to keep her eyes open in colder temperatures. Not that it seemed to help her much. She kicked, arm's flailing around below the water down, down, down in the direction that Graci has seemed to vanish. But her chest screamed for air, burning searing behind her sternum before she was able to find her target. Forced to come up for a breath, she gulped at the life-preserving air before immediately diving for a second attempt. By the third dive, she had become quite frantic, wishing desperately that she'd kept had the forethought to keep her wand on her like one of the other boys had thought to do. But honestly, who did that while swimming??? Fortunate must have favoured her on this occasion, however, as she was finally able to make out the murky forms of the girl she was looking for in the water. It was too dark to make out what it was that had hold of her, but Greta clearly noted the swift kick that had been delivered and the apparent freedom the action had provided the girl. As the figure ascended towards the surface, Greta rushed forward to put herself in between the girl and any pursuit the aggressing creature may have made. Fortunately, the girl's kick seemed to have been sufficient to deter any additional assault, leaving Greta free to climb towards the glimmering light herself. Cold air hit her face in stark contrast to the warm waters, the Norwegian blinking water out of her eyes even as hands lifted to wipe her face and smooth back water-logged tresses. Treading water, she spun in a circle to orient herself, catching the sound of her name as she did. Hans (@Archer Duncan). Though still in the water, he seemed healthy and unhurt and his assurance of @Graci Laren's safety soothed some of her lingering worry. "Is she?" she called out to him, glancing around to catch sight of the girl as someone helped her from the waters. "Good," Greta breathed, spitting out water while breast-stroking her way over to Hans as he assisted another younger student to the docks. She was quick to exit the waters after the others had been safely pulled up, water cascading from her form as she did. She lingered at the water's edge only long enough to ensure there weren't any other victims or calls for alarm before going to retrieve her things. Unlike many of the others, she hadn't bothered with a towel. "Aer Calidus." Hot air spurted from the tip of her wand which she used to dry herself and the rest of the younger students who may not yet have learned the spell themselves. "Are you okay?" she asked the one Hans had referred to as Gracilia as well as the others gathered nearby (@Colin McCoire), pulling her dress back on into place as she did. The comment from Hans was a bit peculiar, though. "Interesting experiences?" Greta's experience of Hogwarts had, until relatively recently, actually been fairly benign. In fact, other than the hag slugs expelled from Niffy and Roo, which would never have occurred to her to be Hogwarts related, the bombing in Hogsmeade upon their arrival the previous year was the only real negative encounter she'd had. She had a bit of a hard time following the nearby conversation, but she did catch the mention of Grindylows which drew a sidelong glance back to the water before returning to the rest present. "This is something that is to happen before?"

Graci was more angry at herself for being so dramatic than she was about the grindylow. She was tempted to go back in there and strangle it herself, but it was already rendered unconscious.
She assured everyone that she was fine, because she was. She was just pissed and her ankle was probably gonna bruise, that little bugger was strong. Revenge would be nice. But I don't think I'd win, so some other day.
Graci stood up, gathering her things to leave. She didn't realize how long she had sat there, but she was already dry. This was supposed to be fun. Haha, very funny. She frowned, this could've totally been detention able, but she came so if she told someone... then she'd get into trouble as well. Can't have everything I suppose.
Sighing she made her way back up to her common room, noticing that neither Isla or any of her other dorm mates we in their room. Welp, I'll just tell them about it later. I don't really like the lake anymore. It's too... cold? Filled with disgusting creatures? Full of bad memories now? Ugh, I can't even decide anything anymore.
Graci decided she didn't really care about it all. Grindylows are nasty, that's all to remember about it as far as I'm concerned. I'm just cold and hangry.
OOC note: Graci has left the thread. Low-key had nothing going on for this just wanted to leave the thread lol.

"Well, that was certainly interesting!" Cursa said as kids streamed out of the water to either run away or else gawk at the grindylow lying on the stone dock. The older Durmstrang girl checked to make sure everyone was okay. It seemed like a few kids had been attacked. "Looks like no one got hurt, all except this poor grindylow!" Cursa commented. He observed the Hogwarts girl with admiration. "Wow! You really demolished its face! I hope your foot feels better!" he called out as she left the scene.
Colin poked at the slimy creature. It winced, likely reeling from the girl's powerful kick. Liam said: "I bet this one will never attack a kid again!" Cursa wasn't so sure. It didn't look particularly self reflective. It would likely try to bite anyone's hand off why tried to get near it. One of the other boys, at least, had a positive experience. Cursa caught him talking about it being an interesting experience.
The Durmstrang girl asked: "This is something that is to happen before?"
Colin turned towards her and gave her a short laugh. "Oh, aye!" he said. "Last year at the ball loads of kids were attacked by grindylows! There was this boating activity we could do, and that's where they attacked." Cursa noted the dreamy look cross over Colin's expression. He rolled his eyes. "Of course! They didn't attack our boat. I don't know why. Me and Clair were kissing most of the time and totally defenseless!" Cursa shook his head.
Cursa glanced at Liam. "I'll be sure to tell that story to Emily, Col!" he said, waiting for the inevitable shocked expression to take over Colin's face. He laughed. "Anyway, I think this poor thing has had enough of life on the dock. Time to send him back to his watery home!" Cursa withdrew his wand and aimed it at the defeated lake creature. "FLIPENDO!" he shouted.
As the magic hit the poor creature, it gave a squeak as it rocketed off the dock and way out into the water. With a sad little plop and a widening ring of ripples, that was the end of the Battle of the Boathouse! "Well that's that! So what's next? I'm starving!" Once the boys got dried off and said goodbye to any kids remaining, they headed out laughing and retelling all the tales of glory that they'd just been through.
Cursa, Colin & Liam leave the thread.
