He still was out of breath after his run to the room and back, twice, but Arslan merciless dragged him wherever he wanted to go. "A-", he tried to protest. More than once he was tripping over his open shoelace. Or maybe his coat, Timothy wasn't sure.

They were late, he could see that at first glance. The room was already filled with people and gowns and people in gowns. He also could taste the heavy mixture of various perfumes his tongue, causing him to wrinkle his nose. Not only that, some horrible band was shouting indistinctive words. Isn't that fantastic? Groaning he put on his mask and immediately felt better. Now the people would not know when he rolled his eyes at them, which definitely improved his current situation.

As he saw the hundreths of students dance and walk through the brightly lit ballroom, he thought about the student he had written the letter. It was the first time since he had arrived here, that he spent a second to actually try to remember the name. The student had never written back, taking Timothy's advice to heart to spare both of them the inconvenience of writing letters. Now he wished that he at least would have known if it had been a male or female human.

Finally, he felt the grip around his neck loosen.
"I need a drink," Arslan said with a sigh, finally releasing his friend's arm from his death grip. "You want anything?"
"May I at least fasten my shoes, please?"

He wasn't sure if Arslan even had noticed what he was saying. Timothy barely recognized his friend, who usually was too lazy to bring his own schoolbooks to class. "Buddy, are you alright?" he asked concerned, once again not sure if Arslan was paying any attention, while he finally tied his boots.

Arslan sighed, tugging at the high collar of his robes in an attempt to ease the choking feeling they gave him.

"'m fine," he said after a moment, eyes travelling over the crowd of people instead of meeting his friend's eye. "Just...really not pleased about this whole thing. We've pretty much been thrown into this event without much warning. We don't really know this school, we don't know the people. From what I've seen, there's drama going on in several places at once. It's loud and pretty crowded. I'd much prefer to stay in the camp and have my peace and quiet but my mum will have my head if I do that. So I just gotta deal with it, I guess. Sorry for dragging you along by the by. You ok? All shiny trinkets and feathers still in place?"

Arslan waited for his friend to finish tying his laces, instead throwing another glance across the ballroom. Somewhere in this crowd were the other two people of their Quartett of Terror. And somewhere, there probably was his penpal. Well, if one could really call her that. They've exchanged, what, like 2 letters in total? Then again, he should probably be grateful that he'd gotten a response for his first letter in the first place.

"There's white make-up in your hair, by the way." Aslan pointed his thumb over his shoulder. "Now I'll grab something to drink and look if there's any food that isn't deepfried in the traditional British way. Be right back. Please don't go anywhere, I'll never find you again in this mess."

With that, Arslan grabbed the hem of his dumb, sparkly robes so nobody would step on them and started weaving his way through the crowd, over to the refreshments.

Maggie taught Dale how to dance, she taught him the basics, how to move his feet, where to put his hands, and generally just how not to trip over the person he was dancing with, Maggie seemed really good at dancing, he was going to ask about, since Maggie didn’t seem like a person who would be into things like dancing, but before he could ask, she said,

"Don't worry, Dale, I'm a pro- Grayson made sure of that."

Ahh, that made a little more sense, although he had no idea who Grayson was… He really needed to catch up with Maggie and Carson, he wasn’t sure what had gone on since the last they had talked, that was all the back when the Dark Witch Society was still a thing, maybe he should invite them to sneak out with him, he was sure Maggie and Carson would appreciate having that kind of knowledge.

"It's a muggle thing, an OTP. It means, like, a power couple."

Huh, Dale had never heard of that term before, maybe it was because he had no muggle friends. Well, he would really use that term to describe him and Lark, they were just friends, after all, right? Hell if he knew any more.

"Like Ferris Bueller and Sloane."

Dale didn’t know them either… Dale tried to think of a power couple, hmm… An idea popped into Dale’s mind a smirk came onto Dale’s face, this would be a great time to tease the greatest teaser alive,

Well... I’m not sure that's how I would describe me and Lark, but... you and Carson definitely fit that criterion.

Dale said with a cocky tone, one eyebrow raised, he knew that Carson and Maggie had, well, something going on they seemed really close at summer camp, even if they came with different people, Dale knew this was a classic love story situation, maybe all the romance movies his mom showed him would pay off...

Mari had licked her lips so vigorously that they had begun to dry; it was at this moment that she realized she had no chapstick, here, and was thus left with crusty lips and an irritated expression. Wasn't Jake going to notice her? She couldn't wait around all night for him...at this rate, it was most definitely a mistake that she had broken up with Lamik. He was such a cooperative boyfriend, always willing to do her business. Jake, in contrast, was too stupid to notice her advances. How many other girls were dressed as a pumpkin here?

Mari was normally lost in her thoughts, but the music interrupted in such a way that it was giving her a headache. She couldn't think; all she could register was the screaming from the stage, but nonetheless, she did not notice the boy following behind, following her though he believed she was Jake. Mari was also quite small, but given that she had put all her efforts since the Blossom Ball to be the complete opposite of Jake, she would have been offended to know that that boy thought she was the tiny first year. Mari was dominant, and people like Jake were there to do her bidding. If they weren't so dumb.

"Hey, what the heck? You stole Jake's costume!"

Mari turned quickly, rotating an entire half-circle as though it were a dance, with ease. The nerdy-looking boy who faced her didn't seem to give a damn about her, despite the fact that he just insulted her without a second thought. She tried to follow his gaze, not giving away that she knew the location of Jake, the boy he was probably searching for.

She didn't notice the boy's gaze back on her when he spoke again: "That's not fair, how are either of you going to impress the Ilvermoney kids?"

Her chapped scowl deepened. Hopefully soon she would find a new brand of chapstick to help her with these horrifying lips. She was uncertain if it was anger or what felt like a mounting volume of the screams that some satan-worshipper called "music" infiltrating her head, or maybe it was the experiences of the last half-year peaking because here she was, at a dance again, at a dance that somehow already felt like a disaster even though she had only been there for a few minutes. The rage mounted, the pressure building. She needed to let out these feelings, somehow. She needed to...let someone else feel the pain.

Mari was a werewolf, right? Of course. She never forgot. Every month, now, she went to the shrieking shack and suffered the effects of her transformation, something she did not ask for. Normally she didn't want another to suffer with her, but with this kid taunting her, the pressure building, all she wanted was for him to feel pain too. Mari wasn't always the most intelligent, especially in situations of pressure, so in that moment, she forgot that biting a person while untransformed did nothing but perhaps give the receiver of her bite a liking for rare steaks.

So she did what a crazed, angry, pressure-filled werewolf-girl would do. Mari said no words, turned toward the perpetrator of more pain, and sunk her teeth into his shoulder.

Grisleids wasn't so lucky like the other Prefects...well...it was her turn to do the patrolling. She did love her job but today was ridiculous! SIX AREAS! She had to patrol six areas and it was almost the entire Hogwarts! But Griseldis wasn't really a type of person to complain, so she took her given task quite seriously and tried her best to patrol all these areas. By the time she finished patrolling the last area in the Gryffindor girl's dormitory, she realized it was already late for the Masquerade Ball. "Oh Merlin!? I'm going to be so late for the ball!", Griseldis immediately rushed back to her dorm room and change into her outfit for the ball.

When the Headmaster announced that there would be a Masquerade Ball and the students from Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry were going to participate there as guests as well. Her mother was thrilled when she learned that Griseldis wanted to be at the ball, and sent her a red traditional Chinese dress with long silky sleeves for her to wear for the ball. Including a lion mask that was no doubt made from her grandfather. He clearly knew how much she was proud to be a Gryffindor so he took time to craft this lion mask for her. the red and gold could represent a fiery spirit which suits her personality. She braided into two ponytails underneath the two space buns. Grisleidis was determined to join this ball and to meet new people.

Thankfully her dress wasn't too long so she could run without any complications. She wasn't only just late for the ball...she was VERY late! It had been at least two hours after she dressed up and braiding her hair. "I really hope the Masquerade Ball isn't over yet!", Griseldis said to herself while still running through the corridors. She hoped her friends will be at the ball, Abigail not so sure though but Alan did promise that he will be there. And her new friend Santario, the first-year Slytherin girl who helped her when she accidentally injured her ankle on that rainy day. She still needed to thank her properly in person. And of course, she didn't forget Nanashi and Alex who also helped her, who would have thought that he became the new Gryffindor Prefect right after the incident. She found it quite funny but at the same time, she was excited to work with him in the future.

Once Griseldis finally arrived at the ballroom, she was amazed by the sight in front of her. It was so bright when she walked through the entrance door, it almost made her want to rub her eyes to make sure this wasn't a dream. The beautiful decoration, the music, fancy food and drinks and there were already everyone in the ballroom were wearing a different kind of masks to hide their own identity. Some wear really elegant outfits and some were quite...unique. There were students laughing and enjoying their conversation, some couples dancing together, but there were also others who seemed to create a little chaos.

"Hmm...I wonder if I can find Alan or San, or maybe I might encounter captain, I'm sure he won't miss the opportunity to eat the delicious food here...", while searching for someone she knew in the crowds, Griseldis remembered this very ballroom once happened a fight before where the Ravenclaw boy Kaegen was attacked by the Slytherin girl who she was also familiar with, Erin. She didn't know what happened to him after she helped him escape the fight. She could only hope he didn't hurt too badly.

Griseldis wasn't really paying attention very well to her surroundings and accidentally bumped into an intimate table beside her, "O-oh sorry!", and without noticing an empty champagne glass fell on the carpeted floor right in front of her feet. The moment her right foot stepped on the champagne glass, the round form of the glass made her slipped instead that made her lost her balance instantly. She let out a loud surprise cry, her masked face fell flat on the ground.

That’s a very pretty name, I haven’t heard it before. Where’s it from, if you don’t mind me asking?” Serena asked Adlai. “My mom tells me that it has Hebrew roots meaning ‘god is just’ but when I looked it up in a book the meaning of it was ‘ornament.’” Adlai said not exactly proud of its meaning but finding the language it originated from very interesting.

“How about you, where does your name came from? If you don’t mind of course.” Adlai asked Serena trying to keep up the small talk they had indulged themselves in. She was never good at it but had always done her best.

Her Father had always taken her to small family reunions where distant relatives who she didn’t have the smallest memory of would speak to her as if they had known her all her life. While her mother would have nightly phone calls with her child hood friend from Kabul, Afghanistan who Adlai would occasionally talk to as well if she was able to stay up, or woke up during that time.

Her aunt Margret-Viktoria was no different. Adlai had not met her great aunt until she was eight so this alleged important family figure was no more than a stranger to her who would ask strange and prying questions during their brief encounters.

Oh no. No, no, no. Professor Olphie (who else?) just had to get involved. Thora gulped as she watched the "Kaegan situation", as she now called it (or should it be the Aurelia situation?) After all, the Slytherin had no idea who had started the whole situation. Thora's stared at the debacle as if frozen to the spot, unable to tear her eyes away. This was like the Blossomball all over again.

Thora couldn't help but smirk slightly as some Gryffindor first year tried to stop the situation with some "magical potions", only to be pushed aside. Seriously? He hadn't seen the damage Kaegan--or any of the people there, for that matter--could cause. He was probably trying to be the brave Gryffindor that saved everyone or whatever. Someone suddenly cast Fumos--the only thing that brought Thora to her senses after telling Bridget to run. The brunette hacked as her eyes streamed. She turned to sprint as fast as her boots would let her as she heard a voice. Spinning around, she saw a flash of blue hair. What was her name? Elena? Hopefully she could take care of the situation, as she seemed to have a fair amount of authority about her despite not being a prefect.

Pounding of feet next to her told her Bridget had run, thankfully, and Thora spun on her heel and took off, swerving around several "couples" on the dance floor. Seriously? There were way too many older kids dancing on the floor that really needed to notice the situation happening mere feet away from them. Following Bridget's suggestion of getting drinks, which she had faintly heard through her mesmerized state, she took a quick left and beelined for the table with cups. A strange liquid settled at the bottom of the cup, and Thora took a tiny sip out of one, hoping it wasn't spiked with poison or some potion. A smile finally spread over her face as she recognized her mother's fresh-pressed apple cider, a taste she had thought she would never taste again when she left home. Obviously, magic. Turning to Bridget, Thora gave her a quick tap on the shoulder. "Mine's apple cider. What's yours?" Although she was a Muggle-born and new to the wizarding world only the previous year, Thora was smart enough to recognize this drink was magic. Maybe Bridget's would be something different.

Karilyna hovered around awkwardly, out of place in the large ballroom as she waited for Phyllis to suggest something. To her dismay, Phyllis' head whirled towards the mess she had referred to and bolted. Towards the situation. Great. Astrid turned towards Karilyna, obviously wondering what to do as the two girls eyed Phyllis, now running full speed to the scene of the problem. "Um, I don't know what she's doing, but I'm gonna follow her to make sure she doesn't die or something. Feel free to stay here, though. I have no idea what's going to happen." With that, Karilyna gripped her cherry wand and began weaving through the building number of people, following Phyllis on what she hoped was a mission to help, not to get hurt.

Fortunately, Karilyna had worn combat boots. They certainly helped her flight. Unfortunately, she ran straight into smoke. Spinning around, she cowered slightly as she saw looming figures on all sides. Where was she? Groping in a direction, she kept running. Thankfully, she was now out of the smoke and could see somewhat. She was now next to a girl with blue hair. Karilyna was faintly sure she had seen the British student in the halls sometime, but didn't know her.

"Um, hi. I'm Karilyna. I'm just wondering what's going on here," Karilyna said as confidently as she could, gesturing to the weird short boy who was now being clutched by a brown-haired adult. Hopefully this girl wouldn't be the type to stereotype Americans as rude, as she had heard way too many of those rumors, lately. But if she did... She looked behind her, and Phyllis wasn't there. Hmmmm. Hopefully her comrade would be there soon. After all, although she had no problem helping out, she wasn't here to die.

Josephine had been keeping to herself pretty much her entire time at Hogwarts. She'd been biding her time. Observing the people around her, forming mental indexes of them for the future- and right now was the biggest chance she'd gotten to add to that index yet. A ball where nearly the whole school was going to be attending. Everyone trying to put on their best faces, impress the people they liked (Which was still a completely absurd topic to her. People having feelings for other people? Freakish.), and most importantly, letting their guards down.

As much as Jo may have hated getting dressed up, this was one of the things that her mother would skin her alive if she didn't do. She'd been sent to school with a dress that her mother hand made in anticipation for the masquerade ball.

"First impressions are everything, Josephine."

Her mothers voice rang clear as day in Josie's head, making her wrinkle her nose a bit. The dress was a pale green color with (beautiful, but unappreciated by herself) golden embroidery on the top, and an elegant flowing skirt that trailed behind her on the floor as she walked.

Image posted by the member

In other words, it was a fancy dress that Josephine found no joy in wearing. It was entirely too grown-up feeling for her liking. The embroidery made the inside of her arms itchy and the floweyness of the skirt made her feel exposed and bare. Her one saving grace were the leather boots she was wearing under the dress, where her wand was tucked in. She never went anywhere without it. The mask she was wearing was her mothers at one point. It's golden color seemed to match the embroidery on her dress perfectly. However, Josephine took a bit of creative freedom with her mask, hot glueing rhinestones to some parts of it. Her hair was pinned out of her face, but still flowed long and wavy down her back. She'd actually taken the time to try and make sure it wasn't a mess before leaving the girls dormitories.

But being a first year, she found the other heads in the room predominantly towered over her own. She was looking up to most the people around her, holding her skirt to try and keep it from getting stepped on. Josephine huffed, making her way through the crowd, as if looking for someone to talk to. Perhaps she was tired of keeping to herself. She wanted to have some sort of social interaction. At least tonight she did.

It was Astrid's voice that brought Phyllis back to reasoning. What had she been thinking? Well, she hadn't, so that explained a few things. The other girl was right, of course. What was she going to do, Lumos people? Like that would do anything.

But still, why was she so... so scared? Why was her fight-or-flight setting on? And then she noticed the shadow-ish things creeping across the ground. Dhampirs. She was pretty sure that was the cause of her terror. They could cause that sort of thing, right? Their 'terrible presence' or whatever. Phyllis had never actually seen a Dhampir, although her mother had made sure she knew who the 'beasts' were, going off on one of her infamous rants about blood purity and all that. As the young girl had made a habit of thinking the opposite of whatever her mother did, she didn't have any contempt for the half-breeds; in fact, she was quite fascinated by them.

Anyways, it was a good thing she hadn't tried to interfere. Several older students and professors were soon on the scene and they seemed to have the whole fiasco more or less under control. Also, she really didn't know what was going on, so it wasn't like she would've been able to help fix anything.

Phyllis had just convinced herself that she had no reason whatsoever to be scared when the smoke came. Thick tendrils of the stuff descended into the area, obscuring her vision and making everything darker. Not pitch black, but still dark. And besides, who cared about how much light there was when one couldn't see anything? Again, panic rose up in her chest. Why? Simple. She was scared of being in the dark alone. She couldn't see past her own wand, which she'd instinctively raised again.

"Astrid..." the girl called, her voice sounding annoyingly quite small. But this was stupid. Phyllis scolded herself for losing it so easily. Astrid probably hadn't even moved. And chances were that Karilyna had followed them and was only a few feet away.

"Astrid? Karilyna? Are you guys there?" she tried again, this time without the unnecessary weakness in her tone. Her fear was quite irrational, at least until something jumped out of the smoke and tried to skewer her. No, she was fine. She just had to find her friends, hold off from having a completely unmerited emotional breakdown, and wait for the smoke to leave. Everything would be OK. Fingers crossed.

Being on time was not Maya's forte. Just like her family, if the call-time was for 6:30pm, they would arrive exactly one hour later. Why? If you came too early, you'll have to help set up. If you come on time, you waste your time figuring out what to do and spend more time than intended at an event. Arriving late, and leaving when you want was the way Maya was taught, and it in turn, it was always looked at as a grand entrance-- at least to her.

Halloween. It was the time of year where you have the chance to not be yourself. It was the time of year where you can truly hide yourself or who you really are from others. You can act like your other half; your inner being. In truth, Maya had two days were like this. The first is the pagan holiday of Halloween, and the second is the Jewish day, Purim. A day where you also dress up hiding your true identity. To know that there was twice a year she can take off her shell for a few hours is a blessing.

Now, taking off her colors was not the case. She can choose whomever she wants to be, but her color was never to change. Just like her cloak, her dress was of a deep crimson red. A ballgown with a sweetheart neckline hugged her upper body, sharing with the world her small waist. The bottom of the dress drapes out, keeping her legs and more to the imagination just like her cloak. For the first time in a very long time, her shoulders, chest and arms were free. Her tanned skin feeling the warm air that blew within the castle. It was refreshing and yet, she felt naked. She knew, however, that it was only for a few hours. After that, she would be back to hiding herself in her usual outfit.

The dress, hugging her body, Maya felt the ruffles that began at the bottom of her waist. Ruffles were not her style, but to keep her clothing appropriate, this was the best she could do. She would, rather, have worn a mermaid sweetheart and low-cut in the back dress. A dress that really made her feel free. But alas, it would not have been the best choice with a bunch of kids around. Perhaps if she had a night out, then it would be on her mind to wear.

Nevertheless, it was time for Maya to make an appearance. One that would only last for a couple hours, if not, less. Her black, laced four inch pumps, made her feel powerful. As if four inches allowed her to see the world around her and make her decisions stronger. The last thing other than jewelry was her mask.

If her shoes made her feel powerful, then her mask made Maya feel invincible. She was not all about the laced and sexy mask that others would choose. She was into the most intimidating and fearless mask. One that really showed others who she was on the inside: a monster. Placing it on her face, she hid herself; the parts that made her a human being. Her eyes shadowed in black and her lips, a crimson red, she was ready.

Walking into the ballroom, she saw everyone mingling and dancing. All students were close to one another, some began to show their emotions while others were unaware of their surroundings. As for her colleagues, they were just there. Feeling her inner time clock, she knew her couple hours at the event started now. Walking in further, she saw one of her colleagues with horns of their own. It was Solomon Lear, the man that she had obviously expected to see. Little did she know that they shared the same monstrous shell. Gracefully, she made her entrance to ensure that she walked past him. When she was steps away from him, she looked at him, giving eye contact, and gave him a small, sexy smirk, while walking past; her dress ever so lightly caressed him as she walked away.

Her destination: Nora Jenson. She was someone that Maya respected in comparison to most colleagues. Their relationship had grown since last year during Chanukah when they got to know each other playing the infamous dreidel game. It was by far inspiring to learn about another who had the same perspectives as her. Walking up to the woman, she gave her a small, closed smile. "Jenson," she greeted, her arms crossed against her chest. "How has this event been treating you?" she asked, not acknowledging if there were any other colleagues around.
