Around 9 o'clock on a Saturday morning, students are expected to sleep late, stuff themselves during breakfast and enjoy their free time with their friends. Maybe rush to get some homework done and spend the rest of the day inside their cozy common rooms, especially in an extra cold morning like that.

It's cold and humid outside. The few visible clouds are so gray, no one even dares to step outside, afraid of the possibility of a storm. There isn't much activity in the hallways, almost as if all the students had disappeared. So, as expected, the Library is supposed to be very empty.

But it isn't.

Hiding from others that aren't even there, behind one of the many shelves, among the dustiest and oldest books possible, sitting on the floor, with a french book open on his laps, is Virgil Lee, looking like he's about to fall sick. His skin is milky pale and there are big dark circles under his eyes. The tip of his nose is red, and he rubs his hands together, trying to keep them warm.

The image of the Slytherin's firepit burns in his mind, tempting him to get up and head back there, but Virge ignores it because he's sure that the common room is crowded with his Housemates. As much as he's trying to interact and make friends, he's not very fond of crowded places... — especially if it's crowded with strangers.

With that being said, Virgil decided to fight off the cold by pretending it isn't affecting him in the slightest. His eyes run across the words, as he tries his hardest to pronounce every word perfectly — he's stuck in chapter one for over a solid hour!

It's a children's novel by a French muggle writer, whose name he couldn't pronounce properly, obviously, but knows translates to 'The Little Prince'. He, who cannot hold a conversation in French and can only perfectly say the basics "My name is Virgil, I'm eleven", "I can't speak French very well" and "I'm fine, thank you. How are you?", understand almost everything.

Virgil understands most of the things in French. After all, his favorite aunt Serena lives in France and would always speak to him in French, but he... He just couldn't pronounce anything correctly. The words just sound so wrong when coming out of his mouth... And the grammar just — it doesn't click. He doesn't get it. At all! There are three other languages in his brain, give him a break! Forming a sentence, without any knowledge on basic grammar structure or how the words are supposed to be said, isn't exactly a good combination.

But, the thing is: Virgil actually decided to study some Transfiguration, but got so confused and frustrated that he gave up completely, grabbing the book his cousin Sarah had given him as a birthday gift when she learned he was trying to learn French on his own.

And, look, he's trying, but he can't even get past the first page. Virgil sighs, starting all over, knowing he wouldn't master it anytime soon. He reads it out loud, in hopes that, maybe, magic will help him.

"Lorsque j’avais six..." He hesistates, knowing he's pronouncing everything wrong, "Ans j’ai vu, une fois, une magnifique image..." Virgil frowns. "Why is this so hard?"

I apologise now I can't write that much.

Chezem was walking through the halls of Hogwarts to try and get accustomed to where everything was since he would be living there nearly the entire year long for the next seven years of his life. It was a nice place, fit his idea of perfect just fine with its medieval architecture and everything. He especially loved how one wall of the common room was entirely glass and looked underwater in the lake, and he enjoyed conversing with the merpeople through sign language.

The blonde eleven-year-old walked into the library and looked around when he heard someone talking to themselves...in French? More like trying to, it sounded. He walked over, following the sound before peeking out around the corner to see a kid with a French children's book on his lap. The boy immediately came to the conclusion that this kid was trying to teach himself French and decided to see if maybe he could help since he himself was French and spoke it fluently.

"Pardon me, but the pronunciation you're looking for is 'ahn jay voo, oonuh fwah, oonuh magneefeek eemaj.'" Chezem said, focusing more on pronouncing it properly than spelling it correctly in his head. "I could help you with that if you like. Do you at least understand what it's saying since you seem to be trying to figure out how to say it properly?" He questioned afterwards.

His soul almost leaves his body through his mouth with the boy's sudden apparition. Feeling his cheeks burn with embarrassment, Virgil looks at the kid — pale skin and blue eyes, matching perfectly with his blonde hair. Adorable, he thinks to himself, knowing he looked even more like an ogre compared to a cute boy like that other Slytherin, before shaking his thoughts away, paying attention to what the first year's saying.

"Do you at least understand what it's saying since you seem to be trying to figure out how to say it properly?" The blonde boy asks, but not in a mocking tone, or so Virgil supposes.

It still stings anyways — to have been caught by someone who said what he was trying to say so effortlessly. (He's always been a little proud, particularly when it came to learning. Both of his parents are great wizards, after all, so it only makes sense that he's one too! Right?)

"Once when I was six years old I saw a magnificent picture," says Virgil a little defiantly, with an urge to cross his arms and look at the kid and childishly point out: Ha! See, I'm not completely stupid! But he doesn't do that. Instead, he looks down at the book one more time and asks, "... Right? Is that correct?"

He sounds a little pathetic (like always, his brain tells him but Virgil ignores it), so he adds, playing with the pages of 'The Little Prince', "I-I understand most of what I read. My pronunciation sucks, though..."

Still getting used to this site, and didn't remember to press notify of new messages so I waited all yesterday for you to respond before remembering this morning.

Chezem grimaced as he apparently must have scared the boy and apologised for doing so. "I am so sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. Or offend you in any way, what I meant was that a lot of people try to pronounce stuff without knowing what they are trying to pronounce." He said, smiling small.

"Yes, that is what it says, and your enunciation isn't half bad, you just need to try getting it to roll off the tongue a little bit more." His own voice had a hint of a French accent so that explained why he knew how to say it properly. He walked over and sat beside the kid.  "My name is Chezem Balthazar. What's yours?"

Chezem studied the kid in front of him, taking note of his brown hair and eyes, assuming he was from Korea what with his features, but he wasn't going to say anything. Better to not risk being wrong and accidentally offending him. Chezem was a lot of things but rude was not one of them.

He studied the book that the kid was looking at and vaguely remembered his mother reading it to him as a bedtime story before they moved from France to England. That had been a shock and he didn't quite remember everything from that time. Most people didn't start remembering until they were nine years old.

"Oh... Thanks, I, it's just that — I don't have anyone to practice with, so, yeah," he mumbles embarrassingly, voice soft since the boy probably realized he got a bit offended by his question — pride clearly wounded. He plays with the cover of The Little Prince, ignoring the way his cheeks burn a little as the first year, Chezem, studies his features.

Giving him another quick glance, Virge notes that the kid's now sitting next to him, and up close, he looks like one of those cute porcelain dolls. "I'm Virgil, by the way..." He tries to sound a little more confident, to no avail, of course. The thing is: he can never be smooth and charismatic, he's a shy mess all the time. "Virgil Lee. Nice to meet you..."

Chezem's pronunciation is perfect, so much better than his aunt's — the boy's probably French, or lived there for a certain period. Hm, Virgil thinks to himself, wondering if he was like him — with someone teaching him a second language, like how he learned Korean without never actually going there.

As always, he tries to break that silence that hasn't even settled yet, asking, looking around, pretending he doesn't care, but, deep down, Virgil wants to know. "Uh, are you French? How come you know french so well?"

Chezem listened to him talking about not having anyone to practice learning French with and then introduced himself. "A pleasure to meet you, Virgil." He said with a bright smile. "To answer your question, yes, I am French. I was born in Paris and grew up there until I was about five or five and a half because my parents wanted to move here to be closer to family. A bit ridiculous since there are no living relatives here." He said as he looked over the book. "The trick to learning the language, or at least how to pronounce it, is to say it quickly and let it roll off the tongue. So instead of trying to say each sound, say the entire word."

His mind went back to the day he had been forced to learn English. It hadn't been easy.

A younger Chezem sat at the kitchen table in his parents home in France, gazing at the Eiffel Tower outside the window. A hand waved in front if his face and he looked over to see his mother looking at him expectantly. "Chezem, qu'est-ce que 'je vois la tour Eiffel' en anglais?" She asked. Chezem sighed as he turned and answered her. "I see the Tower Eiffel." His mother shook her head. "Eiffel Tower."

"I'll try to keep that in mind..." Virgil directs him a quick smile, playing with his hair with his left hand as he opens his book again, touching the pages with his fingertips. His anxiety tells him that Chezem knows that's a children's book and that he looks a little stupid, which he ignores entirely, shrugging, "Even though I'm sure I'll forget. My memory isn't that great..."

Virgil's never been to France, even though his aunt Naomi always invited him to spend his vacations or even live there with her. His mother Blair never allowed him to go, as his aunt can be a little... Crazy. Well, that's how both his parents would describe her, anyways. Virgil likes the word "energetic".

Naomi Armitage is this dark-haired witch in her early forties, but the way she plays around, always cracking jokes makes it seem she's around twenty. She's a great witch — kind of a hipster — and moved because of a job opportunity to join the Ministry of Magical Affairs of France — how cool is that?

She doesn't have any kids and never got married, so she directs all of her love and affection towards her nieces and nephews — not hiding from anyone that he is her favorite nephew. He always wanted to visit her for a few days, or perhaps, even stay for a month or so, but Mum would probably have a heart attack if he even dared to mention it, being so worried about his safety and all that. Well, he can't blame her for that, Naomi did break his wrist on an accident with a broom when he was nine, so, yeah, he could see where Blair was coming from.

It'd still be nice, though.

"How's France like?" Virgil asks, a little starry-eyed, imagining exploring the streets and watching the Eiffel Tower while his aunt told him about her job and the many adventures she'd had.

"France is...Well, it's amazing. In the summer, when it's not too hot, you can practically sit in the park and gaze up at the Eiffel Tower for ages. It is truly an amazing image." Chezem said. His mind flashed back to Paris in the winter, how it was all decorated so amazingly for Christmas and then how the leaves fell from the tree in the autumn. A magnificent sight that bewitched everyone who went there. As he remembered, he described everything to Virgil.

"There is a bakery dead centre of the city that sells the most amazing bread and pastries. They have all kinds of flavours of macaroons and the most delicious cookies. The people are friendly and that isn't even talking about wizarding Paris. Adagio Lane is filled with all of these little shops. If I had not moved here, I would have gone to Beauxbatons and gotten my books from Tom Dupain's Books and Things. I take that back, we got my books from there anyway."

Chezem smiled. "We return every summer because we all miss it. We were there when my Hogwarts letter arrived and so we got nearly all of my books there. Of course, we had to get some of them from Diagon Alley, but we did find some of them in Adagio Lane." The blonde said as his smile grew before disappearing and he blushed a bit, looking away.

"I am so sorry, I started rambling, again, didn't I?" He questioned, laughing nervously.  "Sometimes I can get a tad bit carried away and can not help myself." He shrugged shyly and smiled bashfully, embarrassed.

He watches Chezem as the boy goes on his ramble about Paris, imagining himself being able to do all of those things with his aunt and parents. They'd have a good time, Virge's sure, but he doubt his father would ever leave his dragons to be able to relax properly. Mihyung's in need of a break. He has been for a very long time, as a matter of fact.

The dragons need a lot of attention, Virge. Especially now that we have a new baby. I need to be there for them, you know that. Maybe another time, alright? Father used to write back to him whenever he suggested they could spend the summer vacations together doing whatever. He accepted it, but well, a boy could dream, right?

Virgil smiles softly when Chezem embarrassingly stops talking, laughing nervously, "Sometimes I can get a tad bit carried away and can not help myself."

"Oh, it's fine! Don't worry about it!" says Virgil shaking his head and shoulders too, in a dismissive manner. "France seems great. Maybe someday I'll be able to go there with the rest of my family. Who knows?"

He looks down, a little sad because he's sure that he'd have to wait a long time for his dream to come true.

The blonde Slytherin watched as Virgil seemed to become a bit disheartened and he quickly apologised for whatever it is that he had done to cause his demeanour to change. "I suppose thats true. So, if I am to help you, I need to know a few things. First and foremost, how have you been learning French beforehand? Like what method were you using?" He asked as he looked at him observingly.

Chezem had known a lot of people who read in French to learn it, studied books, listened to music, and others who had simply hired a half-wit tutor to teach them the language. In order for him to help Virgil he needed to know how he had done it so far so that he could help him learn in a way he learned best verses anyone else method.

He took another look at the book he was reading and grabbed it gingerly after looking at the other boy for permission. "This is a pretty old book, they actually don't really print these anymore. May I ask where you got it from? It's a very interesting find. Especially considering the story is so old. Most of the newer ones involve Princess in disguise and daring swordfights despite being in France."

Feel free to nudge me if I take longer than a day to respond
