The Masquerade Ball
Interacting with @Eugenia De la Cruz and @Catriona StaverlyEugenia. It was a lovely name, one Asteria had never heard, a name of rolling curves. The girl kept smiling at her as they talked, and while Asteria didn't shy away from the attention, it set her on edge almost, like there was a joke that she didn't quite get. If anything, the feeling made her want to impress the girl, and so, going against what she had decided earlier that night, she told the truth about her identity. "Asteria," she mumbled, "My name's Asteria."
To confess was a strange feeling, an act of giving up her shred of secrecy, but secrets hurt. That was something she knew well, and while the idea of being a secretive figure had a certain appeal, she couldn't excuse the fact that it could well and easily turn to something much more sour. The knife turning in the bowels of the hours, that bitter blade of anxiety, would not let her rest easy.
And then the girl - Eugenia - asked about magic. Asteria's mouth went dry, thinking on the last time someone had asked her this. It had not gone well. But she was used now to the pokes and prods, the questions meant without harm, and for once, her filter won out. "No," she replied, her hands shaking slightly, clenching her cup slightly more than she ought to, "I didn't know until a few months ago." She meant to continue, meant to ask the girl "And you?" but the question never had the time to leave her mouth.
Catriona's voice broke through the calm of the conversation. Oh, she's asking after me, Asteria realized after a few moments. Her brain had latched onto the tremble in the other girl's voice, the note of concern that lingered there like an unwanted visitor. She had become overtaken with concern, not registering the true contents of the question, instead worrying over the state of the other girl, filled with disdain for whatever had made Catriona sound so desperate. Turning, she took in the other girl for the first time that night. Oh sure, she had seen Catriona's dress the night before, but there was a difference between laughing at a sleepover and seeing it glimmer in the full grandeur of the ballroom. Her eyes lingered on the circlet of roses that rested on the other girl's head and the way that they complimented her perfectly.
"Cat!" she squealed, grabbing the other girl into a hug, "You look- you look, wow!" For a second time that night, she was thankful for a mask concealing the flush that spread across her cheeks. Pulling back from Catriona, she noticed the odd look on her face, further cementing her concerns. "And yes- yes, I would love to dance." This was nice. This was what friends did, right?
She turned back to Eugenia, rubbing the side of her neck idly. "This is uh- This is my friend that I was waiting for. It was really lovely to meet you. I'd- I'd like to talk again?" With that, she placed her glass on the table, firmly ignoring the way her hands still shook, and held out the other to Catriona, inviting her to dance.
"Hey uh-" she hoped that Catriona didn't realize how much her palms were sweating, "are you okay?" That fluttering in her stomach was there again, alien and uncanny. She wished that it would fly away and take her with it at that moment. "Shoot- sorry, I'm just not good at this whole words, emotions thing, most of the time. But if you need to talk I can listen, yeah?" Internally, she winced at the slight tremor that had entered her voice, the hesitation over boundaries. They were still so new as acquaintances, but she found herself wanting to make sure that the other girl was happy and content in this moment.

The pair of Slytherins were equally on-edge for this whole thing. Thora kept glancing around the room and fidgeting with her mask, her dress. But if their facial expressions said anything, it was that they'd identified the one person in a room of strangers that they trusted.
While Thora silently regarded the other people in the ballroom, Bridget surveyed the decorations. The room was quite lovely--this sort of thing would've taken many hands to prepare in the Muggle world, but here with magic, perhaps it had been a far simpler affair. Bouquets of flowers adorned every corner of the room--marigolds, roses, sunflowers, and other such flora in shades of red, orange, and yellow. The shades of fire. Bridget shuddered at the thought. Dueling had been quite an experience, so she knew the effects of fire perhaps a bit too well. However, there were no candles to start such an inferno, although everyone in their second year or above was guaranteed the ability to torch something at a moment's notice.
"Er, I suppose we could get drinks, if you'd like…" Bridget trailed off. From the rumors she'd heard of the last ball, consuming anything didn't sound like the brightest idea. Suddenly, Thora jumped up. Bridget saw what she saw and instantly knew that getting out of the proximity would be a very good idea. Without another word, Bridget half-sprinted to where Thora had pointed--anything to get away from the dangerous situation at hand.Role-playing as dNPC Phylicia Stanwood || Interacting with @Thora Larkston (Karilyna Kawahara), @Teiki Laurent (Astrid Kovac), and the whole Kaegan-Aurelia situation || Open to Interactions!
Oh, okay, that's cool," Phyllis remarked when Astrid said her costume was a Little Red Riding Hood thing, of course having no idea who this kid running around with a hood was supposed to be. She really didn't care though, so she assumed an air of understanding just so they could abandon the topic.
The redhead followed Astrid over to the snack bar, grabbing herself a few cookies and a cup of the… what was the stuff? One sip revealed it to taste like pumpkin juice, her favorite drink in the history of the world. Except for maybe water because she happened to value her life. She'd just been about to sit down when a chill ran through her. She very nearly dropped the cup at the sudden unexpected terror. What in the world? Then Karilyna spoke up, and her normally quite confident voice had a quiver to it. The first year had no clue, but following the other girl's gaze she saw the scene.
She wasn’t sure what was happening as she hadn't seen the whole thing, but some boy around her age was yelling at someone, an older girl. Something about her being a sort of monster or other. Behind the ranting boy was another, older boy who was scarily pale. Just then, several more people showed up, among them a Professor. What was going on?
"I have no idea…" she muttered in response. And then the pale boy attacked the Professor, lunged at his side. Without stopping to consider how remarkably stupid such an action would be, Phyllis was running towards the action, towards the danger. She stopped just to the side of the action-ring, whipping her wand out. Heck, she only knew like two spells, but this was bad, and her heart was beating much too fast, and all she knew was she had to do something to stop this.

Carson weaved through the crowd of students filling the ballroom, to preoccupied with his current "mission" to notice how beautiful it all was- or the strange, heavy metal music playing in the background. He'd immediately searched for one person when entering the room: Maggie Parker. He'd showed up in the blandest of the bland, and hadn't bothered whipping up some extravagant costume. Again, he was preoccupied.
Finally spotting Maggie and Dale dancing together, he approached the pair, smiling weakly at the two. "You mind if I steal her for a bit?" Carson asked. He felt a little sick to his stomach, and his heart was heavy in his chest. He kept sending guilty glances in Charlotte’s direction, trying his best to avoid catching her eye.
He needed, more than anything, someone to talk to, and Maggie was the perfect candidate. She was his best friend, someone he could tell anything. Sure, she might’ve been a bit preoccupied sending heart-eyes at Grayson Ackley, but Carson didn’t have any more room for guilt at this point.
He grabbed Maggie's hand, dragging her over to one of the empty tables. He was nervous, sure, because he wasn't exactly sure what Maggie's reaction would be when he told her that he just broke up with her cousin.

The Masquerade Ball
Interacting in the chaos with @Duna Nixis, mentioning @Aurelia Notrésvace, trying to stay alive, attempting to keep my wits about me, and trying to get the attention of @Kaegen Deathmote, @Elena Jones, @Alaric Equinox & @Eris Fawley without dying.
If Hell in a handbasket had been animated, this is exactly what it would be like. By the time Piérre had turned to look at Deathmote, Piérre could see the wildness in the boy’s eyes increasing from the blood that had once been nearby. The pupils changed from shining onyx to rippling obsidian, hardening and gaining sparks of madness within, the fear, chilling voice and quiet demeanor immediately snapping in two as shadows in the room intensified with a terrifying extreme. This time, Piérre collapsed to his hands and knees in an attempt to dampen the fear and terror which surrounded him on all sides. His heart beat fast and frightened and he had to shake his head to clout his senses.
The third year girl had smoothly walked away, having healed the cut on her hand before ruffling his hair. That had been in and of itself a wrong move on her behalf, but combined with the fury Piérre felt, now stoked by fear of the situation he had been plunged into and had been unable to stop only fueled his resolve and helplessness. He had failed. He wanted to help, he wanted so badly to help the boy. He didn’t know how, but somehow he knew. He knew fear, even if it wasn’t in such an intensity of the shadows which now animated and flickered across the room. Similar shadows would dance in Piérre’s head in the middle of the night, ritualistically chanting and cursing him with unknown magic, especially since Romeo, his fleeting light, had vanished.
Holding back a choked sob, Piérre glanced up just in time to see Deathmote move with unearthly agility, leaping to the side, away from Piérre just as the darkness and the aura around him settled with a chilling vengeance. Piérre stared into those eyes, the eye of Vampire decent. Unhinged, dangerous, and deadly. Yet... provoked. Something in them wasn’t genuine. While the boy did not wear a masque, Piérre could see one over his features. Perhaps it was years of practice in finding the good in everyone and everything, or perhaps it was his mortal will to find something, anything good in the situation, but Piérre refused to believe that Deathmote had jumped from him unintentionally. Was he trying to protect the tenacious first year?
Piérre had no time to ask, for with another shift of the shadows, Deathmote lunged, his sights set on Mister Alec. Piérre threw out a hand, his wand extended even though he could do nothing with it, and he cast a desperate spell. “Verdemillious!”
Nothing came from the tip of the wand, its only response being a small puff of smoke before sparking out. There was nothing he could do as the child and adult Dhampires collided, their battle only just beginning.
Piérre felt his head grow heavy as his head began to pound with a nausea induced headache. There was mad laughter within, somewhere, somewhere attached to his very being, yet estranged. He didn’t want to touch it, he didn’t want to explore it. He had to help the Dhampire boy, who was being framed by the godforsaken third year girl who had cut her palm.
With a yelp, Piérre stood suddenly, waving on his feet and blinking rapidly as he attempted to make better of the situation.
He wanted to track down that godforsaken third year. She incited the riot, and now she would taste its bitter medicine. Eye for eye, tooth for tooth. But he knew, deep in his heart that there was nothing he, a puny first year could do against a seasoned third year. No. He would stay behind. Perhaps he could resolve this conflict yet, no matter how useless he seems on the outside.
Pierre turned to Duna, who had been silent throughout the encounter. Piérre didn’t know if she was okay or not, but he certainly didn’t want her to injured because of him.
”Duna!” He said, holding her shoulders carefully. ”Get out of here!” He snatched her wrist and began to tug her though the fight, and if she wanted to pull away, Piérre was so shaken that he would have no choice but to release her.
If she chose to follow, however, she would be pulled just barely out of the vicinity of the confrontation and Piérre would release her. He would urge her to leave the ballroom, even though the choice was completely up to her.
After the interaction with Duna, Piérre would plunge right back into the fray once again, seeking out the Dhampire boy and Professor. He didn’t care if he was bit or clawed. He was just as capable of holding his own, even without strength or brawn.
Deathmote’s shadows, combined with the aura of Mister Alec was almost crippling to Piérre. He saw things in the darkness created of both his own mind and of the induced mania of the auras. He was trapped, claustrophobic, and alone, even though the actions of people whirled all around him. He had to do something. He had to do something to negate the screams and the laughter in his own head.
The world spun like a top as Piérre stared blankly up at the chandelier, glittering with pristine beauty overhead. The light reflected by the dripping crystals looked like faint strands of midnight mist, as on the night he had first met Koko Riddle on complete accident. The night he had looked up at the stars without a care in the world, wishing and praying for a change in his saddened life.
Ask, and he had received. It was a change. It was an evil change. But yet, in the midst of confusion and strife, there was a bitter happiness to it. Piérre felt he belonged here. The fear fueled him, incited him to do feats previously unimaginable to himself.
Piérre was suddenly struck with a brilliant idea.
An idea that could get him killed, and yet, stood the best chance of succeeding.
Slipping through the confusion, Piérre finally found the table of drinks, and began to take note of their properties. He quickly used his five senses to analyze them again. Scent: that of his kiddie cocktail wine mix. Taste: Kiddie cocktail again. Touch: Still possessed carbonated bubbles, but according to his sight, the liquid had no fizz. It also had no color, unlike his favorite drink. Hearing was not much use, for the pounding of his heart and the loud thoughts in his head drowned everything out. Still, Piérre had one more theory.
’I just want a glass of water.’
Drink to the night.
It was water.
Mind racing, Piérre snatched a couple of cups. He didn’t know what kind of potion was in these cups, but he had heard they had been brewed or at least set out by Solomon Lear. Maybe, just maybe, these potions had the ability to become whatever the drinker wanted, and in the case of adults with alcoholic beverages, for he had not seen anyone get tipsy yet, negated ill effects of the drink.
Ergo, the Dhampires. If they wanted blood, they would smell and taste blood in these beverages and be attracted by it, but would not suffer the desire to want more. It was a brilliant plan, a deduction of logic, and a thought Piérre was quite proud of as he made his way to where he had last seen Deathmote and Mister Alec.
It was either a brilliant plan, or it was his famous last words.
By the time he finally managed to dismiss the dark forms and confront the two Dhampires again, he found that another girl was currently hugging to the young boy, and another girl had just said something about not daring to intervene with another professor otherwise the perpetrator would gain a shoeful of frogspawn. She also told him to clear a way, BTW, the wrong Pierre was mentioned, which is why I had to edit, sorry! which Piérre nodded in agreement to before remembering the drinks in his hands. He extended them, showing them to the girls as he watched the fight warily.
”The potions!” He called to the girls and the Dhampires. ”They taste and smell like anything you want them to be, but don’t have any negative properties! These’ll taste like blood without inducting mania!”
It was either complete madness, or it just may work. And if it didn’t, Piérre would have to trust his fast legs and fancy footwork to avoid being attacked or hurt.
Another Long Post. Actions:
Duna: Grabs her and tries to guide her out of the confrontation because Piérre doesn’t want to have her get hurt.
Deathmote, Equinox, Jones, and Fawley: Shouts that he has the potions (which will smell and taste like blood without causing more madness), and presents them out in the open so the Dhampires can smell it.
Piérre: Has a small mental breakdown because of the auras, fails to cast the green sparks charm, disbands the situation to get Duna out of harm’s way before returning, snatching the potions, presenting them, and then preparing to take to his heels if leaped at or attacked. In short, seeking to help Deathmote and Equinox, but may accidentally be putting himself in harm’s way in the process.Outfit:

His hope was that the Animagus might reveal themselves or do something human when accepting the drink, also because he'd never heard of cats liking Pimm's. He did hear the fat feline meow in the direction of the creepy cat girl, and heard her reply something sibilant that he didn't catch. So the cat was with her? Was it actually just her pet or her Animagus friend? Either way, the animal moved towards him when it saw the offered punch and seemed to enjoy it all right, but after lapping it up it just licked its chops and sneezed over Janus' shoes. It was a suspiciously human action but also one he had seen cats do before; somehow a cat sneezing on your shoes was cuter than a person doing so, even if there was a chance said cat was an Animagus.
While he was observing the pet though, the edges of the room suddenly seemed to grow somehow darker, more menacing. Janus looked up but the lights were all still on, and the phenomenon was in fact more like a perceived darkness than a real one. He decided to stand up to better see what was happening; that aura of threat seemed to spread out from the group of people he had so easily dismissed before. His aloof House mate was clinging ferociously to the male adult figure, probably a professor, and more people were running towards them. It would have been almost ridiculous had it not been for the atmosphere that transpired; a feeling of danger captured his entire focus and made all his nerves stand on end. It wasn't something he'd ever felt, but before he had time to analyse it the creepy cat girl turned to him.
He automatically replied with a small nod, his mind being hardwired into that response for this kind of reassurance. Whatever it was, he never told; he had learned it quickly in the muggle world. There was much more satisfaction and calm strength in not giving away secrets. Even when she drew her wand he just stared curiously as she cast "Fumos" towards the commotion. He didn't like the spell much and knew its effects all too well from his dodgeball game, so as the girl and her cat/friend slunk away he started edging backwards, out of the reach of the spreading smoke and towards the buffet. His hands finally found the table frame and he leaned against it, observing the grey mass advance from his safe corner. He didn't know why the other student had cast the spell, but he could see it would only create more confusion.

The one next to Rosie introduced herself, and it was at that point that he finally recognized her. When he realized who she was he couldn't help but blush a little. She knew what he said and rightfully so probably had the wrong idea. Which was confirmed when she started bidding them a formal adieu. "'ey 'ey you dahn't need to leave. Please stay. De mahre de merrier you know? 'ow abooeht we all go to de snack table and grab sahme right groehb?" He offered to her.
Quinn was of course still blushing but luckily the mask covered much of it. He looked down at the two. The redhead was very glad Rosie invited him. He always had so much fun with her. But he also didn't want to be the one to keep her from her friends because of well...his antics. Why he said and did it...well he wasn't sure truthfully because it just kind of came and he did it. Maybe there was a reason, maybe there wasn't but hey its life right?
Quinn looked around and recognized more then just a few of his friends he made over the years. Like Santario who wasn't too far from them from what he could tell. She was interacting with an interesting group and...and were there first years kissings!? What the...no nope. Ew. no. He moved on until his eyes laid down upon possibly Reid and then the always distinctive Eris Fawley. A...very interesting student to say the least. He still couldn't find that confounded Erin Ryan and that was starting to worry him. However before his thoughts and focused observation he remembered he had two people present before him.
"Joehst glad ya invited me Rahsie. An dahn't wahrry I wahn't croehsh yooehr bahnes in frahnt o' a crowd dis time arooehnd." He was about to continue literally kneeling down so he wouldn't have to project. That was when a new person entered their sphere. "Ahh 'ey you're de girl frahm last time. Dat roehbbesh fight I dink. Oehm yooehr name is...oehm...shite...right! maressa i dink was yooehr name? Yeah feel free to join oehs. We were gahnna 'ead to de snack table. Ploehs 'avin a new persahn join oehs'll be foehn!" Words yet again vomited out of his mouth, accent thick as molasses on a cold winters night.

So wizards knew about fairy tales? She had thought it was a muggle thing, but she mentally shrugged. It didn't matter.
She had only been able to start munching on a cookie, before the atmosphere changed suddenly. The ball seemed to almost grow darker. Masks grew to be a lot more ominous.
Everyone(well, almost everyone) was more watching this- this situation. A girl accusing a boy, the boy lunging at a professor, everyone seemingly recognizing the boy and joining the sides. Either accusing the girl of being a drama queen, or saying that the boy was just going to cause more problems. Astrid had an odd fascination with this. Perhaps uncalled for in this sort of event, but she couldn't shake it. It was fantasy to her (muggle) understanding. Fit with a plot and everything.
While Karilyna called attention to the situation, Phyllis ran over, extending her wand. But she's a first year? She also doubted that Phyllis understood the situation any more than herself, which was a very minimal observation.
Astrid glanced at Karilyna, unsure what to do. She didn't even understand this situation. Astrid jogged over to Phyllis.
"Phyllis, we don't even know what's going on. Maybe we should figure that out first." She said it softly, looking a bit apologetic, hoping it might calm both of them down, and that no one else should really hear it. Astrid knew a bit when it came to mediating, but she had no idea how well she would actually be able to help. She also didn't really know if this would even be a good situation to mediate.
A smokescreen circled around the group, starting to get in the way of everyone. The auras from people collided, causing Astrid to be entirely unsure of humans, or really any race. It was all a confusing mess, but she was sure it was going to get worse.
Because, you know, smoke and chaos work so well together.

The joy of destroying a life to further his own was an odd feeling. It was somehow sad, laced with tragedy that Kaegen didn't truly understand. But at it's core the feeling was triumphant. Angry victory, but sweet victory nonetheless. Taking life had been part of the little boy's life for as long as he could remember. If he was hungry, he had to find something. Maybe a little salamander, or on rare occasions a mouse. Something small, but something living. Something that would end so that Kaegen would continue.
As far as the hunger was concerned, attacking a person was the same thing. People weren't important, their lives held no meaning because they were something else. A foreign body that looked out for itself, just as Kaegen did. Why should he hold back, or feel remorse if he was just following the code set out long ago by nature, by civilization itself. When you needed resources you took them. It didn't matter how that effected those you took it from, because those people weren't you.
But the little boy was by no means an alpha predator. His mad lunge only ended in a mouthful of an arm, an arm that had been purposefully placed in his way by a professor that, contrary to Kaegen's beliefs, really did mean him no harm. Kaegen's world was confusing, and dark. And the professors held a very special place in the little boy's heart. Right where most people put satan, or burning to death.
Kaegen's long, razor sharp fangs buried deep into the elder dhampir's arm, and more than a cup of blood was gone in an instant. As kaegen tried to leap backwards and away, to retreat before the inevitable retaliation struck him down, he felt someone grab hold of him, heard someone screaming about something. Something loud. Someone else was also screaming, there was just a lot of noise. Noise everywhere. He could smell blood from somewhere else, but as he twisted around to bite at whoever was trying to pin him down, he came face to face with his friend.
This wasn't supposed to happen, she had told him that he had to be strong, that he couldn't do this anymore. She had told him and he had said he would try. The black snapped out of kaegen's eyes like a taught rubber band, driven out by the warm blood, and the shame. Failure again. Failure so many times, failure on failure on failure.
He allowed his tense muscles to go limp, let his head fall forward, forehead landing heavily on eris' shoulder. He should have let the little prefect take him out. In a way, she had taken him out. In some backwards way, the prefect had won. And now people were all around him, they were staring and muttering and commenting from afar. And then there was the little knot of people around him. The loud, demanding little knot of people.
Kaegen closed his eyes, and made a list. Lists helped him. They had a way of putting things in perspective. For one, he had to find a way to thank the jester boy. He remembered the face, he would just need to find him again. He had been a stranger, and had still helped. That was worth something. For another, the prefect was clearly stronger than he had first thought. And lastly, he had failed utterly and completely.
He could feel the dark place moving closer, the little feeling in the back of his mind increasingly prevalent. He was broken, he realized. He must be. Like a clock that had been bashed around too much. Why else would he be consistently failing so miserably? Why else would everything be falling apart around him. He needed fixing, he needed someone to put his mind in order and give him focus and intelligence. He needed someone to find a way to ensure that this would never happen again.
"Can you find the skinny professor with the white hair?"
Kaegen swallowed hard. He could still taste the astronomy professor's blood. It should have tasted delicious to him, but it felt bitter. He had fed it, fed the creature again. He needed to be fixed, he needed someone who could do something about what was going on, he needed someone who could make sure he could hang out with eris again, like he used to.
"Professor- something. I think she can fix... this. Me. Please, friend."
His head was still pressed down into eris' shoulder, the two professors momentarily forgotten. Fear had given way to despair, and despair didn't care if someone was about to rip your spine out. And besides, why would they throw smoke everywhere if they were just going to rip him up? At least if he died it would be a fast death in the smoke and shadows.

Right.
"Oh, I do remember you," she said. "I barely recognised you through the mask. Anyway, it's a shame that you can't eat because of your mask. I guess it's the price of anonymity."
She heard a commotion from her right and turned to where there was a cloud of smoke and a whole lot of people clustered together like moths to a flame. Well. That was new. "Hey, do you know what's going on over there?"
She hoped there wouldn't be a fire like last time. Suddenly, someone moved and attacked someone else, and she jumped back in shock. Wow, things really were getting serious. And was that a few professors involved?
Suddenly, she turned as someone bumped into her and apologised. "Oh, sorry! I didn't mean to, uh, get in the way." The older student seemed quite amicable, so she sighed with relief.
As for that situation earlier- what was going on at this ball? Her siblings were right, there really was a lot of drama with these kids. But it didn't look as harmless as it had sounded from here. No, it looked extremely dangerous and definitely something Leah didn't want to be near.
"Seriously, what on earth is all of this?" she said to nobody in particular.

She hadn't intended to stand idly, but it seemed her quick-thinking was, at this moment, only reserved to the pitch. It was such a shame that she didn't have a broom here; perhaps it would restore her back to a woman of action instead of a woman of slow pace.
Olphie watched as the children attempted to intervene, as the boy began to panic over the sight of blood, as Equalknocks appeared out of nowhere and offered his arm for food. Suddenly the dots connected, likely far later than any of the other guests - but Olphie, normally fast in action, was quite slow in deductive reasoning. We can't all be perfect.
Cumin spoke, finally emitting words that seemed less like Shakespeare and more like something Olphie could understand. The skinny professor with the white hair... Hardass? She hadn't seen the woman in a while; Olphie missed her style. Leaning forward, the Flying professor began to pace, knowing that she was the only suitable person for the job of guiding.
He spoke again, and though in reality, he probably was speaking to Equinlocks, Olphie felt a lurch in her stomach, a duty to attend the this poor, grieving child, a child who, like many of the students at Hogwarts, could have been her sibling. Her love. Even though she hadn't seen any of them in so, so long...
The creature took the face of Scott, her brother who was near this boy's age, though purely Muggle and far less eerie. Was he in a similar situation now, with life closing in on him, lost in the chaos of fury and destruction? Aren't we all? But the children, the children never deserved it, never deserved the taunts from life's brutal forces that weakened their defenses before they had a chance to strengthen themselves. Her brother. Her siblings...had she passed them this summer, unaware because time had shaped them in ways she knew not?
Her brother's image resonating, Olphie pulled the boy as he uttered his final three syllables, booming over his weak enunciations with a finality: "Enough."
The words would carry loudly over the music, commanding the room like she always did, for it wasn't that challenging to do so when eyes were already on you and the scene that unfolded. The normally boisterous Olphie had a seriousness on her face that no one at Hogwarts had seen yet, the urge to provide protection far more important than any ball, any romance that she desired. The First Year Graduation Party had not tugged on her heartstrings this way, nothing had pulled her this way, for this was the first time in a long while that she saw the faces she had forgotten as a way to cope with the pain.
Pulling the boy from his red-haired comfort, she dragged him as strongly as she could, grateful for the fact that she had thrown those heels away as she chased the pair that was now a gathering. She needed to intervene. If not for Caymen, for Scott. For all her siblings. She lowered her voice so that only the dhampir could hear and murmured, "Come with me."
