The end of the academic year was fast approaching and before the students of Hogwarts faced their final exams, they would be given a treat in the form of the final stage of the duelling championship. With summer around the corner and warmer weather allowing for the grounds to be enjoyed without fear of frostbite, some may have expected the crowd in the duelling club to be sparse. They would be about as far from the truth as they could get as the stands were packed on the weekend of the matches. Spectators were anxious, thrilled, and impatient to witness the outcome of the tournament.

Since the end of the last stage, Gryffindor found themselves in an unfamiliar position - at the top. While the levels of triumph of the other houses fluctuated between the stages, the lions had stayed consistent. Red was quite popular in the stands as fellow housemates of the Gryffindor teams packed in to see if their duellists could take the whole championship. But the rest weren’t losing the color war. The badgers and snakes waved their house-themed items in hopes that their teams could recreate the outcomes of their most successful stage while the Ravenclaws were craving for a blowout.

Anyone walking into the duelling club would first be greeted by a table set up near the entrance. Spectators could find free pamphlets and rule books laid there for them to take back to their dorms. With the seventh years graduating in a few short months, recruitment efforts were at an all-time high and the captains were excited to introduce the sport to a new crop of interested students. Plastered on the wall next to the table was a schedule listing all the participating duellists and their moderators. Moving past that, latecomers would meet the chaos of the crowded stands as matches were just about to begin on the two pistes running down the length of the club room. Soon enough, it was time to see which house would come out on top.

Another stage, another match for his roommate to completely decimate the competition in and leave the arena with victory in his grasp.

With Kim's showing back in October still fresh in his mind, a testimony to just how impressive it was, Aodhan was absolutely ecstatic. He'd been anticipating the event for the entire week, his sleep getting reduced to mere hours each night as a consequence of all the built-up energy. One would think sleep deficit would catch up to him, maybe even replace the excitement he was drowning in for a dose of laziness mixed with exhaustion. However, he was a logical kid... when he wanted to be, and made sure to get in plenty of naps while attending History of Magic. Potential quizzes be damned; he was fully intent on supporting the upperclassman he found himself admiring as time went by, and he needed to be awake for such a thing.

Well, a part of him knew that "admiration" was putting it lightly. Perhaps "enamored" was a better term, but he was never known for being completely honest, whether that be with himself or others. All the boy could willingly admit to was liking Kim, liking the guy a bit more than was normal, and wanted to monopolize the other's time whenever possible. A title would muddy the water and ultimately ruin the entire situation and—yeah.

This time around, he managed to arrive early, something that he quickly regretted but made do with anyhow. After all, this was for Kim. He could pull off waiting a few odd minutes. And wait he did, even if doing so caused him to nearly doze off.

He became alert once his roommate's name was called, his mind locking onto the sound and nearly forcing him to jump in his seat. Then, as if he was fully awake the entire time, he leaned forward in his seat. Perhaps he was too engrossed, however, for he quickly went uncharacteristically silent with the start of the match.

... Something that really didn't last long. Once Kim's attack split to hit not one, but two targets, the boy erupted into an explosion of hoots and hollers.

"YEAHHHH!! THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT, AOI! LET'S GO! MESS THEM UP!" he shouted, clapping like it was his last day on earth. And of course, he refused to remain seated any longer, jumping to his feet as he usually did in events such as this. For a second, he wondered if he could beg the older Gryffindor for instruction on how to throw spells like that. No doubt Aodhan could pull it off. Maybe.

Unfortunately, he caught sight of one girl—the redheaded one—getting hit with two flipendos and some other attack he was sure he'd get taught later. It forced an empathetic wince out of him, along with a furrowed brow.

"Yo, uh, shake it off, Miss Ginger! Like an Amazonian princess would! It's just a flesh wound!" he said encouragingly, though far more controlled than before. He doubted she would even hear him if the way she shook her head was anything to go by, but hopefully the sentiment would reach.
