GRYFFINDOR VS RAVENCLAW - SPRING 2025
SPECTATOR THREAD FOR BROOM RACING - GRYFFINDOR vs RAVENCLAW - SPRING 2025
Date: May 3rd, 2025
Time: 10:00
Weather: cloudy with mild temperatures
With spring right around the corner, the weather was starting to ease up into something more bearable. It was still chilly enough that Alyssea needed a coat sometimes, but short sleeves were definitely coming back into fashion. Unfortunately, it still wasn't warm enough to wear shorts, with the clouds so dark Alyssea was genuinely scared it would suddenly pour with rain, but oh well. Can't have everything straight away, can we?
"Welcome to the last races of the year!" Alyssea greeted the audience in the stands. The amplifying charm was definitely going to be the first spell she will learn next year. She let out an airy sigh. "Time, sure does fly by, doesn't it?"
She took a second to turn to where the racers were gathered, making eye contact with one of the Gryffindor players, before turning back to the stands. She subtly gestured for them to start walking towards the starting line. "Now, since the last time Gryffindor and Ravenclaw versed one another, the teams are looking a little bit different. First, let's greet Gryffindor!"
Soon after, Alyssea gestured to the Ravenclaw team as they took their place at the starting line. "And Ravenclaw! A powerhouse so far, and definitely a terrifying bunch." Alyssea chuckled. A sentiment that was definitely not coming from experience.
Once the commotion settled down enough for Alyssea to speak, she turned to the racers again and cleared her throat. "You all know the drill! Fly fast, work hard, but keep it clean!" She raised an eyebrow. Someone was going to attempt to cheat anyway, but posterity will know she at least tried to stop it.
Alyssea raised her wand to the sky. "On your marks... get set... GO!" And a red light burst into a dozen smaller particles as everyone kicked off.
This is a spectator thread for the Broom Race. 200 words is still the requirement for all threads. Please remember that you are not able to interface with the players in the race from a spectator thread.

Purple crystal pendant and tulip earrings.Even though the Slytherin match was later in the day, Kaitlyn wanted to attend the Gryffindor versus Ravenclaw broomracing match. She knew two of the racers, on opposing teams. But she was never one to buy into the competitiveness of these games. She just wished for those she knew to do well at the game and to stay safe, of course! Just like with Quidditch, broom racing could get dangerous.
The young Slytherin sat on a bleacher in the middle of the stands, after waving at the announcer, Alyssea. Ignoring the weather, she wore a dark green sweater, a black skirt, and black sandals. Her brunette hair was tied in pigtail braids, with her wand tucked safely behind her ear. Her purple crystal pendant and tulip earrings sparkled despite the clouds.
First, Kaitlyn’s blue eyes found Brookline flying amongst the Ravenclaw players. “Wooo! Go, Brook!” She shouted, jumping in the air to show support for her fellow second-year. She clapped loudly, as well. ‘Man, I wish I had some pom-poms with me,’ she giggled. Would that make her more recognizable? She had no idea. But she always liked the idea of being a cheerleader. At her muggle all-girls Catholic boarding school, the cheerleading team had cute uniforms, in her opinion.
Her attention shifted to the Gryffindor team, immediately spotting the red head she was looking for. Just like for Brook, Kaitlyn jumped out of her seat. “Yay, Go, Linda!” She shouted, clapping for the older Gryffindor, as well.
As the race started, Kaitlyn watched with anticipation as the racers got into position and started to fly. As always, chaos ensued. Linda hadn’t flown through the race. Brook, on the other hand, stopped after a bright flash of light. “Don’t worry, Linda! You can do it!” She shouted for her Gryffindor friend. “Shake it off, Brook, shake it off!” She shouted.Word Count:

| xxx | How long had it been since Evelynn had attended a sporting event with any sense of anticipation? Certainly, she'd attended them. It was a rare occasion that the lioness missed out on any event. Even if she was no longer tracking stats or studying those around her, by now it had become habit. Not even the most recent races had known her absence. It had been Pericles' debut to Ravenclaw's racing team, and despite everything having fallen to pieces after the Gala of Mysteries, January's bout had still drawn her presence. Little more than a phantom in the cloak of the surrounding spectator, she'd watched from a distance. Without neither enthusiasm nor reverie and deaf to the cheers and jeers around her at the time, she had simply existing. She had left immediately after the race was called. The bright grin that had so vibrantly splayed across the victor's face had left her aching, unable to decide if she'd hated him for his moment of happiness, or glad that he'd been able to find it where it yet eluded her. She hadn't stuck around to watch their lap of triumph. Today, though, Evelynn had made her way to the track well ahead of the start of the race, compelled to find a good position. Harkening to her younger days, she had made sure to bring her satchel with her, provisioned with snacks and drinks and other various not-quite-necessities to make a morning of spectating more enjoyable for herself and whoever else in proximity may find themselves in need. Most importantly, she had brought her pair of omnioculars and her camera. So rarely did it find itself being used, yet as the months of her time at Hogwarts began to count down, she found herself rather uncharacteristically pining for momentos. Especially now that her various friendships were finally smoothing over. Plus, when Pericles won again, she wanted to make sure to capture that moment. She hadn't exactly made the greatest impression with his father, a simple reality that increasingly haunted her with every additional week she had to reflect on the unexpected encounter. Since parents were regrettably precluded from participating in any of the Hogwarts school events, it occurred to her that perhaps a sentiment such as a photo of his son could begin to remedy her diplomatic lapse. Plus, win or lose, Gryffindor was involved, and she figured she had best show her support lest she risk the ire of a roommate. (@Raizel Voltrouz) She spent some time snapping a few photos prior to the start of the race, capturing the racers as they prepared and got into position. Naturally, more of her time ended up spent on those she knew best, and she captured a particularly endearing moment of @Pericles Dralt and @Dealla Prince as they exchanged a few words conspiratorially; and a second of Prince matronly adjusting the hair of a younger student (@Brookline Quinn). She even took a couple photos of a young girl in the stands nearby (@Kaitlyn Conner) as she energetically cheered for her friends. Sooner than later, however, the race was underway. And with a rather spectacularly fumble on just about all accounts. Brows rose as both Pericles and Prince--both devilishly capable ex-duellists--failed to cast their spells. Granted, it must have been quite a bit more difficult to multi-task flying and spell-casting. It was never something she had really tried, herself. Perhaps she ought to. Still, they did well enough. Her tongue tsked against the back of her teeth as the Gryffindor captain found themselves waylaid by the waterfall, but everyone else seemed to clear it easily enough, droplets of water spraying with a rainbow of refracted light as the racers cut through its curtain. Click click. The camera snapped a couple of times. Hopefully they wouldn't be too blurred once developed. The Malaclaws offered no trouble at all, the racers flocking through their midst with ease. But she had to shield her eyes against the impossibly bright light. By the time her eyes adjusted, the track had certainly spread out. As Pericles and Prince fell into the middle of the pack and @Piérre Marchonné pulled out well ahead, she temporarily forgot about her photos. |
