Graci was delighted to be able to plant. She was given seedlings, and the starts of other local plants to bury around the school.
She was realizing, as well, that she didn't have a lot of hobbies, but was always up for new stuff. It wasn't sad, per se, but she almost wished she just had one specific thing she was really good at.
Gardening probably isn't it, but it will look so pretty once they sprout and bloom.
Most people Graci knew either would totally enjoy sitting in the dirt and planting seeds, the other ones wouldn't probably came near her afterwords.
She sighed, coming back to the moment. Dirt under her knees, gardening trowel in hand, a small pit in the soil in front of her. The slight breeze was making her get dirt in her hair every time she brushed it back, making her wish she had brought a hair tie.
Welp, too late now. Graci didn't really care, she just love what she was doing.
And usually, when Graci was doing something she loved, she started singing, or humming when in other people's presence.
But now, that she was alone, she felt she could actually sing. And what better song to sing when planting than one about a garden.
~I wonder if you'll leave me
Behind someday
Among the wildflowers and the lilies
Sleeping by the way
But it’s okay
Because I would do anything for you~
This was one of the slower songs Graci usually listened to, overgrown garden by Beetlebug.
~The sunlight dances beyond the yard
And painted your eyes in green
But you're fixated on the candytufts
And you hadn't the time for me
I wonder if you'll leave me
Behind someday
Among the wildflowers and the lilies
Sleeping by the way
But it’s okay
Because I would do anything for you
I washed my hair till it trickled down the drain
As the lavender filled the air
The scent might drive me half insane
But maybe you'll see me then~
Graci just kept singing the song, occasionally singing a different one from one of her cherished musicals, but always going back to the one.
It was a short, beautiful song. But Graci only hoped that anyone else planting would be far enough away to merely hear a whisper of her song on the wind. She continued planting for a while. It could've been an hour could've been fifteen minutes, she'd given time less hold over her since coming to Hogwarts with their limited clocks.

ReducioA bright smile crossed Kaitlyn’s features. She lovingly held the seeds she was given to help plant on the grounds of the castle. It would help make the grounds look beautiful again and replenish the plants. Due to recent events, this was sorely needed. Frankly, the young Slytherin didn’t mind the task at hand. Her favorite class at Hogwarts was Herbology, so this just seemed to be a natural extension of such learning.
Kneeling on the ground, Kaitlyn was wearing a lilac dress and black sandals, completely ignoring the dirt that she was in. Her brunette hair was tied in pigtails. A crystal pendant hung from her neck. She loved planting flowers! Sure, the plants they learned about in Herbology were magical and possibly dangerous. But, if there was one thing she believed in with all of her heart, it was that every plant deserved to be loved and nurtured exactly the same! Plus, tickling the plants and watering them was always so fun! It was no wonder that she liked spending time in the greenhouses.
Not bothering to wear gloves, Kaitlyn took a trowel and dug a hole in the earth. She picked out a set of seeds and sprinkled them into the earth. As she did so, her mind clouded over, thinking of a poem she read from her favorite poetry book, A Forest of Poems.
Just as she was spreading soil over the seeds, Kaitlyn heard singing. It was soft, but she could still hear it. A girl was singing close by. A smile formed on her lips, taking her time at first. She was quite curious to see who was singing, but she’d also hate to ruin that girl’s song. After all, she’d hate to be a bother. But, in her opinion, the girl’s song came out well. It sounded pretty sweet. It starts with a toss,
So innocent,
Spreading out little pieces of hope,
Over a vast area,
Letting the wind carry the small sparks around.
Then burying them in the earth.
It feels like time slows down.
With each ray of light,
With each gentle drop of water.
All to nurture a new life,
To bless Mother Nature with a new joy,
To give some extra color to a mundane scene.
That is not all, too!
It also blesses our minds,
It clears the dark clouds of a busy mind,
Giving us something precious to watch,
As its growth finally takes hold.
First with roots,
Then, with the stem and leaves slowly bursting out of the ground.
Plants are so joyful,
They give us something to do,
When we water and fertilize them,
All to nurture their very existence.
Plants spread love around,
By merely existing.
Their bright colors brighten any mood,
And brings a smile to my face.
Do you know the best part of gardening?
It is the knowledge that this bundle of joy is because of your efforts.
Your love.
Your desire.
Your time.
Your effort.
All to give a handful of seeds a chance.
A chance at life.
Then to watch it bloom and mature.
Growing a plant warms my heart,
And brightens my garden.
I know there is no place I’d rather be!
While Kaitlyn had no idea just how long she had been outside planting the flowers, she stood from her spot. She dusted some of the caked dirt from her knees and toes before stretching briefly. That was one aspect of gardening that she wasn’t entirely thrilled with. Her legs fell asleep easily in such a position, and she’d have to walk it off. Figuring it was a good idea to take a quick break and to hopefully see who was singing, she headed in the direction of the voice.
After a few moments, Kaitlyn spotted Graci planting flowers, and it appeared that she was singing. Kaitlyn smiled kindly. Graci seemed interesting to her. Silently and gracefully moving closer to the younger Gryffindor, Kailtyn smiled. “That was an awesome song,” she whispered, hoping not to frighten her.Word Count:

Graci almost jumped out of her skin when she heard a voice by her. 'That was an awesome song' they had said.
She turned around, "Gosh you scared me, I mean thank you, but sheesh." She paused, "Sorry, I was just scared for a bit, Oh! Hi, Kaitlyn." Graci grinned sheepishly, "It's Overgrown Garden by Beetle Bug."
Graci was kind of embarrassed at how rude she had sounded at first. Usually she was never that... what is a word for is? Brash, shocked, chatty? Nah, she was always that chatty. Just usually chatty in a different tone.
Another voice came from around them, the higher pitched voice of Andronica. "I heard singing and I thought I'd come check it out!"
"Oh, hi Andronica, that would be me singing. I'm not that good so sorry 'bout that. I didn't think I was singing that loud." Graci's face flushed an even brighter shade of red, matching her sweater. It showed more now than it would've at the beginning of the school year. Her skin was paler now, she was still tanner than at least seventy-five percent of the rest of the school, but it was noticeable to her.
I guess it happens like this every year, but this feels different. I guess when I go to Greece this summer I'll have to stay out extra long so I don't forget where I come from. Greece is my home just as much as London. or even Hogwarts now.
"Do you guys want to plant together?"

ReducioGently dusting her hands, Kaitlyn glanced around at the grounds. After that mushroom incident, the grounds were in desperate need of these flowers. Furthermore, they were in desperate need to bloom even more. No matter what stage the plants were in, she knew she was going to love running around the grounds to look at all of the nice flowers.
‘Maybe when I go to visit the Greenhouses to water and tend to the plants in there, I could frolick around the grounds and all of the wonderful plants that will hopefully bloom. I’m not sure if I’d be able to take care of them all … but I’m determined. I’ll give it my all. I love plants!’
A quiet giggle escaped Kaitlyn’s lips at Graci’s reaction. “Sorry for scaring you. I honestly wasn’t trying to. I don’t believe I’ve heard of that song before, but it sounds lovely when you sing it,” she replied, honesty in her voice. She had no idea if Graci was the type to shy away from the praise. Despite her overall shyness, she wasn’t shy about her art.
With a smile on her face, Kaitlyn heard footsteps nearby and saw Andronica skipping over and waving. “Hi Ann!” She greeted her with a smile, nodding at the comment about the singing. “It’s great to see you both.”
Looking back at Graci, Kaitlyn’s smile widened. She loved to plant flowers and hurriedly nodded. “Yes, please! I’d love to!” She exclaimed in response and giggled.Word Count:

Graci didn't know if she was going to enjoy planting with someone, but she figured it couldn't hurt. She might even enjoy it. Probably.
Andronica said something and then left, Graci didn't quite hear her but she figured it would be all right.
"It's fine, I was just a bit startled. Do you like plants very much? You seem to."
It was probably a bit of a bad conversation starter. Everyone doing this most likely had an affinity for plants, however small. Graci herself liked plants, but she much preferred other things more. But she would just be wasting away in her room if she wasn't doing this, so she didn't mind.
Graci's mind drifted off to a year or two ago, when her mom had helped her transplant herbs into pots.
'C'mon Graci, the basil doesn't smell that bad, it tastes really good. You know this from when we made pesto!'
'Why can't I just do the mint?'
'Becauseeee, you already did that.'
'Oh right.' Graci and her mom were laughing, dirt coating their hands and clothes like they were in the middle of a dust storm. They had been doing a project for school, basically just making sure they were capable of keeping things alive.
Those were the good days, alright, but I love this place just as much as London or Greece.

ReducioKaitlyn couldn’t hear well, but she noticed that Andronica muttered something and left. But who was she to judge? She was normally pretty shy herself, so there was not much she could say about the subject.
A smile crossed Kaitlyn’s lips, and she nodded as she kneeled in the dirt with her trowel. “That’s ok. I’m normally not too scary,” she laughed. It was never her intention to be scary, but she knew how easy it was to be startled. It happened to her a lot, after all.
“Yes, I do. I love plants. Do you?” Kaitlyn giggled as she dug a hole. “I enjoy volunteering my time in the greenhouses. I got permission to do so. I can only go into the first two greenhouses so far … and the plants are just so cute and cuddly,” She looked over at Graci and beamed. “I’m really excited to see some of the later greenhouses and the more dangerous plants!”
Letting silence fall between the girls, Kaitlyn considered what else to talk about. She wasn’t the best at social interactions, but she also didn’t want to be awkward around Graci. She had seen the younger girl a lot recently, and she was interested in getting to know more about her.
“Do you have a favorite flower?” Kaitlyn asked, finally.Word Count:

Graci smiled at Kaitlyn, "You're a plant person, eh? Good to know. But I don't know about all the plants being cute and cuddly. I'm half convinced some of them are out to get me, though that could just be my clumsiness. Dangerous plants don't sound completely my forte. But I don't mind Herbology much, all things considered."
Graci assumed Kaitlyn's favourite teacher was professor Toussaint-Fleischer. She was one of Graci's favourite professors, as well, the charms teacher being her first choice.
"Hm, favourite flower? Probably Cyclamen, it grows over all of Spetses, really pretty, too. I like wisteria, as well, but I haven't really seen much in person. What's yours? Though I assume you have quite a few."
Graci went back to planting the small seeds marveling at the fact that the small seedlings would soon grow into plants. The world never ceases to amaze me, so beautifully crafted.
She really liked the feel of the dirt sifting through her fingers. She heard it was a really great way to use all parts of her brain. Though, she didn't really know how credible the source was, or why it even said that.
Thinking of her earlier singing she didn't know whether to feel embarrassed or not. She didn't know if she actually sang well or if they were just being nice. Guess I'll never know.

ReducioA quiet giggle escaped Kaitlyn’s lips at the mention of plants being out to get Graci. It was potentially possible, considering there were plants that had some degree of sentience. Although it was very unlikely for Graci to have been near them … and almost equally unlikely for Kaitlyn to have seen them … despite enjoying plants. “In my opinion, it’s based on how you treat them … or at least, that’s how I justify it,” she shrugged.
“I instantly fell in love with the class last year, as soon as I walked into the first-year greenhouse,” Kaitlyn chuckled at her memory. As it was, she quite enjoyed Professor Toussaint-Fleischer’s teaching … hence why she volunteered at her first opportunity to help in the greenhouses. Herbology was also one of the first classes in which she felt comfortable enough to talk during, despite her shyness.
“Oh! Cyclamen and Wisteria are great choices! Ah, you are correct in that assumption,” Kaitlyn giggled, as she cleaned out a little extra dirt with her dainty fingers. She picked up a bright sunflower, carefully planting it into the hole. “I do like many kinds. My absolute favorite are tulips,” she gestured a dirt-covered hand to her ears. “I have these cute tulip earrings I made … well, these ones were after I was sorted as a Slytherin, hence the green. But, I also have pink tulip earrings,” she smiled.
“I also love carnations, peonies, dittany of Crete… and ugh, so many others. It’s almost as difficult to name, like if you asked me my favorite book,” Kaitlyn laughed. It was true, she had difficulty choosing her favorite books. Her tastes tended toward science fiction and fantasy, but she wasn’t against other genres at times. True Crime, Historical, Romance, and others could rouse her interest. She firmly pushed dirt around the sunflower to support the newly planted plant.Word Count:

Graci grinned at Kaitlyn, continuing to plant and enjoying the feeling of dirt under her hands.
"I mean, I don't know if I'm treating them a certain way, but then again, I try to maintain my distance." Graci didn't mind the plants, but small-ish spaces filled with things she could never manage to not knock over didn't ever end well. I'm really far to clumsy, it's getting to be a hazard to me and everyone else around me.
"It's really cool that you like Herbology! I don't know many people where it's their favourite subject, so it's really intriguing. And tulips are adorable. Have you been to the Netherlands? I hear they have a lot of pretty tulips! And your earrings sound absolutely darling. I have a few different pairs, but they're mostly just small gold ones."
Before Hogwarts she had just gotten her helix piercings for an early birthday present and a 'congrats on getting into Hogwarts' present. She had always really loved earrings, the way they could be another form of self expression when all she wore were black robes.
"All of those flowers are so pretty. Sometimes I just have to tell myself I have a favourite so I have an answer. But favorite book... I don't have one of those. My father owns a bookstore, but I was never as much of a reader as my sister. I get too distracted, and far too easily. I just... can't focus."
