A Fresh Note
Adlai had spent the last few days curled up at a desk in the library gorging herself with astronomy books of all kinds. The one she was reading now was rather gripping. The book explained the many ways, shapes, and forms magic was related to astronomy, how they weaved together. Leaning forward to breathe in the essence of the page, the extra cloth of her hijab slipped over her shoulders
She did her very best to memorize each passage as if she'd never see this book again when she returns it to its rightful shelf.
Although she veered and admired the many works of Stephen Hawking and Dava Sobel the mystical authors of the wizard of world were a breathe of fresh air.
While memorizing the passages Adlai pondered in the back of her mind weather or not check out the masterful book, knowing however she would probably never return it afterward.
With a heavy sigh she wrote the title and author of the book onto a piece of scrap paper, so that she may be able to purchase the book for herself in the near future. The scrap paper already held a list of twenty five books she had in mind for purchasing.
In order for her to have them all, she knew it would be wise for her to better save up whatever little money she could earn. After all not all education is free.

Isaac Dou rushed into the Library, books nearly falling out of his arms in his haste. He really didn’t want those books to be late.
He always did that, and never learned his lesson from it. He should never check out more books than he could read. Stacked in his arms were books on Hogwarts, mythical creatures, astronomy, but more importantly, Dhampirs. Isaac had never had so much access to so much information on being a Dhampir than what was there at Hogwarts. He knew the basics of what he was and how to live being that, but knowing more is what he wants. What he needs. And if he has to practically run to the library with stacks of books in his arms, so be it.
“Excuse me, Ms.” Isaac ran up to the front desk, panting. “I need to return these books and I’m—” he checked his watch after unloading them from his arms “—thirty-five seconds early.” He smiled.
Nailed it.
After a quick argument about the timing of his book return and whether or not it was valid, Isaac happily walked away with a triumphant smirk. Time management skills are obviously his forte.
He was about to start browsing the shelves when he accidentally knocked down a stack of books from a desk a Hufflepuff girl was sitting at, sending them scattering.
“Bloody—” he mumbled dropping to pick them up. “I’m sorry about that.”

Adlai’s head shot up from her book as she heard the loud thud of the books falling. A large chorus of hushing following.
“I’m sorry about that.” She heard a boy say. Leaning over the side of the desk Adlai saw him.
He was picking up the books he had knocked over.
“It’s perfectly fine, I shouldn’t had them so close to the edge.” She whispered to him. Climbing off of the chair she had perched herself on and began to help him pick up the books.
“Are you looking for anything to read? If so I can give you a few suggestions.”
She offered placing three of the books onto the desk and then going back for the last few.
Of course though her offer was kind, all the books she would suggest would be astronomy related in some form or another.
Was this her way of dragging unwilling people down into the void of stars and galaxies with her? Yes, yes it absolutely was and she had no shame in it, as for her it was hard to find people who shared her passion. Well, other than the astronomy professor, who probably didn’t even remember her face or name.

“Are you looking for anything to read? If so I can give you a few suggestions.” The girl asked.
“Actually, yeah,” Isaac replied, scooping up the books in his arms and laying them flat on the desk, careful not to crumple the pieces of parchment scattered around. He stacked them up one by one, from biggest to smallest before standing up and brushing of his knees. “I just returned some books about this one topic, and I was about to start looking for something new. I’m honestly not sure what though, so some recommendations would defiantly be appreciated.”
Isaac noticed as he straightened out the stack of books that that nearly all of them that he had picked up were about astronomy. “Oh,” he said pointing to a small book near the top, the spine worn and bent. “I’ve read that one! It was actually pretty interesting. Are you into astronomy?” The topic definitely wasn’t super interesting to him, but he liked learning about new things. And he also liked seeing what other people were passionate about, and this girl obviously loved the subject. Besides, he could use some new friends. “I’m Isaac, by the way,” he said, extending his hand.

“Oh I absolutely love astronomy!” Adlai caterwauled receiving a well deserved “Quite!” spat at her.
“Sorry.” She whispered but loud enough to hear from afar.
Smoothing out the nonexistent wrinkles in her ankle length skirt Adlai shook Issac’s hand, leaning back to make sure she wasn’t slouching.
“I’m Adlai, Adlai Rod. Nice to meet you Issac.” She said before turning around sifting through her papers.
Taking a piece of parchment off the desk she handed it to Issac. It was a list of books she had read before. Except it they weren’t astronomy related, the books were on magical creatures.
“I personally like this one the best.” She said leaning forward and pointing to the title of a book near of the bottom. “It’s all about the evolution and anatomy of pixies.” She told him not wanting to give to much away she stepped back.
“What kind of books did you return?” She asked curious to know his interests so that she may be able to find more books that may be interesting to him, that he would enjoy.
Nonetheless if he didn’t tell her she would just continue to suggest the literature of astronomy to him, that is if she ever saw him again after this encounter.

Isaac stuffed the piece of parchment into the pocket of his robe, feeling the other folded bits of paper and pens left in there from previous classes.
He fiddled nervously with the bottom of his ear at the last question Adlai asked. He really did want to be open about him being a Dhampir, but some people hadn’t taken it very well in the past. He could remember the disgust and fear on their faces as the moved as far away from him as they could. Talking about being a Dhampir was taboo to some people. They really couldn’t handle the fact that some people just aren’t the same as them. Still, he didn’t want to just pretend to be something he wasn’t.
“They were books about Dhampirs,” he answered firmly. “It’s just because, I am one and never really had much access to information before coming to Hogwarts, so I wanted to learn.
“Some of them were on just normal school stuff,” He continued, hand drifting down to rest on his lips while he talked. “But that stuff is boring, you know? I mean, it can be interesting at points but it’s no fun learning when you’re being forced to.”

“Dhampire?” Adlai cocked her head to the side.
“Like the astronomy professor? I haven’t read about Dhampire’s yet.” She said scribbling the word onto a piece of paper to look more into later.
“Do I have a lot to learn.” She mumbled
“I agree with you about the information that we are required to learn. It’s not exactly fun having to memorize what you’re not interested in.” She said leaning her back against the desk, picking up a book, and tracing the sides of the cover.
“What period do you have potions?” She asked, a twinkle in her eyes began to form as an idea had popped into her head.
“I had talked to my potions partner about studying together, maybe we could all study together sometime in the future. That is if your ok with it? I don’t want to drag you into something you wouldn’t like.”
Obviously that part was a flat out lie, again referring to her astronomy obsession.
She put the book back down and pushed herself off of the side of the desk, leaning forward to get a better look at Issac.
He was decent. Pale skin, black hair, slim eyes and glasses. He reminded her of the old tattered photos her mother had shown her of her grandfather when he was around eleven.

The astronomy professor was a Dhampir? Isaac had no idea. If a Dhampir was allowed to teach at Hogwarts, then he should be fine. Maybe the teacher could even help if he ever got too hungry, and he had never met an another Dhampir before. It was enough to get him even more excited about Hogwarts. He smiled happily and answered Adlai’s question.
“Yeah study partners would be great. I’m really struggling in History of Magic,” Isaac replied. “That class literally sucks the life out of me, I can barely stay awake most days.” That much was the truth. Professor Binns was so slow and monotone you couldn’t help but just drift off. In some cases, he would find himself missing whole pages of notes and memories without even meaning to. He guesses he accidentally falls asleep, which was sort of frustrating. He wanted to pass his classes, but how could he do that if he kept falling asleep?
“Also, who is your potions partner?” Isaac asked. If he was going to study with those two, he needed to at least know what he was getting himself into. He didn’t want someone who completely didn’t know what they were even doing. But, instead of saying all that, he just says, “Maybe I’ve meet them.”

“His name is @Virgil Lee, you might have seen him around. He’s got downturned eyes, black hair. He’s quite and normally stands on the side lines.” She said not going into much detail but describing him enough for someone to get a rough idea of what he looked like.
Virgil was kind to Adlai though she worried she had bored him with her inconsistent rambling of newly found information she’d read about Quasars.
The top of potions just never really stuck with her, leading her to distract her desk mate. So of course her idea may work. For her to invite him to a study session since they had been missing SO much material in potions due to her ranting.
Taking note of the color of Issac’s robes she added, “He’s a Slytherin like you, so may share a dorm.”
Hoping that this fact may aid him in his minds search for a face to match the name with.
She began to excited, ‘What if they do know each other? What if we all get along? Will we actually study if we meet up in a study group?’ simple questions they were but they leaned a lot to Adlai for all she wished for was a group of friends to call her own.
“We could all meet in the study room.”

Virgil Lee. Isaac didn’t know anyone who went by that name, but he most likely had run into him at some point, them being both Slytherin. It wasn’t entirely impossible. Then again, he barely knew who his dorm mates were yet, but he never forgot a face.
“Yeah, sorry,” Isaac said. “I don’t know who that is, but maybe I’ve seen them around.”
He fumbled around in his pocket for a scrap piece of parchment before pulling it out along with a muggle pen. Honestly, he didn’t even know why Hogwarts still used pen and ink. What’s so bad about mechanical pencils?
He handed the parchment to Adlai along with the pen. “Could you write down the time and place? I want to make sure I don’t screw it up” he laughed. He was going to continue browsing after she gave him the information, as he had just remembered that he actually had a purpose for why he was in the library other than the book returns.
Although Isaac had checked out as much as possible about Dhampirs, those were only the books with Dhampir or some variant of it on the cover. If he really wanted to search, he had to dig deeper. So Isaac waited for the information he needed, and would be on his way.
