The Masquerade Ball
Interacting with @Dan Palmer, @Duna Nixis, and @Jake Morris. Open to Interactions!
Piérre’s eyes lit as the Joker responded cooly, just as Piérre would have imagined.
Piérre nodded, carefully crossing his blue suit jacket’s arms as his composed self absorbed each word. God if felt so weird not to be bouncing off the walls, but if someone recognized him, cool. His mission as of now, however, was to stay undercover for as long as possible and meet new people under the cover of unfamiliarity. Yet, Piérre couldn’t get over the feeling that he had met this individual somewhere. A party perhaps? He recognized the dark hair... naruto pajamas..."I'm hoping to get one here, as a matter of fact. Could always use another."
Ah! The movie night! Yes, now he remembered. Piérre didn’t remember the kid’s name, but he did remember seeing him there.
”Mm-hm... no such thing as too many, right?” Even though Piérre wasn’t Joker, he was wearing a masque of a jester, so... guilty by association and proximity?
There was a light touch at his right hip, where he kept his wand, and Piérre spotted thin fingers gently grasp the green handle of they yew and snallygaster wand. Despite himself, Piérre had to hold back a laugh, biting his tongue to let the theatrics continue. He knew exactly what was happening, but he didn’t care. All was fair in a thief’s eyes after all. A smirk spread across the boy’s face, lighting his eyes behind their persona mask.Ability: Keen Eye
The Joker held up Piérre’s wand, as if to spin it between his fingers in a small taunt of achievement as the smile grew wider."You expect me to steal something?"
Behind the emotionless face, Piérre smiled broadly. He really liked this guy. He got the whole gist of pranking and how to do it right."Who says I'm not?"
The Joker flipped the wand into the air before catching it by the exposed white wood and offering the green handle back to Piérre, which he carefully took before placing it back at his hip. ”The Show’s Over.” Piérre said, after securing it and looking back up at the boy. He gave a curt bow as if acknowledging a sensei and then tugged at the wrist of one of his blue silk gloves.
By this time, the Joker had turned back to his compatriot pumpkin, who had given a small ‘hello’ of acknowledgement to Piérre after he had first arrived. Sensing that he was going to be a distraction on a couple of friends if he stayed for any longer, Piérre decided to make his exunt, but not before formally saying goodbye. ”I hope this encounter won’t be our last.” Piérre nodded to the Joker again before waving goodbye and turning back to the party.
He was up against Duna as soon as he turned.
She was dressed in the most ADORABLE pink outfit. It looked like a delicate ballerina’s dress which gently floated down to her pink slippered feet. Her masque was only an eye obscuring one, so Piérre almost immediately identified her, but it was a bunny mask which complimented the pink of her dress almost perfectly.
Piérre was so happy to see the Hufflepuff, he almost tackled her in a hug.
Fortunately, however, he managed to keep his excitement to a raising in his pitch and an undiluted Italian accent. ”GODRIC, you look AWESOME!” Piérre ran around Duna once as he looked at her costume in its entirety. ”You’re so cute! It looks so awesome on you!”
He faced her once again, smiling, before he realized that he was wearing a full masque which looked borderline intimidating.
”Oh!” Piérre shook his head, bringing his hands to his face in order to loosen the Masque enough to barely show his face to Duna without revealing his identity to everyone gathered. ”It’s Piérre by the way. Sorry for looking so scary there at first. It’s a traditional Italian masque. They’re supposed to look a little grotesque and scary...” So saying, Piérre put the mask on again, only letting his emerald eyes sparkle gaily through again.
”So what’s up? How are classes treating you? You wanna try and meet some people?” Piérre gestured to the entire ballroom and its small collected groups. There was, in an area, a group of three, one individual Noticing @Kaegen Deathmote of which looked paler and almost dead, without a mask and in plain, tattered black robes and a black umbrella slung over their back. Was it just him, or did he notice evident white markings around the individual’s throat...?
Piérre wanted to make a point of going over there later. They looked like an interesting individual, even if they already had company with them.
Tearing his eyes away and making a mental note to check it out later, Piérre refocused on Duna, waiting for her to respond to his signature outburst of random questions and inquiries.

The Masquerade Ball
Charlotte couldn't honestly be arsed with going to a ball- the only reason she was going was because Gem was bugging her about it. She noticed that he was a sucker for these type of things, and she couldn't help but roll her eyes at the fact.
Regardless, she tried to make herself look a nice as she could... afterall there were people to impress. She brushed down her short brown hair, taking the time to straighten some of the parts that really seemed to be stubborn. She wasn't going to go crazy with her makeup like some of the other girls in her year- lipgloss and mascara would do it for her.
Finally she turned around and looked at the red dress her mom had sent her. Despite hating wearing dresses, she loved this one. It was a red A-line dress and it was simple, hard to mess up. But the best part had to have been the fact that it was actually comfortable AND it had pockets. A rarity in female fashion.
She slid on her outfit and looked in the mirror one last time before putting on her sequin mask, tying it tightly around her head.
Charlotte could feel the excitement after she left her room, alreading noticing how much faster she was walking- until that walking turned into speed walking and that speed-walking turned into running. She could feel her heart beating in her chest; she'd never been super involved in anything like this, and seeing the amount of people in cute outfits made her that much more excited.
But she wasn't here for anyone else other than her friend group- her eyes were scanning through the crowd until she saw a familiar face.
Sneaking up behind James, she pounced on him, wrapping her arms around his neck loosely. She noticed he had more height on him as compared to the last time she saw him.
"Betcha missed me," She squinted, smiling more and more by the second.

The Masquerade Ball
@Lark Flaer @Maggie Parker @Koko Riddle @Elzabeth Gillan
Dale thought about just how lucky he was to have Lark accept his invitation, it really was the only reason he had went to the ball, he was sure if Lark hadn't had said yes he would've just stayed in his dorm, or maybe just sneak out and sleep by the great lake.
"You look pretty handsome yourself."
"T-Thanks..." Dale locked eyes with Lark, a rush of heat washed over him but he didn't look away, they gazed at each other for what seemed, at least to Dale, 5 minutes, but in reality, it was probably just a few seconds, Dale only broke his gaze when he heard a familiar voice "How are the two of you on this lovely evening? Dale looked to see the last person he wanted to see, the girl that set him on fire at the last party he attended.
I'm sorry about that last costume party. Incendio was the wrong spell to use. I'm Koko, and you are?"
So Koko was her name, Dale decided to let the past be the past, maybe the girl was just eager to use magic at the time. But it seemed like Lark was a bit more concerned then Dale, "Used..I.I.Incendio on 'im?" Dale didn’t want Lark to worry since he didn’t really get hurt at all, only his “costume” got burnt a little, but Dale did have to hand it to Koko, she had great control over her magic “Don’t worry about it Lark, it barley even hit me! Also, my name is Dale, Dale Kurt, and don't worry about the whole incendio thing.” Dale assured both girls.
It seemed like Lark knew the girl that had approached them because they sure acted like great friends, Dale smiled, it was good to see Lark enjoy the night. He turned his attention back to Koko, “You don't plan on hitting me with any more magic tonight, right?” Dale said lightheartedly, Dale looked around the ballroom again, it was even more full than last time, and the music was still just as bad.
"I think I need a drink.."
He heard Lark say, She looked a bit… nervous, maybe? Dale couldn’t really make out the expression on her face, but he was nevertheless worried about it, but before he could ask she asked: "Do you guys want anythin' ta drink?" And before he could even answer that she turned around and said "I'll go get us all drinks an' such. Elz?" He could tell that something was wrong “I-I can come with you?” but it was too late, Lark hadn't heard him and went off to the refreshment table with her friend, he wondered if it was his fault.

He turned to face her and grinned.
“What the hell! Where have you been, dude? I thought you’d been eaten by a dragon or something”
He threw his arms around her and pulled her to him in a tight hug.
“I did miss you.” He said, “I really missed you”
He turned to the other girls and gestured awkwardly. “Brielle and Aphrodite, this is Charlotte, she’s my- uh- she’s my- Charlotte.... she’s Charlotte...” his face turned a dark shade of beetroot red. He met Charlotte’a eyes and slipped his hand into hers. “She’s my- uh... girlfriend?” He whispered nervously, “...that’s ok to say, yeah?”
“And I don’t know if you met them Charlotte but this is Brielle, Gem’s girlfriend... and friend Aphrodite.”
He nudged her and whispered into her ear.
“Ok, did you that Gem had a girlfriend? He completely forgot to mention this to me.”
He turned back to the group and shuffled sort of awkwardly, feeling the need to fill the air with words.
“So I’m not big on this stuff, this is kinda my first ball... what do we actually- like... do?”

@Euphrasia MillieShe hadn't expected anyone to interact with her, not so soon after her arrival. Because of that, the Gryffindor couldn't help but jump a little bit, clearly startled, when she heard a voice sound from right beside her. Pastry half-chewed in her mouth, Rhea quickly swallowed it down before smiling lopsidedly at the girl. It didn't look like anyone familiar, not even someone she vaguely recognized, nor did it sound like any of her friends. She put down her plate and turned around to fully face the girl, admiring her pink dress and matching mask.
"Don't worry about it, it's not like you made me drop anything or whatever," Rhea said in regards to the girl's apologies, before allowing a small laugh to escape her when the girl mentioned the masks. "The masks really hide everyone's identity, don't they? Personally, I can't recognize anyone, but maybe it's just cause I'm slow." Rhea shrugged.
"It's nice to meet you, Millie. I'm Rhea," she smiled and moved aside her mask a bit, allowing the other to see who she really was. Masks could truly obscure someone's identity, and Rhea didn't want a potential new friend not knowing who she was. "I don't think I've ever met you before... have I? No matter. I'm a third year, Gryffindor. You?" Maybe if this girl was in the same house as her, Rhea would get an idea of who this stranger was - perhaps by simply seeing her in the common room, or maybe seeing her in any similar classes. All Rhea knew for sure was that it wasn't a third year, as Rhea knew most of those who were in her year.
"Also, rather random, but I love your dress. I was going to go with something a bit more formal, but if I'm being honest," Rhea leaned in close, as if about to let Millie in on a big secret, "I wasn't planning on going to this ball anyway - so this outfit is very last minute. These balls always turn out for the worst, but I'm hoping this one doesn't! These boots weren't meant for running." Rhea lifted her heel off the ground for a second, as if showing off her shoes (she totally was, she just didn't wanna make it obvious).
It was only then that Rhea realized how much she'd been taken, so a small blush took over her cheeks. Without saying anything else, she grabbed her plate and shoved a pastry in her mouth to shut herself up, still smiling sheepishly at Millie. How very ladylike.
the trouble is, if you don't risk anything -- you risk more.

The ballroom was abuzz with party-goers now. Jorah liked it better this way, easier to blend in, hence why he suggested arriving 30 minutes after the party's start to avoid being the awkward first-comers. There were already some students on the dance floor. Jorah had never danced with someone before. He studied the movement of the dancers making a mental note of where the guys where putting their hands, he would need to remember this for later. To Jorah's relief, Ruthie did not want to dance immediately, inquiring "Food first?" Perfect, this will give me more time to figure out how to dance. "Yes, lead the way," replied Jorah. The pair made their way over to a table filled with hors d'oeuvres, cookies, and glasses of an unknown liquid. Jorah grabbed two glasses, handing one to Ruthie. "Cheers!," he said clinking the glasses and throwing his back. Huh, this tastes like the Yoo-Hoo Dad buys for me. "Ahh, that hit the spot. Mine is chocolaty, what does yours taste like"? Jorah payed special attention to what Ruthie's favorite drink was, that information would come in handy for later.
Jorah grabbed a couple of plates to hold a selection of hors d'oeveres and cookies, for him and Ruthie to share. He wasn't sure what he was picking up, but he thought they'd give it all a try. "Lets grab a table, it doesn't look like there's many chairs to a table and I want to sit together." The two sat down and Jorah placed the snacks in between them. For once he wasn't hungry, the butterflies he was feeling were enough for his stomach at the moment. Jorah wasn't sure what to do now so he looked around the table, examining the floral arrangement at its center. He picked a few small pink flowers from the decorative centerpiece and showed them to Ruthie. "Sorry, I didn't get you anything. This is my first dance and I wasn't sure if I should, but here." Jorah tucked the flowers above her mask and behind her left ear. "There you go, you could be part Veela now, ha", he jested. Now with a more sincere tone, "But really...you look beautiful, Ru" The butterflies in his stomach fluttered with greater intensity as he said this. Jorah joked around a lot with Ruthie, so it may be hard to tell when he was being serious sometimes, but at that moment, Jorah wanted there to be no room for misinterpretation.
He sipped his drink. "So uh, how about Quidditch," he said in an attempt to return the atmosphere to normalcy. "Any idea who we're playing next?"

RPing as Catriona Staverly | text color #8d7cc2Oh no, oh no, oh no. This was a bad idea, an awful idea and every fiber of Catriona's being was screaming at her to run before she got killed by Santario in a fit of rage. It was disguised well, the distaste hidden under a polite smile. It was settled, Catriona was going to die before Asteria even arrived. She needed to apologize or it would haunt her dreams forever.
"I'm— I'm so sorry. For lying to you I mean. I just, I wanted to make sure he," she jerked her head in DeRook's direction, "was ok, but it all ended horribly. Not to say that he's not capable of taking care of himself, I mean. I uh..." she trailed off, fear clouding her thoughts. "I'm really sorry." If Santario still hated her after this, well, Catriona would have to deal with it (most likely by crying to Dorian, her long suffering cat). "I just— I didn't want either of you to be upset and it completely backfired. That was my fault." She grimaced at how weak she sounded. This was truly shaping up to be a magical night, huh. She didn't know it was possible to regret a decision as much as she did now.
Her eyes flicked again over to Gem and she winced, as she noticed the pretty girl he was with (the girlfriend, presumably) clap another girl upside the head. Anger burned through her, but she held her tongue. She had no idea what was going on over there... maybe the girl had said something awful or done something worse. She had no way of knowing. Either way, the curiosity was too much. She had to go over there, at least until Asteria arrived.
"You guys probably want to hang out alone, so I'll just leave you to it." She looked back over to Santario. "I hope you can forgive me, but if you can't it's fine. I get it." And with that, she made her way over to where Gem, Charlotte, and James were standing, nodding at DeRook as a quick goodbye.
"Er, hello," she said, giving the girlfriend as pleasant a smile as she could muster. "I'm Catriona. You're Gem's date right? You look really nice." She turned, facing the others as well. "Actually, all of you do."

Adam felt quite like a prince tonight. It was hard not to, on his way to a masquerade ball in the heart of an ancient castle. He knew that under all the decorum, he was still the same old Adam Harringtom, and tomorrow would be the same old November. For the night, however, his entire world was draped in finery.
The room was wonderfully decorated, as it always was for these types of things. Even more wonderful were the outfits swirling across the floor. The girls were all wearing lovely dresses, and the boys looked rather debonair. Every mask that Adam saw was different, in some way. Some of them obscured the entire face, while some only covered the eyes. There were a dozen different shapes to be noted: cats, birds -- was that a sheet of paper? -- and something truly frightening looming over a suit of armor. Adam figured that had to be the headmaster; he rarely saw Professor Lear out of battle attire. For his own costume tonight, Adam hadn't done very much work. He'd donned the usual black dress robes, changing them up just a tiny bit with the help of a charm and a dusty old book to turn them partly gold. It was nothing too dramatic, just enough to compliment the mask he'd written home for. It was stunningly elegant to the eyes of a thirteen-year-old English boy. Wrought in gold and adorned with a miniature sun (at least, it looked like a sun), the mask fit well enough over his eyes and gave him that royal feeling that lightened his step and lifted his spirits. Prince Charming wasn't exactly it -- Prince Dashing, perhaps. Prince Stylish. Prince Lucky.
How lucky a prince indeed, to have an even more wonderful princess by his side. Eris had met him outside the door to the ballroom like they'd planned, and he'd been delightfully surprised to see her dress, golden like he was. Her hair was different, another surprise, though he couldn't quite figure out how to label that one. She had a very nice silver mask on, and there was a subtler change to her appearance that took him longer to notice. When he finally did, it seemed obvious: she was taller than usual, even beyond the high heels on her feet. She must have used some of her powers to do so. That was still a confusing concept to Adam, the idea of tailoring yourself. He wasn't sure how to react to it, or how to feel about it. It was just as normal as anything should be, he supposed, but sometimes he forgot she could do such a thing. It was always strange to remember. Anyways, that wasn't important tonight. He kept quiet about the height difference out of fear of offending her. Some things you were supposed to notice, like a new haircut; some things you were never supposed to acknowledge, like perhaps a slight gain in weight. Who knew where magical growth spurts fit in? Better to stick to the teachings of his brother and the world and keep his mouth shut.
When she'd spoken, Eris had sounded just as thrilled about the dance as he was, though there had been a bit of apprehension in her voice that he couldn't resist playing off of. Pressing a finger to his lips, he shot back a playful warning. "Shh! You'll jinx it!" Despite the joke, though, he prayed she was right. This could be their first successful school ball. Why shouldn't it be? He had no intention of using the wand stashed in his dress robes. He had no intention of doing anything but dancing and laughing.
She'd suggested a dramatic entrance then, something so inherently Eris that it reduced Adam to giggles again. When he'd finally controlled himself, he'd nodded in agreement and took her hand, pulling her towards the open door. "Follow me!" As they'd crossed the threshold, he'd linked his arm through hers and led her skipping into the ballroom. Laughing all the way, Adam had gently tugged Eris along, but she had gotten into the rhythm of it quickly enough. He would've topped it all off with a big finish, dropping to a knee, perhaps, or a flourish of jazz hands to present the two of them to the room. Unfortunately, he never got the chance -- someone else's dramatic entrance had delivered her right into Eris's path.
While Eris was busy with the other girl, Adam had taken the chance to look around the room and take in all of the sights. That was what he was still doing now, noting the last of the details. Not only was the room decorated beautifully, but safely: he was glad to pick up on a lack of open flames or druggable drinks. Two things that shouldn't have been an issue in a reputable school, really, but here they were. Content with the effort to take a step in the right direction, he looked back over at Eris and the other girl and smiled as another friendly face approached.
Reid! He didn't remember quite when he'd met Reid, officially, but he knew he liked the Hufflepuff boy. Grinning at the offered compliment, Adam looked over Reid's outfit and was happy to return it. "Thanks! You look great too!" It was true: Reid looked extremely refined in a white suit, and even if his mask looked a little grim, that was the spirit of the season! It didn't take away from the warmth underneath. Nodding at Reid's much more casual sneakers, Adam smiled again. "And very prepared." That had been pretty smart. He'd have to remember to find Reid if things went to hell.
"Anyone got any big plans?" Adam asked the group, because he hadn't figured out much beyond getting through the door. He knew he would dance, he knew he would probably eat, but the rest was a blank slate. He definitely wanted to meet some new people, if he got the chance. He hadn't yet talked to any of the American students. There were plenty of British ones that he didn't know either. He could just wander for a while, if it came down to that. For now, he'd stick with their small quartet until it evolved or broke apart. This wasn't bad company, far from it. "I'm not really sure where to start without having to look over my shoulder all the time!"
Seriously, "jinxing it" was a concern that he should be more worried about. That would be the last joke of that nature for a little bit. Adam would just let himself relax, enjoy his company, and enjoy the evening. They all deserved to relax a while.

LAMIK'S PERSPECTIVE
--------------------------------------------------------------
Lamik laughed when he saw Aideen go along with his act. Jokes were always much funner when they were appreciated by both sides, weren't they? "Thanks. I put a surprising amount of thought into this piece of paper." The compliment to his clothes was taken slightly more to heart, though. "I chose the suit myself. I think it looks pretty good too. And dont worry about not coming prepared- there was a ball last year that I came to with sweatpants and a T-Shirt because I had nothing packed. Luckily, I remembered to buy something a bit more... formal... for this year."
As Lamik continued, a small frown grew on his face, though it wouldn't be possible to see it under his makeshift mask. "Don't worry- we aren't especially rich either. Besides- I think you look good in that dress, so there really is nothing to worry about." It was true that his suit was a bit pricey, but there really wasn't any reason to point it out, especially since, for all he knew, Aideen could have been in a less-then-ideal monetary situation. "Say, have you ever been to a ball? Other then this one, of course."

The Masquerade Ball
RPing as: Jeremiah Lucero
Waiting for Interactions: @Thea Knott
This was going to be a lot harder than expected.
Jeremiah wasn't exactly the most social person out there. Naturally, that meant attending a masquerade ball full of many other people would have been the last thing he wanted to do. If it were up to him, he would have stayed in his room or in any other place where he could draw in peace, or at least not feel obliged to talk to other people. Socializing took too much energy, and if he had to spend the rest of his time in some stuffy room and deal with idle chat and loud background noise, then he would definitely pass. But no, he just had to join the rest of his schoolmates to this masquerade ball. In all fairness, this was what he should have expected on this visit to Warthogs Hogwarts. He was supposed to be here with the rest of the Ilvermorny students to see what the wizards in Britain were like, as if it were some kind of tour for a zoo exhibit. Here were the pure-bloods, half-bloods, and here were the muggle-borns. Here was their natural habitat, where they rest in their common rooms, and here were the classes where they spent most of the time in. It was certainly an interesting experience. For sure.
For the ball, Jeremiah was lucky enough to have packed some nice suits. They were mostly in darker colours, but for the mask he would wear, dark colours wouldn't have worked as effectively. Fortunately, the boy was able to find a fancy looking white suit without having to find some kind of spell to change the colours of his suit. Well, maybe one of the other Thunderbird boys might have jinxed it a while back to make the suit white, while conveniently leaving some parts black. It actually looked pretty nice, so he wasn't really sure if that was meant to be a mean prank or if it was a very bizarre way to help him out. It should have worn out by now, but he supposed he couldn't really do anything else about it now. Plus, it ended up working in his favour in the end. The only problem would be making sure that nothing got on his clothes. He supposed that was the reason why black suits were more popular. One wrong move with and he would end up looking like he frolicked in a garbage dumpster. Yeah, maybe it was a better idea to stay away from the food until he had a better idea to prevent that.
His mask was the easiest part. Having taken some interest in video games, he was rather fond of a particularly interesting role-playing game that he managed to play around with. Unfortunately, he didn't have too much time to actually finish the game, and he probably wouldn't have that time for a long time, but it still encouraged him to buy a mask based off of the game. Of course, he could have gotten the main character's mask. It was a simple looking mask, but there was something about it that looked cool. And he did get that mask- it just wasn't the mask he would be wearing tonight. He suspected that there would have also been people who would have copied his idea, especially in a school where Muggle culture was encouraged. No, instead, he would be wearing a different mask. It was supposed to have resembled a fox, and it actually had a nice design. He wasn't really complaining about having to wear that mask instead, if it meant avoiding accusations of being some kind of copycat.
Now came the totally easy part. Of course entering a room wasn't really hard in theory, but entering a room probably filled to the brim with people? No, that wasn't hard at all. He could definitely do it. Taking with random strangers without really knowing who they are and fearing judgement from their part? A piece of cake. He could have done it all day. Yes, he was very much prepared. Forget the fact that he had a suit that could easily stain, and forget the fact that he'd rather just draw in his sketchbook in peace. Socializing would have been fun. If everything could find some joy in the pleasure that is idle chat, he could do it too. He just had to find the energy to care. And did he care? Who was he kidding? He didn't care at all. Not even a tiny bit. He just wanted to get this done and over with.
And it was just as easy as he thought it would be. As he predicted, a crowd of people seemed to have envelop the rest of the ballroom. Yep, that would have made it a lot easier to move around. Why, it was much easier when everyone was clumped so closely together! Very helpful, indeed. And what the hell was that music? Actually, that might have fit. It did sound like hell when one thought about it enough. Regardless, with his work cut out for him, Jeremiah figured that the best strategy for now was to wait out by one of the walls near the paintings. What? Making conversation was great and all, but wouldn't it have been better to stand with some weird looking paintings? Jeremiah surely thought it would have been a much better idea. Screw other people. Paintings made much better company than people anyway.
And that was just what he did for a while now. Standing by the wall, with crossed arms as he stood beside one of those paintings. Shockingly enough, the paintings have actually tried to make conversation with him. He supposed they were enchanted, much like a lot of the decorations in the ball. But dear god, did he want to come off as a bigger creep and spend the rest of his time talking to paintings for the rest of the evening? He was willing to do many things, but that was not one of them. At all. Maybe if he was lucky enough, he would have found enough inspiration from the scenery that laid out in front of him. The ballroom was actually majestic looking, he couldn't deny that. Horrid music aside, the lights seemed to give the room a warm vibe, and the decorations made the room seem regal, in a way. Well, at least there was one truly good thing that came out of this torture event.
